LG has just informed us via a press release that they will be rolling out the Lollipop upgrade to the LG G3 next week. Starting in Poland. LG is claiming to be first to roll out the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. While Motorola has started their soak test for Lollipop on the Moto X (2014), they haven’t started the official rollout just yet. While LG is starting the rollout in Poland we should be seeing it in other countries shortly later on. For those of us in the US, it’ll be closer to December, due to the carriers.
“LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.”
Android 5.0 Lollipop brings a ton of new features. But for the LG G3, the most notable ones will be the battery and camera features that Google has added. Like Project Volta. The battery life on the Nexus 6 is pretty good, and I’m interested to see how the LG G3 does with the Lollipop update.
It looks like the developer preview at Google I/O this year really helped out the OEMs as we’re already seeing leaks of the LG G3, Samsung Galaxy S5 and other devices with Lollipop on board and this is the third device slated to get Lollipop this month that’s not a Nexus. Wonder if LG is going to beat the Nexus devices this year? It’s quite possible as the Nexus 5 isn’t going to be getting the update til at least November 12th.
Too bad it will look nothing like Lollipop.

That's true. Lollipop is really nice looking on my nexus 7. But won't it help developers to base their roms on the release to make it look like stock?
Yeah that really upset me. Lollipop looks fantastic and doesn't look anything like it.

Nice, despite the whiners and crybabies talking about how it doesn't look like lollipop, they should have known that when they bought the skinned LG g3,why would this update be any different lol... I'm happy LG is doing this update right! Can't wait!

Rooted but not a custom rom here...any idea how the upgrade for us is going to go? Do we need to go back to stock to upgrade?
It doesn't look like Lollipop, IE: it doesn't look like a Nexus device. That's a shocking revelation, and I am appalled. I figured that LG would completely scrap their own UI, and just stick AOSP lollipop on the phone, simply shocking. That said, until ART works with xposed, I'll be rocking KK. Not a big deal either way, and in all seriousness, you folks can't be shocked that LG is keeping their UI, right? Right? Just like every other OEM who skins android.
Got a Nexus 6 ordered so just unrooted and returned to stock awaiting 4.4.4, then will put the LG G3 up for sale.
Damn. And I just ordered my Note 4.
My question is when will there be a stock AOSP 5.0 rom for the G3? This phone is a monster in the spec field, and I want to keep it. I would like to flash a vanilla lollipop rom, however.
So apparently the D855 variant has a leaked build of lollipop booting with no issues...wondering what needs to be done for it to work on the D851? Are the firmwares even compatible?
+1 ....are there any d851 devs alive out there? This feels like the Jedi's are damn near extinct in our neck of the woods.

I am genuinely curious WHAT needs to be done to get it ported over.

That leaked build was paid for by donations. The guy bought the build from LGBB with donations from other forum members. Be patient, CM12 is being worked on and it will be out when its ready.

I wasn't being impatient. I was merely asking questions. Of which you answered none. But thanks for the info anyways.
I would also like to see lollipop ported over to the d851 seems like theres no love on our side can a dev plz port this over for our beloved device willing to donate im sure a lot off us will ...
Really! ? The nexus doesn't even have it yet. These things take time. I can't imagine any of the devs are just sitting around saying they aren't interested in 5.0. If you really want it, s start building! Or wait quietly, but don't criticize the folks who do this for you for free!

Hoping the wi-fi calling source code is included in the upcoming updates to Lollipop.
I dont understand why some folks on xda feel the need to add useless comments in response to a question.. Would it not be better to just (putting it nicely) not respond if you can't help, instead of insulting..
You can consider my comment useless if you want. But you would be better off telling it to someone who cares about what you think.
Can't wait for lollipop!
Hi guys,
because this is one of the most asked questions, I wanted to keep this thread with the most actual information.

Hi,
That answer was written by me. Until now that's all what we know but hopefully it can be released much sooner. Unfortunately, nothing is certain yet.
We'll inform the community as soon as we can promise at least an approximate release date.

Yes, communication and a bit of marketing. Sorry but you cannot expect engineers to pop up here.

