Do Not Disturb - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Just moved to my first Samsung phone and slowly getting to grips from how it differs from stock Android on my old Pixel 2XL
One thing I am struggling with is when I have a calendar entry set to to busy my Pixel would automatically switch on Do Not Disturb, I have tried to find this setting on my Note but can't see it anywhere.
Is this possible to do or do I need to install any app for this?

Not receiving notifications unless I wake screen in OnePlus 3 running Marshmallow

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on how I could disable the Android Marshmallow doze/deep sleep mode that is default on new devices to save battery. I have a OnePlus 3 and have made every effort to check that all my notifications for calendar, whatsapp, emailing, etc. are set to both vibrate and make a sound, disabled all battery optimization features for apps, tried using screenlock wake apps to avoid missing notifications, and more. However, I am still unable to get notifications for whatsapp, emails, calendar reminders and events once my screen goes to sleep or I lock then phone and it's idle (so after about 15-30 minutes of it sleeping), but calls and texts seem to come through fine (or at least I haven't noticed these being an issue as much). This is a HUGE inconvenience, as my main reason to have a smartphone is so I can check emails, calendar events and such right as I receive them, and not only when I wake up my screen (which then bombards me with all my previous missed notifications from hours before). I have a feeling this is an android 6.0 issue and not due to the OnePlus 3, because it's been reported in other sites and by people with phones also using either this OS or lollipop. My older Samsung galaxy S4 running kitkat never had these problems, and at this point I'm very keen on going back if I can't get my new phone (or this OS, as I predict) to notify me right away even when my screen is locked and phone asleep (I can't always remember to check it especially if I'm busy at work). I am willing to root the phone and change settings if that's an option, but I would please like to see if you guys have any other suggestions for allowing my phone to receive notifications right away even when in sleep mode/idle/dozing. Thank you for your time in advance. Oh last thing, I also posted this question in other forums because I am honestly quite desperate to find out what I can do to resolve this issue, so I'm sorry if that's an inconvenience...

Problem solved
Oneplus just released a new oxygen OS update which takes care of the notification issues. But to resolve this before this OTA came out I rooted and disabled the doze mode with dumpsys deviceidle. So all is good now!

Problem was NOT SOLVED with 3.2.1 OTA you still need to disable Doze in order to fix it.

Re-purposing an N7 as a "smart display"

With the announcement of google assistant "smart displays" at CES I thought well I have my N7 that I find myself using less and less (reading ebooks, some content consumption and some social media) maybe I can use the nexus as a smart display?
Short of flashing a Android Things OS (which as far as I know isn't an option) how can I set it up to best suit my needs?
So wiped and flashed stock 6.0.1 haven't rooted shouldn't need to and going to try and install as little as possible as it's showing it's age perfwise.
I've enabled Google Assistant and granted it isn't using far field microphones it'll be next to my bed so I can't see it being a huge issue.
One of the annoyances is that assistant defaults to a portrait mode while I'd like it to remain in landscape any ideas?
I'll have it plugged to power in with either a lockscreen showing just the bare necessities or dimming the display to as low as possible. May want to keep it as an always on display what's the burn in situation on the screen?
Audio will either be a 3.5mm to an old speaker or default audio out to a chromecast audio.
Also looking for any nice widgets that could be useful for a smart display?
Or any other ideas or thoughts?
thx
Maybe instead of having it plugged in all the time, just use wireless charging. Yes, it is slower, but it would make it easy to grab from a night stand. I have thought the same thing as you when I heard about the "smart displays". I'm on Lineage OS 14 with Nova Launcher. It runs really well for being 5 years old.
I bought the official dock from Asus in Amazon (Warehouse return). I use Daydream as a screensaver. Only negative so far is that it responds in portrait mode when giving it voice commands. It picks up my voice better than I thought it would. I wish there was a way to have the assistant screen up all the time with a screensaver when idle. Maybe there is and I just don't know about it.
I'm setting-up HADashboard (a Dashboard interface for Home-Assisant) on a couple of Nexus 7 2013's through the house, with the wireless charging in the wall and a removable printed wall mount. I'm currently searching for the right apps / rom. I'm currently running stock with WallPanel running.

HADashboard seems interesting. Can you expand on your WallPanel solution ? Perhaps a screenshot ?
I've been trying a few things to use as an always on home screen. I settled on using Android Auto as a nice clean interface. The issue I have is that the tablet is either rebooting after a short while or the app is crashing and is leaving the tablet on the home screen. I'm still using the latest stock image build from Google. It seems to be doing the same thing with most apps that I've used as either a Daydream screensaver or an always on app. Not sure if this is because of marshmallow or just that the tablet can't handle keeping an app running all day.
Now that there are real devices available, has anyone looked if it is possible to port or or use old tablet as smart display device like Jbl Link View etc?
Interested in this. Is there a way to convert a Nexus 7 (2013) to a Google Home View?
Ditto to finding this. Has anyone been able to perform a system dump?

Just got Oreo on Verizon, not too happy. Can I downgrade?

