Hi!
I'm looking to purchase this device soon but i would like to know if it can be rooted as usual with the other phones I've used (Check signature) AND if they're will be any Android 10 ROMs for it... I dislike the MIUI skin and would like to flash something like Viper or havoc for daily use... How would yall advise me on this...
Much thanks.
The phone can be rooted, like any other phone, i would like too to know if there will be customs roms for this phone, as its the only thing that i want to know before buying it.
don't even waste time with any mediatek devices for rooting, customs, longer updates from brand, longer support from xda community bringing android 11, 12, 13... , gcam, etc. etc.
buy redmi note 8 to save money or go to mi 9lite/9T
lesson learned with Redmi Note 2
and I found mtk devices like RN3, RN4, R Pro, Redmi 6 have almost inexistent support from xda.

Don't listen to this guy he doesn't know that redmi note 8 pro already got twrp, orange fox, pitch black and last but not the least gcam dedicated and this is all yet the foreign devs haven't received the device so wait for 1 month then roms will also gonna come!???
it is not hard to understand based on the historic of every mediatek devices in xda compared to even less popular snapdragon devices.. search the forum of 2014's redmi 1s and then recently RN4 and R6
most good devs are more than accostumed to code customs (even future android versions) and gcam for snapdragon devices because of it's maximum effectiveness in every aspects, also gcam mod is compatible to almost every androids without requiring the hard working, like Plug and Play.
and about mediatek devices.. even with source released like RN8 Pro did, requires a lot of patience, unoptimized and lack of drivers for future android version, good devs won't be here forever to code complicated phones for us and will move another phone that make their live easier, patience and knowledge of devs are not infinite,
you all can be happy with the wyroczen's work.. for now. but it's android 9 and older gcam, it was announced android 10 and he will have to fully rework the gcam.. if he wish.
btw rn8 launched later, got custom roms and kernel and it sold less, less popular than rn8 pro....
I'd give at least 6 months to start to see this reality, not hard to think how snapdragon and mediatek work.

Lol u just saying that it has roms released this much late means no devs interested in that despite having Snapdragon so think if it was the pro with Snapdragon we have already got roms.
Btw , fyj for your information this is the first device which is released mtk worldwide so this is the first device to get official roms like Cesium os and maybe Evolution and Resurrection later this month:angel:

Yeah… I cringe everytime.
-Apparently DEVs / people can't properly recover/unbrick the RN8Pro, as it's featuring a MediaTek SoC.
Sure baffling for 2020 expectations.
-Also apparently this could've been a non issue as it's tied with acc. permissions.
Also pretty baffling.
Im not sure who's to blame here.
It is what it is, I guess.
My Mi Note 8 Pro has been unlocked (boot-loader) and TWRP installed.
Tried a few Treble builds but none of them is perfect.
Will hold on for now.

If you want many roms then not this one mate. It's been out nearly 6mths an hardly any that work easily. It's not snapdragon it's mediatek. Hardly any roms for it. I've tried 5 or 6 an all failed.
Can be rooted an modded but hard with roms

Yeah mate i got the device a few months back and i'm regretting the purchase to be honest. I actually tested all the ROMs out right now and none of them are fully functional. And plus development seems to be problematic due to one reason or another. I'm thinking i'll get rid of it very soon.
Yep, not the best custom Rom - phone so far but the lineageos Rom is pretty good. But it doesn't change much if you want more to hop on. I wouldn't buy this phone again that's for sure but at least we have a few roms. It's a shame that most of the roms are also comes already with gapps. Anyhow, if you want/NEED custom roms don't buy this phone!

How about all the GSI ROMs? Havoc 2.9 was perfect for me, only reason I didn't stick with it was because of poor stock camera support. Now that Wyroczen's gcam port is comparable, I was thinking about switching to it, just need to work on making a proper overlay. Might want to try before selling.

