I'm trying to find an app which runs a server or something on the phone and is able to turn on the ringer.
I keep loosing my phone in my house and it takes me ages to find it again. Even calling myself doesn't work since sometimes the phone is in silent mode without vibration.
Is there an app on the market which remotely turns on the ringer (even the phone was in silent mode) and has a simple web interface? Lets say my phone is connected to Wifi or 3G, I type in the IP Adress of my phone in an internet explorer and click on "locate" or something
Thanks
Tasker can handle something like that. It's an amazing program, so worth the $5 (or $6 from the market), but you can download a 7 day trial from the website:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
You should be able to set up a task to turn on the ringer (or to play a song or tone or whatever) when a particular text string is sent to the phone. Or, presuming you have a landline, you can turn the ringer on when you call just from that line. Lots of ways to do it.
Have a look on the market for
Wheres my droid
A simple text can set off the ringer, enable gps and txt you location etc...

tasker sounds interesting, does it need root?
Wheres my Droid is exactly what I'm looking for, but it would be great if I could activate it by mail and not by phone only (cant send mails to a phone number in germany)
Tasker doesn't require root, I don't think there's anything it does that would require it (could be wrong, I do have root, but it's not listed as a requirement). I don't think it handles emails, though, either. But I'd say you can call it and use Tasker to handle the call from a specific number. I checked and nothing else comes to mind as a way to find it, but it's worth testing out if you think you can use Tasker for other things (I have alarms, various profile changes, app events, headphone plugins, etc) - with some work, it does replace several programs I was using. Haven't lost my phone, though
On the tasker website, it lists "Email (K9)" as a compatible event - does that mean emails through the Gmail App will work as well?
sorry to bring up an old thread, but is there an app that works stictly on WiFi only? I have an Android phone with no service and I would like a Find my phone app usable on WiFi
Hey guys,
I have SGS2, and I wonder if there is some application that will show me notification when I receive sms on my computer, and I should be able to reply to it from computer too ? I tried "Remote Notifier for Android" from market, and at first glance it looks really nice, but sms notifications doesnt work, and I cant reply to sms via computer aswell. Is there some other app which can do this ?
NOTE: I dont want web-service based apps, that require me to have service started on my phone and to connect through browser from my computer, I want standalone app that communicates with phone through wireless, just like Remote Notifier.
try MightyText.
not sure if it is out of beta yet but it does works. you just need to log in to your gmail account.

True. I guess it is because of the fact you can't 'push' that data to a pc. I believe there's an app needed (like the plugin for the MightyText app) to 'convert' that data to make it 'recognizable' (the data between pc and phone).
Notifications can't be pushed. Only the data itself.
So i believe, what you are looking for, doesn't exist (yet).
Can someone confirm?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i think yes, it does not exist yet. but many people satisfied with how MightyText works if you follow from the first Beta release. i think many people actually find this type is already convenient so far, instead of how you asked. maybe not yet. you can try PM the dev and state your suggestion/opinion maybe.
Remote Notifier for Android does the exact thing I need, except its stopped developing and some features dont work. I searched yesterday alot to find some similar app, but no success.
@LuffyPSP
I already discussed with one of colleagues, and will start developing it in next few days.
I think MyPhoneExplorer might be able to do what you ask. You might wanna give it a try!
Maybe it can, but MPE requries phone to be connected with USB
Does anyone know of a text application I can use on my wifi tablet without having to use on my cell phone? I don't mind using a Bluetooth sync application. I tried Pro SMS but it won't work on the tablet. I used textra on my cell phone and I don't want to change it, so the text applications that require installation on both devices will not be what I want.
Perhaps use Samsung's sidesync
I dont think what you are asking is possible or would even be allowed due to security reasons.
Anything like that would surely need permissions on the host device (your phone) via an app.
Side sync which is Samsung devices only has the ability to allow you to use your tablet as if it was your phone.

It has been a while since I used it but this app worked very well to do what you want and it is conpatible with the T-800.

You have to also instal the phone version of the app on your phone and set that up too. Worked great with my Nexus 7. I haven't had a real need for it lately, so haven't set it up on my Tab S.

Yes, sorry, I missed that. Oh, well.
I wouldn't mind using mighty text, however I like textra a lot and prefer it on my phone and the other app becomes the default app for texting on my phone

Odd question from someone who personally does not send a lot of texts. Why can't you just use both? One to text with on your device, textra, and one to sit on your phone and intercept text messages from your tablet, mightytext. Dose mighty text actually have to be the default messaging app to work or can it not just sit there quietly in the background and intercept text messages for you?
I'm using TextNow on my tablet. You can even make calls from it if you have the credits to do so and those are easy to get if you're willing to watch short videos. I've never had any issues with this app.

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion with MyFord Touch, and I used the SMS functionality with my old LG G3 with no issues.
When I got a new text message, a notification would pop up on my car screens for only that message.
With my Pixel XL, however, whenever I get a new text message while connected to my car, the car pops up a new message notification for every single message that I received since my phone was last connected to my car.
Often this means that I get like 20 or so new message notifications in a row, a second or two apart. It's extremely annoying, and it essentially means my car's displays are unusable and it makes the stupid notification sound repeatedly until it catches up.
Is anyone having a similar issue with their car bluetooth?
Any ideas how to fix it?
yeah im having the same issue and boy is it one annoying bug ...... my temp fix was in bluetooth settings you have a gear next to your car name and you can select what your car has access to and you can uncheck message access
I had the same issues. I don't even use the feature. I prefer my phone reading me my texts. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the bluetooth update that Google is working on. I was happy to discover the message access check box, and turn it off, in my pixel's bluetooth settings.
Though, I think Ford needs to put in the ability to turn this off stereo side, as well. You can turn off the sound but not the actual notification on MFT.

