What keyboard are you using? - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I have observed over 2 weeks that Gboard has low accuracy so I tried SwiftKey keyboard.........

Using Gboard without any problems so far. My only gripe is the gesture for back sometimes interfers with the slide from the side of the keyboard. Sometimes I go to slide from A to L only to have the back gesture activate.

I too had this problem but I think since my previous device's (Zuk Z2 Plus) screen width is low compared to 7T, I've to swipe through a larger area where in old device my thumb could reach all the edges without any hassle.

Yes I had this problem too, but after switching to floating Gboard I could easily type and use the gestures in both Gboard and phone.

I always use swiftkey because I have fat fingers.

Gboard but i still miss Swype.

Multi Feature Keyboards

I've been trying out 3rd party keyboards from the market on the N7 and, besides some of them being a little behind (buggy with JB), most of them come up short in one or more of these key areas...
1. Trace (aka swipe) input
2. Has directional keys to move the cursor around
3. Uses Google Voice Type for voice input (IE text appears-as-you-speak, not some built-in pre-ICS style wait-until-you're-finished thing)
This is basically the HTC trace input keyboard that I'm describing. There are a few that do 1, fewer still that add 2 and none that I know of (besides stock) that do 3. I was using Swiftkey originally (0), then on to TouchPal for awhile (1). Ultra Keyboard is currently the best (1, 2) and it appears to use the Google voice recognition but does not show input on the fly. On the plus side it's very configurable and seems to be bug free (so far) with JB.

I might be wrong for the tablet version since I am using the phone version of Swiftkey on my tablet and phone(only have my phone on hand at work atm), but if you press the "123" button then the "{&=" button it will bring up direction keys.
(Posted in error and Tapatalk won't let me delete it.)

This seems to work on Swiftkey 3 Tablet as well, so I stand corrected. Sorry. I guess what I should have said is directional keys that are always visible on the standard keyboard.

I believe thumb keyboard has directional keys always showing if you use the small nexus 7 layout
Also it has jellybean voice dictation included.

Just to follow up here. Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried a few others and have settled on Ultra Keyboard. Besides the live dicitation, it does everything. Very configurable, and prompt responses from the dev to questions. Go Keyboard also does everything besides live dicitation, unfortunately it's showing (right now) as incompatible on the market.
I use the stock keyboard when i need to type normally. But my standard keyboard is the ics themed Swype beta by djdarknight. Super easy and lightning fast to use with a stylus. Give it a try if you're still looking for a trace type input. The voice typing feature is broken I think but you can make the arrows show up by holding 123.

Best on screen keyboard?

Love my note. Typing this on our. But I want a keyboard that I can type continously on.
Which keyboard do you prefer and why?

I like SwiftKey.
I used the trial of SwiftKey for a bit and enjoyed it enough to buy it. I like to make the keyboard quite small and undock it and use my finger or the spen to swype my words out. I can get pretty quick sometimes. The stock one wasn't too bad, if I remember correctly, but while using the small, undocked version there was an annoying lag when summoning it after selecting a text field. Another I liked was the Multiling keyboard. I think that's what it was called.
Hands down Swift key. I can type with my eyes closed on this. Tablet version works great.

I own three keyboards, Swiftkey, Thumb and Swype.
On the Note, I use Swiftkey in split mode (landscape). It works good for me. Not perfect, but good.
It's predictions are very good. But in split landscape mode, it only offers two suggestions at any given time even with all the space available. It would be perfect if it allowed a bit more customization and handled incorrect predictions better. The keyboard on the Palm Pre and the HP Touchpad had better correction feature where if you hit backspace, it would revert back to the word you typed and not the prediction. Thumb keyboard also does that, but Swiftkey does not. I don't understand why since it is so logical. Swiftkey has a number of sizing options and I find it to be the best fit on the Note of all the ones I've tried.
Thumb allows for a lot of customization down to customizing the alternate keys on long presses and long press timing. Swiftkey allows for customization fo long press timing, but not the long press alternate keys. With all the space available in split landscape mode, Swiftkey allows you to place a numerical keypad in the center, but stupidly, not cursor keys, even with all the space. It has cursor keys on the number/symbol page, but it could easily fit them on the main page in split landscape mode. Thumb allows many other keys in what would be the otherwise empty space in split mode, including cursor keys. Also, none allow for a dedicated 5th numerical row like the Palm Pre and HP Touchpad layout, although the Thumb keyboard does allow for a 5th row of custom keys where you could make them numbers, I suppose. But I find the predictions on Thumb to be inferior to Swiftkey by a long shot and none of the themes, sizing and layouts really work for me as well as Swiftkey.
The Swype keyboard just doesn't work well in Landscape mode. The keys are too small and there is no provision for resizing them. So that's just out as an option.
You're best off downloading the free versions and toying around to see what you prefer. But I would try Swiftkey and maybe Thumb.
Multiling O keyboard.