Hey guys,
I just got the update to Oreo on Verizon. So far I'm not liking it. I have several missing settings that I actually cannot find, specifically Ambient Display. I can find it in search, but when I click on it, it brings me to Display settings with the Advanced tab already selected but there is no setting for Ambient Display shown. I also can't figure out if its that or the Moto Display (where you approach to wake the device) but that setting is turned off. The phone is seriously waking it self up every couple seconds to show me a clock, the date and a blue ring showing the constantly draining battery percentage. I'm also very sad about the new emoji. I miss the blobby guys. Can I downgrade? how does someone do that anymore. Rooting seems very different now than in the pre 4.1 era I was used to on my previous phone. With my Moto Z Play, I haven't bothered to root or anything as it's worked right off the bat.
Thanks guys for your help.
First, this is a Moto z play or -02 forum, where what I think you have is a Droid or -01. So I may not be able to help much! - I have 8.0 where the ambient appears whenever the phone is touched or moved in any way. It only appears for about 3 seconds - i actually doubt this will have much effect on your battery, though if your phone is in constant motion , I suppose it could. The ambient display for me is a partial circle indicating % of battery charge, with %, time and date. I see no way to modify this. I suppose a custom ROM might change things but that would not be avail for the Droid as I know of no way to root it. I suppose you could always bug Verizon... Good luck with it!!! I generally like Oreo so far, but that is a problem with version updates - things change and we're pretty much stuck with it unless we can find and flash a different ROM...

Pixel 3 XL Screen Call outside US possible? Also 2 small questions

Hi guys,
I just got the Pixel 3 XL and the function I was the most excited about was the Screen Calling.
Now I knew when I bought the phone that it would only be available in the US - however I thought that the smart minds at XDA might figure out a way to activate it in the UK as well.
So now that some time has passed since the phone released I was wondering if anyone has figured out yet how to activate it?
I don't mind rooting the phone or similar but that feature is very important for me, so I would like to modify my Pixel 3 so it works in the UK
Further I have two smaller issues with the phone that I was wondering if you could help me with?
Firstly, when I change my wallpaper, for whatever reason the Pixel 3 changes it back to the standard wallpaper the next day automatically. Is there a way I can keep my wallpaper without the Pixel resetting it every day?
Secondly, is there a way to hide the home button and back button panel? Especially in apps and games it is quite annoying to have like a double chin and I don't think I need it with the new gesture controls.
Thank you guys in advance!

Question New Pixel 6 pro delayed notifications, halp!

Ok so i just got a 6 pro. Rooted day 1 before activation. Running Android 12. Seemed to work fine for a few days. Seemed.... So now my notifications are delayed or not coming thru at all unless i restart. My old phone was a Samsung Note 8 rooted as well. I wanted to get away from Samsung even though I loved the UI because my friend has a pixel 4 XL. Abd i loved how his phone had a better signal than mine, sane carrier and next to each other. Ive googled and watched yt vids to fix this issue. Nothing helps. It will work for 5 mins or 5 hrs then just stop. Even txt wont come thru on Signal. If i restart it will seeming work again. I rarely ever had to restart my Note 8. At this point i just want my brand new phone to work. Since the initial root i havent factory reset or wiped and reinstalled the root. Not sure what i should do first. Also not sure if going to 13 would fix this. Some stuff i read says yes and some stuff says 13 is buggy too. I wish i could put Android 11 on this phone and call it a day. Can anyone please help me? I dont wanna return my new phone.
TL;DR
Android 12 rooted notifications delayed and not working. Halp pls!!!!!
Hi. Have you tried setting any of the particular apps for which you're having trouble with timely notifications to not being restricted from background usage? Long press the app icon / App info / Battery / Unrestricted. In App Info, you can disable "Pause app activity if unused" for those particular apps.
My wife and I have a lot less trouble with timely notifications on our Pixel phones than we did on our two Galaxy Note 10+ phones.
Yes. I've done all of that. I've set battery to unrestricted. Every tip I could Google. And it's still intermittent. It's driving me nuts. I just need this phone to work.

Here's a Reddit thread about a similar issue (seems to be some Google programming error with no fix):
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/t2cuuu
I've always had notification issues (late, none) since doze was first introduced. Every phone I've had I've had to run the following command to get notifications:
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
The issue is, this command (which disables doze) has to be run each time the phone is rebooted. I use Tasker to run this script on my rooted P6P on each reboot (you can also use SManager). On my work phone (a non-rooted S10+) I have to open a command prompt and type the command.
I'm not an Android programmer or expert, but running this command has always worked for me. I realize disabling battery optimization and stuff is supposed to do the same thing, but that has been inconsistent, and some of my phones didn't provide the ability to change battery options for some apps.
Also, look for any rogue Magisk modules you have installed.
Good luck.
Hey, have you found the help that you needed ?
I too was having delayed notifications and could not for the life of me figure it out. Turns out it was NordVPN causing the issue. I changed the protocol from "Recommended" (assume that's NordLynx) to "OpenVPN (TCP)" and it fixed it right away!
