I updated my Google Edition Pixel 3XL to 10 two nights ago. Now today, I received a notification that an update failed to install.
I am thrown off because I turned off updates, but regardless of that, if I just updated to 10 two nights ago, what is with this update wanting to install in my device?
I am on vzw OG unlimited data plan, the build # of my currently installed Android version 10 is: QP1A.190711.020.C3. Anyone can enlighten me on this?
Thanks in advance
You're on andriod 10. But you're on the sept, 2019 update. So your phone is probably trying to update to a more current version.

If your bootloader is unlockable, look at this Guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/guide-pixel-3-xl-android-10-0-q-t3964117
Prerequisites: Factory Images
Then do #4 'keep data' to install the latest Factory image. Do #9 to root.
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it
I have since updated my device again. I used the "OTA" method to do the update. All-in-all it took about 15 minutes or so. Now the security patch level is: October 5, 2019. I suspect that it will tell me sooner or later that there is an even newer update. Hmmm...
I'm still waiting in the even newer updates to come down to my device. I do like the fact though that I can install an ota with magisk and don't have to connect to a computer.
I just wish I could speed up the updates using that method too. I was thinking that it would install the latest/greatest the first time out of the gate. Lol

Hey, just bought brand new 5x and I'm still on 6.0 with oct 1sr 2015 security patch. When I go to system updates it says I'm up to date. Am not getting OTA update automatically. Im on Telenor in Serbia. Should I wait or do I have to root and flash the latest update manually?
Btw, looove the handset and OS is lagfree, no issues, but still wonder why I'm not getting the latest update. No root, LB, brand new OTB device.

How do I update manually? Any recommended guides? I dont feel the need to flash a custom rom, I like what google is doing with android as is for now. Just want the lates and greatest, thats why I bought a nexus.
Also would like to know the reason why I am I not getting updates automatucally. I have the international H791 model. Firmware version MDA89E. Its two OTAs outdated.
Quick thought: Shut down, remove SIM, Start the device, Connect to Wifi, Check for updates.
Just unboxed a brand new 5X 10 minutes ago and have the exact same problem...
Tried to reboot and added a Google account, charged the battery to 100% but the thing still won't find a new system version...

Tried that too. I activated the device without the SIM and used it that way yesterday, inserted it just today.
Than I guess you can't do anything else unless you unlock the bootloader. At this point you can fastboot \system \boot \radio \vendor from the latest factory image or you can sideload ota zip through stock recovey.
I am having the same issue, my new nexus 5x is on 6.0 MDB08L, securiry patch level: November 1, 2015.
When I check for updates it says that my device is up to date...
The OTA will show up eventually. Or update manually.
Same thing for me in Canada. I just ended up enrolling in the Android Beta to get N preview.
Issue solved!
I got a ton of OTAs overnight while device was charging. I think it was 5 OTAs one by one that had to be installed separately, now I am on the latest April security patch and loving my nexus even more. No noticable performance difference, smooth and snappy and now up to date. So I guess updates will come you just have to be patient so google can activate them for your device. In my case it was 2 days since activation.

:good:
I have a quick question for those that are a lot smarter than I.
Still nothing for me on the 8.1.0 OTA December update. I have an unlocked Pixel 2 XL and an unlocked OG Pixel XL. I was running the Beta on my OG Pixel and I unenrolled from the Beta and factory reset. Waited 24 hours for a stable version of Android Oreo.... still nothing and it is still showing that I'm on 8.1.0 with the November security patch. Also, when I reset my phone or power back on it's still showing that my phone is on the Beta. I have no idea what's going on with it.
Would any of you guys/gals have any other suggestions? I'm not comfortable with flashing or anything like that since I've never done it before. Should I just wait patiently because it will come eventually?
Thanks.

I got my Dec 5th patch update last night, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time for you.. If you're not comfortable flashing, than I would say just wait it out. It shouldn't be long.
What the poster above me said, just wait you will eventually get it. They roll it out in stages so they don't overload the servers. We all like instant gratification, which is why a lot of people flash it when it is released, but you will get it.

When you unenroll, it will send you an OTA. Did you get that OTA? You mentioned you factory reset, but that's not what actually takes you off of the beta.

No, I did not get an OTA. I've checked on the site and it says that my device is no longer enrolled, however when I restart my phone (from a powered off standpoint) it still says I'm enrolled in the Beta. I check for an update and it says I'm up to date, yet it's running 8.1.0 with the November 5th security patch.
Sorry for so many questions, but I just thought I might be missing something. It's really not that big a deal to me because I know it will come eventually, but I just wondered why it was doing that. I reached out to Google via the chat and they said wait 24 hours for a stable version however it's been well over 24 hours and still nothing. I've unenrolled the device from previous beta's and have never had to wait. The OTA would immediately show up and I was good to go.
Is it safe to take the actual ota while rooted/TWRP/custom kernel? Will it just replace the boot partition or will it fail? I'm thinking I should do a flash all with the -w removed of the 8.1 instead of letting it go the ota. I just got the notification for it.

Well, I had mentioned in the original post that I'm not extremely comfortable doing that so I may just wait it out.
I have a question in regards to getting the OTA updates.
I'm in Australia and got my pixel 2 xl on a plan with Telstra as they are the exclusive carrier here. But I use a Vodafone sim in the phone.
Will this cause me to not get the OTA updates?
My 6X just received an OTA. The security patch level went from March 1st to Oct 5th. The EMUI version was updasted to 5.0.1. So far so good, I haven't used it much.

