I bought a Galaxy s9, a couple of weeks ago and the next update came:
G900ZHU2ARE6 / G9600OWA2ARE6 / G9600ZCU2ARE6
my question is, is it advisable to update it? or I wait for Android P?
Currently I have the G9600ZHU1ARBG version
Of course update it

Just curious, but why do you think it's not ok to update. I've seen very few if any problems with an official update.
I just did the update and I regret it so much. First of all, dozens of my apps don't work anymore. Most noticeably - Swipe Keyboard and Coinbase Wallet. Besides that, I can't apply custom themes from themeGalaxy anymore because the demo themes are limited to 10 minutes of use now. Good Lock refuses to work as well and I hate the new Quick settings and task window. Also getting random crashes on every other app now. My phone is entirely stock and not rooted. All in all, awful experience for me.

That was my initial thought. Luckily I managed to fix the app crashing issue (my custom launcher design was at fault). However, I had to revert to the standard theme and I'm not a fan of the new non-customizable task changer and notification bar. I'll learn to live with those, I guess. It's pointless to stay at an older Android version for such minor reasons.

Overall it is a huge upgrade over Oreo, few changes to adjust to but as is the way with updates, personally I prefer the new task changer and so on now, while weirdly when using Goodlock on Oreo I hated that design and always left it as stock
Update G9600
Go to Setup / update / manual update / search for update
The phone is loading the official Samsung S9 G9600 update.
(every month between 10 and 15 has an update)
In January promised update to Android PIE official.

My issues with the task changer are the fact that you can't swipe the apps down anymore (it now opens them instead of dismissing) and the inability of leaving the task changer by simply tapping the background. It just disrupts my "workflow" and I'm getting annoyed by it every single time. Oh, and I'm always locking my chat apps but now the unlock button is in the lower right corner of the app card, which is where my thumb usually sits when I scroll through - I'm constantly unlocking the app instead of switching to it.
But I'll get used to it, I guess.

I don't lock chat apps, and if I am closing recents, I just close them all using the "Close All" button anyway so that doesn't really bother me, just took a bit of time to get used to swiping side to side instead of up and down to scroll through them, but while I was running one of the beta's of Pie the close all button was missing so I got used to swiping up to close them anyway, like you say you adjust over time

That's my problem. Swiping up and down seems normal and about half the time I swipe up and close the app window. I believe someone suggested it and it got the standard canned response.

Can say the same here, feels sluggish. I updated it to Pie after hearing great stuff from others.
I'll see if clearing app data of most apps makes any difference.
On the official beta I'm not seeing any sluggishness at all but I do see others on it complaining about it.
First I thought why people hate on this os, I can deal with it, I love stock android but I have also used miui in the past so color os should be fine, but thinking that was a big mistake.
It doesn't support basic android 9 pie features like swipping right to clear banner notifications, a screen on time chart (leave alone digital wellbeing), dark mode of atleast some sort (all flashy white colours, cannot even take the amoled's advantage) and many more. Even a redmi phone with android 6 or 7 with miui 10 has all android 9 features and here's color os lacking even at the basics.
And even its own features are incompliant. You can only create dual apps for select 2-3 apps, unlike in miui where you could clone any app. Also what is this thing with the call menu when you receive a call, its of 2 kinds, one in which you have to swipe up/down to take/end a call and other being you just have to click the call pick/end button. They need to show their customisation skills there, wow.
And though the phone supports L1 liscence and has a hdr capable display it still doesn't support hdr content on netflix or amazon prime. Their answer to that is an osie vision effect feature in settings>display>osie vision effect, which btw to use you have to also enable smart slidebar(in convinience aid) and then go the supported app>pull out smart slidebar and then enable osie effect. All this then only to see that it says 'not supported in current app'.
Now the main reason for my frustration being not able to download files when the phone is locked. I put anything on download, may it be a video in youtube app or a file in chrome or any download manager app, it downloads only till 1-2 mins after the phone is locked. I come after an hour or so and the download is stuck there. How can one not be frustrated then.
So conclusion is to hell with color os, just waiting for a stable custom rom(pixel experience rom for that matter).