Honor 8 Pro is indeed a beast but this company is not for ROM development or atleast this phone.
Stop trying to Degrade/Root or anything else than updating through the stable channel. I have myself destroyed the device multiple times, although I did not hard bricked it, thanks to the almighty and was able to recover phone with that good old download folder method, but still, don't try anything with this device, use it if you have one and if you can't live for a day without root (there is no point rooting this device anyway, most modules won't work and the development is ceased anyways) sell it and get something that has developer support, OnePlus for instance.
OpenKirin ROMs are good. I am using OmniROM Pie Alpha 2 and it is great!!!!! It has all goodies (Pie + Honor Camera + no junk etc etc).
To be honest, it is always work in progress and thanks to developers (OldDroid and team), they are still coming up with best possible , stable ROMs for this beast!
It always depends on what you are looking out for!:good:

I have a Honor 8 Pro. 8.0.0 android and 8.0.0 EMUI
Model: DUK-L09
I have never rooted a phone before. The only thing I want to root it because it dose NOT recognize xbox360 controller with OTG cable which is ridiculous. Could you recommand me something ?
I have owned many Honor phones, and you're totally right.
The decision of not providing bootloader codes is somewhat good when it comes to this.
Is there any expert programmer who can make ported stock rom pie from samsung a720s official firmware, for a520f and a720f?
The hardware of the a720s is the same as the a720f, it's just a matter of who has the time, knowledge and willto make. Because we all want 9 on our phones. .

A8 and a720s are not the same.A8 has Exynos 7885 and a720s Exynos 7880.A8 has 4gb ram, while a720s has 3gb ram.A8 has Mali-G71 GPU while a720s carries Mali-T830MP3.Hardware a720s is identical to a720f.A8 is not nearly as similar in hardware, which is one of the reasons why the Hades rom doesn't work completely without bugs, as much as the programmer tried. After a few days, it slows down. That's why the programmer gave up further updates and closed the thread. I ask, do any of the programmers know how to port rom from a720s for a520f and a720f?
Relax, eventually we will get something
Guys really, you are just so dumb. Having developers around like Corsi or Option58 is a dream for a big part of the XDA community. Imagine that no one is developing for Ax 2017, with what you eventually end? Stock oreo ROM and only it. No Lineage, no Pie, nothing.
Just wanted to remind you that everything related to AOSP is possible thanks to RaymanFX, and you pissed him off a long time ago. I'm ashamed about that part of the community, OP, think a while, just think. Are you sure that you have more knowledge than people making such things? I bet that you ever can't compile LineageOS from sources with a tutorial.
I sorry so much for Corsicanu, he spent an enormous amount of time to deliver you butter smooth stock roms, make the stable pie even possible, release professional kernel and the only thing he received for that is complaining and calling him stupid.
I'm less and less frequent here, thank you to all active or inactive developers for keeping this phone alive, I wish the best for you and remember, you are doing such a great job and there are still people who appreciate it.
Regards.
@Alchajmer
1. we have an android 9 port already
2. if you don't like them (I guess you do else you wouldn't open this thread) then feel free to port your own android 9 rom. if you don't know how then search on xda. there a plenty of guides about porting roms.
3 finally read this post please. I hope this will change your opinion about porting A720S to our devices.
And no the progammer did not close his thread because of the A8 port is "slowing down" the performance, he closed it because a lot of people requested (and even keep requesting) an A720s pie based port in his thread (check last posts) like you did here.
Did corsicanu confirmed that a720s rom cant be ported to a520/a720f or you guys are just guessing?
Let the man work when he has time thats it...
Hades rom works fantastic on my a520f. For all his honor. But after a few days everything slows down. Why? I don't know. It's like he's running out of memory. For example, the calculator needs a second or two. So I asked if there was a minimum chance of porting rom to the a520 / 720f from the A720s. I'm not a programmer, but I've been using custom roms for a long time to know if the phones match the hardware, there's a chance for porting. I'm not saying that it has to be tomorrow, but when the developer has time

Will there even be Custom Roms for Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro???
I really don't like MIUI and the only reason i want this phone is because i wish to install a custom rom to it. My favorite being Resurrection Remix but at this point, LineageOS would be fine too.
Any information on the matter?
Is there any rom even being developed for this?

