Hi,
I have a question regarding DEX...
My Note 10+, Windows 10, DEX and samsung USB driver are up tp date. Everytime i connect, DEX launches on my PC, i get the notification in my phone that DEX is running. However, in my pc, DEX will just shut down immediately after connected. This had happened since i received the phone after it was launched in my country. Initially DEX was able to run, occasionally. All i need to do is to restart my PC, and DEX will be able to connect. However, after the 2nd phone update, I'm unable to use DEX anymore. I used the original samsung cable and a few other cables to connect to PC, USB C to USB 2 type, tried them on all available ports in my PC.
Additional Steps other than updating phone and DEX that i had taken to try to resolve the issue:
1. Clear phone cache
2. Restart pc and phone
3. Change cable
4. Google (unable to find similar issue)
5. Search through samsung FAQ.
6. Searched in this forum.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

Dex was working for me ever since i got my Note 10 +
months back (launch dateAug / October ..? ) with my Lenovo laptop.
However a few day back, i got a notification to update Dex.
(I have done a few Dex updates.) No issues.
Done the update and now basically have the same issues as you.
Launch Dex.... does not launch..
Notifications on my phone Dex running...
Bottom line,
I'm sure it has to be a Dex bug..... software .!
I did not even attempt to investigate, as all Dex was working 100.%
Just waiting for the next Dex update.
My phone companion which was always buggy, is now working fine.
Good luck

Just an update , to my post above .
I again , downloaded the "Dex exe "from the official Samsung site .
https://www.samsung.com/za/apps/samsung-dex/
Then "ran/launched " the exe , that then prompted me to completely ,uninstalled Dex on my laptop .
After uninstall ,i again ran the exe to install .
I did not have to install anything else eg ..drivers again .
Dex is now working ( launching ) ) on my laptop .!
Secondly/alternatively ,
have you connected you phone ,to just a capable tv /monitor and launched Dex this alternative way , is " that method" working , for you ...??
Good luck .
I'll try your method and report back.
As for 2nd method, i had only tried to connect to the usb hub that came with my monitor (and of course the usual usb ports on the motherboard ). So far it's a no go.
Thanks for the suggestions and hope it will work.
Much love!

Some additional questions, Maybe it can help...?
Does Dex work, if you connect with cable to only a eg tv screen.?
I just tested my device,
connected my device with HDMI/USB C to a tv screen and working fine..?
Is your pc /laptop, anti-virus may not killing Dex..?
Or your Note 10 device anti virus killing it ....
if you have any installed on device.?
Have you maybe disabled any apps eg with Package Disabler etc and now hav a knock on effect.?
Can you check with someone near you or local forums
to see if Dex is working for them.?( If they have any issues.)
Is Dex not maybe blocked by service provider.?
If Dex shuts down, does it pop up any "toast texts"? before shutting down?
If it does install a any "Toast " app form Play store
eg "Toast Source" app works fine for me. to "catch"
the toast popup, so that you can read reason for shutting down.
Question is according to you,
Dex starts, but is killed by either
the Device System or a 3rd party app?
Yes "something" eg app, anti virus etc is killing Dex,
as you are able to install Dex fine etc...... until launching Dex.!
Then Dex gets killed by.....?
Look for the culprit /app thats killing Dex..!
I can imagine this must be very frustrating for you !
Good luck
I've had the same issue for a every now and then. The fastest and easiest way I found to fix this is to pull the shortcuts and notification down There should be a small notification "Android System" USB for file transfer. tap this and change the USB mode to something else and then change it back to file transfer. This should allow Dex to see the phone or the phone see the PC again. Hope this helps!
Hello,
Can you try to update the Dex app with aptoide ?
Do you use CCSWE and you deactivated a service related to Dex ?
I had similar issue, it doesnt work if Samsung Keyboard is disabled

You may have to turn off "Link to windows" on your phone first.
I got the Samsung Note 10+.
i have been trying to troubleshoot this same problem for the longest time, where i connect my phone from usb-c to my pc, press start now on phone and samsung dex will just close immediately.
finally today i went to the my phone setting, searched for "dex" and saw "Samsung DeX" under "Advanced features".
This is my first time going into "Advanced features" and I noticed many settings were turn off here.
So i turn on "Samsung DeX" and it seemed to have worked!!! I press start now and the connection went ahead to my pc and samsung dex started loading with the UI. I have not seen this app for a long time.
Now the question on why is it turn off by default? I don't know. I was able to connect to samsung dex on pc without problems.
i tried again and it didn't work! so i had to trial and error again. i can't do the normal unplug and re-plug in usb and press start now because samsung dex will exit immediately like before.
I had to plug in usb and then press the Samsung DeX to turn it on in my settings and it worked again. I don't know why it has to be this way.
I also went ahead and turn on Link to Windows, Call & text on other devices, Continue apps on other devices as well. Just because I want to use all these features when I connect my phone to pc.
hope this helps anyone with similar situation