Yeah I know few development for this os in the process. For sot I use actiondash. Substratum works mostly on stock android so no use trying them. And yes about the background downloading I tried locking the apps, turning off battery optimizations for them but didn't try turning off sleep mode, will do. Thanks.

I guess so too. Because they don't have much time to deeply modify the OS.
I'm facing a weird issue on my Realme X. After updating an app on Play Store, I don't see "app updated" confirmation on notification panel. I need to open Play store to check if the app is updated or not. My play store version is 17.8.14. All other notification working like when an update is available, when I install a new app etc. Only I don't get notification confirmation after updating an existing app.

Clear data of play store & play services, reboot and let those update itself, then update your apps. Also check for if any specific notification is disabled for play store.

This doesn't help. I know all these workarounds and tried already. I have created a post on Google Community and it seems like most people are facing this bug starting from 17.8.14 update. And after 17.9.17 update, it's even worse. There is no notification from Play Store whatsoever (no notification when an update is available, when an update is completed, when a new app is installed successfully). Google has screwed the notification function on Play Store.

Well can't say. No issues here.
READ THE OP FIRST BEFORE POSTING!!
This thread is for discussing bugs, issues, work around, and suggestions for the beta for the US models. Please no discussion of the international models. There's already a thread for that, and I don't want to confuse bugs/fixes for the wrong model.
If you have the international model (N975F), please see @henklbr 's thread here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...laxy-note10-sm-n975f-official-oneui2-t3987433
Stay on topic. This thread is to discuss issues with the beta, not how to get it. There's already a couple threads for that as well. The basic step is to sign up for the beta in the Members App, or download the OTA from firmware.science. For further assistance, please see @tlbland0426 's thread at:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...available-note-10-unlocked-sm-n975u1-t4002783
When posting your issues, please state what software version you're on (current one is 2ZSL5), and if you did a dirty flash, restored data, or did a complete clean install.
I know this isn't an official channel to report to Samsung, but bugs discussed here can be forwarded to Samsung in the beta app.
Please read the OP and the entire thread before posting.
Been running the beta (ZSK3) for less than 24 hours. I did officially register, and started to download the OTA through device settings, but it requires WiFi. I was at a hotel and the WiFi there was achingly slow, so I went to firmware.science so I could just download the OTA with LTE, then manually flashed it through recovery.
I performed a clean install. Factory data reset, flash OTA, then another factory data reset. Then I set it up from scratch. I didn't restore anything.
Here is my experience so far:
Pros:
1. Dark Mode - I love the native system-wide dark mode.
2. Space below keyboard - I use gestures and GBoard, and I like how now even third party keyboards are pushed up a bit, and you have the keyboard switcher and close keyboard buttons.*
3. Charge Status Toggle - Ability to turn off the charge status. (Thank you Samsung!)
4. Fingerprint Icon Toggle - Ability to turn the fingerprint reader icon on or off.*
5. Improved Biometrics - Fingerprint reader seems to work MUCH better now. Even with the last few updates on Pie, my FP reader was almost worthless. Now it's nearly flawless.
Cons/bugs:
1. Brightness Slider - No longer able to display brightness control on top in the notification shade. I use the brightness slider a lot, and it's frustrating having to fully expand the notification shade when I want to adjust it.
2. Gestures - The new gestures aren't very intuitive. I prefer the gestures from Pie. I know I can still use those, but I'm really trying to get used to this style, since it's what Google will push everyone toward anyway. This system of gestures is Google fault not Samsung's.
3. Home screen Jank - I occasionally get issues with the home screen freezing. Seems to be when I'm having issues with the gestures, particularly getting Google Assistant to activate via swipe.
4. Syncing issues - There's several Samsung apps/services that will not sync. Samsung Pass, Samsung Internet. Samsung Contacts, and a few others. Under Samsung account settings, when trying to sync them, they say "syncing" then change to "Couldn't sync." This occurs in WiFi and cellular.
5. Disney+ - Not compatible from the Play Store. I was able to install it, log in, and watch movies with a work around, so I know it works. Not sure if this is Disney's problem, or Samsung's. I know it works on other devices running Android 10, so who knows.
6. Netflix - this could've been my issue. I was in the Netflix beta program, and Netflix installed, but kept telling me to update, then telling me it wasn't compatible. I had to leave the beta, and sideload an older version from apkmirror. Working fine now.
7. WiFi issues - It connects to WiFi just fine, but some apps wouldn't load or allow me to sign in while on WiFi. See below.
8.. VUDU - It would initially force close. I deleted and sideloaded an older version that would freeze on the load screen. Updated that version through the Play Store and it wouldn't force close, but would freeze. I was on WiFi and when I turned it off VUDU loaded. (WiFi was pulling 250 Mbps down, so it wasn't the issue).
9. Hulu - When I tried to log in, it kept saying couldn't reach server. Again, was on WiFi in a restaurant pulling 250 Mbps down. But once I shut off WiFi, it signed right in.
10. Full Immersive Mode - This option is still missing in Samsung Internet and most video apps. It works just fine in YouTube and Disney+. We should have the option of using full Immersive Mode at least in the internet browser. As far as movies, make the rounded corners on the black bar less rounded.
Disney+ app workaround. See below.

