128GB version launched in EU - ASUS ROG Phone II Guides, News, & Discussion

Apparently, Asus has officially introduced the 128GB edition all across Europe, under the "Strix" subbrand:
https://www.notebookcheck.com/Asus-ROG-Phone-II-Strix-und-Ultimate-Edition-Bis-zu-1-TByte-Speicher.443225.0.html
https://eshop.asus.com/de-DE/rog-phone/rog-phone-ii
Unforunately (if the specs sheet in Asus's eShop is accurate), the European 128GB version shares the exact same limitations as its Chinese (Tencent) and Indian counterparts:
No 802.11AD wifi,
only CAT16 LTE and 2x2 MIMO (vs CAT18 and 4x4),
no B20 (800MHz) LTE band.
The list of bundled accessories is richer though, (e.g. it includes the 30W PD charger, like its "big brother's"), which also shows in the MSRP: EUR 699.
If the lack of B20 is true, then basically the only advantages of buying the official 128GB version instead of an imported one are the warranty and the more capable charger. Do you think they are worth the (~170 EUR) price premium over the Tencent variant?

That 170EUR difference is probably also VAT included so yeah. Warranty is worth it IMO. But at 700 EUR we are getting closer to the 300 EUR more for the "big version". Depending on individual needs of course!

The Tencent variant is sold by eGlobalCentral (UK warehouse, VAT included ) at 532EUR. This is what I based the price comparison on, to make sure it is fair.
But even so, I agree that warranty is a strong motivation. And so are the global ROM OTA updates

It has B20

I am pretty sure it is just a typo (on the ES site)...
If you take a look at the German, French, Swedish, Czech, Polish, Hungarian (and possibly all the rest of the European) ASUS eShop sites, you'll notice, that none of them mention the presence of B20 for the Strix model.

32GB + LTE USA version

I'd like to buy this tablet in 32GB + LTE version but I saw that in Europe (and so in my country - Italy) this version will not be sold so I'm thinking to buy it via eBay in USA.
My friend bought the same version from the same seller and he told me that the tablet is perfect but has not italian language inside. But I don't understand how an official android stock rom has not a particular language. Do you know if it's true? And in that case, since I saw italian version and USA version have the same hw (snapdragon 800), is it possibile to flash the italian stock rom from sammobile? Could I have some problem in future with LTE? And is it region locked?
Sorry for too many questions but I'll spend about $600 so I want to be sure

There isn't and never will be "U.S. versions" of the P601/5. Eventually there will be carrier versions but they'll have MMS and the dialer disabled which is the way the U.S. carriers sell them. If you're considering a P601/5 from a U.S. seller on eBay it's been imported from another country. A lot of them are from Latin America. Any EU version of the P605 should have LTE bands that support Italy. You should make sure what LTE bands any P605 you're considering supports to ensure they are compatible with your specific carrier.
I asked the seller which product code has the tablet and I'm waiting for his answer. Meanwhile I saw sammobile firmware list and it seems there is another variant of this tablet SM-P605M that includes latin america countries. So it could be that model number. But if it's true, is it possible to flash a SM-P605 stock rom on a SM-P605M? Both should have the same hardware specs.

Unfortunately not, I think I heard that Digitec sends in other countries.
But you can have a look here toppreise.ch and check some companies.
But keep in mind, Switzerland is in Europe but not in the EU.
That means you need to pay tax and VAT. So it will be very expensive in the end.
If you live near the border it might be better to do a day trip or holiday weekend.
But then there is the problem with customs when you bring it back....

Nubia z11 Band 20 support

Hi guys
On GSMarena, the Nubia z11 has LTE Band 20 listed in the specs. When I want to buy the phone however, most websites do not list band 20. There seems to be an international version and a normal version.
Can somebody confirm this? Or is there no difference between the versions and can I just go for the cheapest reseller.
Additionally, is there anybody who has spotted the coffee gold version in the wild? I can't find any real-life pictures so I am really hesitant to buy it since I don't want to end up with a phone that is basically pink.
Yes there's an international version with band 20, and other for china I think without band 20.
After some research I can confirm your claim. There is indeed an international version with band 20. The colours of the international version however, seem to be limited to silver and grey so no coffee gold or black gold.

I can also confirm this. I own the Black/Gold 6GB RAM/64 GB ROM and I ordered it from this italian ebay reseller http://stores.ebay.de/Top-Reseller-Store-it-On-Line-Shop . LTE is working just fine here in Germany.

