I'm not sure if the version Moto put on of Nougat supports Apt-X or not, but it does support AAC up to 256kbps. Once Oreo comes out, it supports Apt-X HD as well as the awesome LDAC protocol natively. Not only that, but in Dev options, there's an entire section on Bluetooth streaming protocols and bitrate/sample rate settings. It's awesome!
Yeah! I can confirm that it supports on Oreo
Codec settings
Has anyone been able to get AptX HD setting in Bluetooth dev options to stay on? Sony WH-1000xm2 just reverts back to LDAC each time headphones are reconnected.
Yes it supports AptX. I don't have any devices that use AptXHD so I can't confirm that.

It doesn't actually work. In developer options the option won't save like it should. It seems something is preventing it from activating. Only AVRCP changes, all other options cannot be changed

The thing preventing it from activating is not having a device that uses it connected. As you can see from this screenshot it's active in the developer options too.

LDAC is Sony's own codec and as far as I've heard is superior to aptX HD in just about every way.

Hrm, could be because I am on DU and was told it's a known issue on stock so shrugged it off. I miss LDAC...

None of the settings on DU, AOSiP, and invictrix stick, even graphics settings, when switching the GPU render from OpenGL to Vulkan, it doesn't stick and games crash, I have to restart device to fix it.
Settings don't stick because the Bluetooth LDAC needs to be able to connect to multiple devices and negotiate the best possible connection to each device hence the last setting best effort adaptive bitrate is always toggled and you can't seem to change that. But as each new Bluetooth device connects check back in developer settings and you will see what is the current codec in use for the connected device.
So i ride a R1 and bought a Cardo Slimtalk bluetooth speaker system for my helmet, and one of the users in their forums suggested i switch the bluetooth audio codec, in dev options
So i go and change it from "Use system selection" which is usually "SBC" to APTx or LDAC and it switches back immediately, what gives? how can i take advantage of this?

The jabra seems to have aac, try that. Should work fine automatically, otherwise use the app if available on Android.
And if the dev settings won't stick, you can't force it otherwise. Some devices have apps which can be used for them and also to force things like that (Sony for example does this)

Got a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3's today. The headphones support SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, LDAC Bluetooth Codecs but according to the App its only ussing AptX. It looks like the Note 10+ should support LDAC which I'm told is one of the best. I can turn it on in the developer menu, but then it just seems to turn off and go back to AptX.
Any idea how to get it working?
Go to the bluetooth settings and then select the headphones and enable LDAC for the headphones

You're lucky yours stays on AptX. Mine switches back to SBC no matter what I do.
I've also got the Sony WH-1000XM3 and would be interested to know how to switch. The suggested method of selecting the headset only shows the Name, the option to unpair and use for "Calls" and "Audio" and nothing about LDAC.

So I did find out if I go to the gear icon for the paired WH-1000XM3, at the bottom it says Codecs and does list LDAC. It was off, so I turned it on and it seemed to stay. Not sure about AptX HD but I think LDAC is better anyways.

Exynos or Snapdragon?
I'm on Exynos and i dont see anything as such on the bluetooth setting.
Got it working finally....
1. Sony companion app, set Sound Quality Mode to Priority on Sound Quality.
2. Now you ll have the LDAC option enabled on your bluetooth settings for your paired headphone under calls and audio. Turn it on.
Now you ll have the developer options > bluetooth audio codec stick to LDAC.
Also interested if this is the same for Exynos processors.

Yes it is. It's an Android option so should be on all version.
Had it on my exynos note 9..and now my exynos note10+
Now I suggest you to try another tweak on developer settings: Bluetooth Audio LDAC Codec. Try to put it 990kbps. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a reliable Bluetooth connection and it "cracks" the sound sometimes. I'm still testing, buy seems pretty stable at 660kbps.

Same issue here. Poor quality connection between my Sony XM3s and my Note 10+ when using LDAC at the maximum bandwidth.

I have the WI-1000X's, found if you try any of the EQ settings in the app it forces you to SBC.
Also @A_DrunkTeddyBear thank you for the LDAC tip, got it enabled on mine now.