Yeah, it's not available in the Play Store on the beta. But I have found a workaround and got it installed and working.
Download all 4 files from here:

Install the SAI.apk
After that has been installed open that app and then select Install APKs
Select the 3 other apk files that you downloaded then click Select (3) and it will install the working Disney+ app

You actually can put it back on top, you just need to set this.
Just press the 3 dots when pulling the dropdown menu, then select the quick layout panel
No issues with Disney+ and Netflix either

Yes no issues with that, but i cannot remember if i installed the apps before i upgraded...
One of the only real issues I'm having is with the new gestures, mainly the recent apps gesture. When using it straight from the home screen it works like 50/50 for me and sometimes causes OneUI Home to crash but using it when you have an app open it seems to work much better.
Edit: (2ZSK3 obviously). I got the OTA through the beta registration and had some issues because I had #hex installed so I did a factory reset. I did however restore everything from Samsung Cloud afterwards.

It still shows as incompatible in the Play Store for me. Go to the Play Store and look for Disney+. Below the unsintall/open buttons, tell me if you see a message in red lettering that the app is now incompatible with your device.

Yes, the recents gesture from home screen is very wonky. I had some home crashes too when I first installed and set everything up, and I actually wound up doing another factory reset to get rid of them.

I have been running the U1 firmware on my Verizon Note 10+ since the day it launched. It retains wifi calling, volte calling, and visual voicemail. The only thing missing that I've found so far is native video calling in the phone app but that wasn't a big deal to me as I never use it anyways.

How'd I miss that! Thank you!
Also found doing factory reset after installing this that whatsapp would no longer verify my number.
So today I sent several feedback reports to Samsung through the OneUI beta app. Please keep the feedback coming. In my experience with past betas, Samsung really does listen to our feedback when it's directed through the proper channels.
Besides the new animations I don't see anything really worth writing home about. It's beta so there's quite a bit of bugs. Android auto on my android 10.25 screen exhibit a buzz and audio moving from car to phone sporadically. The new gesture navigation is not as easy to use. I much prefer using Pie control (which is not 100% compatible now) for launching home, recent, and back. One handed operation to swipe diagonally up to shrink the screen. Diagonally down to bring top of the screen down. I've also seen more battery drain and on screen fingerprint isn't as accurate anymore. Beta 2 is supposed those 2 things. The one UI lock up is also being addressed.
I'm hoping beta 2 will soon be releases for US unlocked. Otherwise, I think I will switch back but dreading that as it will factory reset my device.

