Ok so I bought SPB Shell 3D and more recently purchased Android Seven Best Launcher. I find SPB Shell 3D to be good, though it does tend to crash very frequently, and was really disappointed with Android Seven Best Launcher. Android Seven Best Launcher attempts to give you a windows 7 view of things with a start icon and a "my computer icon" and so on.
One of the major problem I had with it is that you cant change the icons. What I mean is, for example, I wanted to use root explorer as my "my computer" with the official windows 7 "my computer" icon, which comes with Android Seven Best Launcher, but there was no way to do it.
Also you can't create a folder and then put other folders in there like you could with actual windows. when you create a folder with Android Seven Best Launcher, only icons can go in there, not other folders, which would be good for both customization and organization. So I would recommend SPB Shell 3D to anyone over Android Seven Best Launcher. What do you guys think about the two?
Here are links to both launchers:

I have tried SPB Shell 3D and it does look great especially when people who dont know what it is see it but i think its hovers around the 80mb mark on ram usage and i have seen it go over 120mb+ . Not worth it IMO. It runs fine...ish (apart from the crashes you mentioned and random bugs but nothing is perfect) on the xplay i would rather have the spare 80mb so i got rid of it. It is also not very customizable for the price.
Not tried Android Seven probably never will i have windows on my pc dont need a buggy version of it on my phone . Im just using Launcher pro now with desktop visualizer giving me windows (phone) style icon tiles.
Android 7 is pretty average, but good for tablets! It's not my favourite launcher since I'm crammed for room

I say neither of them and go with ADW launcher.
But thats just me.
Also, you lose some widgets when using a diffrend launcher, like timescape and the media player. (diffrend from the stock one). Or is this something that only happens with adw?
I've been using SPB Shell since it came out on the Xperia Arc & Play, looks and style wise it's by far the best launcher in my view. But it's highly unstable, crashes, lags and uses masses of ram.
It is a pure case of style over function & usability

Honestly it hasn't been crashing for me as much as it used to. As far as how much ram it takes up, I have no clue. The main selling points for me are landscape view and the widgets. I anticipate it will only get better. I sort of see it as an investment
to bad because that looks awesome.
Hey!
I have been rooted my Defy and overclockrd it to 1Ghz. And it feels good now
But the question is, is there still something that I could do to get even more better performance out of Defy?
And yes, I know that flashing CM7 makes it faster, but Im not gonna flash anything yet coz' I have no experience about flashing. And Im bit careful with my defy.
I really want to know how to get whole performance out of this awesome device
And gaming. I've heard about "chainfire3D", will it make 3D and HD games more smoothly and better gaming experience?
Thanks in advace!
install an Applauncher like ADW Launcher to optimize the Appdrawer.
Julian
As far as I know chainfire3D improves performance only in games which are designed for Tegra GPU. Don't worry about Flashing CM7, you can always downgrade to Froyo (Btw, if you have 2.1 to improve performance you can flash 2.2 in official way using Motorola Software Update). Defy is almost unbrickable so you cannot do anything wrong.

Which is better ADW or GO luncher?
Send from my MB525 motodefy.
IMO, Go Launcher Ex is better. It is smoother and does not lag at all! Furthermore, the App Drawer is really nice , you can make it look like iOS - you'll have these tiny x's above the apps if you drag and hold your finger on them if you want to delete them or move.
ADW launcher is good, its still smooth, but go launcher is faster.

I second that.
My first launcher was ADW. It's really nice launcher but sometimes it's laggy and consumes much more CPU. GO Launcher runs smooth with any transation/effect i choose and has some nice tools like recent and running app in app drawer.
I think if you don't feel comfortable using CM7, Chainfire 3D is a no go either, it's safer but still can screw your system
You can also use Titanium Backup to "freeze" some apps you don't frequently use that still consume resources
the best launcher is launcherpro imo. it uses 3g acceleration for the animations, so it runs way smoother than other launchers, and its incredibly fast! and in launcherpro, you have the opportunity to hide apps in the app drawer. but the first step in increasing performance would definitely be to update to a 2.2 kernel than flashing cm7 (i recommend the 110909 nightly)!

I will go for Launcher Pro Plus too ...
Hmmm.. Somehow I can't get that orginal homescreen back?
In my opinion ADW launcher is better than GoLauncher Ex.
But that is my opinion!

The Blur Launcher runs in background and i can't be killed (in stock roms).
You can use apps like Home Manager or Home Switcher to switch between launchers

I would guess you already have 2.2 stock. If not, you're missing an easy improvement.
I also thought I needed to learn more before trying CM7 so it took me quite a while to flash it. The only thing I can say now is that it makes me appreciate even more how much faster CM7 is than stock 2.2. I wish I had tried it before.
I'm still having some problems with wifi, but I just can't go back anymore, stock is just too slow.
As for a launcher, try Zeam Launcher, pretty quick.
+1 for the Zeam Launcher. App launchers are just that. They should consume a minimal amount of resource so that the applications that really matter have more room to play with.
If you have a stock rom, it is really quite possible to take out moto's home app. You need to be rooted (and of course, you need to be careful)
Regarding the question about not seeing the original home launcher, i think the easiest thing to do is to uninstall the 3rd party app launcher. If the original home app is still installed, you *should then be able to see it again on the foreground.
For original home launcher fix go to market and search for "moto home fix". Read it and install.
And when you want to go back on original launcher, go to settings-applications-manage applications and select your current launcher.
Then click "clear defaults" and press home button.
Menu for choosing launcher will promp.

