Hi,
i'm from italy and i'm interested in G4 european model H815.
I read a lot in the forum, but i really have some doubts yet. Hope someone can clarify them.
- First, is touchscreen problem really and definitively fixed? In which fw version it was fixed? What is latest european fw version?
- Is it safe unlock bootloader? We could have warranty problem doing it?
- It would be my first LG device, so maybe this is a newbie question, but what "kdz" and "tot" stands for?
- Aside touchscreen problem (fixed?) and led problem (fixed?), which other problems i could expect with this device?
- Finally, is there already a custom rom that is better (in performance, fixes etc.) than orginal's one?
Thanks for anyone help me to understand.
I'd actually like the answer to these questions as well, being a Samsung fanboy, this is my first LG device.
I never have any problem with touchscreen.
There's official bootloader unlock directly from LG for h815 but it will void your warranty.
kdz and tot refer to factory image
Volume over earphone is pretty low. Can be remedied with viper4android.
I'd just get root with low effort root method and xposed running. There's rumor that unofficial bootloader unlock is possible only with original firmware (which will be lost once u receive ota and can't be restored).
Unofficial bootloader unlock is still a rumor
hi, i have the H815 European model too, also my wife
We never have any problem with the Touchscreen
From what i have read, if you unlock the BL via LG any Hardware defect is full covered by the warranty
but i think they can refuse a soft-bricked phone if they would (but i know LG as really cooperative for such problems)
you mean kdz - this is the LG Format for fimware releases, tot also but not oficially LG i think
i never needed or used tot files.
We have no problems with this phone here. this means not that there is no problem
There are custom rom's (and one or two kernel's) but Stock is faster for now (android M)
the 7 HD Rom is a stock based custom Rom wgich performs really good and delivers
a all in one soloution for the most people i think.
fire3k
Thanks for answers, all clear.
But about touch problem i understand you didin't have it, but i would know if people having it have the problem now really fixed. Or it was only placebo effect for the last updates...
Hi Guys,
Is there any way to install TWRP/Custom ROMs, on the H815 TWN variant? I tried today to unlock the bootloader today, but it still says not supported (screenshot attached), let me know if any one has found a way to Bump the kernel like on the old G2/G3 models.
Thanks everyone =D
I have exactly the same issue unfortunately. I'd be happy with ROOT for now.
I hope someone in the community can help us out.
EDIT: root (and downgrade from MM if needed) for TWN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/twn-root-question-downgrade-root-t3328465
Sorry but it's not possible now. There's lots of us waiting for Bootloader to be unlocked for TWN model H815... but currently impossible.
Luckily we can still have Lollipop with root.

And luckily phones like the Nexus 6P or almost any other competitor allows for bootloader unlocking unlike LG.
So if you get pissed off enough, that's an option
Hello Everyone,
Please forgive me if this topic is elsewhere, but I am hoping to get some assistance from the community. I have been searching for a method of obtaining root on my Canadian Bell LG G4 H812 running Marshmallow.
I saw a few methods before Marshmallow rolled out to Canadian Carriers involving extracting system image, injecting root, and replacing the system image on my device. I figured, when MM rolled out, there would be a better method found of doing this, but to my dismay, it now appears to be impossible on MM.
Can anyone confirm if root can be obtained on this device?
I am willing to downgrade to Lollipop to make this happen
Why is there little to no development for this model?
Is the model interchangeable with another LG G4 that root /unlocked bootloader has been found on?
Can anyone possibly offer a noob-friendly guide on doing this?
Please note, I am completely willing to downgrade to lollipop in order to make this happen as I rely on some apps that require root, and some that rooting makes the app more functionsl (Trimmer, greenify, xposed, Titanium Backup to name a few)
I have successfully rooted and unlocked many phones in the past (Motorola Milestone, HTC Desire Z, HTC Amaze, HTC Raider LTE /Vivid, Galaxy S2/3/4, Galaxy Note 2/3, LG G3) but for the first time in my rooting life, I not only feel completely unsure about the process, but I feel pretty uneasy. A lot of the guides that I found for injecting root into the system partition and re-flashing seemed incomplete or broken, and were not published on XDA, so I stayed clear of them.
Thanks everyone in advance.

The exploit used has been fixed on mm
I will receive my G4 from Rogers in 2-3 days, what do you think will be on it? Lollipop or MM ?
Thank you
Daniel
could someone point to a forum, or provide some details as to why this is not possible?
will this be how all phones are made going forward?
I can't wrap my head around not being able to do this, and would just love some reading as to why it is not possible, and what to look out for when buying a new device that is not a Nexus.