Beta 2 was released this morning finally. I agree this is one of the buggiest betas I've tried in the last few years. I'm the opposite of you with the fingerprint reader though. It was almost useless on Android 9. On this beta it's much faster and more accurate. Works nearly 100% of the time for me. Although it seems more sensitive to the screen being dirty.
Beta 2 has been released
I awoke to a notification that beta 2 was released. Below is the changeling from Samsung.
[ Beta Software Update )
:l S/W Version
- ZSKH
:l Bug Fix
- The screen flickers
- When returning from some app to the home screen the
background can appear to be blurred
- The status bar disappears when turning the screen off,
/vhile some app is opened
- When taking a screenshot, and opening Recent window
after that, the screenshot of recent window is captured
- Keybaord is cut at the bottom
- Keyboard can't be resized
- Two contacts app display after update
- Application that has been removed from the folder and
laced on Home Screen disappears
- After update, app shape changed to Android app shape
- AOD doesn't appear while charging
- A Noise can be heard when connecting a Bluetooth device
- Improved gestures interactions, some problems have been
axed.
:l Known Issues
- No scrolling in widget state.
- The Fingerprint icon stays on the screen after unlocking the
device.
: Disappears when unlocking with fingerprint icon displayed
)n lock screen
I took the OTA this morning and it seems to be running ok so far. The screen flickering was something I saw alot on beta 1 and that seems to be corrected. My battery life was pretty good on beta 1 also so I will have to see how this performs. Thought it was interesting it has the December security patch already.

My lack of patience and frustration with beta 1 got to me and downgraded to 9 over the weekend. However I did not deregistered for the beta just in case I want to try future betas. The one most frustrating for me was audio output going from car to phone and vice versa when using android auto. I did report it so maybe it will get addressed in beta 3.

You can also restore apps in Smart Switch if you had backed it up on Pie.
Hi, I just got a Note 10+ and I haven't transferred over to it yet. I was playing around with it and before I knew it, the Android 11 update was pushed to it and as y'all know it forces it's way in even after you disable it. So far with minimal apps and no sim card, the phone seems fine. There are some missing edge panels I can't access anymore in the galazy store or google play for that matter.
That being said, are people here generally happy about Android 11? What are some well knwon issues?
I have been skeptical about Samsung phones since my Note 8 to Note 9. As they get updates, the phones start running more clunky. Almost like they purposefully want you to upgrade.
Android 11 (one UI 3.1) is all I know on this phone. I came from the Note 4 and S5. Just got my Note 10 as well with Android 9 and two days later did a system update to Android 11. For me, it was about 10 updates in a row and 2 or 3 of them were roughly 2GB. I should have done factory reset before doing the updates, but then again, I didn't have the phone that long before doing it. I wish there was a setting for the transparency on the notification pull down, apps drawer, recent apps, etc but's faily tastefully done. They give the option to change the tranpsarncy on the lock screen but not the main screen which is backwards. I don't like the new fat vertical volume sliders. They look nice but harder to use because your finger's in the way. LOL. The horizontal ones were wider than these are tall. Some say Android 11 is slower and harder on the battery. The battery life isn't as good as I hoped.
I don't have issues with Edge Screens missing in the Galaxy Store in Android 11. Never used Google Play for edge screens. but then again, I never used Edge Screens before, so I wouldn't know what was missing.
One thing I noticed right off the bat is the brightness of the Note10 isn't as bright when the brightness slider is set to the same position as my ancient S5. I put the display setting on Vivid and the white balance/gamma is too red. I put the Cool/Warm slider all the way to Cool and it's still a tad Red.

