Enter recovery (no physical buttons) - MTCD Android Head Units General

I am not responsible for any damage resulting from the performing of this method !
Information
* My device : PX6 RK3399
* This method is especially for those who have a HU with touch buttons and one physical RESET button.
* If your Head Unit turns immediately off after pressing shortly the reset button, than this method might work on your device or maybe you ended up in a bootloop and couldn't enter the recovery
Here we go !
1. Unmount the screen,be careful with the cables (picture 1)
2. disconnect both cables (picture 1) from the printed circuit board
3. Connect the reset button cable with the touch buttons connector ,as shown in picture 2
4. Put the frame in front of the screen (picture 3)
By the way I used a adjustable DC power supply for the Head Unit to do this on a table
Now let's enter the recovery !
1. Press and hold the reset button for at least 12 seconds ( the DC Power Supply shows the current flow, that's how I figured out when the device is completelly off )
2.Release the reset button and press it instantly but shortly again and release
3.After releasing wait for 1-2 sec and press the button instantly but shortly again and release
4. Your device should boot in the recovery mode
5. Use the reset button to navigate through the recovery (short press = scroll, long press = select)
That's it !
Thanks to @SirCore for another option :
Reluctant to physically mess with my FOXWAY HU, I found a work around for those of you with HU where the buttons don't work in recovery mode:
USB connect a keyboard to the HU.
Install a terminal emulator such as this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=en_AU
Start the emulator.
Type reboot recovery
Hit Enter
When in recovery mode use the keyboard arrows to navigate through the menu and click enter to choose.
Note: I first tried using a mouse, I could navigate up and down but couldn't start any operation (mouse click didn't do anything).

Good write up. An option is to connect directly to SOM and force recovery, outlined per one of my threads, for any MTCD/E unit.

What would need to be connected on a PX5?
I have interest in soldering a switch if possible to be able to enter recovery easily if ever needed

Q/ "What would need to be connected on a PX5? (MTCD/E)"
A/ Install a switch and connection to 3.3v supply on head unit, via say a single 1K resistor (voltage divider isnt necessary, as sourcing 3.3v supply, not 5v.)
Refer: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...px3-5-headunit-mod-recover-flash-som-t3766892
These resistors are necessary as 'voltage dividers', with a value between 1.8v and 3.3 OK. These simply place a logic '1' on recovery - forcing the SOM into recovery mode

The OTG cable I already built and worked perfectly.
But I didnt quite understand which points I would solder the switch to be able to enter recovery whenever I want.
I would need to short pin 1 with pin 20 with a 1k resistor in between?

Hi. I have exactly the PX6 with touch buttons like you (AA0436B) but it won't work for me. The HU won't turn off when I press the RST button. I tried the procedure without the first step by un- and deplug the HU. No success

Stucked at splash screen not bootloader

My Uni got stucked at splash screen i.e the blue O2 screen (not bootloader).
The story was like this:
Just before it happened, I was trying to enter the bootloader to flash my ROM, i dont know how i did it but somehow there was some charactors on my screen, some settings.. My curiousity lead me to play around with the settings, I couldnt remember what did i do, I just press the up and down button and the settings changed. Feeling bad that it might ruin my precious Uni, I quickly soft reset it. And then BOOM! I cant start it anymore. It just stucked at the blue O2 splash screen.
Pls pls anyone know how to get back to the setting screen again? I guess it was some button combination to get into that screen. Does anyone know what is the combination?
try this tools
instructions:
-disconnect USB cable
-disable USB connection in desktop ActiveSync
-connect USB cable
-start mtty
-create new connection and select USB from ports
press enter to see USB prompt in mtty:
USB>
type (dont copy&paste):
task 28
and press enter
If the result is the following then you are out of luck:

Forget it. You have a defective internal flashdisk. The only option is to return it to the vendor/manufacturer and have it repaired under warranty.
believe Wiz words, because i had the same problem !!TWO!! times in three months.
next time i will smash the Uni against a wall
Shoot! 2 times in 3 months? What did you do dude?
I'm so sad coz I'm currently in Malaysia and the unit is from UK. I asked the O2 service center over here and they said they dont have the jurisdiction to repair it. Even opening up the Uni will temper the warranty. What a bull! Now I have to find a way to send my Uni to UK quick since the warranty is gonna void in 2 months time.

Hi guys,
There is a tip from Dubli for those who stuck on splash screen:
1. Get mtty
2. Connect to USB, press enter
3. Type task 32, enter
4. Type 28, enter
5. Flash CE Rom only
6. Hard Reset
Make sure to type task 32 first before task 28 coz task 28 alone wont work.
Pls try this and tell me the outcome. I cant try this coz i just sent my uni to UK just now.