this happened over 2 months ago and yet there is nothing. "need for testing" hmm okay.
Is it because of the Mediatek chip and them not sharing code?
It seems like there will not be any stable enough custom roms for this phone even tho it was realeased 4 months ago, there is still nothing.
Makes me a bit sad. So great specifications but no custom roms. Damn Mediatek! [if its their fault]
@zaiross At the moment, the main problem is a bug that results in hard brick which can only be recovered by a service centre that has an account authorized to flash in EDL mode (the lowest level of service/flash protocol, even lower than Fastboot). So no development because if a ROM Dev causes the hard brick, they have to pay a fee to service centre to get reflash using EDL.
Also does not help that MediaTek seem not interested in the smaller development community. MediaTek have said they are not interested in a similar partnership with the Linux Code Aurora community that Qualcomm works with. It's a pity they're not interested as I believe it would help increase popularity of MTK chips and increase sales over time.
a programmer could modify sp flash tool so it would bypass asking for authorized account. that would be worth to achieve smth for long time than paying services for bricks
I said this before and I'm going to say it again, you will likely not see any further development for this device in the foreseeable future. Sure POSP is stuck on testing but do any one of you honestly see anyone contributing to testing when they will most likely brick the phone during the process?
This is a dead phone. Some of us have sold it and moved on. I will follow suit soon. I recommend you do too.

thank you, I said the same thing month and half ago and nobody listened me.
mediatek is just a waste of time for any development: customs and gcam
move on and buy Redmi Note 8 or Mi9 Lite or Mi 9T, they do have too many developments and working gcam without need of hard working like wyroczen, and nobody will waste money or dismount for unbricking.
Hey brick problem isn't Mediatek's fault...
I get many smartphone with Mediatek's.
All of them were unbrickable...
On every others, you failed your installation, you opened SP Flashtool and reinstalled the previous Rom.
No code were needed.
If you really do a crappy work, you had to reinstall IMEI in addition...that's all.
But hardbrick was totally impossible on any other Mediatek's device I used.
Then comes the problem of developpers...maybe they had to change their mind...yes maybe it's harder...yes maybe they will have less help...
But the other chipmaker's behavior is too dangerous to keep this situation.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T seems nice enough.. It has Qualcomm chip in it. Should people with Pro switch to that for example? Or perhaps Xiaomi Redmi K30, Realme X2 or Oppo K5 ....
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro seems great because of specs but MIUI really sucks ass, and like ariber14, i too bought this phone in belief of getting a custom rom to it sooner or later. :/

I agree with @RenatoNismo and @Helhound0. It's a shame because the Redmi Note 8 Pro is so powerful and a great value proposition, but it's so easy to brick, and Custom ROM development is looking so unlikely now, that it's a real deal-breaker for me.
@RenatoNismo and @Helhound0, which phone do you plan to buy next? The MI 9 Lite and Redmi Note 8 both have Custom ROMS already, and look like good value propositions too, but I'm a bit discouraged by the fact that either of them are going to feel like a "downgrade", now that I've experienced the Redmi Note 8 Pro (i.e. they have weaker chipsets, and in the case of the MI 9 Lite, I'm worried about burn-in unless I really "babysit" it and use low brightness).
Do either of you feel like you would be conceding/downgrading by choosing one of these phones, or is the freedom, flexibility and Custom ROM-friendliness of these phones "worth it" to you?
I would have also considered the Realme 5 Pro or Realme X2, but at the moment, it seems to be impossible to unlock the bootloader for European devices, which of course, makes them not an option for Custom ROMS either.
I am still using Redmi Note 2, my next phone will be Snapdragon only, no more bullsh* of development like customs, gcam, bootloader and xiaomi.eu etc. etc.
in 2015 Helio X10 was promising like G90T was at the launch date, as always like the whole story of every mediatek devices, RN2 was enough for me to learn lesson, but it's good for daily use, even without customs neither gcam which I need, I could waited for months and paid more money for redmi note 3 pro, it's still being developed.
my gf's Redmi 5 is 2 years old cheapest, is being updated and has gcam night sight working better than rn8pro

I just got my OnePlus 5T working so I'll be using that as my daily and my Moto X4 for music. I'll probably keep this until next July and sell it so i can pool in some cash from my bonus and get whatever the flagship OnePlus out at that point. But if i was to make a purchase now, I'll probably avoid XIAOMI altogether. I've been looking into the ROG phone 2 specially since it's not expensive comparing to some other flagships. I'll probably go for that.

