enjoying this phone more with Root - Moto G7 Power Guides, News, & Discussion

Rooted the phone 2 days ago and it decreased heat. ????? And reduced jitter with a few tweaks here and there without battery life taking a hit ?

Wicked as number for sure !!

Update on my second day. Have been a very power user so far

Ending my 3rd day on one cycle after a clean flash. Not using any placebo mods like crappy fde or anything that doesn't do anything good to a device using EAS. Threw everything I got to it. Was connected to Bluetooth at least 10 hrs these 3 days.

[Q] Huge Drop in Battery Life after 2.17 Update

Hi all,
My battery life on the One X has been great before the 2.17 update. Better than the average being reported on this forum.
After 2.17 it plummeted to 14 hours or so with barely 2 hours of screen time.
Nothing was changed after the update on my end. Same apps, etc. All on stock.
What are my options? Will a hard reset solve it?
Thanks.
Update
The factory reset did the trick. Battery is back functioning properly and I did get extra juice out of the 2.17 update.
If you do find a weird drop in battery life and the ONLY change is that you updated the firmware, a hard reset may solve it like it did for me.

You should go thru a couple of charging cycles before complaining about battery time.. everytime you flash a new rom or update the phone the battery has to calibrate ( as far as i know ), and that takes about 2 - 4 recharge cycles..
in case you already done that, then check you sync settings, brightness if its too high, or low.. Maybe you are used to be on wifi instead of 3g ?
It has gone through over 10 full charge cycles.
Sync is off. Brightness minimum.
Wifi and 3G usage patterns are similar.
Just noticed that Phone Idle is consuming a lot more.
Maybe it's the new radio which is affecting your signal, try flashing an older radio. My battery life is better on the new firmware.

i first of all found the battery life had dropped, i ended up resetting the phone and it got much better, i think some old app was getting lodged in the memory and preventing deep sleep.
i ran it for about 2 weeks before i decided to wipe.
@nikzDHD
I suspect it could be that. My provider does not provide that strong a connectivity. But that is something I can't change for the next year or so.
@audiobookman
I decided to wipe it today. Also waited about 2-3 weeks before deciding enough is enough.
--
I did a HTC Battery test and found that my battery was in good condition and performed way better than their baseline. So, I went on to wipe the phone clean and started from scratch.
It was not a painful process actually. Most of my stuff are on the cloud (Google/Dropbox/Skydrive) and the only things I had to back up was the list of apps I had and some settings from apps like Tasker and Minimalist Text. I got everything back up and running within an hour + (reinstalling 60+ apps and getting them setup the way they were takes time).
So far, battery seems a lot better and back to the former period but, it is too early to tell. I'll give it a week of use and a fair amount of full charge cycles before commenting.
Will update this thread then.
If anyone has other ideas please sound out. Thanks a lot!

I do a factory reset after every OTA because of the reasons you mention of this thread. After it battery life seems to get better or at least not worse as on previous firmware version. I hate doing that but it seems the only way

