I'm playing GTA5 on my RN8Pro and the top right of my phone gets heated up.
COD, settings at high-high. Phone heats up but not blazingly hot. Still manageable

PUPG ect.
RN8pro gets warm but not more that the others. ?
cod, pubg, contest of champions, my phone gets heated up at top right too.
I bought this phone to play COD in highest settings.. not disappointed at all.
ARK (impressive at epic settings)
Dragon Ball Legends, CoD, NBA 2K20.
From "heavy" games i play only COD Mobile on it.
Graphics quality is set to low and fps is max.
I have COD joystick and buttons for it.
On those settings i haven't noticed any mention worthy heating up problems.
Given, i do have Nilliin scrub case on it but even without the case heating hasn't been an issue.
Could be from the fact that game graphics quality is on low or that I usually only play 5-6 matches max in a row.
Pubg and no issues with overheating
Honkai impact 3rd on max settings, lags a little bit in abyss.
Heats as much as my previous phone redmi 5a
I have a black 6GB , 128GB variant. I am playing PUBG at high graphics and it gets warm a bit, still adjustable. Playing PUBG in RN8PRO is like one hell of a kind feel. Redmi is awesome!

Definitely you must to try COD, search for the right controls & sensitivity setup and prepare to feel the power of Hg90T
send from an RMN8 Pro (xiaomi.eu Rom)
CoD , PUBG and Shadowgun Legends grafics at top more than 2h gaming sesions and the smartphone only a little warm just like another phone.

After the recent update i could say i was able to feel some heat only while playing games or some heavy usage.
I dont see any specific abnormal heating issues.
i'd like to say heating issue is not an issue on this phone. but very sure ppl will jump in and say they have this and it's bad, etc...
for me. i play games like Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor. no issues. no heat.
but i know that some actually complain of some heat after recording 4k video on the phone for a long time.
i've never had to record in 4K. never feel the need to. most devices can't play 4k anyway. my tv is only 1080 and my phone's only 2K (the honor 8 Pro)?!? but ya, ppl who do video editing might do that. then again, if they are into video editing, i doubt they'd be using a smartphone as recording device... so, in real world practical sense... i think it's a good phone. no heat issue.

i'm using the honor 8 Pro and i'd lie if i say there is no heat. there is when i use 4G and play games like MOBA. but usually, it's very, very little and at times it does get more only when the area has got poor reception.
is this phone "warmer" than other phones? no. if anything, i think it stays cooler than some phones I have used, including Samsung Note 2 and Note 7 or even the OnePlus One.
it does not get terribly warm or anything like that. i don't use 4K recording. so, not sure how warm the phone gets.
hope that answers your Q.

It will not heat in regular browsing and gaming.
Extended usage of camera beyond 15 or 20 minutes can make it warm and not heat.
I played real racing 3 for about half an hour and it didn't heat up at all.
The thing is people don't know the difference between heat and warm.
A device will get warm of extended usage and under extensive load. More so, if it's made of metal.

Seen that many times. People will say it's heating though it is just lukewarm.
I too had a oneplus 3. I did tons of review hunting and finally settled for Honor 8 pro. Been a month now almost, i can say i m impressed with the device. Good luck to u!!
If you have One Plus 3. You SHOULD'NT waste your money on Honor 8 Pro.
Trust me! There is ZERO difference in performance in day to day usage.
may be 10% better in Benchmarks.
Games actually perform better in OPO3 due do having an Adreno gpu and HD resolution.
Camera benefits from having more details due to 16 MP.
Battery full charge in 40 odd minutes compared to 2 hours plus on Honor 8 Pro.
H265 10 BIT HARDWARE DECODING in SD 820 compared to NADA in Kirin 960 (In short, h265 10 bit videos don't play).
So unless you're desperate for a card slot or IR blaster, there's little to NO reason for you to get Honor 8 Pro.