Factory reset..
Wow. Two system updates in the last 10 days. Just updated BLN-L24C567 to B366 from B365. Security patch is Nov. 6.
I guess this makes Huawei/Honor phones a lot better than Lenovo Moto phones. Once I recommended my father to buy a (Lenovo) Moto X Pure. The phone received updates something twice a year (!), and its Nougat update came 13 months (!) after the official Nougat release, and maybe 10 months after when Lenovo promised this update would be available. Huawei has a better track record than Lenovo IMHO.
13 months is a lot, and yes, Huawei/Honor has been better in the recent years when it comes to updates
Indeed. They give update if want to else simply discard. btw see what Apple was doing with regular updates.. they admitted and was a let down for many (but accepting it needs some real guts for a brand like Apple)
Who knows other OEMs who gives regular updates are doing similar things
edit: scratch that
Everyone, I have a locked Verizon P2XL running Android P DP3. I've been on the DP train since it went live after I/O and I've had so few problems it's actually surprised me. But that all changed on Wednesday. I have been using Google Pay with no problems up until Wednesday night when I took my wife to Starbucks for a coffee and a chat. I was unable to pay for our products using Google Pay. Weird but okay, I just used my debit card and moved along. When I got home I checked into it. I saw that my device is listed as uncertified in Google Play Store app settings. This was not the case previously. I rebooted into the bootloader and my device states that it is indeed locked. I've already done 2 factory resets, this didn't fix or change anything except that now I have had to sideload Netflix as it won't install from the Play Store on an uncertified device. So that is problem #1, what could have caused this? Will it be fixed (best guesses please) when the DP4 OTA hits my phone? If not will the official release ROM for Android P correct this?
Problem #2 is that I can't get back to stock Android Oreo. I've tried doing it the official way by Opting Out on the DP webpage and taking the OTA. Installation fails with no indication as to why. I've also downloaded the latest official Oreo OTA and used adb sideload to install it. It also fails but using this method I actually get an error message stating that the OTA is older than the currently installed ROM so installation was aborted. I called Google about this, no help. But the support rep agreed with my current idea to try to rollback to Oreo when July's OTA is released as the timestamp will be newer than DP3 so Pixel downgrade protection will be circumvented. Or should be. Back to problem #1, will flashing the July Oreo OTA fix my device uncertified problem? I haven't had this phone very long so I'm disappointed with myself for effing around with the beta program before I really had a chance to use it (got the device in late April).
Thanks for any help.
Problem #1 has been fixed by following the advice of @Phazonclash here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/google-pay-issue-t3810129
Problem #2 remains but I'm less eager to revert to Oreo now that the first problem is fixed.
Glad you got it sorted! Anyway, dp4 will be here soon....
Same thing happened to me. DP 3 was running great then out of nowhere the Android Pay was disabled.
I used the ADB commands and reflashed the Oreo Image. Now everything is back to normal. I have read on several forums the same problem.
Looked like some sort of timing issues that inactivates the Android pay after a certain date anticipitating a new build?

Which model phone do you have specifically and which Oreo image did you use? As I said I have a Vzw P2XL and I tried to flash the June OTA for the P2XL and it was a no go. I'd love to hear how you managed to do what I failed so miserably at.

I have an unlocked Google version of the Pixel 2 XL. Download the image from the Google site. You can also download the Verizon version.

Anyone get the final official build of Android Q? Today, supposedly, is the day for the update to begin rolling out. Post here with your results!
Status: Running 10 now!
It's too early, its 7:40am in California now, I wouldn't expect it before 5pm...
If the update is released today, it is typically done between 9am and noon Pacific Time... I usually get it around 11am Central Time. That said, this is the "Monday" after a holiday in the US, so it could potentially be later in the day.
We will usually see the factory images appear first, and OTA updates available anywhere from a few minutes to as much as a few days later...
I take all this news of the update coming today with a grain of salt. Keep an eye on the Android Developer blog for more information: https://android-developers.googleblog.com

Full and ota images are posted on Android developers site, so ota should be there pretty soon...
Android images are available now, expect OTA's to happen soon... The full release announcement is available at https://android-developers.googleblog.com/
Have fun mashing the Check Update button.
EDIT: Oops, looks like @calinorg beat me to the punch on this one.
There are two Android 10 OTA files for the Pixel 3A XL. One ends in 19 and the other 20. How do you determine which one to download? Does it matter?

As there is only one hardware platform, you would want to use the latest one, in this case 20... Remember to use the OTA image though and not the "factory" one. The factory one will wipe your device clean, the OTA image will not.
OTA images are available here: https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Make sure you understand how they are installed using 'adb sideload' method.
FYI... If you chose to update via the OTA file using 'adb sideload' the first boot takes about 10 minutes. Don't panic and just let it do it's thing. Even once it's "up and working" it still takes a while, be patient. Several other things will be updated as well, like Play Store libraries. I also had several app updates available after the upgrade.
Whole process start to finish after downloading the OTA zip file was about 20 minutes.

Thanks again acejavelin for all the info. I have been flashing the OTA security updates for some time now. I'd rather sideload then have to wait for OTA. I noticed two files sometimes in the past with my Nexus phones. All the monthly security patches for the pixel 3a xl so far have just one download file. I was just wondering why Google would upload two?

OTA from Beta 6 is only 40.7MB. Guess there weren't many changes from the beta.
Anyone get the live caption feature working? I'm trying to figure out how to get it working
Do we have to be on the Magisk Canary channel to patch the boot.img file to retain root or is the Stable Channel good for Android 10?
Thanks
Pretty sure TWRP still isnt working on Android 10 so patched boot is the way to go. I suppose you could try sideloading magisk zip as well but I just used the patched boot option and it worked perfectly.
