OP7T Global (US) version on TMobile - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Hi, got OP7T Global (US), bought directly from OnePlus website.
I can't get the VVM work on T-Mobile using stock dialer. Anyone else having this issue? Any fix?
TIA

Following, I have the T-Mobile version and would love to have integrated visual voicemail working in the dialer app. I hate the fact T-Mobile forcing you to use their VMM app, it's terrible. @askdes if he even sees this, I hope they can give people options instead of forcing us to use crappy apps.

So even the T-Mobile 7T doesn't have the VVM working on stock dialer? I used to have 6T and it works with stock dialer

Install the T-Mobile visual voicemail app from the play store. Setup and activate your visual voicemail. You can then uninstall the app and it should work from stock dialer.

Uninstall it. All I needed to do was activate it then uninstall the vvm app. Then the stock dialer worked.

IDK how you guys are able to upload pics because the app won't allow me to do so but...
I figured it out. First uninstall VVM (if you already have it installed) then install it, set everything up, then uninstall it again. Once you uninstall it go to the dialer app, SETTINGS, CALL SETTINGS, VOICEMAILS, then check VISUAL VOICEMAIL

Yes i have 2 different sim. Tmobile and att. Same sims from my 6t and it works. The vvm is only for tmo, not att.

Here's the setting i have on stock dialer. Same on google dialer, i make sure all the VVM setting are correct

Still not working. Got NEW SIM card yesterday and talked to TMo tech support. They said they sent out OTA to my phone, rebooted the phone, etc. No luck

Just got the TMo 7T, VVM works right away using stock dialer and does not need to install the TMo VVM app. So now just need to wait to unlock SIM, and convert to Global OOS.

I have the same problem.
CC
All I could find on the subject
Recent HTC phones include a special version of AT&T Visual voicemail. As a result it's no long possible to download and install the standard vvm app from the play store. I've installed ARHD and would like to figure out how to get AT&T visual voicemail on this particular rom.
I've tried extracting the visual voicemail apk from my stock nandroid, but can't get it to work. I've installed it but the app doesn't appear with my other apps.
I can't post a link, but here's a copy paste of what I found on the at&t site regarding the m8 and visual voicemail.
Visual Voicemail for HTC Android smartphones
Starting in March 2014, all new 4G LTE HTC Android smartphone models will include a new, built-in Visual Voicemail application. The HTC One (M8) is the first Android smartphone to introduce the new HTC Visual Voicemail app.
Important Note
If you have an earlier model HTC Android smartphone and use the AT&T Visual Voicemail downloadable app for Android, your experience won't change. Follow the link above to view a list of supported smartphones.
Key features and benefits of the new HTC Visual Voicemail app for Android smartphones include:
New Message Counter displayed on the Visual Voicemail app icon, so you can quickly check if you have new messages from your smartphone app tray.
Text Transcription you can turn on and off from within the app, so you can read your voicemail messages discreetly on your smartphone.
Visual Voicemail icon button built into the app tray and dialer for quick access to your Visual Voicemail message inbox.
With Visual Voicemail on your HTC Android smartphone, you can:
View a list of your voicemail messages directly on your smartphone and play them in any order you choose, so you can get to your most important messages first.
Save messages to your smartphone's memory or memory card, so you can keep your important messages for as long as you want.
Reply to messages by returning the call or sending a text message.
Change your voicemail password and manage greetings directly on your smartphone.
Requirements to use Visual Voicemail
In order to use the Visual Voicemail app on your 4G LTE HTC Android smartphone:
Your smartphone data plan must include Visual Voicemail.
Your smartphone needs a cellular data connection. You can't set up or manage your Visual Voicemail over a Wi-Fi-only connection on your smartphone.

Compatible With ARHD 11.1?
Can this be flashed on top of ARHD 11.1? And will it add VVM to the phone section as well as an App? Has anyone done this?
This will only install the app if it works,it will not add anything other than that. I will not add the dialer functionality as are seen with new att roms.

Has anyone actually gotten this to connect with AT&T's voice mail system? I am running the DevEd ROM (pure stock outside of root) and while the app runs, and goes through the motions, it never gets the confirmation it needs to finalize setup.
I would love to get this back, as it's the only thing that I "miss" from the carrier firmware.

I havent had much luck with it on AOSP, or the dev, so I said the heck with it and started using google voice. It works just as good, if not better.
There's a new apk that was released on 11/6/14. Does anyone have it to post up?
This version of Visual Voicemail (2.8.2.21) doesn't seem to integrate with "Messages" the way the ROM version did, with speech-to-text. Am I missing something?
Also, is there a version that will work even when connected also to Wi-Fi in addition to mobile data? My main problem is that when a message is left while I'm on WiFi, the stock VVM chews through the battery fast trying to download but failing.