- Kirin 960 performs better than sd820 on op3 and some benchmarks shows it performs about the same as sd835.
- About the gpu yes, adreno a bit better. But dont worry, because later on oreo update u can change res to 1080p or 720p, so gaming performance will improve.
- Nicest design for honor 8 pro.
- Camera a lot better in honor 8 pro, bokeh effects, more details even its just 12mp compare to 16mp op3. Camera on op3 are noisy, check the comparison on website.
- Nice 2k screen on honor 8 pro.
- Battery a lot better than op3.
So apart from sd card slot and ir blaster, theres a lot things better in honor 8 pro.

My young brother owns op3. Honor 8 pro camera wins all the way. The overall quality, dynamic range, contrast, sharpening, white balance, color accurate, low noise picture all wins on honor 8 pro side. Low lights picture also better than op3. Compare it with op3, pixel peeping shows op3 has some grainier and noisy photo, even my brother agrees with it. Oh did u try the wide aperture mode? Results are really nice. About the media format, u can always install mx player from play store. Sure battery charging a bit slow because of the big 4000mah capacity, but I dont mind that as it last longer in moderate usage.
Well everyone has their own opinion anyway, so heres mine. Chill.
As for me, yes, dont buy the honor 8 pro yet because honor v10 is coming out next month. Better wait for it, a lot improvement than honor 8 pro with the same price tag.

I only specifically mentioned about details in pictures due to having more mega pixel. No cure for that.
And I am talking about MX player only. Please try playing H265 10 bit file on it with a Honor 8 Pro.
Then do the same with Oneplus 3. You'll be surprised! One of them WONT play. One of them will play silky smooth.
Also see in settings/decoder which of the formats are hardware accelerated in both.
Kirin 960 might be raw power (Only CPU). But Snapdragon is like super refined and overall well rounded.
Performance wise no real world difference. It would be total waste to upgrade.
I am not giving my opinion but simply stating the facts as I've experienced; to help the OP make wise decision.
Hey all..
Anyone experiencing thermal Throttling while playing games for a long period? I play long hours of pubg and mobile legends on my pixel 3 xl and after 20 mins, the phone crawls to a very low fps (under 30 for sure). Using a mobile phone attachment gamepad with cooling fans eliminates this problem
I live in tropical country, where the weather is around 28-35C. My previous phones, including pixel 2 xl, sometimes experiencing this but not as pronounced.
Is there anyway to ease up on the throttling by flashing custom kernels?
No one?

I usually dont play on mobile games, recently i installed assassin's creeds rebellion, on the phone and it runs smoothly without any cpu throttling
Yes, some custom kernels have different values in where thermal throttling kicks in. I remember there was also a Magisk mod that does the same. If you don't want to go that route you could always opt for playing with voltages and lowering clock speeds (probably not the most ideal solution). If you are hardcore you could take the phone apart and change out the thermal compound that would definitely help. Honestly is there a reason why if you already have a working solution with the gamepad that has fans? Do you have prolonged gaming sessions when you're out and about and don't want to use the attachment? If no I wouldn't bother doing anything I mentioned and just stay as is!
Sold my not pink pixel 3 xl at the same price as I got it lol. Bought one clearly white, same throttling... So it's definitely not a defect.
Problem with the cooling gamepad is that it's too bulky and not convenient to bring everywhere..
So sad.. Pixel 2 xl was definitely better in sustained performance