Zeam launcher has the best performance, but lacks some features. Best Alternative is LauncherPro, in my opinion.

Yes, I have 2.2.2
Send from my MB525 motodefy.
right this is my first post in the many years i have been on xda, i have read and read, and well basically i cant find a tutorial or even a mod that has miui rom with a none miui stock launcher, im sure many of us love miui and hate its default launcher and i have seen similar questions asking about an alternative launcher to which the only answer seems, just download one from market, and set as default.... yeah thats what i do, but when i go into settings and i see launcher settings its for stock miui, grr, i would like to have one launcher (LP, ADW, Zeam, hell even stock GB launcher), not the stock miui 'iphone style' launcher, and have the launchers settings in settings , much like cyangenmod with his adw, and adw settings in settings!
i have tried editing the settings apk, the personal xml and all that, but tbh im not too savvy on that and i just seem to break things and get FC's....
anyway little rant over, does anyone else agree with me, and even better to that, does anyone have the skill and willing to either help me in creating a miui rom with a non miui launcher or just create it themselves? (with its launcher settings in settings)
imagine that... Miui with and android look, straight out the box!!!
just out of curiosity, what launcher would everyone prefer to have with miui?
I don't know if what you described is possible, but I would recommend Go Launcher EX. It's very similar to MIUI, but it has an app drawer. It's easily themeable and has a built-in theme shop like MIUI.
hey its android, if it was written, it can be re-written (at least i hope so) lol
anyhow, i have found this in the Settings.apk\res\xml\personal_settings.xml
<PreferenceScreen android:title="@string/launcher_settings_title" android:key="launcher_settings" android:image="@2130837580">
<intent android:targetPackage="com.android.launcher" android:action="android.intent.action.MAIN" android:targetClass="com.android.launcher2.LauncherPreferenceActivity" />
</PreferenceScreen>
i dunno if this is a step in the right direction, or even in any direction, it seems to me that the settings.xml doesnt have anything for the launcher, but this personal_settings.xml does, any devs willing to help me, a complete novice?
Any ideas? Anyone?

The difficulty seems to be that MIUI is closed source, so only the people who are part of the core project (in China) can really make deep level changes like that.
There are several devs who are compiling their own copies of MIUI, and adding various tweaks and fixes, but embedding a link to the settings of a different launcher into the settings page of the ROM seems like it would require some source-level information, which just isn't available.
The people who created MIUI obviously like their launcher, so it's doubtful they'll ever add support for other launchers, either.
ah bummer... so am i at a lost cause? to be honest the only thing i like about miui is the way it breaks the settings down into 3 simple pages - personal, system, and programs. anyway thanks for the unfortunate news (my brain can rest now yay!) ...... unless maybe..... ah lol its 4:30am, i must sleep on this decision to quit or not, night xda!!!
The stock ADW thing crashed into an infinite force close loop as soon as I applied a theme, the new version teases me with a bunch of EX stuff which I wont pay for on principle, and this FTL launcher should be called slower than lagged on my DINC, thing is way more unresponsive than stock, and has a huge long freeze on boot.
I don't want to have a lot of configuration options, or fancy animations, I just want fast and stable.
I think this should be the last of my many recent questions..

Launcher Pro. It's still in the Play Store. It hasn't seen an update since 2011, but, it's stable and fast. Doesn't use much memory and is fairly customizable. EG, 3D app drawer (one that doesn't actually lag), amount of screens, animations, amount of docks, icons, etc. I keep ADW in the rare case LP crashes, but it's only done so a hand full of times and I've used it for years.
Alternatively, Holo Launcher is alright. But it's slower. It looks like the stock ICS launcher.
perfect, thanks.. I'll use that and get the other for backup, since I didn't have a stock backup for adw, and I'm assuming the new version will be slower..

It looks real good so far.. I cant seem (LPP) to find any configuration options, so you know if there is a way to make it have more than 3 screens (pages?).
Edit: Ok, I hit menu, then preferences for config..
Hello guys
I have some questions crossed my mind before getting it :
How's red magic ui skin? Is it good? Any bugs?
Can you set nova launcher as default launcher without any issue? totally using a launcher instead of default redmagic launcher.
Do kwgt, kwlp ,klck Work fine?
Any pre-installed theme app available for red magic? what customization? Statusbar, Boot, Icons, Settings Icons?
How's audio speakers? Seriously are you satisfy?
Camera looks weak on paper, is it good if you compare with others? I will get 7 Pro after all.
Battery life?
How's fan? Have you seen any issue like stopped suddenly or similar bugs? I need fan more when browsing or using apps, for instance I am on Chrome for 2 hours and phone would be hot, Can I turn it on in order to cool whole phone?
Tnx in advance.
1. The Skin is alright not what I prefer, so I just changed it to the Nova Launcher since I'm used to it.
2. Yes but if you like say are in an app and you back out too much you back to the original launcher but when you click home you get sent back to the default launcher.
3. Not sure haven't tried sorry.
4. Not sure, sorry.
5. Speakers are quite loud and sound pretty good IMO, in fact, you can feel them vibrate a little.
6. Not the greatest camera system but could be made better with Gcam but a lot, I use MGC BSG 8.1.101.345618084, and the phone without root supports Camera2API Level 3
7. Quite good lasts a while at 90Hz with constant use, longest I've lasted was 26 Hours at 60Hz and disabling some features at 20% like light strips.
8. The fans are good, haven't used it often unless playing something intense, you wouldn't really need it for browsing but if the phone does get warm it helps remove that heat.
Hope this helps!