I have not seen many UMI brand phones which have released source codes, but I was wondering if you have any plans of releasing the kernel sources and/or full sources for this device.
I am looking to buy this phone, but I would like to be able to compile my own kernel and ROM for the devices I own
dont be waiting for nougat.i have a z3+ with nougat and in android N everything is worse than mm
The new Ulefone Gemini Pro was presented last week on MWC 2017.
http://www.stuff.tv/my/features/ulefone-gemini-pro-almost-carbon-copy-iphone-7-plus
This phone also has a X27 SoC, but it is already running Android 7.0.
So Mediatek released Nougat-drivers for X27 a few weeks ago to Ulefone.

This makes me sad.
Well its quite possible some dev could work some magic , bet the main boards are not too different from a reference board by mediatek , umi spec has well known components for screen and camera so possible to hack a port from same soc or even just tweak a few drivers and swap kernal ...we need a dev
Are there any sources out?

Not from UMI, there are phones with mtek socs running nougat , there seems to be phones with other components the same running nougat. So the ingredients are out, problem is cooking this into a working ROM would be a big job.
I recall when mm came out my HTC had a hacked together version that worked quite well, but the source for loli was out so there was a starting point.
Linage os would clearly be the place to start , find a mtek soc based ROM an hack I guess, beyond me , but someone who understands could prob work something
Not in a million years

I hope they release soon so we can get you a customized rom, because the original is leaving to be desired, its customization is very bad. Congratulations to all programmers who are interested in customizing a rom for our Z.
Looks like it won't be too long now till 7 beta ....

Yawn! Color me totally underwhelmed.
People have to keep in mind that devs need the official oreo to fix bugs and other stuff in oreo roms for our Potter. Some might not care and I get that, but we still need the stock oreo rom.

What's up with the kernel version? Sure, it's not the newest update at 3.18.71, though apparently this is to ensure Qualcomm and other driver providers can keep supporting the chips. I'm hoping that Treble can make this simpler for those devices with native Treble support...
Rebasing to a new kernel version during an upgrade is tricky. QCOM and other chipset vendors tend to stick with a particular kernel version for the lifetime of a chipset family, and just backport the desirable features and fixes. If we move the kernel "ahead" of our chipset vendor then they have a much harder time supporting us. Since we try to get the upgrades out as quickly as possible, we stay aligned with the chipset vendor's kernel as much a possible.
I suspect that Google will continue to pressure chipset vendors to keep their kernels up-to-date, so maybe we will see some changes in 2018. We will also ask Google to consider a kernel update as a "security update" rather than an a full-fledged upgrade. This removes a number of barriers to getting new kernels into the handsets of consumers as quickly as possible.

Is it treble enabled ??
I'm surprised that no one from Brazil has captured the OTA yet
That's really embressing that LG didn't make any solid statement and gave an ETA for Android 9 while others are already rolling out...
Someone have an internal info about ETA?

Theoretically it will be released in January or February but nothing confirmed from LG. It probably takes so much time because Android 8.0 treble support is not as good as 8.1 so they have to rework it.
Here we go guys, Some manufacturers already showed their roadmap to android 10 (nokia, one plus etc) today.
Im creating this topic to discuss the Update Release for our Phone, so we dont have multiple threads for discussing it. News and things like that are welcome.
Android 10 will be released very soon for the Pixel.
Now let us pray that we are also going to receive it. And hopefully not like in 2023.

Maybe from Sony IFA can give us an answer later

But....

still nothing officially, but would be a shame a hi end device only receiving one major update.

I just ran into errors after starting to compile with make command.
i highly doubt we'll get Android 10 for the phone...
the phone is already 2 years old and between years 2-3 it will probably receive only security updates...and that will probably be every 3 months too.

Yep, and Official Android 10 binaries 5 posts above is just an illusion, you are completely right !
I'm hoping for a full Android 10 Sony branded update, but not holding it hope.
We've got AOSP support, but there's a lot of driver and codec deficiencies in that build, like losing aptX and H.264.
https: developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/supported-devices-and-functionality/current-platform-functionality-maintained
Hey Sony - please make a Difference and keep updating Devices to latest Android for (at least) 5 Years.
i'm sure that would also increase Sales !
