Taking a picture with front camera.

Hi all how do you take a pic with the front facing camera? When I launch camera app it only seems to let me take pictures using the back camera?
Thanks all
Chris

I like Google Camera app most, its simple. With the LTE version there is gyroscope so you can do photosphere.
Trust me, "Nexus Cam: KitKat Camera". I've tried a lot of apps and this one still blows my mind sometimes. The HDR mode is fantastic.
I've added proof.

And yes, the stock camera app has HDR mode available.

The one by Radcam? I checked the app and there is no HDR in the screenshots, but THERE IS on my phone. I've got no clue how or why. Either way, even without HDR the camera takes good pictures, a lot better then the stock app which was crap.
Need picture capturing tips

Hi, i have also installed this nexus camera app and i can also see an HDR option in it, but when i take pics after turning this option ON i dont see any difference as compared to the stock camera app. In fact i rate stock camera app to be better than this nexus camera app.
But the pic which u had posted still tries to convince me to keep using nexus camera, the pic is marvelous .
Anyways m just asking u for any tips which u can give to me so that i can also capture some great pictures using this camera app, ur response is awaited

Well, the reason I searched for another app was that the stock one took blurry pictures and had very few settings.
Now for taking pictures: always take more then one. I have maybe 10-15 pictures of that fire out of which I only kept about 4 of them. Many will come out blurry or simply not satisfying enough. Try to center the picture well and play with the exposure settings until you find the right one. Also try tilting the phone up and down so that it modifies it's contrast and brightness automatically and you'll eventually see the picture you're looking for on the screen. Snap some pictures and move it slightly from picture to picture so that each is a tiny bit different. One of them will be THE ONE.
It's not a great camera, but I've seen a lot worse.
Protip: Nexus Camera allows you to make timelapses (Video -> Settings/Options -> Timelapse)
I honestly can't tell the difference between the stock app and other camera apps. The pictures they produce look very similar to me. Am I visually impaired ?

I got photosphere working too.
Download camera libs from http://www.apkmirror.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/m_preview_GoogleCamera_libs.zip
copy ".so" files to system/lib but do not override existing libs, only copy which are not in system/lib folder.
As always, first backup backup backup.
How is it? Really fast as said in op ? Can anyone share screen shots... Please

There's something wrong with this update - 2.5.050.
NEXUS 4
Before, I could use HDR whenever.. now its icon appears in 4:3 aspect ratio only. Anyone?

You're saying that on your Nexus 4 with THAT Camera version you can actively select HDR? You do have the HDR icon appearing when 16:9? Try it..
At least one other person from androidpolice got the same issue.

Noticeably faster HDR on my N4, and the front facing camera, which used to be a laggy mess, now runs fluidly! That's something I've been longing for since Jellybean days, so good move, Google.

I totally lost HDR on my N4. No icon or anything.

I changed to full resolution and it enabled HDR as an option. At 16:9 / 6mp, the option disappears.

i installed today the update from the playstore and everything works great incl. hdr on Front camera!
I installed too from playstore today but i have hdr only on 8mp..neither in 16:9 ratio nor to front camera..what's happening??
sent by nexy 4
I can turn HDR on eather 8MP or front camera,
only 16:9 can't.
I experienced crashes with this new version.
OmniROM 4.4.4 + AK kernel
Has this been updated past the initial 2.5v, I had issues with flash not timed right

I have isues with flash too in latest version..
sent by nexy 4
Downgrading to the version before the update fixes the issue for now
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
the flash bug should have been fixed. the NO-HDR on 16:9 "feat" does still exist. just to be clear.
IF you select a format ratio of 4:3 on either the front or the rear camera you WILL get HDR.
IF you select a ratio of 16:9 on either of the cameras you WON'T get HDR.
HDR from 2.5 on will ONLY work on ratio 4:3. that's not weird, it is rather unacceptable.
I still have the flash issue as of last night

Thanks. I tried that one but I can't get HDR+ to work. I tried another pixel camera port and while hdr+ does work the pictures in low light are not as good as the stock camera.

any suggestions on best working camera port?

gcam - does it use the laser for focus?

With all the problems the s20 ultra had with focus, seems it was all fixed by adding the laser with the note.
But even if it's just for the main lens, does gcam focus properly? And does it use the laser?
Thanks
I just performed a test with both the stock camera and gcam on my N20U and the focusing speeds were very similar, that's about all I can say. Hopefully this helps.

Gcam produces soft images as compared to Default app. I'm using 7.3 Arnova. Which one are you using? IS IT Better than the stock app?

Which XML are you using? i tested both Arnova's and Urnxy's ports and found stock camera to be better, currently i'm using ZGcam (Zoran's) and i found it better for normal shots, and HDR, no tele or wide support though
I'm on exynos BTW
Thanks!

I found the focus not working on my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra unless I toggled between some other camera mode (like video) and then back to Photo. This was true of both Urnyx05's GCam_7.3.018 and Arnova's GCam_6beta.201115.1444build-8.0.101
I tried GCam for the n2u and no dice, it starts and crashes before it comes up. Do you guys have it running on Exynos? And if so, can you point out the version you use?
Gcam 7.3 Urnyx uses the laser autofocus.
I pointed my old S5 to it and there, the blue diode is running as well it does with the Samsung Camera app.
I think the difference is Gcam does a lot of post processing.
U have working GCam in my posts.
