Contacts to display - Samsung Galaxy A50 Questions & Answers

Hello to all!
I have moved from LG G3 to A50. There was feature i loved on LG that i cannot find on A50. I have my contacts in several groups. I don't always want all contacts to be displayed, for instance i don't want to view my business contacts on my private phone. LG had "contacts to display" in Contact settings, but on A50 i don't have that option. Maybe I want to display two or three groups, but disable all rest. Is this possible?

All People - not showing ALL people

By default, all of my gmail contacts synced to the phone were under the "Friends" category and all showed up under the ALL category.
However, the moment I change the category on a contact, it no longer shows up under ALL. Consequently, if I change the contact to be under no category, the contact disappears altogether.
Is this a bug ? If so, any workaround ?
Hmm, some more info.
Went into gmail, and all of the contacts missing from ALL were no longer in the "My Contacts" group. Now this group cannot be added to manually, but simply adding a contact to another group automatically adds it to this group also.
So the workaround for me was to add all of the missing contacts to a new group (made up) and then immediately remove them again. Sync this to the phone, and they now show up correctly in ALL.
Sounds like a bug with changes on the phone removing the contact from the "My Contacts" group. Anywhere this can be raised as a bug to have fixed ?
I'm having all sorts of issues with contacts. For one the people app refuses to remember the settings to also show facebook contacts. Because for some reason they think some of my contacts are in fact facebook contacts and they don't show up anymore under gmail.
Really seems like a total mess to me : (
Guess it will take some time to figure out what is what with all the linking and things going on.
You are not alone by any means. Both my mate and I are are having similar problems.
You are right that all contacts get download to the phone correctly and show up under "All" as you'd expect but when you add them to another group, i.e. Friends, they do get added to the group but disappear from "All". Remove them from the group and they disappear altogether. However, they are still on the phone as you can find them through the "Search People" app.
I went online to my Google contacts, at contacts.google.com, and found these contacts had been removed from the "My Contacts" folder but appeared instead in "All Contacts". I moved them back to "My Contacts" and they reappeared on my phone.
Surely if you add a contact to a group it should still appear under "All" contacts as well as the group it's been added to?
Workaround??
Been looking into this a bit more....
It seems that you can add contacts to the default groups on the phone but they will be removed from the "All" contacts list [BUG??!! - I'm sure my wife's Hero doesn't do this]. To get them back, and appear in both the group/s and the "All" list, you have to:
1. Login to Google Contacts Manager, www.google.com/contacts.
2. Remove these contacts from My Contacts. They will go to All Contacts.
3. Sync the contacts on the phone.
4. In Google Contacts Manager, move the contacts back to My Contacts.
5. Re-sync the contacts on the phone.
...a real PITA but it just worked for me.
Alternatively, you can control the Groups directly online in the Google Contacts Manager however this only works for new groups or groups that co-exist by default. Some groups on the phone do not directly correspond with those in the Manager and vice versa so if you add a new group to the Manager of a name that already exists on the phone you'll get a duplicate group on the phone.
The kicker is that if you create your own groups on the phone or in the Contacts Manager then everything works without a hitch.

Contacts -> All... They aren't al there

Hello,
When I go to my contacts and select the tab "All", well, my contacts aren't all there! I can only see them all browsing by group.
Have you got the same issue?
Are you using Google contacts? I sometimes experience this when a new contact has not been added to the "My Contacts" group. I don't know why, but you may want to check to see if that is the cause.
I'm using Google contacts indeed.
My Wife for example appears in Family and in Starred contacts but not in "All".
Assuming it's the same problem I faced, if you go to the Google Contacts website (Google's url followed by /contacts) you should be able to see your contacts in "All contacts", and then add them to "My contacts". Once your phone syncs they should appear in your phone's contact list.
That was it! Thank You

[Q] contacts grouping

I keep all my contacts as Google (no phone or SIM contacts). I have grouped them as usual : friends, colleagues, etc.
When I add a new contact through the phone, I see no way of saving it to a particular group. Of course, I can do it after in Gmail.
But I feel it should be possible to manage groups on the phone too, as even basic phones do that.
I am missing something?

[Q] Phone App vs. Contacts App Inconsistencies

On my LGOG, there are two apps, Phone and Contacts. In Contacts, I can use the Display option to expand the categories of contacts that are shown and I have set it to show the maximum number of contacts possible. However, in the Phone (i.e., Dialer) app, I am unable to pull up certain names under the Phone app's Contact tab (not to be confused with the separate Contact app). These names freely show in the Contacts app, but are missing from Phone. I cannot find any Display settings in the Phone app. The Contacts tab display in the Phone App says "Phone Numbers > Custom" at the top, but I cannot figure out how to change the "Custom" display.
Does anyone know how to change what contacts are displayed in the Phone (not Contacts) app?
Also, in the Phone app, the Favorites tab displays my contacts as large icons/tiles. Is there any way to make them show up in list view? Again, I see these settings in the Contacts app but not the Phone app. Very frustrating!
Thanks for your help.

Contact listing inconsistent in Groups
I have an HTC HD2. When using a MIUI ROM the contacts are listed pic then name on a single line, same in looking in Groups. When using Jellybean or ICS ROM the contacts are listed name then pic but in the Groups (when looking at contacts) they are listed two pics and names per line. Is there anyway to make the contacts in Groups as single line entries per name ? If not, could that be something to be worked on in future updates ?

Sony messaging stock app - displaying full contacts list

Hi guys, anyone here using the standard Sony messaging app ... when you go to "add recipient" (by pressing the three dots ...) to bring up your contacts list, is there any way that I can display only phone numbers?
It is showing every single contact including email addresses and duplicate numbers all on their own separate line. This is really annoying if I want to browse my contacts list, because it is so damn long! Like 400 items to scroll through!
When i go into my contacts via the phone/calling app, it has a bunch of options to "filter" by phone numbers but does not affect how the messaging app displays the contacts.
Anyone else get this issue?