I have no option for usb data transfer. Just MTP and PTP. When trying to drag and drop I get "Calculating the time required to copy the files". It copies nothing.
Airdroid, wifi explorer, kies doesnt transfer a damn thing.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!
Make sure that your drivers have been installed properly, first off (I think this is a big problem for a lot of ppl). And on the phone, in Settings > Storage > Menu > Computer Connection > "Media device (MTP)" is checked. (I also believe unchecking "USB Debugging" in Developer options can help, too).
If your drivers are set up, you should get a prompt (assuming you're on Windows 7) to "open folder and view files" and you'll get an Explorer window. Just drag/drop files on the device.
You can also use a WiFi FTP transfer app (I wanna say AirDroid is a popular one?). Some prefer it this way.
How can you tell if the drivers have been installed properly?
I can drag and drop one file at a time but nothing more

If you plug your phone in and don't get an error. And in device manager it should show up as "Galaxy Nexus" or "Samsung Galaxy Nexus".

Sounds like a possible issue with your setup. I just recently re-installed a fresh 32bit Windows 7 install on my MacBookPro, and without any driver tweaking or anything I was able to connect and drag/drop files back and forth.
I do have issues with my desktop and plan on wiping it.

MTP can be finnicky but there's no technical reason why it can't work just fine (as I said it works perfectly for me and others here).
Have you tried something like AirDroid (linked above)? Or if you're just sitting on WiFi you can always just upload to DropBox (Google Drive) and download on the phone/PC.
airdroid hasnt worked for me. I'm not positive but I think there are certain files that won't transfer via cloud.

Should be able to transfer anything. Don't see any restrictions to it.
Is your Kies properly Installed?
Hi,
If your Samsung Kies was properly installed (means took quite time for installing Driver for Samsung devices). Your phone should be detected once connected via USB cable. Some devices may have different situations. Exp. file transfer in SamsungGalaxyTab10.1 will not display exact time for file transfer Window. Once device connected via USB cable, and Your device's Name Pops Up in your window, means it's successful. Transfer shd not be problem.
Sometimes, Phone may not the cause, perhaps ur Pc/laptop might limited capability for Kies Support.
If your case is different, perhaps you can uninstalled and reinstalled it in control panel. Uninstalling Kies will not remove ur Phone's Driver data. Hope this Helps.
Sincerely,
whitefang

It's a known "issue" that people have really funky PC setups and have issues installing drivers. It's not inherently a technological problem with MTP or the Galaxy Nexus. As I said before, it's just a bit more finnicky than USB Mass Storage (UMS), which is used on most other phones.
I'll keep referring to the fact that on a bare Windows 7 install, with no previously installed drivers, I was able to plug in my Galaxy Nexus, auto-install drivers, and xfer files back/forth without a hiccup... that'll give you an idea for where the problem lies

ive got windows 7 ultimate, no issues, works as it should

Like martonikaj said, you should be able to transfer everything wirelessly. It's probably your fastest bet.
I either do that, or use ADB. While it's not as fast, I find it to be more stable than MTP (but that could be just me).
I assume download files as a zip and then open them on the pc? I assume all I would have to transfer would be titanium backup since it contains all app and system data. I know some of my questions might seem silly but i want to make sure i dont loose any data.
I've tried downloading the samsung drivers on 3 different pc with 3 different operating systems and cant get the drivers to properly load. I'm a little upset with Samsung at the moment. I never had a problem wit HTC or Moto phones.
you can use Alt Mounter app on mac & windows
go to goole & search it
then download AltMounter.apk & install it to your phone
then download altmounter for windows & install it to your pc
after that run altmounter in your pc & also run altmounter in your phone
after that plug the usb cable . the phone storage shows up in a window
this is verys simple & i like it
you can use it if you have problems with MTP
I'll give it a shot, thanks!
Good Evening folks,
I'm posting here after spending the better part of 2 days trying to figure out why this doesn't work.
So, i have the following:
model: GT-N7100
Version: 4.1.1
Build: JRo03C - ALJ1
I run a PC with windows 7 and also have a laptop with windows 8.
Now, initially i only wanted to root my device to install an addblocker on it and get rid of some bloatware. so i went and got samsung note2 toolkit here on XDA. (also tried others)
but no matter how i tried the pc (nor laptop) would see the note 2. it would plug in, it would charge... but windows ignored it otherwise.
i have tried al 8 of my USB ports on the desktop, and all 3 on the laptop. none of them work
3 different USB cables.
re-booted more then times then i can count.
i have manually installed the samsung drivers.
i have tried installing the windows MTP Porting kit
all to no avail.
So before i can even START to root... i need it to to play nice with my machines... anyone have ANY suggestions on what the hell is going on here.