I am thinking of getting the Poco F3, but I would not want to use MIUI and would prefer to use a custom rom.
I watched this video and don't know if what this guy is saying is true or not.
Would it be worth buying this phone if I am only going to be using a custom ROMs, or should I pay more for a phone that has better software by Oneplus, Samsung etc...?
I've used custom ROMs in the past, but it was mainly because my old phone no longer received support. I am on Lineage OS on my Oneplus 5t.
Thanks!
I picked up the Poco F3 BECAUSE there were custom ROMS and there are a few that are already really good so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I may even buy another one and sell my 512GB S21 Ultra. (Update, bought another F3) Don't pay attention to that guy on Youtube, do what you want to do.

Yeah I totally agree. This device is cheap and has all the qualities of a flagship killer. All the devs are interested in it and are buying it to develop for it. So in the future expect to get a ton of Custom Roms and Mods for F3.
You cant go wrong with this device.
Period
Yeah i agree.
Totally agree . I recently picked up one after selling my 3A only for custom rom. I hate MIUI and have already initiated steps to unlock the bootloader to flash custom rom.
I had an redmi 7A and when i saw the bloatware on miui my eyes popped out Jesus Christ.
Not to mention to root the stock rom you need to patch the boot.img specially for this phone and to mention it was 32bit rom on a 64bit CPU arghhh!!!!!
I only bought this device because it had superb hardware for the price and I could flash custom ROMs.
I believe in the community of the custom ROMs and think it is a great deal, I was thinking of getting some oneplus or even Nokia phones but I realized it is one of the best that we could get so enjoy flashing
Why would you even go towards Nokia..? Oneplus i get it but Nokia...

because I really like the stock feel, and Nokia is driven with an android one.
Hey mate, just flash my F3 right after one week of waiting for bootloader.
Gona say YES, IT IS FREAKING WORTH IT.
Come from Galaxy S9, after so tired with the bloat of Samsung, I flashed LOS, and man it is fast.
But, with my F3 on ArrowOS, right now, it is insanely fast.
Just buy it, you will not regret. But it is my personal opinion. The choice is your.
Within the price range, F3 already deiminated all other option. But with custom ROM, it decimates even the flagship

Thanks!

Just buy it. Performance to price point, nothing wins Poco F3
The only downside is the MIUI that comes with it which is sluggish and buggy. I flashed mine to ArrowOS and loving the device more now.
Have sticked to MIUI 12 and upgraded to MIUI 12.5 where they removed multiple Do Not Disturb schedules, that is when i know is time for me to flash the rom
Ok just watched the video.
His logic makes no sense at all! According to him buying a windows pc and putting Linux on it would be equally stupid. And the "paid devs" are less likely to unleach the full potential of a device then the "unpaid devs" because of model postioning and other commercial conciderations. So... still glad I bought my F3 for the custom roms
just bought poco f3 and I can tell you the MIUI isn't so bad (12.5.3) it is super smooth and with lots of features and configuration in it (double tap to wake and sleep, double fingerprint for flashlight..) themes are also rich. The main weak point is camera app that is not as developed as gcam but... you can instal gcam ports (8.1) that already work very well!! So yes this phone is sort of perfect.
Hi people,
I am looking for a custom ROM for Poco F3 that has the following:
1. Allows you to hide apps from the app list; not just lock the apps. For now I use LineageOS and I use a separate launcher and AppHider
2. Ideally, comes without GApps or G services. I'd love to try GrapheneOS but it comes for Pixel devices only
3. Allows multiple instances of apps eg. Whatsup, etc. I have seen this in a custom ROM but dont remember which one
Also, why do all the threads about F3 refer to 11x and K40?
Any suggestions?
Thanks a l lot
John

Xiaomi = main brand
Mi, Poco, and Redmi = sub-brands
Mi focus on high end flagship phones, Poco focus on mid end performance phones. Redmi focus on lower end value for money phones
Mi 11x, Poco F3, and Redmi K40 are the same phone targeting different regions with different launch date.
Hello. Can I hope for some custom roms for this device later? I really enjoy custom roms but I don't like buy xiaomi phones again and found this phone in really good price! example redmi note 12 pro has same proccesor but it's more expensive and miui has some limitations among features.
Can I hope for custom rom or AT LEAST is samsung sharing kernel source of it's phones and is it possible to make one myself later after learning? I have some plans to learn android developement

You can learn to develop your own ROM.
Everything shared here on XDA is essentially a hobby. Developers work for free, and often focus most of their time and effort on devices they already have. The best way to get something ported to your particular device is to learn to do it yourself.