Sadly it's just how the heat dissipation will be by design. The Pixel 2 has better heat dissipation since the body is made of metal vs glass so it has the advantage there already. Google could rectify this by using better thermal paste or even adding say a graphite cooling pad in there to help heat dispersion. If you're into hardcore mobile gaming and it's your main passion I would say go get the Asus ROG phone. Or stay with what you have and unfortunately just deal with decreased performance until you can sit around with the attachment .
Hey
I just wanted to know if am i the only one facing utter framedrops after every 2 sec even on smooth graphics and extreme fps?
Is there any fix for that or the game is not optimised?
I have also tried gfx tool but no luck. Even the Pubg from galaxy store is giving ridiculous framedrops and choppy gameplay.
I play all maxed without any frame drops on my s10e. Maybe messing with gltools isnt the best idea
@op Had the same issue when I tried playing pubg on my S10+ last month. Found out that turning off dolby atmos and using wired headphones instead of bluetooth buds helped reduce framedrops. But the gameplay wasn't smooth still! Thankfully after the latest S10+ firmware update (may) the game runs smooth on high settings without much heating even after 40 minutes of gaming. I'm not sure if the game was optimized for exynos S10 (received update from tencent too) or Samsung did something to improve it in the last update, butI have no issues playing pubg on my S10+ now!
Just trying to play Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Snapdragon 860 Xiaomi Pad and I notice fps drops on 1x and 4x. Try every setting, nothing changes. Even Gpu usage is only half.
Then I enabled fps counter and whenever it hits 30 C max it throttles to super low fps and doesn't go any bit higher. Explains the stutters I had in other Games.
30 C is nothing, feels like a scam, it runs like a low-end device.
Is there any fix? Any tutorial that works? With root or so? Just 35 C would be enough, It’s just 10 C here too. If not don’t buy Xiaomi for games, it’s not playable at all! It’s like a bad joke.

Sucks man, surprised no ones talking about this. The device is easily strong enough for 3DS and even some Switch games, but with this maybe it can't even do some older emulators smoothly, will do some more testing.
So here is the Video:
Flickering is due to the video recording only, but you can still see that it runs fine until the temp hits 30c, then it becomes very slow. You can see the graphic turn orange.
hopefully a developer can port a kernel of the xiaomi x3 pro that they share the same soc and all these problems can be solved, since I bought it for emulation and it does not work smooth as silk
I hope so! But I found a fix for this problem at least, you have to use Citra, not Citra MMJ, there seems to be a problem with that version. In normal Citra it runs at 60 fps at over 35 C but it still has some frame drops from time to time.

I have Poco X3 Pro... it does have thermal throttling also... but I managed to get rid of throttling by flashing a HAVOC OS custom rom...
MIUI is known for throttling SOCs...

Google Tensor SoC And Pixel 6 Benchmarks Show Google’s Intentions For Building Its Own SoC
Senior Analyst, Mobility & VR, Anshel Sag, dives deeper as Google claimed that nobody in the market was creating chips that satisfied Google’s needs for AI performance, so they created their own and I’ve had an opportunity to test the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro’s tensor SoC.
www.forbes.com
"As you can sort of tell from the graph, the Pixel 6 Pro throttled its GPU performance by over 50% at 58.3% while the Pixel 6 throttled at a more moderate 45%. The other Snapdragon 888 devices throttled anywhere from 24 to 36%. However, the Pixel 5 only throttled by 0.7% and the Redmagic 6S Pro with its active cooling only throttled an equally impressive 1%. To me, this means that Google’s GPU performance, while initially impressive, does have issues with longer term use and isn’t really viable for anything other than limited bursty GPU workloads. This means that gaming performance on the Pixel 6 Pro is worse than most of the flagship phones and the Pixel 6 is roughly on par."

I really struggle to find the perfect overall android phone, I realllly don't wanna move to an iPhone but there a solid solid phone, hopefully Google can fix these issues, I really wanna like this phone.
Google will probably fix the throttling issues by lowering coreclocks all together, but in the end Tensor is probably just not good enough in terms of efficiency/temps to satisfy a hardcore/gaming user.
I'm afraid the P6 comes as close to the perfect overall android phone as it can get, even though it still lacks in some departments. There might be some alternatives in terms of pure gaming performance, but they will lack in other departments, meaning overall they will (aswell) not satisfy.

Yeah its bad, also the touch sensitivity is way off. For me it feels like playing a new game even though i have played since season 1.
