Security Issue - Install Unknown App - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Have a question regarding my OnePlus 7t on Android 10. I've checked the settings in "Apps & notifications" in "Special app access" and my Dolphin browser app permissions for "Install unknown app". The settings under both sections are set to OFF or Disabled.
My question is why when I download an apk file app from my Dolphin browser and looked for the downloaded file in my Downloads using File Manager, then clicked on app to install, the app installed without prompting me to check for "install unknown app". The file installation only asked for storage permissions and then installed.
How do I keep this from happening? I don't want files installing without me specifically allowing "install unknown app" in settings.

From your description I would think it was actually the file namanger that installed the file, so you need to check its settings ...

Agree. That setting relates to the app you are launching the install from. Not the app you downloaded the apk from. I think you'll find if you download and launch direct from dolphin, with your current setting, the install will be blocked.

Yes, you're correct. If trying to install app from Dolphin browser when downloaded, the system will block the install and notify you to Disable Install Unknown App settings.
In my case, the file is downloaded and saved in Download folder on phones memory. When I click on file directly it will prompt me for Storage Permissions to install. I checked both Dolphin browser and Special permissions, and both are disabled for installing from Unknown App.
There is no permissions settings for Storage to disable install from Unknown app.
How can I block install of any app from Downloads folder.

How to install a file manager from sdcard using internet browser

How to install file manager from sdcard using the internet browser.
Just in case your rom doesn't have a built in file manager, here's how to install a file manager without having to download it from the play store.
1. Put a file manager apk in the main directory your sdcard. You may want to rename it to something very short for easy typing. In this example, I will use "fm.apk".
2. Boot your device. Goto Security Settings and check "Unknown Sources".
3. Open your internet browser. In the address bar type "file:///sdcard/fm.apk". Press "Go".
That's it! Installation started!
Please click thanks if this helped you.
This is amazing, I wish I could thank you but I can't cuz I'm a noob
you're welcome
Thanks so much for sharing this!
I was Googling for a method to install titanium backup on my tablet BEFORE setting up my Google accounts but I did not have a file manager preinstalled on the rom I was using. My search for a method to use the terminal led me to find this thread as I was also searching for a free file manager API I could install.
Problem solved! (And syntax of that command is now committed to Memory)
Great thread - for any android power user...
thank you so so so much.

Almost all of us suffering from Google's new security system which prevents apps installation in other user accounts than Primary. Think you paid for many apps, yet you can't install those apps in your other user accounts. If you are on Custom Rom, you can install apps in all users as most of custom roms allow it. 4. Cut folder named "com.estrongs.android.pop-1" and paste it to "device/system/priv-app/here" and fix permissions to "drwxr-xr-x" (It is important to make "ES File Explorer" a system app. Now it will show in all user accounts app drawer.)
4.1 Restart Device.
5. Open SuperSu app from app drawer in Primary Account.
6. Enable Multi User in SuperSu Settings..

Set default download location to download folder in external SD card

How can I set my default download location the the external SD card for the files downloaded from Google Chrome? I don't like to keep transferring files from internal memory to my sd especially if they're bigger files. I have my bootloader unlocked and running paulpizz rom
Chrome doesn't give you an option, and I'm not sure what the easiest workaround would be.
But I recently switched from Chrome to Samsung's internet app. The updated version of it gives you ad blocking support AND it lets you choose your default download location.

Thanks. I may just use that
If you don't want to change browsers you could use Tasker App to auto move the files to the external sd card location later.
Or you could try using/setting ES File Explorer as default download manager and telling chrome to us it. Then set the download path in ES File Explorer.
Also one could switch to Firefox:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1028808
First, you need to know the folder path you want to use. An app like ES File Explorer File Manager will be helpful if you do not have a file manager.
(1) Open a new tab to about:config (type about:config in the Awesomebar and tap the go arrow or tap Enter).
You may want to bookmark this for easier future access.
(2) In the search box, type down and tap Enter
(3) Scroll down to browser.download.folderList and tap Modify, then change the value from 1 to 2 (from "default always" to "last used folder"). The change should appear after a few seconds.
(3) Scroll back up and tap the large "+" button to the left of the search box to add a new setting
(A) The name of the preference should be browser.download.dir (this stores the last used directory)
(B) On the right side, tap Boolean and in the popup change it to String
(C) The value depends on the folder you want. For example:
/sdcard/FxDown (D) Then click Create (if you are too slow, it may clear and you might have to start again)
If you switch back to your other tab and download something, it should go to the new folder.

It may be possible to create a symbolic link? You can do this in terminal and I think MiXplorer can also do it
I think xposed has a module you can use to do this

try using redirect file organizer from Google play store. Best way to organize your files while downloading in one place. I love it

Change built-in file manager?

I would like to change default file manager but it seems that some links to it are hardcoded in LOS so for example if i uninstall it and replace it with fx file manager some
apps can't access it because they are calling to that default one which is not there anymore.
Any tips on how can i replace it, or where can i change those links to default app?
The default file manager that you were using has the package name "com.android.documentsui", and you generally see it when you have to choose a file for an app. Only here has it been turned into a full-fledged file manager. That was a system app that you weren't supposed to remove, so your only option is to install another file manager app alongside the default one.
Hi i'm with the same problem, i need a default file manger that can accese root so other app can get accese to root folder. Is there a way to resolve?
Here is how to replace the stock file explore with the root accessable one.
I'm gonna priovide the best filemanager fully featured, called mixplore, which i highly recommend. this file manager can access root directory.
watch Mixplore review from HERE
NB: make sure you have a root access
1. download Mixplore
2. install it on your device then open it
3. on the left then click on "root" then grant root permission when prompted
4. go into system/apps/documentUi OR system/apps/cmfilemanager
OR system/apps/files. If your on other roms apart from cynogenmod, lineageOs or RR-Os.. go into system/apps/filemanger
in case not found in app forlder try priv-app, i.e system/apps/..
NB: not "document" its "documentUi"
5. open the that last folder on the directory i.e file manager, swipe right and go into downloads copy the Mixplore.apk, then swipe left back into root/system/app/___ and paste the mixplore and delete the stock filemager from that folder
6. restart the phone.. now you have replaced the stock file explore from your android.
ppllzz help meee mi a1
i uninstalled the system file manager and now can't reinstall it and com.andeoid.documentsui keeps stopping and after installing app getting the problem files keeps stopping

This method creates problem when trying to access sd card or otg, mixplorer ,though fully featured, will also need permission from documentsui to access externals,it will show error "doesn't exist x
Best way is disable documents ui from showing icon in launcher

How to delete apps manually ?

Greetings,
I've a problem un-installing Telegram, so, i've installed interop tools and unlocked system files hoping that i can delete telegram manually but i couldn't.
So, can any one help me with this ? locating "Telegram/any" app files manually and delete them ?!
Touch the app and hold. Tap uninstall.
If you never want the app to install automatically during hard reset and it is a preloaded app look under C:\Programs\Commonfiles\xaps and delete the desired appx or xap file out of there.
Or depending on your device type check C:\Programs\Commonfiles\OEM\Public\PreloadedApps\tier3apps\ for other xaps and appx files you do not want provisioned to your phone. I recommend backing them up before you remove any of them though.
Edit: All the currently installed apps are found in C:\Data\Programs

Did you turned on the "Full Filesystem Access" inside the Interop Tools?
About the folder names are with numbers, I suggest you to use this app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/wi...-apps-data-manager-windows-10-mobile-t3523048