Attached is the latest version, from November 6, 2014.
For devices that are compatible with AT&T Visual VoiceMail see http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414957&cv=820#fbid=APh8mY9oZLY
AT&T had discontinued the speech-to-text service. It used to be a premium add-on, a few bucks a month. I had it as a free trial which lasted much longer than 30 days, and it was interesting and amusing to have - but it was NOT very accurate. So I wasn't terribly bummed when it was discontinued. BUT, the new version has speech to text as a tick off box in settings. Tick that box, reboot, and it works again!
Definitely will only work when connected to cellular data. There will be a popup that says that, if you are on wifi only.
deleted.
Thanks all, works like a charm on my nexus 5.

I found that I had to have the voicemail pin active for it to work. I think the app waits for the pin to be entered before doing whatever handshake or does. Put your password security back on for voicemail, try again and see if it works.

I did that, repeatedly... I finally just gave up. The only one who leaves voice mail anymore is my mother and telemarketing scum. Everyone else sends texts.
AT&T released an updated .apk on 2/12/15 and it replaced 2.10.1.27. Not sure of the version number as It appears to be hidden on the play store. If anyone has the latest version or is running a compatible device, could you please use an .apk extractor and send it up? I would greatly appreciate it!
Ridiculous that AT&T keeps restricting this app to BYOD that weren't purchased through AT&T.

Visual Voicemail app not compatible

To my surprise, the AT&T Visual Voicemail app can't be downloaded from the Play Store (a search for it won't find it). The att.com website does not show the Note 4 in its list of compatible phones (it does show a Note 3).
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414957&cv=820#fbid=KukrJc5X464
My Note 4 came with it. Isn't it on yours?
Att visual voicemail doesn't work, but the phone comes preloaded with a different visual voicemail app that is better anyway.
Just download 'PF Voicemail'.. I've used it few years now.

You are so right. I was looking in the AT&T folder and it isn't in there but going to all the apps, there it is: Visual Voicemail.
There's always google voice too.
Visual Voicemail App on Note 4
I've been on the phone with AT&T for an hour. The preloaded Voicemail App on the Note 4 will not let me complete setup. I follow the instructions and it fails to set up and prompts me to try again. Left with not choice but to contact carrier. They've removed into my phone in an attempt to set it up and it fails for them too. Of all the apps I have I love my visual voicemail the most.

if you are so inclined you could always use Google voice for visual voicemail.. that's what I do.. I like transcribed emails for my voicemails.. also comes with a link to the audio file so you can play it back.
And the best part.. you don't necessarily need a third party app.

I don't know if you are still having this problem, but I could not complete setup because I had another app that screens calls installed: Truecaller. I uninstalled it and that allowed Visual Voicemail to finish setup.
My wife has the same problem.
She just got the Note 4 and the AT&T Visual Voicemail does not work.
AT&T Tech support is so dumb and they can't figure it out. AT&T is claiming the app is not compatible anymore - after 2 hours of Troubleshooting LOL.
She had the note 3 before and the at&t VVM app worked before.
Anybody else can help .. maybe a workaround?

Yup I saw that and that too didn't work.
I think there is something wrong with her voicemail. You know when you call your own number it directs you to your voicemail right away? - it doesn't on her for some reason.
On my AT&T phone, its good.
Well, I guess this is definitely looking like an AT&T issue and they cant figure it out.

Call at&t. They will deactivate her voice mail, then turn it back on again. Should reset it completely when that happens.
I had that happen on my once. It is a quick tech support call to fix.
Open the in built voicemail app. Try to enter your password. If it fails. Close app, call voice mall. Enter password. End call Open visual voicemail app again and try to renter password it should work

voice mail on note 4
I am having the same problem. The strange thing is I got my phone when it first came out. I have had my visual voice mail up until 2 weeks ago. I can access it but no one can leave me a message. When anyone calls and I am unavailable they get a message that says I am unavailable at this time please try again later. I called technical support and they reset everything still can not get voice mail to work so they are sending it on and it will be 4 days before anyone will get back to me about the issue.

Visual Voicemail

Is anyone else having problems getting the native visual voicemail in the dailer to activate? I'm on T-Mobile and so far I've tried everything I can think of and the visual voicemail just won't activate.
Uninstall T-mobile's visual voicemail
Uninstall T-mobile's visual voicemail/ or any other visual voicemail app. When you open up the phone app it should pop up, you may have to reboot after uninstalling those apps but thats what it was for me.
I'm on Simple mobile (a T-Mobile MVNO) and I can't get theirs to work either. Support is no help.