Battery Life TERRIBLY sucks

My battery life on 4.3 stock was 8 hours screen time (half brightness I believe)
Rooted and flashed a custom rom and kernel 7hr30min screen time
Flashed different kernels dropped to 6hr max screen time (without factory reset)
After installing Xposed and many many modules the screen time kept dropping to like 5hr to 6hr
Updated to KitKat and rooted 4:30min to 5 HOUR MAX screen time PLUS phone got hot ALOT OF TIMES
***RIGHT NOW*** Flashed a custom ROM HyperDrive with Colonel X latest and Compulsion latest BOTH 3hr30min to 4hr30min MAX screen on (EVEN with Jovy23's kernel settings that got him AMAZING battery life with ConservativeX governor - It still did not fix the issue not even a little - I still like Compulsion which was awesome when I was on jellybean) :'(
Same settings for all the above set ups. Whenever I flash a ROM I ALWAYS clean flash and I DO NOT have Titanium Backup NOR do I use any other restoration app. I tried to clear and format every partition. I formatted SD card. SAME issue. I am frustrated by the battery life; it DOES NOT last me a day when on stock unrooted it was easily 8 hours. Also I do not use auto-brightness cuz the sensor uses more battery, so it was on half-brightness)
Someone please help me. The worst thing about a phone is the battery life. I usually browse Chrome and Facebook and for these simple tasks my battery dies quickly (WTH?!). I can't even think about gaming (and I REALLY want to GAME), but I know the battery life would die so much.
Is my phone defective? I tripped Knox. I already had a warranty replacement in like the first 2 weeks cuz of Knox issues stock. WTH is wrong with my phone. I want to format and clean EVERY SINGLE THING on my phone to get it the 8 hours screen on time I used to get. No matter what I do my battery life right now WILL NOT go above 4hr30min to 5hrs screen on. I used to watch Netflix for quite a while back on my stock Jellybean / rooted Jellybean days, now it dies extremely fast.
What should I do? I was thinking of flashing AOSP so it cleans up whatever Touchwiz and Samsung related is on my phone and then re-flash touchwiz so everything is set up correctly. I tried to use the mega-wipe script for a certain Note 3 model but it stopped at like 10% to 20%, so that route did not go well (I manually wiped everything data, internal, etc, before flashing many ROMs and this problem persisted).
I cannot do anything good on my phone until this issue is fixed. I hate clean-flashing and setting up things (I think titanium backup and stuff screws up your system) all the time. I cannot game, I cannot download good apps, I cannot do anything that is not online based or can be backed up online. Apparently my battery state is stated as "good" on the system.
"... All of this in under one day..." Give it a few cycles over the next few days. It'll change. I've been using HyperDrive with ColonelX with the conservative governor tweaked for performance. Can't really say much about the battery life since I have the 10000mAh battery.

Dude, if it's all under one day. You need to let a ROM and kernel set In. You can't drive a car without wheels. Just give it 2 or 3 days it will begin to get better. That's what I think too but I give it some days to stabilised if you will . Then my battery goes from normal to good to great. It won't right away start getting great battery life. Unless you have a kernel your phone don't like and flash another it does like battery life improvements where almost instant at least in my case. Like now I'm getting Ok battery life. It's not the best. But it holds. I might switch kernels tonight to spice things up.

I meant the right now part is under a few days. Idk why i said all under one day (it was late night). This has beena problem since February at least
Trust me I know you have to let a ROM and Kernel set in but my phone keeps working harder than its supposed to. Screen off battery is good, so wake locks are not the problem. The problem is cpu wise something is messed up that it puts my cpu to drain huge amounta of battery
Even you tried another or different ROM still happens?

I had this issue but it went away when I updated my phone to 4.2.2

The rom and kernels might be the one messing your battery life, since your battery is in good state, but why not try replacing a battery if you have an extra and see the results...

How do you find that out?
There is an app that can report this value. The premise is that certain cpu's have different values which indicate how the cpu will perform. The problem is, the same cpu can over time end up reporting different values which pretty much means it is not really a set hardware value and most likely means nothing.
You can find the large thread about it if you look, but it was pretty much debunked as a really value at the time.
first download the new rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709867
put it on a sd card
make sure you have a custom recovery
1 go to setting back up and recovery do a reset from there
2 let the reset be done then restart the phone and go to recovery
from recovery do a full wipe factory restet
3 install the zip from the sd card
4 pick the apps you want with aroma installer and install compulsion kernel
4 finish installation and boot up
set up the phone and enjoy it bro.....

Nice battery life enhancer.
You have to let the rom settle before you can get accurate battery life akin to the rom and kernel. Trust me I know this as a fact. I have been flashing roms like crazy since the days of the Samsung admire and the rom takes days to settle.

I have the same problem. 4.3 battery life was 6 hours screen time, 4.4 down to 3 hours screen time. Note 3 used to be my ideal, perfect phone. 4.4 ruined that.

You made sure to toggle allows allow scanning off?
Toggle either power-saving or GPS only under location?
Power saving mode if applicable?
Turning of haptic feedback?
The always allow scanning seems to be the number one battery killer for me. I turned that off and noticed immediately better battery life. Almost akin to an extra minute per one percent, which adds up.

