I came across interesting method for flashing combination files to s10 and s10+, which I have tested and it actually worked really good.
This works only for devices that are Exynos based...
I am still working on putting things together to create DIY guid, because the process is really dangerous, and at one point you will kill your device.
Are you guys interested in this topic or it is just a waste of time?

This could bring root possibilities to s10 line without impacting knox?
pls share the guide when you ready

i know its been quite a while but yes, it works. I also have a way on usa snapdragon devices to flash combo on s10 s10+ and note devices..
i also have method/files for various exynos devices from F variants mainly of a10 a50 note 10 etc.
Both methods require special files.. exynos files u can find some places online but need to purchase them.. snap files are not available anywhere online and if u can find a source they also charge a lot for the files.
Seeing as how theres still no methods or services that provide this I was thinking about getting into but still learming how it would work remotely.
Also, both methods are a bit risky but given all the times ive used it I'd say its pretty safe if you know what youre doing.
Because the snap files are propietary and need to be leaked or obtained from samsung servers I am afraid they cannot be posted. Could potentially lead to legal issues or dmca takedown notices for example.
If anyone is interested, shoot a pm or hit me up on tgram.
Keep in mind factory firmware isnt useable as a daily and mainly used for security researchers such as myself or ppl looking to repair, bypass frp, change csc and other stuff or even repair imei etc etc.
Also if anyone is hard bricked I can most likely fix that as well.
I'm definitely interested.

Okay get it ! What more do I need? I have an exynos model?
Should I contact you by pm or whatsapp?
Found a video where they are able to flash a pre-root binary by "bricking" the phone and then are able to install magisk and also unlock oem.
Think that would work the same way to install the combination firmware, right?

Sounds like you have an Exynos loader for those models. Cause a hard brick, and load combination using exynos loader and board diag tools

Basically this is for organization and for people to understand and help contribute to our root attempts
The Thread should discuss the ideas to gain root and why they won't work or what the status is. Also if you have a question of will this help us gain root, then post it or PM me and we can discuss it on IRC or in here and then come to a conclusion if it will help or not.
In no way am I a dev or understand how all this works completely but I would like to help and if this is a way I can, great and trying out new things.
Ideas
1) Newer Kernel Exploits

2) Zip File Fuzzing (Bootloader overflow)

3) Root Level things running

4) Mount internal storage and modify OS

5) Trick from the Desire
Status: We need a signed ROM from HTC to get that to work.
6) Let's put an image on the SD and see if it will boot that
Status: No. It doesn't work
7) Trick from the Evo
Status: No. The Evo depends on some specific stuff that Incredible doesn't have.
8) Fastboot oem unlock
Status: Everyone and their mom tried, doesn't work
9) Flash a new image

10)Shoryuken ptrace() exploit.

Been looked at, something was potentially found but there were ethical concerns about using it because it would be a local root exploit on anything running the same Linux kernel as the DI.

Um... OK? Use it, root the phone, and any phone running the same kernel for that matter, then submit so it can be fixed. If the devs here found it, I'm sure someone more malicious WILL find it and exploit it.

It would be highly unethical.
Script kiddies would potentially have an opportunity to exploit thousands of vulnerable devices until they were patched.

Just a question.... It seems to me that if we already have root.... thus the statement above.... that it's weird that the dev's are going " We have it, but we won't use it. Lets just look for a more difficult way to do it."
My question is can a phone be rooted through a "package" where it cannot be seen how it's done? So we reap the benefits of rooting, but the "script monkeys" cannot utilize it without figuring it out for themselves? Or maybe somehow package it as an updatable update.zip? Am I missing something?

I agree with a previous poster, lets get this thing rooted by any means necessary and then report the loophole before anybody with the wrong intent gets ahold of it.

i'm glad the people that are actually working on it are wiser than to try that. aside from the already stated ethical reasons....
even if a kernel vulnerability were found and exploited (and subsequently patched), anyone with a patched phone wouldn't be able to root their handset. so if you were to lose your phone (or it fails), you'd be outta luck, because any replacement you receive would almost certainly be patched by htc at the factory or a verizon store.
DISCLAIMER (i may be talking out of my butt here and anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, but....)
gaining su via a kernel exploit also wouldn't necessarily allow you to do stuff like unlock the bootloader or write unsigned images. in which case you wouldn't be able to write a custom recovery image, and therefore would still be unable to write non-htc signed roms to the phone (thus defeating half of the purpose for which you went through all the trouble).
It's already BEEN reported, and fixed I think. That's how we know the hole exists. The problem is that there are still tons of people out there running the exploitable kernel.

