Please describe in detail the file you put a link to so that others won't have problems. I assume it is the boot.img patched with a specific magic version (which one?) of an 10.0.7 OOS ROM (which one?)

I had 10.0.6 rooted. Updated and lost root.
Downloaded the 10.0.7 patches image and booted it from fastboot (fastboot boot image.img), but when I go to install magisk from magisk manager I don't get the direct install option...

Have the same problem.
do this!!!!:
first you unistall magisk
reboot and install magisk canary apk
reboot in bootloader mode
install with ADB the image pre-patched
reboot and go to magisk and select preserve DM verity and keep encryption in advanced option
select install and push to recommend install
now the phone in rooted!

I found that I had to tick the preserve DM verity before fastboot booting the patched image.

Still nothing. I tried installing magisk before and after booting the patches img, but still no option to direct install.

im using a mi a2 lite,
so the problem is that twrp can't access /storage/emulated/..., when i open the folder, its completely empty, i've mounted everything, some people recommended to put the zip file to / but you need root to do that, and i'm trying to root my phone with magisk,
so it's kinda a catch 22 here, i can't root because i need to root to be able to move the zip file to root with magisk, some people suggested to use a usb otg, but i dont have any,
i also tried to install cwm recovery but there are no version of cwm for the mi a2 lite,
any help would be appriciated.

Nevermind, I did what Hoang told me, unlocked the boot loader, get the boot.img file from the stock rom on xiaomi's website, move it to my phone, open the magisk manager app, patch the boot.img, moved it to my PC, then go to fastboot mode and on the PC type "fastboot boot [drive-letter]:/path/to/the/patched_boot.img", then open the magisk manager app then click install(recommended) then reboot, install root checker and done!

In the instruction they also show how to update without removing Magisk, is that not works?
You can patch the image and flash,load it via mtp or use an sdcard.Also the files are not at /emulated/stuff but simply either at /external storage or .sdcard

Is this due to emui 9? Because in 8.1 I've had OTA updates without a problem. Even when rooted with magisk.

It works fine, my P20 whith Pie UMUI9 is rooted.

With this method, you need to patch a recovery_ramdisk image to boot the system with root access
And then, you can't access to twrp anymore with patched image (but anyway, for me, this twrp version does not work anymore with EMUI9 ! => touch screen doesn't work).

I suggest that you first read about magisk. And especially how to use it.
When you root your device many things can go wrong and your device can end up bricked.
Problem
So did this on my p20 and all worked well untill some module is causing the phone not to boot. I can boot without magisk but there is no way now to disable the faulty module. even reflashed the modified recovery boot image and the modules are still stuck. Any idea where i can delete all the modules?

3rd: boot and install magisk manager apk
4th: reboot to twrp and flash magisk
Reboot and patch your kernel boot.img
Reboot to twrp and flash the patched boot.img
Flash magisk again and u r rooted now

It seems that there is not a full fastboot v10.0.14.0 to get the boot image, the best you can do is flash this OTA update, then backup the boot, then rename the boot backed up and then patch it with Magisk.

Unable to open Magisk after booting the patched_boot image. Magisk doesn't open after clicking on its icon, therefore, unable to complete the installation of Magisk Manager and give the proper permissions on terminal program (Termux) .

Download the latest version of magisk manager(the apk) from the official site and install it.

I had to change the update channel to canary in magisk manager after that it worked.

You need the latest canary apk. After you install it, then set your channel, then patch your boot.img and fastboot it. Worked a charm for me yesterday when I updated my P2XL to A11 :good:

Couple of things come to mind.
1. Do you have the latest platform-tools?
2. Are you using Command Prompt or Powershell as your interface??
3. Is your patched boot.img 26.55MB??
4. Have you tried different USB A to C cables and ports??
5. Have you tried fastbooting the patched boot.img to both slots with:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img --slot=all
I'll wait to see if any of these fixes your issue

Hello, I have tried this method, but it doesn't seem to fix my issue at all, what's weird is that I can flash stuff like TWRP,.. normally but when I try to flash the patched boot zip. the phone just bootloop, any chance you can post the patched boot.img file here?

well, thank you for trying to help, but my phone is once again stuck in a bootloop with the google logo and a bar below it, guess i just can't flash magisk

Did you clean or dirty upgrade to A11??
If dirty, then did you disable/remove all magisk modules before you did so??

ah crap, that's the problem, i somehow got it from OTA even though my system partition was mounted, is there any way to disable all of them without clean flashing again?

edit: just used twrp to navigate to /data/adb/modules and deleted the folder, it worked, thanks for suggesting it, if anyone has the same problem that I did you can try this method
