"what would we actually use 100x zoom on?" - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

"what would we actually use 100x zoom on?"

On whatever you want. You don't want that much of a zoom then would suggest the s20 or plus.

To save energy. Instead of walking far to the horizon you just zoom it in to see what's there

Duh... use it to look for "sharks" on the beach...

Realistically, I feel that 100X zoom is a little more of a "cool feature" that doesn't have any use due to the digital loss of clarity. However, I believe the improved optical telephoto could be used for catching photos of off-limit areas like protected wildlife zones, etc.

Reading a sign far away!

Anything!
- Would use it to rant about how unusably blurry and dull the outcome is.

I don't think it's going to be useful at all. But lossless 5x seems really good way of compressing the image. Looks like it's a ~100mm equivalent. Have high hopes for 10x hybrid too.

I'm probably going to use it just to show off once or twice and then never again. It'll only really be usuable in good light anyway

Probably only once or twice to show off just like Samsung did in the presentation. It is only a statement that they can do it but on the other hand I think that if the hardware & software is capable of 100x then 5x & 10x must be top quality.

The hot chick next door lol. Lawsuits will happen within 6 months

There are mountain areas of California where I might search for aminals wandering around that are way far away.

At my eye doctor's office to read those damn tiny letters, also probably to read the same letters at local MVD eye test

A reviewer said to think of it more if binoculars when your eyes can't see the object. I do a lot of hiking and I think this feature will be awesome to see things that I'll never be able to get to.

I intend to use it at the Shooting range instead of having to bring my large spotting scope.

Perving no doubt.

To show off, it's grainy and probably going to be a nasty image, so really it's just to say I can do 100x zoom..if you and a tripod though and a clear day it would be interesting to see what would come out

Get another S2 or gnex ?

Hello,
my galaxy s2(I9100G variant) was stolen and I'm thinking about getting a gnex for the updates and long developer support(there are other stuff I like about gnex but that's my main reason for getting it) but one thing is holding me back, the camera(also the lack of sd card slot but I can give that away if it's worth it).My phone is usually my main camera,I got a kodak digital camera but I use it in special events only.I mainly take pics with friends for uploading on social networks and stuff like that.So I wanted to know your thoughts on the camera, also would be nice to get some feedbacks from people who switched from S2 to gnex. Thanks in forward
The camera isn't that bad, sure its only 5mp compared to the 8mp on the s2 but its not the end of the world, its acceptable imo.
You wouldn't be able to tell the difference in picture quality if you took pictures outside with good lighting.

I believe there's nothing in my thread that's against the rules. And yes I did search before posting and I couldn't find what I'm looking for.
I personally will choose GNex mainly cuz I want Google experience (pure)
If you can get S2 for a really nice price (REALLY NICE), and you want that slightly better camera (GNex isn't bad either btw, night shot is pretty bad though), nobody is stopping you from getting S2.
Bare in mind that S2 is almost dead in both updates and for developers, since S3 came out.

It'll look good if you focus on the light source. I'll try to take a few night pictures tonight and post them.

I wouldnt believe it anymore than using wifi to look through walls. Sure it works but it also sucks and is impractical.
Article sounds a little funny. But I also don't understand how such high frequencies would be considered usable for material penetration. Apparently what they are discussing is considered for such uses though - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terahertz_radiation Though what kind of energy output are we looking at, cell phones.... meh talking about looking through a wall not transmitting some data.
x-ray vision for cellphones
Vista Verda Optics Inc. proudly presents next generation of x-ray spex lenses.
With Vista Verda, it is simple to achieve superior visual outcomes with brilliant images. Our amazing Photo-Reactive Technology product shows whatever you want to see that you are
looking for. You can use Vista Verda easily with all kind of smart phones. You won’t believe what
you will be able to see through VISTA VERDA.
Enjoy and have fun.
How echnology works:
To capture a Fluoresced See-Through image, the object is placed over the light source to limit the incident light and prevent any infrared rays emitted by the source from reaching the subject.
Some of the visible rays, which remain striking the subject are changed to longer, all reflected light that we can see with the naked eye represents a fractional portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, which is infinite. We refer to this section as "visible light". All around us, there are light rays that cannot be detected by the human retina, such as ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
Vista Verda filter allows such rays to be passed into the camera of the mobile device and human eye via infrared rays diffraction.
You can also see the main structure of objects with the infrared filter at the
bottom of the lens with your naked eye.