You're not the only one. I can understand why they haven't released the exploit , but people are always going to abuse things like this. Sooner or later this exploit will be found by someone else and that person may or may not use this exploit just for the DI.
That being said, I really want to root my DI.
I agree

Well heck guys, root away!
No one is stopping you.
I agree with the people that say the exploit should be used, but then again I'm not agreeing out of simple greed.
I'm agreeing because not releasing it is essentially security through obscurity which is a shaky philosophy at best. The idea that the hole isn't or won't be exploited unless it's released as a DI root is unproven.
But hey, I'm not a dev, maybe they understand the implications better than I do. If they don't want to release it then we'll have to find another method.
Okay I have been looking at threads everywhere doing my research on How to get 1700MHz for ATT Galaxy S3 i747. Basically if your trying to use T mobile sim US only on a Atnt GS3 you will only get 2g(Edge). Well i found several ways to get 3G/4G to work! I will be making a Video tutorial for those who dont know much about Flashing and stuff like that. Tutorial will include How to flash files and what to do if something goes wrong! (TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK) i have done it to many devices and it worked successfully, but you never know. I will show you guys everything from scratch how it only gets 2g(edge) to after the whole process when 3g/4g is enabled!
But to make things clear im taking credit for basically doing a video guide which i will upload to YouTube and post here soon. And the other thread was getting messy for new users to find main post

Thanks for this! Few questions:
1. Is it possible to revert back to at&t if needed and how?
2. Is the master reset (complete device wipe including internal storage) a must?
3. What if I'm on the LK3 4.1.1? Will this still work or do I need to revert to the 4.0?
4. After completing this will i be able to flash new roms as desired or will that bork it up?

1.Yes you can flash files back to ATT i will be mentioning on my video when uploaded. But usually just find m5d files and flash back the atnt files
2. No factory rest/wipe not required for these files.
3.No you can do it off of any Android version. if for some reason doesnt work. revert back to stock version on your atnt s3
4. yes you can root and flash any rom

no need it automatically show when sim is inserted, But files need to be flashed with odin in order to unlock 1700MHz bands to use tmobile 3g/4g/lte depending on your location you might get 4g/lte speeds or only 3g

You have to use the ant s3 root file to flash instead of the one given on this form to root. I will be including on my video, but give it try the regular way. If it doesnt work reflash files. It should but if not ill will include in my video for you stay tuned

80mb vs 128mb
The 80mb file is about the same size as pre 4.3 images.
I just used a difference size when dumping it.

If the bootloader gets corrupted on the Galaxy SIII, you can flash the image file to an SD card and get the phone to boot from a fully bricked state (phone will not power on at all). The image file must match the current bootloader that is installed. There are other threads here for previous builds with the matching image files.
(If I got something a little wrong in terminology or concept, I'm sure someone will pop in and fix anything I got mixed up on explaining. )

Unfortunately, my phone hard bricked during some testing of ND8 and now it's a paperweight as I haven't been able to get it back. I'm sure we'll see more of this going forward. I bet there were a few when 4.3 came along as well but we weren't around for that release here.
Looks like Jtag for this phone and I haven't decided what to do in the meantime to replace it; temporarily or permanently.

I personally think I'm done with Sammy after this phone. Knox is too much of a pain in the arse and if they keep adding to it it's gonna eventually be locked down. I'm looking at the OnePlus or the LG G3 or the new M8, but not til Christmas or Tax Time.

If the bootloader gets corrupted on the Galaxy SIII, you can flash the image file to an SD card and get the phone to boot from a fully bricked state (phone will not power on at all). The image file must match the current bootloader that is installed. There are other threads here for previous builds with the matching image files.
(If I got something a little wrong in terminology or concept, I'm sure someone will pop in and fix anything I got mixed up on explaining. )

Edit: Additionally, I had issues getting this image to flash in Windows. I had to flash it to SD in Ubuntu. If you can still read the SD in Windows, it didn't take the flash. If the card is unreadable in Windows then maybe it flashed ok but still no guarantees it will work if the bootloader partitions are corrupted like mine were.