first of all I forgot to mention that this should've been posted in Q&A section
for the problem try the following steps. after each one of them try connecting again. keep net disconnected while you follow the steps.
if it starts working then stop other wise continue.
1)use a diff comp, but you already did that , use a different cable, you didn't mention it
2)try uninstalling drivers via programs and features.
3)try installing drivers - preferably via mskip's toolkit
if you have windows 7, then directly install it
if you have windows 8, then first disable driver signature enforcement via this guide's last question.
4)try re installing windows. if you don't wanna do that then
open device manager
in view -> show hidden devices
delete each one that says samsung, note ii or note 2, android, google, adb, gt-n7100, n7100
this will ensure that you truly remove drivers
follow step 3) after this.
Hope I helped
All the usual and helpful ideas have been listed and you should definitely work thru those to make sure you are not missing something obvious but critical. I also use Win8 (64) and all was well with my Note2 showing up as an MTP device and wll working then one day, seemingly spontaneously, it suddenly didnt! When I would plug my Note2 in, Windows would give me a USB error telling me it could nto recognise the device! To cut a long story short, I tried my wife's S2 and IT appered fine as an MTP device happily enough, so that ruled out the cable, the port and the computer/OS.
I then tried my Note2 on my laptop, and once again it came up as USB error, so the problem was following the DEVICE around....
After a lot of googling, I tried on thing that fixed it instantly:
On the phone, go into Settings, Security and delete all the "Device Administrators" which in my case was just my Email app. That did delete my email account from my phone (contacts, email etc) but didnt matter as phone is just a dumb client to the mail server so no loss of any real data.
Once removed, I then plugged phone in and BOOM! MTP device happily appeared! I then went back in and just re-added my email account and re-activated Device Administrator when asked. Working ever since.
Not saying this is your problem, but it was an eye opener to me that the Device Administrator could 'lock out' the USB connection of the device....
Hope this helps.

I would also recommend checking your Windows Update log - especially if you have it set to automatic updates. After I installed the drivers off of the Samsung website, Windows Update tried to "Update" my drivers to an older version (I do manual Windows Updates). The first time it asked, I let it, and my phone couldn't connect anymore. Once I stopped that silliness I stopped having problems.

I was having the same problem, but I was using a USB cord that I had from my old phone. Switched to the white one that came with my Note 2 and it started working.
Hello everybody,
I've a problem with my NOTE 2.
When I try to connect my NOTE 2 to my PC at work, the PC is not able to recognize it.
I think it's due to the MTP protocole.
I know that with my SGS1, it works.
Do you think that there is a possibilitie to install an app in order to transform the phone in USB Storage as an standard USB Stick? Or a program made by a developper.
It will be very helpfull for me if you find a solution.
If you want more informations, ask me.

You need to start your "windows Installer" service before connecting your device
How to:
Make sure Windows is set to auto-update
connect your device with USB
From Device manager(right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage") Uninstall the Drivers
disconnect your USB device
Go to PC->Control Panel->Adminstrative Tools->Services
Start your "windows Installer" service
Connect your device with USB
keep the device connected until windows show Device Install Succefully(it can take a while, up to 10 minutes)
It should work well after that.