Besides, Symbian already did this a decade ago.

GNex won the TIPA award.

Not sure if this has been posted, but our Galaxy Nexus sits on the same pantheon as the acclaimed Leica M9, Canon 1dx, 5d3 and Nikon d800 cameras.

For those non photography types, TIPA is a some sort of independent association form by various press entities to award great photographic products.

not me, im constantly trying to show people that its an awesome camera. people just dont know how to use it. they expect the camera to do all the work for them, but it only does what you tell it to do. plus its really important to keep that back lens cover smudge free.

As per the above poster, I also love the GNex camera. It takes some getting used to but it takes better pictures than pretty much any other camera on a phone I have ever seen.

Very nice pics. I personally don't have an opinion, my eyes are not the best, and I've never had a good eye for capturing photography myself. I just use the camera casually and it works fine for me. What I meant was the general consensus on the camera is that it is poor, that is what the websites and reviews and even users all complain about. It may just be a common misconception, but it's widely the accepted view, accurate or not.
Not better than my SGN. I am still pleased i didnt go for gnex and opted a note last year.

TIPA didn't evaluate image quality only, but the whole pack of good screen, zero-lag shutter, 1080p recording and some other goodies.
TIPA meeting was on 24th March 2012, so it's understandable why they choose Galaxy Nexus.
All I can say about the camera is, its the only camera that can take colour accurate images of my coral reef aquarium. I've tried several cameras and other phones and its way off. Mind you I've learned the best settings for that application is simply changing it to cloudy.

Hand held Gimbal that works for S8+ and GoPro?

Looking for a Hand held Gimbal that I can use both my phone and GoPro on. The cheaper the better but I understand I don't have many options. Any Ideas?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
You might want to explain what a gimbal is or why you need it and in what context you'll be using it. you mention gopro so potentially, it would be in a rugged environment or sports.
Just saying, if you want responses, clarify.

I use a ikan FLY-X3 PLUS, It works great as long as you don't have lots of wind hitting the phone. Its better with my S7 or GoPro.

Gimbals are definitely not just selfie sticks. They're for producing cinematic quality video and are quite effective when used correctly. I've got a DJI Osmo Mobile that i was using with my S7 but I havent had a chance to try out the S8+ on it yet. I'm going to guess that it'll be pushing the limits on the motors for it though.
Anyway... just set it up for the S8+... Looks like it'll work alright but no way your gonna get it to work inside a case and you've basically got to adjust the thing to the limits of the device. I'm sure the weight and size will put stress on the motors and use more battery than normal, but it does work.
Sorry for the sideways pic:

Saw this on YT, nice side-by-side comparison of 2 gimbals, plus he has OIS on and off with each one. That's where I found out what gimbals are (as far as smartphones are concerned).

Zhiyun smooth Q, cheaper than osmo and can function comparable to it.

Taking level panoramic photos with camera

I've tried on various occasions to take some landscape panoramic photos and they always end up dipping in the middle. I know from the thread for photos by Pixel it can do very level panoramics but I can never get it to work. I line the dots up and stand still rotating my body to get the shots.
Is there a technique or am I missing something in the camera app I should set? Would appreciate any feedback that helps me improve the photos I take.

Care to share an example? Are you following the recommended way to take it by rotating your phone on the same axis and not your body? It's a little awkward but you can get some great results.

I cannot upload a photo, keep getting a 500 error. Image the horizon as a line goes ------___------.
I do rotate my body, but from posts it looks like that may be the issue. Rotate the phone seems the advice. I'll have a go this weekend and see how it goes.
Thanks for the feedback people.
Working here, definitely rotate on phone axis, rotating around my body also causes imperfections

Thanks for the feedback, doing it properly (move hand, not body) has improved my panoramics and I'm getting consistently level horizons.
Next time I should read the "Tips" when displayed