THere was this edge screen app called Edgeboard that used to be available and was available on my Note 9. It's no longer available
So battery life is shorter and Note 10+ is slower on Android 11. FFS
I don't see Edgeboard in the Galaxy Store. Just repeating what little I read about Android 11 and battery life and performance. Maybe others can chime in. I'm sure it's mentioned in this forum in detail.
Pie is so much better.
I'll never leave 10 or 11 load on my 10+ which is a fast and very stable platform that's running very well. Security is more than adequate.
Some of my best trusted app's functionality be destroyed by the it.
It's big sister crapware

Overlays allowed, no cpu cycle robbing scoped storage, trusted apps like Karma Firewall's logging feature is fully functional.
For a few perks you trade major functionality in the name of security and privacy.
When Google is the biggest imbedded privacy issue to begin with.
As for security... no saving a dumb bunny.
Sorry Gookill, I'm not buying it

I gave you an app example of an overlay and one reason why scoped storage is undesirable.
Here's what I can see in Karma running on Pie.

That was a stock one I think... be careful what you allow to update or flash.
If you have a fast, stable platform that is fulfilling its mission, leave it be.

That sounds good but again these updates are forced down your throat. Did you mention a program that can block them?

You need to block the carrier update apk. Conversely if it downloads clearing the system cache (or maybe a factory reset) should clear it if it hasn't flashed yet. Last ditch effort and not a good long term solution.
If you avoid/ turn off wifi to stop the update that won't work forever because the update apk can turn on wifi and any other apks it needs as well as certain towers (AT&T probably other carriers too) are "update" towers that will download the update fast.
I use a package disabler to keep my updater neutered. https://www.packagedisabler.com/
An ADB edit is also another way to get it done on a unrooted stock phone.
Carriers like AT&T can block updates on their end if you pester them enough
Get it done asap whichever solution you choose.
Hello,
it seems we are close to get the update to Android 12 on our device:

Yes, CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.1.A.0.533 (Android 12) was released ( https://xpericheck.com/XQ-BT52 ) 4 days ago, but according to the phone update check and Xperia Companion, no software update is available. Phone is using stock firmware, WiFi/4G is available and I have made several restarts. However when CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.0.A.9.11 (Android 11 update) was released month ago, I got it right away, at the same release day.
Based Reddit, a lot users are facing same problem. Some say that software repair using the Xperia Companion pushes update to phone. But I don't want to and I don't have time to reset my phone and set up everything, including every app settings from scratch.

After switching from 11 to 12 android, you need to make a mandatory reset to the factory with the removal of all data in order to avoid bugs.

it is folklore, no such need at all.
I have received the update (62.1.A.0.533) this morning.
Installation took around 45 minutes.
Haven't had any technical issues per se so far, but am still struggling with the look and feel of Android 12.
i have been using the phone for almost a week now after the new update (62.1.A.0.533), i haven't done any factory resets, here is what i noticed:
1. Battery is draining a lot faster than Android 11
2. UI is a bit bulky, especially the toggle buttons. Definitely preferred Android 11
3. Screen Mirroring is not working for me. WFD service keeps crashing (that's a major issue because i mirror all my videos)
4. I had previously mapped the power button (click twice) to GCAM. Now it's not working. Only works with the stock Camera
Overall, a negative experience. I would not recommend the update.
If anyone else is facing issues please let me know

Post some screenshots of Android 12 on your Xperia, please.
Do you have separate toggles for wifi and mobile internet?
@Elberens, the same question for you too )
Hi guys, please keep us informed on how Android 12 behaves on the Xperia 10 III.
Hope that the battery drain reported by Elberens is just an isolated case, did you realized what is causing the drain? The app Better Battery Stats can help in detecting the cause of an abnormal power consumption:

I got the update notification yesterday and installed last night. So far I'm not having any technical or performance issues. All seems to be working. Still, I find the new UI a big step backwards in comparison to Android 11. Everything is so much bigger (menus, quick settings) using lots of dead space.
There aren't separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Mobile Data internet. You can't turn on or off with one tap. You have to open a submenu now...
The quick settings toggles are way bigger. You get only 4 in two lines when sliding down (or 8 if you slide with two fingers or twice). Which means that you will be needing an extra step for some actions.
I'm missing the functionality where on Android 11 I could use Google pay right away when holding the power button. Now there is a toggle in the quick settings instead (again extra step to use). Instead there is just a restart, shutdown and emergency menu if you hold the power button.
I don't get the new features of android 12 or it just doesn't seem to make a difference for my uses. The new bigger quick settings are annoying for me and if I had known before, I wouldn't have updated. If there was an easy way to roll back to 11 I would happily do it. But I guess I can't do that without flashing an older firmware on the phone. Maybe a future update would allow to make the quick menus a bit smaller?

