I tried to use this version but the camera continued to crash. So i reverted back to stock 2.5.36

In my phone version 2.8.31 works flawlessly (completely stock android 8.1 OOS 5.1.5).

try older Gcam versions. I think 6.1.13 should work...

I've used 2 Pie Roms, Sky Dragon and Havoc and both have OOS Camera Support. Slow Motion works on OOS Cameras.

Like I said, I used 2 roms that support OOS Camera and LOS 15.1 isn't one of them!

Sky Dragon for Stability and Havoc for Features. Not sure about Casting but Volte works on both.

Casting with Miracast will not work on Pie (thank Google). Google Chromecast will work (again thank Google). Screen mirroring works atleast in SkyDragon.

Slow MO still doesn't

Sorry I'm not on SkyDragon OS right now to test it but it worked fine couple of weeks back when I used it. Just tried it on Havoc OS and it worked just fine.
Edit: Also which SkyDragon OS build are you on? latest?

I finally found a stable 6.1 gcam for our beloved whyred. My model is Chinese AI red. I am currently using Havoc OS 2.4 (Android 9) without any patch, root or modified kernel. All standard of rom itself.
The apk's author is marlin-ku (https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-marlin-ku/)
Notice: You need camera2api enabled!
Recommendations:
Disable 4k video (use full hd)
HDR on the front camera DOES NOT WORK (but if you disable it, everything works)

You're right, Xiaomi should enable camera2api by default, on MIUI Pie it's just a value on build.prop, nothing more nothing less, it's awfull marketing
I have camera2api enabled but get only forced close.
I'm using MASIK 4.1 Miui pie. Front camera work fine for photos and videos. One bug is superzoom in front camera video with 60fps.
But finally we can use one GCAM TRUE Stable.

Very interesting. I have the latest version of Havoc OS 2.4, on my Chinese note 5 with stable firmware 10.3.4, with absolutely nothing else (root, patch camera, kernel) and this was the most stable version I've ever installed on my whyred. Everything works, minus HDR on the front camera and the 4k video. Everything else works perfectly here.
This is a custom Google Camera made for Mi 9 SE and Mi 9 CC based on Google Camera 7.3.020. It supports main, telephoto and wide-angle lenses as well as all Google Camera features.
Known issues:
Slow-mo not working on 710 or 845 Snapdragon devices

i got v7.3 to work lagfree, on miui 12 eu stable, the patch "com. qti. chi. override. so" is supposed to be copied to vendor/lib/hw..instead of system/vendor/lib/hw (actually this directory doesn't exist in miui 12 eu stable), if you are using twrp to copy the file, remember to mount vendor first

Go to Settings>Aux cameras and enable wide angle lens. Then there should be a button in the viewfinder to switch lenses.