Yep, did all that stuff from day 1 back on 4.3. Updating to 4.4 was the most frustrating thing ever. Many people here report great battery life with 4.4, but many like myself had it slashed in half upon upgrading. It ruined an otherwise perfect phone.

Battery Life AFTER Lollipop Updaate

has anyone else seen a dramatic decrease in battery life after the update? My battery went from lasting all day, to now Im lucky to get 5 hrs before its down to 30%..... overall ive seen a drastic decrease in overall performance... has anyone else expierenced worse performance?

You are not alone. I used to be able to go a couple of days on a single charge. Now I'm struggling to make it 12 hours on a single charge.
I was getting almost 2 days when I first started using the note4. After a few months passed I noticed battery life dropping pretty fast throughout the day. Factory resets helped a little, but not much. Lollipop upgrade plus factory reset has seemed to help. I get through a full day now with light browsing/gps(maps)/gaming and fair amount of spotify streaming. Nothing close to what I was getting fresh out of the box.
I am experiencing similar battery issues. Used to charge my phone once every two days. Now, I carry my charger attached to my hip like a feeble iPhone hipster.
I'm also having issues!
I also have seen a large decrease in my battery life since updating to Lollipop. I tried factory resetting twice and nothing seems to help. I was getting 8-9 hours of screen on time on Android 4.4.4 but now I'm somewhere between 4.5-5.5.
Also my note 4 will occasionally get really hot after just normal web browsing. I'm very disappointed in the update. However, performance seems to be a little better....but it wasn't ever really an issue.
I just read an article on gsmarena about the international version of the Samsung galaxy note 4 receiving a firmware update.....hopefully that fixes the problems we're having. We just have to wait for Verizon to send out the update. (Which will probably take a couple of weeks to months).
One thing to keep in mind is that we (those who are having these issues) need to make sure that we contact Verizon in order to make sure that they acknowledge the problem and send out a fix ASAP.
I'm having the same issues since the update...battery sucks. What's the easiest way to inform verizon?
Passpoint Wi-Fi
Noticed that there is a "new" Passpoint Wi-Fi feature that will automatically connect to certified access points.
This is ON by default after the Lollipop update. (Settings >> Wi-Fi >> Advanced)
I just turned it off to see if battery life improves. Never been a fan of automatic Wi-Fi connection features.
Checking on the Lock Screen Weather/Location Update next.
My Note 4 has the battery drain issue now after updating last night to Lollipop but am giving a couple days to see if any improvement. I did do a battery pull after all the updates (system and apps) and it did seem to help.
My Note originally for a couple of days had the battery drain issue. However, after uninstalling the Google Fit app then a reboot the battery life has been great.
Maybe try a battery pull for 20 seconds as well.

I think the easiest way to contact Verizon is just by talking with the technical support. Good representatives are hit or miss but Verizon's are generally good.
If you contact them just explain the issue that you are having and they should be putting it on record saying that multiple people are calling in concerning a battery problem. They may have even figured out the culprit (s) and/or found a fIx.
I'm going to be calling today.

Horrible Battery Life on Nougat

So Just to announce where I am coming from, I am a Sony fan for the past 4 years, Had the Z2 and was totally blown away by the battery life it offered. Then I got the Z5P and even though the battery performance was nowhere near the Z2 I still got through an entire day with it without issues so I was happy.
Then came the Nougat update and all hell broke loose. I am literally getting just 6 hrs of battery life since the update. And even when it is idle it still drains battery like atleast 2 percent every hour.
Also the charging is very slow. I have a quick charger that used to take the battery life from 0 to 20 in atleast 10 - 15 mins. But now it actually drains the battery if I am using the phone while charging. And yes I have switched off the battery optimization option.
Any help will be appreciated even if it is just a confirmation that I am not the only one having this issue, which will at least let me know that it is not just my phone.
There must be some process with corrupted data after de update which is constantly executing something. I recommend you to do a full wipe, factory reset

I never fully trust OTA updates, because it keeps all the applications data and some special case of your current configuration maybe is not "converted" to the new version and causes the programs to behave weird. Have you looked at the battery usage? Maybe you find the process which a huge % of battery eaten, and just wiping that app data is enough

