No option to add local ringtone?? - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I purchased Redmi Note 8 a couple of days back and have been trying to set a ringtone from my old phone. Not sure what is wrong but when I go to "Sound and Vibration" option and select Ringtones option, it doesn't provide an option to choose a local ringtone (see the 1st screen cap below.) It only shows the ringtones available by default. I downloaded one but couldn't find a way to set it as a ringtone (neither from the Music app or File manager)

When I am connected to internet, it directly shows me options from internet. This is very frustrating for me and I would appreciate any help. Below are the version details.

Go to all ringtones then my page then ringtones and click on + to add from local storage. Then apply.

Thank you

I had the same problem, but I had uninstalled the Xiaomi file manager and not yet installed a replacement. So there was no option to browse to the Ringtones folder. After I installed Total Commander, everything worked. Obviously, then, the ringtone folder is accessed bu settings via the installed file manager app(s).
The actual option is "Choose local ringtone".

Your *.exe application seems like saved under storage card. That's fine because it will eventually save up your main memory.
Try this:
1. Create a shortcut for the desired application.
2. Save the shortcut into Windows/Start Menu/Programs.
It worked for me as I created lots of application which saved under the storage card (you can save them all in one folder maybe called Program files).
With Resco Explorer tap on the desired exe and select "Send to Start Menu as Shortcut" or something like that . Then it will be available for HTC Launcher.
THanks a lot!! I'll try this out when i get home and back to my beloved artemis.
again, thank you dellkia and freco
just to let you know, it worked.
thanks
Glad to hear that!

moving icons and folders

Hi, is there an app you can run on your pc in active sync mode where you can change you start menu screen folder placements, icons and folder contained item shortcuts. Alternatively something you can run on your phone without reg hacking.
If not there should be, would be a really nice little app for that extra ROM polishing.
I ask as I havent yet found a ROM with a start screen I have been happy with, most are untidy and there also seems to be a lot of icon / folder duplication.
Well, you do all that from the file explorer. Just go to Windows\Start Menu, and you can arrange the icons in any way you want. Move them from folder to folder. Also, re-arranging the icons is possible when you press and hold on the icon, and it will allow you to put it anywhere you want.
I'm hoping that's what you were looking for.
That must have sounded like a pretty silly question, however up until now I have never been able to get into the windows folder via active sync, it always froze. I can with this rom
I also have a utility for this, particular creating and moving icons in the start menu from one folder to another:

To download:

}
Use total commander. Then, go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and move/rename your shorcut anywhere you want. You can make folder too.

How to solve the The Sims 3 texture bug.

I don't know if anyone here have already posted it, if so please delete this thread.
If not, read what's following.
Here is a little trick I found on BadaDownload (which goes all the credits), and it consists in replacing a particular file.
First of all you must have a Samsung Wave GT-S8500/8530
You also must have an External Memory
And.. you must have The Sims 3 installed on the External Memory.
Now click the following link and download the file res.dz (25.1MB approximately): http://bit.ly/wxCMLX
When your download is complete take your Wave in your hand and select: Menù -> Settings -> Connectivity -> USB Connection -> Mass Storage
and connect your Wave to your PC.
Open the External Memory and follow this path: \Others\[email protected]@[email protected]@__\n4166zq8ri\Data
Inside this folder you'll fine a file named res.dz (about 21MB). Just replace this file with the one downloaded before.
All done!
Disconnect your Wave and play The Sims 3 to see what's changed.
Here's a little suggestion

Thanks it works perfectly for me.
Thanks. Excellent work.

[HOW TO] Display Caller Location while calling/receiving calls any KK ROM Huawei P6

YOU MUST HAVE ROOTED PHONE
Here are the steps you need to follow in order to
Display caller location (country, city) in your language and also how many times phone rang on missed call:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
1. Download cust.zip from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz8SS-OCcRXmVldXTUp5QlJSUnM/edit?usp=sharing
2. Extract content of cust.zip to your PC.
3. Copy extracted folder (cust) to SD card in phone. Leave PC and go to phone.
4. In phone, with Root explorer or root browser (or other) copy and replace cust (or content of cust) from SD to root --> cust (make you sure to have right permissions)
5. Go to root --> system --> build.prop and modify ro.product.locale.region to CN (ro.product.locale.region=CN) and save.
6. Restart your phone.
7. After reboot, go to phone settings--->manage apps-->all-->contacts and click on clear data and then on force stop.
Try to make a call and under number you will see caller location (city, country). Try to call your phone but don't answer and you will see how many time phone rang on missed call.
If you change language from phone settings, just repeat step 7.
That's all.

[Q] HOW: control what app to open certain file types

Background: Carbonite Mobile only allows files saved/downloaded to device to be accessed via their app / saved files option.
Problem: I have saved MP3 audio books to my device.* When I click on one, I am only presented with 2 app choices: Google Music & VLC.
"Smart Audiobook Player" is not an option:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ak.alizandro.smartaudiobookplayer
See attached screen shots.
This is a problem because "Smart Audiobook Player" has features specific to listening to audiobooks (saving playback position within an MP3) that other apps don't have.
I assume that there is something that determines which apps are associated with which file types.
On a rooted device, can this be changed?
Is there some piece of metadata in the MP3 that will identify it as an audiobook vs a music file?
NOTE: I looked in the 'reset default apps' menu in Settings > Apps ..
Pls see attached screen shots.
Thanks!