Is there a way to resolve this issue please and can someone be kind enought to direct me.
I used the rom update from - my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft2.html
Thank you in advance.
Try to hard reset your device
hold buttons: "-" + "-"
and then reset
so in practical terms, push the top 2 dash keys which are between your green and red phone icon buttons, and while holding them reset your device using the pen.
this should give you a white screen with a little menu.
You can now select clear device or something, I think it's the 0 or the X
it should work
if that doesn't work try to put your device in Bootloader
buttons: Backlight (front little button) + power button + reset button (with your pen)
again, hold the backlight and power button, then reset button
the screen should be dark, but if you look real close it would say USB or Serial v1.0 or v1.1 or something
you should be able to flash now using the tool
Also look around on this forum, loads of topics about upgrading/flashing and hanging problems
more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=290234
u might have to update bootloader, try 2 read wiki.xda-developers.com lots of usefulll infos for beginers
Thank you
To both members above, thank you for your time. I am now using the update tool, hopefully this will now work. I used the method pressing the light button and power and reset. (Bootloader)

Recovery Help Please

Just had an Eonon GA2160 head unit installed in my wife's car - unit was becoming unresponsive, and after contacting Eonon tech support they advised that i flash an updated firmware which they provided- this unit has all touch buttons plus the reset hole FYI - after flashing using the normal, non-recovery System Update in settings, firmware flashed but upon restart the unit is stuck on the lock screen and won't move on to full boot - I've hit reset using the pin hole on the front, and have tried to initiate a re-flash of firmware using the method provided by Eonon tech support (turning key to ACC, reset hole, turn key off, then back on again) - that method doesn't work - is there another way to get into recovery mode with these units? The only physical button is the pin hole reset -
I have an older Eonon unit with physical buttons and it's so easy to get into recovery mode if I run into any problems - I've googled and searched forums but can't really find any definitive method with the touch only units - thanks to anyone who can help -
Hey Bro,
Did you got any succes? I am stuck in this also. The screen is black only the touch buttons lights are ON. If i press the reset button the light is flashong on the button every 10 seconds and thats it...

I was sent instruction by the manufacturer to get into upgrade mode - they sent me a link to the appropriate firmware for my unit, and had me unzip the files on a FAT32 formatted micro sd card - here is a link to a video they sent me to show how to get it going, but my unit just sat on the boot logo screen no matter what I did - manufacturer told me that the unit is bad, so I packed it up this morning and am sending back for replacement - keep in mind this method is get you into upgrade/flash mode - doesn't look like it gets you into recovery mode which was so easy on older models with actual buttons -

Dasaita new canbus file to fix mpg/kph display issues

Hi
I recently returned my PX5 MTCD unit (purchased through Amazon) as it kept switching the speedo to kph. Since I've returned it Dasaita have sent me a sendspace link to a 500mb fix which they reckon will stop the issue. I do remember seeing others with the same problem so thought I'd share here.
This was for a Peugeot 208 UK 2015 incidentally. I'd previously tried Canbus updates, new ROM's and every Canbus setting with no luck.
If this does fix the issue please let me know as I'll probably repurchase the head unit. I've re-uploaded the file to Google Drive as i have unlimited storage there.
Here you go for the file:
Update steps:
1. Check whether the wiring is plugged rightly and the canbus is plugged in rightly.
2. Prepare a USB flash drive, format the usb, only put the CANBUS.UPDE file in the folder into the root directory of the USB flash drive.
3. Insert the USB flash drive into the navigation USB interface and check if the navigation correctly reads the USB flash drive data.
4. Enter the system settings, click the factory settings, enter the password: canupdates
5. Navigation prompt download, wait for the prompt download to complete or the machine to restart, the upgrade step is completed, then unplug the U disk
Special attention: The upgrade process is about 20 minutes, and our device is forbidden to power off during the period, otherwise the canbus will be scrapped directly!!!
EDIT: Ah, I'm new so I can't post links. If anyone wants a copy of the Canbus file, please ping me a message and I'll send over.

I've got a px5 unit in a 2013 mini Cooper and it is working well except it seems to have slowed down the mph update speed on the main factory speedo. When I set cruise control, the "cruise set speed" display shows at kph instead of MPH, after cruise speed it set, the dash display switches back to showing mph. Lol.
Tried contacting hifimax to resolve but they haven't been friendly about it.
Hello.
Help me please! Diligently!
My unit is Px5 8xA53 1.5G 4G
MCU: MTCE_MX_V2.88b_1
Android: px5-userdebug 8.0.0 OPR5.170623.007 eng.hct.20180627.151600 test-keys
Ford Fiesta 2015
Unfortunately, I could not program the buttons in the "Factory settings" (nothing was visible there) and I decided to update CANBUS.UPDE but immediately he dropped the error "fail !!! 0x0e" and after the reset canbus does not work
was the canbus box damaged? Can I resuscitate this?
I disconnected the battery, reset everything to the factory settings in recovery, I have read the new MTCE ... nothing helped ... please help me quickly because the equipment is new and I do not know whether to send it to the seller ...
or maybe it hurt the new mcte and deleted the canbus settings? I do not know, help ...
Yes it does work. It is because of my pestering of Dasaita the file exists in the firstplace. I have shared the details in other posts.
The actual file is nowhere near 500mb - the file includes a number of pointless video clips. The actual required file is a few kb. Takes a few minutes to install.
I have a 2016 Peugeot 208 GT Line.
Dasaita were very helpful in working with me to provide the fix. The only remaining issue is that the fuel consumption program still only shows metric data, no matter what settings you give it.