I started using SwiftKey in mini mode undocked. It goes under my right thumb and I swype one hand like a phone. Not perfect but it works

I like Flseky. It is elegant and after you get used to type with it, It is really Fast.

SlideIt and SwiftKey.

I have Kii on all my device. I like the fact that it can be configured different for portrait and landscape. Like in landscape I don't like the keyboard the full width, I type with one finger so full width is a stretch. I put a 25% margin on the left & 5% on the right. Can have a number row on top or nav arrows on the bottom. Will also do swipe. The predictions aren't as good as Swiftkey but still okay. Themes, lots of configuration, split for thumb typing, themes. You can try the premium features for hour then they reset.

[Q] Home button sensitivity -> spacebar :(

Is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of the home button?
I cant compose a single email without accidentally hitting the damn thing, which is getting very frustrating.
I'm in the same boat... without the swipe capability, typing would be tough...I might reroute the home action to a different key.

Urgh! I might try a swipe keyboard and see if that helps, because this is driving me nuts.
Previous phones had physical home buttons, so never had the problem before.
I have resorted to typing in landscape mode, but that cuts off the message thread in email/sms/whatsapp, and the labels in most web forms.
I am suprised there are not more people reporting this issue.

Having even come from phones with soft home keys, this is an issue for me, as well...You're not alone :good:
If space bar and home button are too close together, possibly adjusting keyboard height may help. Go to Apps/Settings/Language & Input/ASUS Keyboard/Preferences/Adjust keyboard height. Also ASUS Keyboard has a feature like swype. To do this just enable 'trace input' in the same path as above.

Setting the keyboard height to the higher setting helped a little. Still definitely an issue. Basically my only issue with this fone... I've KIND OF gotten used to it, but it still happens daily.. just not as bad as before..

I rarely run into this problem using the Google keyboard since there is a row of quarter inch of space between the bottom edge of the space bar and home key.

Oh thank { deity }!
Yes that makes all the difference.
Adjusting the ASUS keyboard height may well have the same effect, but i'll stick with Google Keyboard for now.
It annoyed me and I adjusted SwiftKey height and now no issue.

Haha, I'm just using an Xposed module to remap the homekey to a double-tap gesture. I really like the stock keyboard.

How did you do that? Care to share? The lack of a physical home key and hitting home by mistake while typing is the thing stopping me from buying this phone. I have the same problem on my Asus Fonepad 7
If you have xposed, activating the soft nav keys (via GravityboxLP) is a good way to avoid this frustrating problem. You can also set expanded desktop mode so that you can then hide the soft keys at will.
There was also a flashable zip to enable softkeys in the Themes & Apps Section

Use swiftkey with arrow keys enabled

Question Remap soft keys without root?

Hello!
I received my Google 6 Pro yesterday and everything seems to work - lucky. Even the fingerprint sensor works quite well, significantly better than on my Xaomi Mi Note 10 Pro before - despite the protective film.
But what really bothers me: How should I reach the back key with my right thumb? Gesture control is nothing for me. So I would have to remap the soft keys: Last apps left, Home in the middle and back on the right. However, this doesn't seem to work that easily since Android 10.
Is there a solution?
Thanks very much
I used the Fabricated Overlays app to hide the NavBar then used Fluid Navigation Gestures to get swipe up from the bottom right to go back, middle to go home, and left for recents. It's very similar to the Samsung gestures and gives you the extra screen real estate.

I recommend "edge gestures"
I swipe down on the sides to return to home screen and swipe up for recents. However, you can customize the gestures to your liking. For example I have touch and hold on the edge to drop down the notification window. I have a large hand and using the stock gestures is frustrating.

Question Old Gestures?

I recently upgraded to a op9 pro from a op6, I love everything about this phone besides the new gestures. I'm used to swiping from the bottom left or right to go back and bottom middle for home/recents. It's now swipe from the sides to go back and I figured I'd get used to it but the amount of times I accidentally trigger it or try to trigger the gesture and don't infuriates me lmao. Any apps or setting to change it back to the old oxygen/android gestures? Thanks in advance!
it's easier to get used to the new gestures.
You're not going to buy old, older, older phones, so old gestures will be useless.

You are not the first dude.
Do a little search, there are already threads about this.
Substratum Lite, Nonavbar.apk and Fluid Gestures...

yes, with gestures it is very convenient to use the side menu in Telegram or stock file manager, goodluck
gestures are terribly inconvenient, the last convenient gestures, these are two buttons, but they cannot be on at 12 oxygen
Unfortunately you can't use One handed Operation plus. It's very useful on a curved screen.
In the link above they claim there's a similar app, Edge Gestures. I haven't sampled it.
UI is everything. So anything less than optimum for the individual with the UI really screws up the usability of the device. Samsung is keenly aware of this and goes to great lengths to achieve it.
Google, less so with their absurd one size fits all global mentality.
Personally I like virtual physical buttons. I use gesture navigation occasionally to back out of poorly written software where the virtual buttons are disabled saving me a reboot.
