After restarting my Mi5s the fingerprint scanner doesn't work anymore. The same issue appears when I put the phone off and I put it on a day later (I like to put the phone off while sleeping).
I know that the first time after restarting the fingerprint doesn't work by Android default. However, it also doesn't work thereafter. When I remove the fingerprints in settings and add new ones, it works again. Does anyone have the same issue and a possible solution?
Not having this issue. Which ROM version do you have installed?
I use the xiaomi.eu stable rom.
Ah ok, custom ROM then. Please ask in xiaomi.eu forum, they might know more.

I had same problem here after I encrypted my device with 'encrypt device using lock screen'. When I switched encryption off the problem was solved. So seems a software problem. I am working with most recent stable Global Rom (8.0.3.0). Hope it will be solved in next release. China stable was released a few days ago.
had that problem with miui.eu , it was an outdated version of supersu and twrp, updated them and problem solved.
Hey guys I've been trying to look this up but I haven't found any answers..
My fingerprint option in security is totally gone and Moto action's sensor navigation just doesn't work. Now I'm not sure what I did for that to happen but my guess is that it has something to do with flashing oreo twrp flashable zip (unsuccessful) and reverting back to stock nougat.
After restoring nougat and booting system I had an error for wrong pattern. I fixed this issue with a lockscreenkey.zip fix available on these forums. Until recently I never went back to set fingerprints in the settings so I never realized that it was gone. The other security options are still there though, only fingerprint is missing.
I have a feeling that doing a complete stock fastboot firmware flash would fix this but I was hoping for another solution
Edit: this problem is solved guys ... I went for the full fastboot firmware solution and it's working. Sry for creating a thread like this for nothing.
I am now unable to use the fingerprint reader.
I was on LOS and noticed only one of my saved fingerprints was working, tried to add another and it would get to the last touch and say enrollment was not completed.
After many attempts to delete saved fingerprints and retry setups I now cannot get any fingerprints to save.
I have resorted to restoring stock via miflash to no avail. I even went back to 8.1.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can try?
I've tried reflashing stock a few times and factory resets from there. Nothing seems to help.
Here is the error I am facing
Fixed by flashing persist.img
Not sure why but I can use fingerprint reader with no issues now.
I had previously tried flashing vendor but the problem was still there.
I'm surprised that flashing the stock firmware with miflash didn't fix the problem.

Pulled from stock image files
I got my phone just a few days ago, and tried to root it on ColorOS. After all I can't use my fingerprint scanner anymore.
I tried:
-wiping all data
-different ROMs
-unrooting
Nothing worked, I'm curios if anyone got the same problem, and somehow got it working
It was the same with me. With the latest Bootlegger Rom, Fingerprint works for me.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/bi...ble-Unshishufied-20200519-131630.zip/download
If you want to install it, follow the Bootlegger instructions (https://del.dog/X2Flashing.txt). Do not delete the "Vendor" image with Twrp.
The bootlegger links can all be found in the Realme X2 Update Telegram channel
I formatted the data partition with Twrp because it is encrypted with the password. Simple deleting does not help.
I also deleted the internal memory before flashing.
Good luck

Which version of Realme x2 do you have?
Mine is RMX1993
And is it working with root?
Just tried...
Only thing that has changed was scanner started to flash on touch, still don't work tho.
I have the xmr1993 EU.
Root works. I have installed Magisk 20.3.
Did you also format the data partition, erase the system and internal memory before installing the custom rom?
Did you hold your finger on the scanner long enough until you were asked to lift your finger?

I tried two times. I wiped everything, instaled stock A18 and then formated data, wiped everything (not vendor) and flash Bootleger ROM. First time nothing changed, settings stoped working every time I tried to setup fingerprint. Second try it just flashed on touch even when I was in home screen, but still couldn't set it up
Too bad it doesn't work for you yet.
I had installed the A16 when I bought it, later I installed the A18. When I installed Bootlegger with A18 the fingerprint setup did not work either. Unfortunately I locked the bootloader again and it did not boot anymore.
When I got it back from the service center, version C1 was installed. Then I deleted everything except Vendor and formatted the data. Bootlegger installed, fingerprint setup and then Magisk 20.3 installed.
Works fine. Only when the lock screen was on for a few hours I have problems with the fingerprint to log in. Then it works only after a few tries or I have to log in with the password. Otherwise no problems with the fingerprint.
The fingerprint setup took about 5 minutes. You have to press and lift your finger often

Have you checked after you got it if fingerprint was working? Maybe they fixed it.
Yes, as said in the Stockrom, the fingerprint always worked, with the A16, A18 and the C1.
Only when I first installed Bootlegger after the A18 Stockimage the fingerprint setup did not work. I could not setup it.
Now with the new bootlegger it works. Don't know how and why, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that the C1 was installed before. Maybe if the service center had flashed the old A18 I would still have the same problems.
You could try installing Magisk 20.1 again instead of 20.3. On the A18 Rom only Magisk 20.1 worked for me. When installing 20.3 I had a boot loop. Maybe it helps.

So for you this works on stock ROMs, for me even on them it doesn't. I checked a few and nothing changed. I thought about relocking bootloader but I didn't want to brick my phone.
Custom ROMs that I've checked are Havoc and Bootlegger. Nothing helped

I'm not even trying to install magisk now. I only want to make scanner working
If the fingerprint scanner does not work on stockroms either, I would exchange or return the smartphone. Suggests that it is due to the hardware or it's because you were trying to root the Stockrom. I didn't do that until I installed a custom rom.
For the past two days I've been trying to get fingerprint to work on custom roms. I've never experienced any issues while going from stock to Lineage 16, then to Havoc/MSM Extended. The issue started happening when I first installed Lineage 17.1 Now whenever I try to enroll my fingerprint on a custom rom(LOS16/16/Havoc/MSM), it fails with error: "Fingerprint enrollment didn't work. Try again or use a different finger.". When I go back to stock it works again but as soon as I go back to a different rom the error happens and prevents me from using the fingerprint scanner.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and knows how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Don't directly go from stock to q, flash Oreo rom or pie rom then flash q rom.