T-Mo seems to be working on things regarding VM. I received this text today.
wait... u can get voicemail in the phoneapp again? i thought that ended a while back... i was installing an old version of google voice for a whle to keep it in the phone app...
so, if i uninstall google voice i can get voicemail in the phone app? or do i have to go through this process?:
1. Uninstall the newer Google Voice (temporarily). Prior to uninstalling, I wipe the app's Cache and Data too as a precaution, so I can't report on the results of following these steps without doing that.
2. Go to the APKMirror website and download the latest Google Voice v4.x APK, something like v4.7.10.
3. With Unknown Sources checked in the Security Settings on your phone, install and fully setup the old Google Voice version, including setting your Phone app to use Google Voice for voicemails.
4. Once it's all setup, you can update Google Voice to your heart's content. Note that if you go into the Phone Voicemail settings you'll see that it still doesn't give you an option to select Google Voice, but you'll also notice that it appears as if the only setting it now shows (Carrier) is not selected either, so the setting is retained even though you can't select it with the newer Google Voice installed.
5. Re-disable "Unknown Sources" if you wish.
Whats the problem?
i cant get it to work on att, but i dont think it ever did. i was able to get the visual voicemail in the phone app, but not with a transcript... but i have to use the old google voice app. make sure to set te old google voice to use phone app for voicemail. when i updated google voice it stopped updating voicemails in the phone app, so i guess ill just keep the old google voice app.

Are you on Tmobile? If so, do you have voice to text add-on on your account?
Trying to figure out what the issue is because nothing seems to work for me.
Make sure that your phone is not forwarded to another messaging service. If you ever tried another voice messaging app, sometimes they do this automatically. If you forget to undo it then you will not receive voice messages. You can bring your messages back by disabling call forwarding. To do this, call ##004# for Tmo/Att or ##002# as a generic default that should work for all other US carriers. Verizon should be *73 and Sprint *730 .

I'm starting to think this is a T-Mobile account settings issue. Does those who have it working I'd be interested in seeing if you have visual voicemail or voice to text enabled in your account settings.

On built in visual voicemail the transcription is done through Google and so you shouldn't need the T-Mobile add on any more, saves $4 a month.

So I bought the T-Mobile 7t model. I download the T-Mobile vvm app, activate it, switch to phone app click settings, calls, voicemail. Make sure vvm shows up. I uninstall the T-Mobile vvm ap, go to the phone app and go to settings, calls, voicemail again. Vvm is there and I can switch it on. If you don't have the Verizon vvm app try and download it from the playstore

Ah ok, very interesting. Never would have thought there would be a difference between sim slots?
When you say VVM is working- you mean the messages are actually being transcribed? If so thats awesome

No. Looking at posts for previous devices, it seems the modded google pixel dialer app might be needed. Maybe I'll have to wait for root to become a little more stable

Yes it is being transcribed. But only for sim 1. I don't think sim 2 supports it.

OK so I've been troubleshooting this for a few days in great detail. I can confirm that I have the provisioning right on VZW's side and both SIMs are working fine. To be clear, this problem is actually comprised of 2 separate issues that need to be resolved on the 7T via VZW:
1) Visual Voicemails for one of two lines do not download/open when two SIMs are active (with both Basic and Premium VVM provisioning). The only SIM that successfully downloads voicemails is the line that is designated as the Default SIM for Mobile Data. Let's say that SIM1 is being used for Mobile Data. The issue seems to be that VZW doesn't allow for SIM2 to download the VVM data via SIM1. You can test this by disabling SIM1, clearing the Phone app storage, rebooting, and allowing SIM2 to reactivate VVM. You'll see that all the voicemails come through just fine. When you activate a second SIM and a caller leaves a new voicemail, you will briefly see a VVM entry pop-up... then when you click Play, it shows an error and nothing is heard. So, again, my guess is that VZW isn't allowing VVM data for one SIM to download via another (likely a legacy security framework). This needs to be fixed by VZW (or OnePlus/Google would need make a second Mobile Data source available via the OS that apps could switch on/off as needed - note, only one can be active at a time with DSDS).
2) Regardless of SIM1 and SIM2 data issues, "Premium" VVM is only partially working on the current build of the 7T Phone app. Assuming SIM1 is active and designated for Mobile Data AND Premium VVM is correctly provisioned on VZW's side, when a caller leaves a new voicemail the audio is transcribed to text and delivered correctly to the phone. The text appears in the notification banner as previously stated in this thread. However, when you go into the Phone app and click on the new VM entry, all you see is the audio play/stop widget. None of the transcribed text is displayed. So, fair to say, this is an app issue which needs to be fixed by OnePlus.
FYI, I've tried every possible modified/patched build of the Google Phone (Go) app... and none of them worked with VVM. I'm out of ideas for a native dialer that supports Premium VVM. If *anyone* has two VM lines working on VZW, please share...

A way has been found.

Root solution doesn't count. Second SIM is for work... and I have Android Enterprise active, which won't authenticate on rooted phones. Still looking for a non-root solution...
The T-mobile VM app has always been hit or miss on my unbranded 3T. Switched to Google Voice just for the voicemail. Now that I have two lines forwarding unanswered calls to two Google accounts on my phone. it's one app instead of two and the translation is decent enough. Never had Verizon so maybe it has some features I'm missing out on.