TCL 65P815 firmware update problem and few things

Hi,
My problem is with 65P815. Fabric software was v084, i tried to update to V191 official version from TCL page, but after update and turning off TV, there is nothing shows on screen. I hear only sounds, and remote clicks, menu gone etc.
I search for info, and go back to v083 software, that helped and fixed TV. But now I don't know what to do to fix my TV. Tried to update with factory reset, nothing helped. Any tips how to deal with it ?
Next thing is concerned with soundbar thing, I have LG soundbar, is it possible to control soundbar over TCL's remote ? On my old Samsung TV it worked normally.
Here in TCL I don't see option to choose sound sourec (tv speaker/optical/hdmi), there is no option to mute TV speaker and move sound to soundbar. For now I use 2 remotes, but I want to use only one like in Samsung. I connected soundbar with optical cable to my TV.
Hi there. Trapped into same thing. After flash, I can hear 'bing' when you navigating in menu, backlight is working, but screen still black. Tried to flash V191(Inserted stick to USB2.0 with Update.img and plugged in with power button pressed). But got same thing. Led is blinking during i suppose flashing, but after that - nothing. Can it be somehow reset to stock or whatever?
you have to go back to 0.83
Turn off the TV, plug out the cable. put the drive into usb 2.0, press power button on TV's back and plug in power cord, if led start blinking wait about 10 mins to finish flashing. Sometimes you have to do this twice and TV will be ok.
Write to TCL support about your problem, let them prepare patch
Hmm... I have couple of questions then.
Does that mean v083 firmware didn't published somewhere?
And does that mean that we can't update 65p815 to any new firmware with Android 11?
what was your native FW ?
I tried to update to V191 which is on android 9, and update was failure. There is something wrong with the FW
File upload and sharing. Large file transfers. Free online cloud storage.
Visit this link to download: V8-R51MT02-LF1V083.zip
files.fm
here you can find v0.83
Android 11 is in beta now, we have to wait for official final update
I didn't check my original fware version. I know that was very stupid, but i supposed that just platform is matter.
Thanks for link. Will try this fware. Hope that will help, because i don't like to waste time with support, that usually just redirects to another operator...
it should, try second time if the first will failure
Ok, i just finish downloading and i'll start bring that baby to life. Thanks for help. Will report if suceed.
report it to TCL support to make technical request, and to fix that firmware
Ok. Just flashed twice. God damn, you have been right! All works like charm!
If someone will be as "lucky" as me, steps are next:
1. Load to local pc zip from above.
2. Format flash stick with FAT32 and copy it to root.
3. Insertt stick into USB 2.0 port.
4. Turn off TV power physycally.
5. Press and hold On/Off button on a TV's back and plug TV holding button pressed.
6. Hold for 10 secs, the led in front of TV will start blinking - it is ok.
7. Wait till it will stop blinking and wait some 5 mins after that.
8. Repeat steps 4-7. After TV restart it will show TCL logo and Android welcome screen will appear.
Ok now we should think about how to flash properly new version of FW,
latest official firmware is
https://www.mediacenter.tcl.eu/uploads/common/R51M_Android_P_V191.zip
When I try to flash with it, from menu update/local it works but only first time. When I turn off TV, then screen is black
I found such instruction, what to do after installation
Press the Settings button in the remote control:
Press OK on the icon: Picture.
Then go to the line Advanced settings.
Scroll down to the line: Brightness settings.
Scroll down to the line: Contrast.
With the remote control, do the key sequence: 6 4 2 5
The special menu appears.
Go to the line “Reset All” and press OK.
Go to the line “Reset Shop” and press OK.
Now unplug the main power cord.
Wait for ~2 minutes.
Plug back the main power cord and perform complete installation.

Sure I had rebooted it after flashing as I have been using this firmware for about a month.
I remembered flashing it 2 times. The first time was not successful (can't remember due to what). The second time reflash (same as what you did as in post #10) was smooth and without any problem.
jngiag, looks like it should, as for me... Maybe, i shall try 272 one more time.

I think it was due to a request to input pin while I was trying to setup live TV. I did not know the pin so I powered it off and reflashed as in post #10. Sorry, I can't remember it exactly.

Your 65P815 with panel ST6451D02-H...... Project ID MUST be 283.
This is your problem with firmware (black screen ) !
So you need to change ID number from 305 to 283.
To modify the project ID, when TV is ‘ON’, with the remote control do the key sequence
0 6 2 5 9 8 .....MENU.... 283.
At the end of the key sequence the TV must reboots alone if the project ID has been understood by the TV. If it doesn’t, update the product with the last software available and try again.