Same here...I just disable texts in settings on my Ford touch. It's very annoying. You can turn messages off on my Ford touch.

I get the same issue, but in my Skoda, so it would appear not specific to ford. It's bloody annoying

Holy fk was this annoying. I've had all good things to say about my pixel but the bluetooth issues are bad, and it's not just this bug. I had music playing over a phone call yesterday very annoying, I had to cancel it in app. Also some times audio doesn't turn off when I get out of my car when it disconnects.

I have the same problem with my '16 F150 with Sync 3. Every single message will download and the notification will play. I just went into the Bluetooth options and removed notification access.

Same here with my 2015 Escape. I only let my Pixel connect for music now. I'm assuming this will also be the case with my Ford GT350 but have not tested that yet.
+1

What you mean it notifies you for every new sms or repeats notifications for old sms? Did you use some sort of sms recovery? If so they would be considered essentially as new sms..

Add another here. 2013 Explorer. I also just disabled message access in Bluetooth settings until this is fixed.

Yeah, I ended up turning off the notification sound for now. I may end up just turning off message access altogether.
It just sucks because I do like being able to have my car read me my text messages.
I really hope they fix this soon.

Same here, '16 F150. I turned to the Sync 3 message notification to Silent, so at least there's a gentle popup when I get a message, and the phone's notification sound still comes through if I'm streaming audio via BT
I was hoping that the latest update would fix this, but I'm still having this issue with 63X.
Last update (V) fixed this on my Focus. Either that or the update cleared some data / cache or fixed something else that was causing it.
Same issue for 2015 Chevy Silverado

I believe the update did address this issue. Read the "change log" somewhere and it mentioned Bluetooth notifications issue was addressed. Hoping it is fixed, had the same repeat message popping up (2016 Civic)

Sent myself a test SMS while connected to the car and it just came through once. Might be different for other models though.
And yeah, I really should read the changelogs haha

Same here with redmi note 8 global version. Tried Yaata, Chomp sms, textra same result no notification sound. So first they installed Google message app then blocked all others. Bravo!
Update
Redmi note 8 have combined sms and notification sound. So only app that dont have their own notification sound will work. Like facebook messenger works if used for sms.
Strange limitation.
TEXTRA sound and notifications
hey guys ! I had a similar issue while using textra , it´s definitly permissions ! when installing it may not be enough just saying allow for the questions that textra asks , be sure to go to textra permission and allow " sound " ( or similar ) worked like a charm for me !
cheers !
Yea ran into this thread as I also had the same problem with Textra. I received my Redmi Note Pro 4 days ago and did a phone swap from an LG G8 only minutes ago.
For anyone else that might run into this, I had to go into the Settings/notifications section and played around with all 3 pages (lockscreen, floating, and badges) to get texta notification sounds.
As an aside, I transferred all my backed up notifications/call logs saved over time from every phone this phone# has used so that all history is intact. (Thanks to the SMS and Call Log backup app).
Both the LG G8 and this phone's stock messaging app do not show the actual messages, and the Redmi's will not even bring up the keyboard when I go into a conversation. Textra works perfectly!
Depending on text app you are using, you may have more or less tuning to do in order to get the notifications, and then it also depends what permission you are going to give there and what mode you are on (General, Silent, DND).
Also note some older apps just do not deal with the new way notifications works since Orea in that case no matter what you do, you may not receive notifications at all.
Personally I am using Signal which also allows me to have a per contact different notification and which works with overriding DND if contact is stored on phone and stared (do not forget to star contacts you want to pass through DND mode).
As a general rule of thumbs, you always need to make sure the following are set up per app you want notification to work.
Obviously make sure in the actual app settings, notifications is turned on.
Unlike previous post I dont/want need floating notifications and lock screen notifications for security reasons. That said you can leave lock screen and hide content. That's a per app setting too.
In that notification page, you may have additional settings to set at the bottom, like for example in Signal you also have a MESSAGE sub-section where you can tune up notification sensitivity on a stared contact. If you want to be sure to receive notification for that particular contact set it to "High" importance. In signal at the end of that contact list you have "Default" option where all messages from unstared contacts/numbers goes. Mine is set to low, because I don't want to receive any notifications for those when I am in DND.
Also make sure to play with battery optimization triggers. To avoid issues I usually have no restrictions on apps I want to receive notifications from like text apps, so I run them without restrictions at all. That's a handful of apps anyway.
Finally if none of the above works for you or if your app has never updated its way to handle notifications which have changed with Android updates, you may have to install a third party app to deal with them.
As a turn around when I dont manage to fix the notifications I want, or if the app is not able to override DND, I use MacroDroid.
I give all the required permission (including Autostart and no battery restriction) to play notifications properly on that MacroDroid app notification permissions, and then I create a new macro for the app (or all the apps, multiple apps can be selected at once) I want to receive.
As trigger I set Notification received, set parameters I want to use and apps concerned then as Action I set Play sound with selecting the sound I want to play. All done.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