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I looked at the battery usage stats and no specific app is draining more than 2 percent of the battery over a charge. The only things that have taken most out of the battery are 1. The Screen On Time which is to expected and 2. The Idle Phone which takes around 15% consistently in every charge.

after updating to .372 , i learned from internet that this build has battery draining issues. ( i never faced any )
after updating to .376. , the phone is as steady stable as my other xperias (btw z5p is my 6th xperia )
now there is however a catch.
1. if you updated on OTA , this means the update of 1.2gb via ota only replaced certain files from .305 to make it .372 build (android 6 to 7) --- such OTA updates USUALLY ends up having problems (in general) with battery draining issues. Such problems i personally faced during updating from honeycomb to ics. - in short whenever update is available; always install FRESH
2. if your bootloader is locked then use xperia companion to install fresh after wiping all data. (makebackups)
3. if your phone is not rooted then try disabling all un necessary apps under Apps section.
----
Trivia
You cannot compare Z5p with predecessors like Z3/Z2/Z1 and Z since
1. they were always smaller in screen size / resolution and were not 4k
2. They stops at Android 5 / 6 as their last builds and battery life was awesome w.r.t consumption

however some of friends on XDA agrees that .305 (android 6.0.1) (came out dec2016) is the BEST build ever for z5p. addressed all battery issues and it was the final build for z5p on android 6.0.1
even i am thinking to degrade my phone due to ram consumption of N is very high!
this is why xzp has 4gb ram!
I need to know. If I updated my phone to .376 and it's having this lack of battery life, DO I HAVE TO SELL IT OR DISPOSE OF IT BECAUSE IT'S LITERALLY A LOST CAUSE NOW? (P.S. I immediately did a factory reset after the Nougat install completed.)
Because apparently if you updated to this build, then returned to the last Marshmallow build, THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED, and reloading nougat will only make things worse. And if you updated to .378, it not only does this not get fixed, it breaks your headphone jack to boot.
Please help. I am freaking out about this battery life. I lost 60 PERCENT IN 6 HOURS OF BASICALLY PODCASTS. ?

Maybe I'll try that. The best I was able to do was 21 hours with one bar LTE, 6 hour's sleep, and 3h40m screen on time with several hour's worth of Pocket Casts.
i confirm that on build .33 i lost my battery even on stamina mode one percent every 10 minuets over using wifi , it just keeps the battery when device is screen off -_- its horrible i didnt have this kind of problem with .253 and im wondering revert back to MM

Worst battery on oneui 2 beta

Hello XDA developers
I am very surprised to see that after installing one UI 2.0 the battery performance got the worst
I am getting 5 hours plus screen on time on one UI 2 beta while I got 7 hour plus screen on time on the one UI pie
The device care section is pretty disgusting it shows daily screen on time instead of the screen time from the last full charge
Pretty frustrated with this update

Well what do you expect from a BETA update? You should've just waited for the stable release.

It is call beta.
We almost need a sticky for everytime a beta is released.
Downloading a beta and then being surprised that it isnt running perfect means you probably shouldn't be on it.
It's like taking an experimental drug and being surprised at unforeseen side effects.
Edit: Then again it's not like anyone would read it.
I don't agree with you and I don't know how you measure it since is not really clear if the new battery usage graph changes something. In my personal daily usage I've been surprised some days, getting more than 6 hours of screen in 30 hours since plugged. Most was on wifi, radio signal influence a lot specially if it's weak.
Anyway I noticed some drains that are typical of samsung software, some days just for using spotify for 2 hours on the buds the phone would lose 30% while others 5% checking it some times

Yes, and battery life gets better after about the 3rd full charge so give it 4 days , and 3 over night charges , before it can be discussed. The latest beta is not bad , in terms of battery, and it is not better than Android 9. I am sure over time it will improve, and the stable release should be at least as good as pie.
Note from the moment the beta was flashed, statistics and predicted time to die where not given. Now that it does, it keeps saying that it will last less than a day (about 22-23 hours) and I have seen 1day+ prediction on pie , but over all it seem to be same SOT and same life of battery between charges, under same conditions and apps for my phone..