I've read somewhere that after factory reset the separate toggles for wifi and mobile data internet would show up.
::edit::
Sony's Android 12 update has separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Data, but only if you factory reset
The Android 12 update for the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III ships with separate toggles for Wi-Fi and mobile data.

another way:
[....] if you want to get back a dedicated button to toggle your Wi-Fi, Mishaal Rahman shared a command on Twitter that you can execute via adb to get it back.
adb shell settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles "$(settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles),wifi"
Right this morning I got the message of a System Update from Sony (I live in Italy).
I think I'll wait some days before update, would be like to read more feedbacks on how the device behaves under Android 12, in particular concerning the battery draining, I quite happy with my Xperia 10 III that overnight (9pm to 8am) drains just a ridiculous 3%.

1) Recheck again app -s permissions, disable or uninstall unwanted ones, disable location wifi/bluetooth scan and wait for few days until the battery is calibrated and user habits/trends are known for the operating system.
Also You may try enable system cached apps under developer options -
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS21/comments/r7tdta
2) It can't be changed, and you have to get used to it and hope that some update will fix/change it.
3) This is something new.
4) Have You tried XPERI+ for remap - https://github.com/ivaniskandar/shouko
You must agree this is a rather ingenious way of getting people to update their systems regularly. You're not told beforehand what the update changes, and only afterwards do you notice that the update was a downgrade in every single aspect. You want to swear that you'll never install a system update ever again, yet you know that you will have to do just that in the hopes that eventually some update will fix what the previous ones broke.
I must admit as much I agree that a proper changelog should be displayed before any update, I do like that android 12 update. Getting older (ok, I'm not that old) I'm pretty happy with the bigger/new layout

On the stock Android 11 you can make the UI big from Settings > Display > Display size. This is in addition to and separate from Settings > Display > Font size. So I still think the forced size in Android 12 was not necessary...
I updated my device on Saturday, everything went OK. I'm rather satisfied with the new UI, display size and font size can be adjusted as in Android 11, some aspects are nice, some others less, on the other hand it's impossible to create a UI that is good for everybody. There are a lot of launchers and ways to customize the appearance of a smartphone, so this is not a problem in my view. Apart from the graphical aspect, Android 12 brings new interesting features and I think this is more important.
I appreciate that Sony kept the media volume steps equal to 30, which is finer enough for listening music. At the moment, the power usage seems to be as before, my device drained only 3% overnight (9pm to 8am) as with android 11, and that's great.
The smartphone seems responsive and fluid, I didn't explored all the functionalities yet, but I would say that this update is OK.
Is it just me or do apps 'reload' more often after the update? I feel like caching of background apps is worse but I'm not sure.
Other than that and the combined internet toggle, this update is alright.
The overall app managing should be more optimized in Android 12, however you could try the above mentioned option in the Developer settings (suspend execution of cached app).
There are just a couple of commands to be sent via ADB the to restore separate wifi/mobile toggles, I'm waiting to see how is to deal with the combined internet one.

Noticed this too. For example, if I use "Simple Gallery Pro" from F-Droid to browse through some videos and I open a video with Kodi, then after I'm done watching the video and return to the Simple Gallery app, it will often reload, forcing me to navigate the folder structure once again.
I didn't have this issue with Android 11 - returning to the gallery app would bring me back to where I left when Kodi was launched. I'll try changing that setting mentioned above by @code010101 to see if it helps.