Thanks Mate but I already ordered and have it here in use ! The initial cost was ~600 € but I ordered it when eBay had this voucher from paypal to get 15% discount which saved almost 100 bucks so it was ok for me. And i defenitely wanted the Black/Gold version.
I really hope Nubia gets this Phone out in more countries and sells more units so the public interest in having ROMs is bigger and something happens here
I don't how the update policies and behavior od NUBIA but I guess it is rather bad as for my experience with chinese manufacturers (except HUAWEI as a positive example).
Looking on the highend hardware this phone has...it still is a tiny bit laggy on some occasions...but this is moaning on a high level

FYI for this thread: I just looked it up on the Tech Specs from nubia.com where it say: FDD LTE B1/3/5/7/8/20 .
@paomaz: I have Telekom SIM and they use B20 with 800Mhz in Cities. So yes to your question.
Maybe a stupid question but, since there is an international version, do you guys think it would be possible to flash the radio etc. from the international version on the versions without band 20 support?
I have a China version of Nubia Z11 white/grey. Unfortunatelly i did not know that Nubia has a chinese version. In nubia.com, you can see only 2 versions of nubia Z11 which are USA and Europe/Asia. Unfortunatelly Chinese version doesn't support band 20. It supports band 3 which is common in Turkey. But sometimes we need band 20, especially far from city centers.
Hello,
How can I see if my phone can work with the 800 MHz in band 20?

As i know there isn't a particular way to learn this. You can screenshot your "about phone scrren" and send it to [email protected] ask them what your phone version is. (USA / Europe or china) China version doesn't support band 20 like mine. You can test it yourself with LTE Discovery app. This app needs root acces to read the LTE band type. If you never see band 20 there, probably your phone doesn't support it. By the way, my phone doesn't support band 20 and it's 4G signal is much way weaker then the other phones. I get 1 bar 4G signal but Samsung gets 5 bars for example.
Nubia is really weak on LTE signal.
I have a euro version, i buy this phone in italy LTE 800 (b20) working ! Chinese version dosent have b20

Yes they sell mainly the P2c72, which is unfortunately with better hardware (64gb) than P2a42. It will work just fine in Europe, but in US the 4G frequency is different.

all ebay listings sell the chinese variant. I cannot believe there is no availability of the european model (p2a42) online.
I could easily buy the chinese variant and it will work for me for the time being here in Japan, but I wll not be living in Japan forever, when I return to my home country the phone will work only with gsm.... The european model has more compatibility with my home country bands
Check out SuperBuy.my
It is a Malaysian retailer that sells the P2A42 variant. They ship via DHL and many Australians on the Whirlpool forums have purchased there, including me.

Using HongKong S20+ in Europe: which things won't work.

Hi all,
I live in Europe and am planning to buy a Snapdragon S20+ from HongKong.
I've checked which network bands the HK phone supports and all bands I need are there.
Before placing the order I want to check with you guys if I have a clear picture of all limitations that come with buying a HK S20+ in Europe.
The list I compiled so far:
- No Samsung Pay (I don't care, won't use it)
- VOLTE may or may not work depending on your carrier (I don't care, I barely call and if I call I don't care about the quality)
- No warranty in Europe .
- Difference in timing of updates
Anything else I should take into account?

Carrier Aggregation may suffer, which will reduce download speeds. I have a Hong Kong variant, VoLTE, WiFi Calling and Samsung Pay work however I'm in the US, your results may vary as you mentioned depending on the carrier. Don't expect you can modify the CSC, you can't change it. Samkey doesn't support HK variants and OXM, which allows Preconfiguration changes for different European CSC's isn't embedded in the software. Updates have come in a timely fashion every month and there's no Carrier Branded Bloatware. Even though the device has some limitations I've been pleased with the HK variant, anything but Exynos!

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I'll go for the HK version then. Don't see any reason why I shouldn't.
Actually Samsung Pay should work in Europe flawlessly, only thing that won't work is rewards. To be more precise, rewards do work, but the rewards shown are the ones of the phone's original country...
As for the Samkey CSC change limitation, I remember reading a post here about a user that changed CSC from Taiwan to Hong Kong using Samkey...

Good to know. I'm currently not using or planning to use Samsung Pay but that might change in the future.
Regarding the CSC limations, I don't see any reason why I would need to change the CSC.
Reason why you may want to think twice is that in the event if you get unit with poor uniformity seller may not be willing to replace it as easily

I bought mine from T-Dimension. Just be sure to order from their .de or .co.uk site and you don't have to pay any customs. Cheeper then the Exynos version here in Sweden. Took about 2 weeks to get the phone. First they ship it from HK to their warehouse in UK then from there to me.