I was having connectivity issues so I flashed a new modem. Then, for some weird reason, I lost audio and had ZERO signal except wifi. I was advised to flash a TW rom to try and update PRL and activate the phone. I flashed Wicked Sensations, still no luck. So at that point, I was trying to flash back to non rooted using >>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099. Thats when it bricked. I don't blame anyone but myself. I didn't read the ENTIRE thread before flashing and it hard bricked. Won't power on, no recovery/download mode. Light comes on with battery pulled and plugged in to USB.
I have tried all the threads and has no luck. I bought a 16g class 10 sd card. Tried many different debrick files. Tried writing with win23 and Cygwin, nothing. I am thinking I may need a different image based on my bootloader, I just have no idea which it was at the time.
Hi everyone!
Today I got the new system update for my Galaxy S9 DUOS (SM-G960F)... Long story short, I was using my DIY SD card + SIM before, and it was working perfectly, but after this update, looks like that our friends from SAMSUNG don't like this "hybrid" stuff on their devices
To me it's not a problem to use only 2 normal SIM cards, w/o the SD card too, but I got used to it, so I needed to get rid of the 'hybrid', go to my carrier branch, and request from them to issue me a new SIM card...
So guys, If you are using this 2 SIM + SD card ("all-in-one"), make sure that you don't update your phone, or otherwise you will loose the "DIY" stuff (to call it like that).

Dual SIM + SD error after last upgrade
Hi guys,
Same problem here. I had to took off the 2nd SIM card+MicroSD for the phone to work...
But I need my second phone number and the microSD !!!
Please let me know if there is any solution and I'll post here if I find one!
I think the solution must be a software upgrade that would fix this bug...

Well, seems like that we cannot do that much... I think that there must be some "fix" for this, but root will be required, which in my case I don't want to root my Galaxy.

Same problem here - and I just bought the phone to replace my S7. I've put the card combo in first - all ok - then updated the system... Now I'm downloading an older firmware from sammobile and maybe I'll be able to downgrade. I'll keep my fingers crossed waiting for the download (yes, the slow one) to finish....
The only way is to downgrade it to the previous firmware.

Hi. First you download Odin. Then you download the firmware G960FXXS1BRF3 from www.sammobile.com and use Odin to flash your phone. Afterwards the status will read "custom" but Google Pay still works so it's not really rooted. Google for ways to flash your phone and you'll find detailed explanations. It did work for me so that I can put the 2 sims and an sd card in but I'm stuck with older than the most recent firmware. For the moment I hope.
Hope this helps a bit. Wishing you best of luck in reverting to the previous firmware.
Cheers!

I did that on s7 a few days ago and nothing got tripped and the status stayed official. Did on S9 now and Knox is not tripped but "custom" is there in the device status. I can still use Google Pay so I'm guessing Knox is not tripped. The only things I did on the S9 was to switch on developers options, change the USB debugging option and flashed the firmware with Odin. That is absolutely it.
If you download to the previous firmware (June) will it stop OTA upgrades in the future? Also will Samsung Pay still work?
Any solution found to this problem of two SIMS and a micro USB other than downgrading?

Installing official signed firmware should never trip KNOX. KNOX only trips when an unsigned ROM is flashed.
Yes, theoretically it is correct, but we need a certitude in order to start downgrade from BRF8 to BRF3, downgrading from one official firmware to another it will change status phone from Official to Custom ?
In my case, latest BRF8 (that firmware with infamous limitation), and in order to use again both sim and sd card I'm tempted to proceed to downgrate at BRF3, I have CSC ROM (multi CSC), flashing with Odin will preserve CSC as it is right now, or it will change it ?

Flashing the Original Samsung ROM (older Version) wont change the status of the firmware to CUSTOM. It will work fine...
So, in brief, feel free to downgrade

No crashes or malfunctions after downgrade ? Did you proceed with or without hard reset ?
What is you'r CSC, if you can tell !
You are now on BRF3 or lower ?
Thanks !

I have only done the "Upgrade" Option, nothing else, trying to dump anything gives me "0x2000 Write Protected lun" Error, could be because of the encryption.
I have just tried doing Partition DL on "boot_ a/b" and "sid_a/b"
Followed by the upgrade option, result is the same, the last thing it seems to try flashing is "sid_a" then it gives me the 7004 error
I have accidentally flashed/partition DL on user files.
I am guessing that wiped everything on there didn't it :|

Well there goes my whatsapp history, I really should stop messing with it when I am tired late at night after coming back from a long trip.
I have tried multiple different ones,
The one from https://www.lanzous.com/i3y5ocd does not seem to work for me, it gives me an invalid mismatched DLL type of error
The one I am using I can't remember where I got it but will post once I get a chance to look it up again
Would doing the refurbished option be any good?

In the LGUP zip file there is an LGUPD and an LGUPE exe. Correct? Which of those two did you use? Also I think refurbish would be the best option. At this point.
---------- Post added at 03:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:54 PM ----------
The upgrade option wouldn't work because of the firmware incompatibilities. You could only use upgrade going from same firmware family. Like Google Fi 8.0 to Google Fi 9.0. or Amazon 8.0---> 9.0 etc.