Update March 13th 2016: SOLVED!
--------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone!
I come to you today with a very nagging situation, and I'm not being able to figure it out! All of the sudden, my phone stopped being detected when I tried to connect it vía USB to any PC.
I would post a screencap of Windows' error here. But I posted under 10 times so Forum's Policy doesn't allow me.
Already tried:
1) Connecting the phone to 5 different computers (running on windows 7 64 / 32 bit, windows 8.1 64 bit, windows 10 64bit)
2) Enabling and disabling "USB Debugging" before plugging the phone to each computer.
3) Uninstalling and reinstalling ADB / LG G4 drivers on every computer that the phone was connected to
4) Different USB cables from different phones (Stock, Samsung Galaxy S4, S5 and S6, Nexus 4 and a generic USB cable)
5) Connecting the phone while on Windows' "Safe Mode" (Windows 7 64bit )
6) Factory reset.
7) Letting my phone discharge completely, and charging it through USB.
8) I was adviced to find the "adbkey" file and delete it. Saddly I couldn't find it anywhere (Not in Windows nor the device)
9) Accessing the "Hidden Menu" by dialing "277634#*#" => Port Check Test => Enable Port Check test
Relevant info:
* LG G4 H815 [not sure if H815AR, H815P or H815T, but certainly not european. No official bootloader unlock ): ]
* Phone charges OK with stock charger and others.
* Just before this started happening, I used a Samsung's Galaxy A5 charger.
* No notification that indicates that the phone is connected. So I can't switch from MTP to PTP mode. Is there any way to do that other than when the phone is connected to a computer?
* No new apps were installed on the phone before this started happening
* I rooted my G4 a long time ago (3 months +) by flashing it with a rooted image.
* The same USB cables were used to connect other phones to any PC and worked OK.
* Not using and external SD memory card
* Last thing I did when I was able to connect my phone to my personal notebook: I transferred some videos and photos from my phone to my PC.
* My grammar and English writing skills suck
What I think it is:
* Bloody Android 5.1. I wish I could flash the phone. But I need a PC connection to do that... yikes.
* Samsung's Galaxy A5 charger that I used. According to this theory.
Any advice/suggestion/possible solution/encouragement will be very very much welcome! I'm going crazy already.
Thanks in advance for your time and attention.
Love from Argentina,
Ok. I just did a factory reset and the problem persists.
Go to users, select your user name and and click on .android folder. Delete adbkey.

Hi! thank you for your reply.
I'm afraid I don't know where that file is.
I've tried a windows search for "*adbkey*" without luck (hidden and system files are showing).
I also manually looked into "C:\Users\<Username>" and there's no ".android" folder.
Also looked into my phone (through "Wifi transfer" app) and there's no such file
More relevant info:
I just remembered, just before experiencing this problem I used my sisters' charger one day (Samsung Galaxy A5). Could it have messed with some Integrated Circuit inside my phone? I've read here in this forum, a Mexican user presented his theory about chargers messing up USB connectivity on android phones.
¿Does anyone have more info about this? I'm not able to flash my phone, since I could never unlock bootloader. And obviously I can't do it through my pc because it's not detecting the device.
solved it! I just added the solution on the main post, highlighted in green.
I just connected the phone and I was able to access normally.
but if my g4 not work what i can do_؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟
Just factory reset
I had the same problem in my lg g4 h815t. I just reset the phone and then my phone was detected by the pc .
Or just use http://tinyurl.com/adbiso

Hey, I am facing same issue but with nextbit robin after charging it with oneplus charger. I am not able to access the service menu. Should the phone be rooted for it ? It will be very helpful if you replied.
I have the same problem, but I already did all the things you did, but it still has the problem. Every single PC doesn't detect it, it only charges, what should I do? I have unrooted my Lollipop 5.1 and can't root or flash any rom anymore. Can someone help me?
Solution for my N910V Note 4
Device: (Note 4 rooted, 5.1.1).
I searched all over the place and tried everything to get my phone to connect to pc again.
What finally worked for me was using: Shortcut Master (Lite) app .
In app I searched "USB" within System Apps
Selected "USBSetting" (com.sec.usbsettings.USBSettings)
Launch > Selected AP > MTP + ADB > Reboot
My USB > PC working again.
When I connect my Note10+ to my Windows 7 pc, I don't get ANY acknowledgement a device is connected. No beep, popup.. nothing. I did install the Samsung USB drivers, but that's not the issue because there is absolutely no unrecognized devices in the device manager. NO reaction from the PC. Are there any windows services that need to be enabled? Because I do have minimal services enabled.
I can connect a thumb drive thru the same 6ft cable which is kind of old. But not the phone. Could the cable still be bad or not new enough, or short enough? Tried the rear ports also. I don't have any other cables at the moment.
USB debugging is enabled and the phone is set to Transfer Files. Restarted the phone and PC.
Just no beep or popup or anything when I connect the phone. However the phone does charge. The phone is only a month old. Maybe a bad phone port? Is the Note10 USB-C port generally kind of stiff when you first connect the supplied power cable? I never tried to connect it to the PC before.
Thanks.
Try another cable/port.
See if it shows in disk management, hit rescan drives.
Try reloading the drivers manually or automatically depending which you tried first.
If you have SmartSwitch loaded on the PC you should already have the drivers.
Closely review what you disabled and their dependencies!!!
Check Event Viewer for errors.
I have a PC running on W7, my 10+ pops up effortlessly. It could be the C port PCB but don't jump to that conclusion yet. Try a flash stick in it.
Thanks. I have to borrow one. The thumb drive works with the cable, but not the phone. Strange. Connect a thumb drive to the phone??
Going thru my services now. I should get a beep or something.... then I worry about drivers if need be. I scanned for new hardware in device mgr and expanded all trees anyway... nothing. Scanned drives in Disk Mgt... nothing.
If I go to the Samsung desk at BestBuy, will they help free of charge?
Connected thumb drive to phone THRU THE SAME CABLE... Notification says USB Storage Connected, and I can browse through those files.
How do you unmount the thumb drive.. just disconnect the device? EDIT: I got it... "Unmount" in Notif shade.
So the phone port should be good then? Thx.
All I want to do is some ADB commands to disable Doze and remove bloat.