Does anybody know how to get the audio codecs to change from sbc to any other setting and have them stick?no matter what I do it reverts back to sbc.
The device say if you are using a bluetooth headset should support other codecs like aptx, LDAC etc.,
I use Sony XB series bluetooth headphone, the audio codec in developer options sticks to LDAC only if I choose the headphones connection for quality in the Sony app.....else by default it reverts to SBC.

It will revert to SBC when nothing is connected. It will switch as soon as you connect an audio device. When I connect my Bluedio Victory, it switches to APTX on it´s own. The same applies to my car (also APTX) and to Galaxy Buds+ which use the Samsung Scalable Codec.
There's a setting within Developer mode to switch which codec to use

It seems that the Harman/Kardon Onyx 3 does not support any other codec than SBC. The phone won´t let you change the codec and revert back to SBC if the speaker does not support it.
Well Thank you for that information I did not know that.
I have a pair of Sony WF100 XM4's on want to use the LDAC setting on the phone. I go to Dev options, but it's greyed out. Is there anyway I can resolve this? I've seen another thread which isn't the 6 Pro that says you have to reset your wireless settings or something similar. Do I have to do this?
I have exactly the same pair of headphones and have been wondering the same some time ago.
LDAC works 100%

what does Sony say about the issue?
LDAC works on the 6 Pro (I have different headphones and BT DACs, as do many others) but not Sony's.
have you tried deleting the headphones from BT settings, resetting the Sony's and re-pairing?
If "HD Audio" doesn't show up in the Bluetooth Device Details for the Sony headphone (where you see Contacts, Phone Calls and Media Audio), then it won't show up in developer options.

I have unpaired and repaired - makes no difference. HD Audio is selected in Dev options, but LDAC greyed out. I haven't contacted Sony about the issue yet, but will do some Googling to see if it's an issue with these earphones first before contacting them. I am not sure what your last paragraph means?

My LDAC headphones will work in 990 mode but only with the screen off, otherwise the sound skips. It works fine in 660 mode with the screen on. I've tried different fixes but nothing has worked. The only time LDAC is greyed out on my phone is when the headphones aren't on and connected.
I Googled it and found this:
https://www.sony-asia.com/electronics/support/articles/00264224
So followed that and it shows that LDAC is on so why doesn't it show in Dev options?

So you installed the app? On my headphones, not Sony, I needed their app to get LDAC to show....
I had the app previously because I had the XM3's. Its not obvious in the app until you see the instructions I posted. It's still greyed out in Dev options which I don't get.
You maybe need to enable quality mode in Sony headphones app. My xm3 working good. But only in adaptive ldac settings
I had Quality mode enabled even before and it was still grayed out. Went to Stable mode and back to Quality mode and its still grayed out.

So LDAC will show up in the bluetooth information for the device, for example: HD Audio: LDAC, but only if LDAC is enabled on the device through an app or natively (but its usually an app)
It looks like I got it working, but only in 660kbps mode. Go 990 and it skips all over the show. Also, every time I connect the headphones I have to change the setting to 660 in Dev options. Isn't there an option to save it to this setting for my Sony's because I can't seem to see it!
How or what did you do to make it work at least in 660 kbps ?

My P6P always defaulted to ”best effort”. Then I installed the Sony apps on my phone and selected high quality. Even though I don't have Sony earbuds, when I connect my LDAC earbuds it defaults to 990. This would be fine if 990 actually worked...
Is there any way to get it to default to 660?

I haven't found a way to do that. It would be nice if the update that's coming out in a few hours would fix the LDAC 990 problem but I'm not holding my breath.

Disable Wi-Fi it will fix stuttering. For me it runs smooth on 990 Xperia 1 III
LDAC works for me on the Sony WH-1000XM3 out of the box.
OH MY F* GOD. Disabling "Connect to 2 devices simultaneously" enabled LDAC. That's so dumb and someone should have said about that.
You can disable it in Sony Headphones app under System tab.

It's still broken, unfortunately. 990kbps has constant disconnects. Sort of defeats the purpose of the nigh bitrate codec. I wonder why google has such poor development with each of these updates.