I have ordered the phone from WondaMobile.
They have the HongKong Snapdragon version for the same price as the Exynos in my country.
Also no customs are being charged as they will ship it from/via the UK.
I have ordered S20 ultra also from WondaMobile. I was on 6th of May and I'm hopping the delivery will not take to much time. I also hope I don't have to send it back because of broken camera glass or other issues which s20 ultra suffers...
Hello
My S20 Ultra comes to WondaMobile and is amazing (model 512/16GB)
Samsung Pay and Volte work perfectly.
Photos are fantastic.
I also have the Snapdragon version
Get it. I had the Exynos and it had a poor battery life plus other disadvantages

Yeah i'm thinking to buy one. But stil don't know which one. Chinese with global rom or Global at ZTE Shop.
Chinese with global rom is cheaper at Giztop, but there is a chance to get extra customs.
1. This phone is Chinese Edition, comes with Global version software installed(international ROM), includes Google Play Service.
2. This phone supports multi-language: English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Arabic, Russian and more.
3. This phone supports these network bands:
4G: FDD: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26/28; TDD: B34/38/39/40/41.
5G: n1/n3/n28/n41/n78
so no one has one? Mine supposed to arrive today
Chinese version with global rom comes with problems... I find it's MUCH slower to update (have to almost force it to) and can be a mother to root.
Older google apps abound and it doesn't want to update these, manually installing newer APK's seems to fail more times than not.
There can be bloatware that is (almost) impossible to uninstall.
Theme stores might not work without a Chinese number and you are stuck with some apps being only in Chinese with no English, or any other language, options.
Chinese phone might be a little cheaper but the Global variant will mean less headaches...
I have the Chinese Axon 20 and themes are especially a pain, the Theme store is geared for the Chinese and I find them all very cartoony, Forget about changing fonts as it uses theme store bought ones and again, not English. They ALL cost too. (Have to use Chinese currency)..
Forget about reading the changelog of a new Firmware, if you get updates, t took a few months with me checking and getting a "can't connect with server" error" before it finally updated, still a month or 2 behind in security patches though, though that may be normal.
All in all I wish I'd spent the few extra $$ on a Global variant but it wasn't available in my area at the time so got the Chinese one instead cos I'm an impatient little bugger.
Updating is a pain as you need to navigate Chinese only sites to find the firmware if you want to root or anything, a lot of these sites are hard to get things from, even with a VPN, and depending on the suppliers means of adding the Google apps, may not allow upgrading. This means having the stock firmware handy is nigh impossible if you have problems and is easier to end up with a brick...
Hope this helps you make up your mind.
To sum up, what you get is about all you can expect to work with (spent hour pulling my hair out trying to root a Chinese Axon 7 and ended up loosing all phone functionality), as long as you're happy to use without root, too much theme customisation problems with stock Android and hard to ignore apps you just can't get rid of. It may be worthwhile but in my opinion, get the Global version instead.
Got the Global Axon 30, much better experience and again, cost may only be up to $100 more but peace of mind is priceless...

Again, the phone bought Chinese version was the Axon 20, and it wasn't available in my region, not even through international postage and It was also unintentional (Seller had "Global ROM' in BIG letters but CN model in itty bitty letters).
The Axon 30 I got a true Global variant from ZTE direct, came with a screen protector and ZTE iMore buds. Funnily enough though the screen protector supplied by ZTE, the official tempered glass protector, had the camera cutout which I thought was an odd choice seeing as how the phone's most advertised selling point is the under display camera. That was a boner-headed move on their part but the phone is pretty good.
Got mine today. Pretty good. Do wish I could crank up the color though. The setting for color is limited.

I've had mine since last Friday and it's really good overall. But I have 2 issues so far with the screen off the tap to illuminate the fingerprint reader doesn't work, and the AOD doesn't work at all I turn it on and the screen stays black so I have to contact ZTE and see if its just my unit

thanks!
So from what I am seeing the G version is the USA/NA version and the one that is just A2322 is the China version. (was looking at a device for sale-had some Chinese characters in the settings and no "G"-OS version was slightly ahead or higher at 11.0.16)

I'm going for the Global model, but i want the 12GB/256GB model and it is still not avalible at the ZTE Global store.
I read that the phone doesn't have dual speakers. Is there a way to enable the ear speaker and use that for second speaker?