I just pull it, the SD card I unmount first.
I don't think it's a port issue.
Try disabling ie turn off Developer options.
The issue seems to be on the PC side.
Services can have a lot of dependencies with far reaching consequences if disabled.
If in doubt renable, reboot, try again.
Something should be logged in Event Viewer when you try to connect.
Could be a driver issue.
On the 10+ you should get a popup asking if you wish to connect if not the 10+ isn't seeing the PC.
Try another PC if possible.

OK. Thanks. When I connect, I just get a small silent notif "Chaging connected device via USB" and when I click on it, it says: "USB Controlled by Connected Device" and then "Transferring Files Android / Auto" is greyed out. No popup asking if I wish to connect.
Nothing in Event Viewer. Cleared the Event Viewer, connected the USB, and refreshed the Even Viewer.. Nothing.

Never saw that on mine.
Clear the 10+'s system cache.
You disable Developer options?
Try enabling it again.
Hard a reboot (not factory reset!) on the 10+
A settings issue on the PC? Event Viewer, security.

Try the rest. Hard reboot simulates pulling the battery. Clear the system cache on the boot menu.
I wiped cache partition. nothing.
I should have described the silent notif better. When I connect the cable to the phone (even if not yet connected to PC) the silent notif says:
"Charging connected device via USB" and when I click on it, there's two menus with radio buttons.
First menu: "USB Controlled by:"
1) USB Controlled by Connected Device <--THIS ONE IS SELECTED
2) This Phone.
The second menu: "The USB is for:"
1) Transferring Files Android / Auto <--THIS ONE IS SELECTED but entire menu is greyed out. Controlled in dev. options
2) USB Tethering
3) MIDI
4) Transferring Images
5) Charging Phone only
Factory Unlocked Note 10+ Android 11
Borrowed a cable from my neighbor.. It worked. But it's one thing after another.
Does ADB tools require Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redist.
Keep getting error: "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing error" when I type adb devices
And to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redist, I need to install Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu and that will not install.
First time ever feeling the pain of still using Windows 7.

It's grayed out because of the Developer options think.
I'm using the "transfer files" option. I don't get those options, it just asks if I want to connect.
My 10+ is a stock AT&T variant running on Pie.
I haven't used ADB so not sure. If Event Viewer is showing it as missing... you probably need the library. Side by side errors used to be common on x64 machines, missing MS library.
Canon did that. The Developers already had it on their PCs and forgot to include it in the install bundle

Can't use ADB because I need to install one thing after another and I don't have the patience to sit here for hours.
Platform tools requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redist because I'm getting "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing error" when I type adb devices
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redist requires KB2999226 and that won't install either.
I'm going to see if I can brorrow a laptop with win 10.

W10 is a dud. W7 should work fine; it shouldn't need any of that to transfer files.
Android 11 may be the perp... I don't know, sorry.
SUCCESS! I used the 15 Seconds ADB Installer as describe here: https://www.droidthunder.com/adb-installer/ Worked like a charm.
The manual ADB platform tools did not work (api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing error) probably because I didn't keepup with my win 7 pro system updates. Always hated MS updates because when you reboot, there's other issues you didn't have before or there was more unessessary BS running in the background..
I know windows 10 is a dud. That's why I'm STILL on 7. It's poorly designed and not a true desktop OS. Thanks for all of your help. Wasted a whole day on this.