Question T-Mobile - Visual Voicemail

So just right off the bat, I know that T-Mobile are assholes and they setup their voicemail to only work by calling in or using their ****ty proprietary app.
That said, I get a vague sense that there probably shouldn't be a lot stopping someone that has root access and maybe a custom rom from fixing the default visual voicemail feature included in the google phone app to get it working with T-Mobile anyway by figuring out what exactly it is the default app needs to do to make T-Mobile think it's their app that's connecting?
Wondering if anyone knows if that's something I could potentially look forward to in the future because quite frankly I hate calling in to get my voicemails and I hate their app. If I had to choose between one of those 2 options for voicemails and just straight up disabling voicemails all together for my line, I'd picking disabling voicemails.
Is this a new change? I have MetroPcs and visual voicemail was working on my 5T running android 9, then it stopped working when I switched to the 9 Pro.
VVM working fine for me on the 9 Pro coming from the 7 Pro.. I'm actually on Premium, not sure how that happened since I don't remember signing up for it lol.
VVM on T-Mobile hasn't worked for years unless you're specifically using their proprietary VVM app. It wasn't working for me on my last phone (Nokia 7.1) and it's not working right now either on my OP9Pro. It's pretty well documented too:

It's not just me.
I gave up trying to get the in-dialer VVM (and Pixel call screening) to work, and went back to using Google Voice. It's MUCH better than T-Mobile's POS voicemail app, but no, it's not the ideal.
Guys, have you tried that one?
We're not looking for an alternative voicemail service. We're looking to use the in-dialer voicemail like every other device that has the Google dialer as the default.
One thing to consider is on Pixel Devices TMobile VVM works by default but I haven't seen it work on OnePlus yet, at least on the unlocked version like my 8 & 9 pro. Would be nice if someone could figure out the Pixels secret. Thanks
It works on other carriers outside of the pixel. T-Mobile actively blocks it.
TMobile VVM works fine for me. I don't subscribe to premium. I did purchase my OP9 plus from best buy so it the LE2125 unlocked

Right. We're talking about getting the in-dialer voicemail, not the T-Mobile app.
Are you running stock? I don't even see a in app voicemail?
I found the switch in settings. Uninstalled T-Mobile POS VVM. Testing now
Mine is working.
Not to beat a dead horse here but this is where I am at. I know T-mo will not provision VVM unless you use theirs. I am running an unlocked OP9 LE2125. When I got to settings and look at VVM in the google phone app, it has carrier blank and T-mo voicemail number greyed out. What I am currently attempting to do is look at the code and see if i can change that number. I currently got a google voice number and I know people do not want to use google voice, they are simply trying to use the VVM without using T-mo. I am trying to see if i can find at least a work around until Lineage OS for OP9 is released. I currently contacted T-mo to shut my voicemail off and I used the short code to stop forwarding calls to my voicemail. So far when people call my T mobile number google voice picks up if i let it ring or if i reject a call. Now i need to see how to get into the google phone app to update that greyed out number
Creative, that's not what people are looking to do. If you were using a Pixel (or a few other phones that use Google's Dialer as standard) the in-dialer VVM uses T-Mobile's (or whatever carrier you're using) voicemail service, it just runs everything through the dialer.
In addition, you don't need to have T-Mobile shut off voicemail to use Google Voice, you go into your call settings and just change the conditional call forwarding numbers to your google voice number.
And it's not about not wanting to use Google Voice. It's about getting the same functionality that every other carrier has without HAVING to use Google Voice.
Going to be honest here, you're making way more out of this than you need to.

That looks like the OnePlus dialer, not the Google Dialer, no?

I'm out of work for another month. Just trying to keep busy lol. That's all
Not sure if people care, but I've finally able to use Google's native visual voicemail in the phone dialer.
I've been using the google voice trick to have conditional call forwarding to my google voice, and I check voicemail there.
I can confirm that I have visual voicemail working on my stock pixel 5 and a second pixel 5 on T-Mobile.
Here's what I did:
1) go into google voice --> hamburger menu --> settings --> device & numbers --> and delete the linked number and also everything else in there (I'm not sure this step is needed but it worked for me)
2) go to the phone dialer and send the following code: ##004# (then wait for the success message that it worked, took about 15 or so seconds to get confirmation). I rebooted. Then the visual voicemails started appearing natively in the phone dialer.
3) For my wife's phone, for some reason the visual voicemail icon on the bottom right was not there, but then suddenly appeared after rebooting and waiting a few minutes. I also wasn't getting messages, so I sent the ##004# code again, and then it started working. Again, no idea if that did anything but it started working! Good luck!
4) Profit!
Hope this helps others.
Cheers!