The exploit used on Lolipop was by way of inserting the Su root binary and whatever other mods are needed into a system image and then writing it to the phones memory. This trick or exploit used to boot the phone into a state where you could write a new system image was fixed on Marshmallow. There is another trick that I see on the USA variant subforums for the G4 where you pull the USB cable out during an update exactly when it hits a certain percent to get the phone in the exact same state but it doesnt hepl with root anyway.
Marshmallow had changes to it which prevents rooting by simply changing the system partition (not sure exact details) which is why we have the systemless root now. Systemless root requires modifications that will not work with bootloader locked phones. No bootloader unlock has been made available for the G4 so not possible to root MM.
Check out the Canadian G4 thread in the general subforum.
My koodo h812 bought a few weeks ago came with marshmallow out of the box. Build date was July, sn607
If you want to root your new G4 you'll have to downgrade to LP. Check the Canadian H812 thread in the General forum for more details and use LG UP program to flash the KDZ. Mine came with MM from Rogers and it was pretty simple to downgrade.
I don't know how long I can resist the urge to root. My only real issue with it stock is the crappy battery life. There is no excuse for my old moto x with a way smaller, 2 year old battery lasting double the screen on time. I'll probably take the risk on the warranty because I'll always have a backup phone.

I was in this situation with my Canadian G4 (H812).. fortunately I traded it for the european H815 .... I made the right choice I feel. It's got unlocked bootloader, unlocked carrier, no service provider bloatware, and ALL the original LG apps running perfectly (including the FM radio and SmartWorld)
It's beautiful. Anyway there is a guy called SteadFasterX he is working on a custom bootloader called EFIdroid for LG G4 devices with the default bootloader locked. So we are bypassing LG's bootloader and giving control to the EFIdroid bootloader. He is also working on a project called TWRP-in-FISH which lets you boot anything using a LOCKED bootloader. So go check it out and pray, or trade it in for the european version.
I was one of steadfasterX's early testers for FIsH. Unfortunately I think most users are unable or unwilling to shell out more money to buy the exact same phone they already have with different software that is more open. I will just use my LG G4 as long as it suits me and then likely never buy another LG phone unless they change their policy on unlocking.
I'm happy that you resolved your issue but telling others to buy a new phone won't earn you any friends along the way. Plus with the G4 bootloop issues you'd be crazy to buy a used G4 unless it's a really good price.
You really should do your homework a little more thoroughly ...

You really should do your homework a little more thoroughly (LOL) ... TWRP-in-FisH does not allow you to boot just anything. It allows you to boot a custom TWRP version ONLY, a version that will work with locked bootloaders.
EFIdroid in FisH (an ALPHA stage project), if successful, may ultimately allow one to boot custom roms. It does not modify the stock bootloader partition, i.e. it does not unlock it, it hijacks the boot process.
FisH is the project that allows you to boot potentially anything.
You're not helping anyone providing inaccurate, misleading information. Your only contribution to date seems to be telling everyone to sell their H812's and buy H815's - you've made your point (over and over, ad nauseam - hint, look it up) ...
Cheers,

For all those H812 owners coming across this post now ...
Here you go ... [Canadian Guide] - Complete Source for the LG G4 H812. Linux VM/Root/Tools&Files @ https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/canadian-guide-complete-source-lg-g4-t3212449
Do not use the root apps ... they won't work. Use the H81210 stock and rooted versions linked in the first post at the beginning of the Canadian guide site, they should work or you can search for both stock and rooted kdz's for your specific carrier. Use LGUP-NEW (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803) to downgrade and upgrade the firmware on your LG G4.
Follow the Root ANY LG G4 Variant 100% Success Directives | Root Injection | Less Bricks (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...-root-t3180586) ONLY for installing the rooted image (assuming you have obtained a pre-rooted image, otherwise, follow all to root the stock LP kdz you have obtained) -- use the command for the H812 model in the 2nd post here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...ot-lg-t3164765 found in the following box: Command to Flash System.img (All Variants) for installing the rooted image.
That should cover it.

The information posted on the link you've referred to is factually incorrect. The method, using Chainfire's Supersu Beta version SuperSU v2.79 SR3 requires a modification of the boot partition. It is simply not possible with the locked bootloader of the H812, i.e., you can't believe everything you read. The author does somewhat qualify with the statement: If the Root is Not Working in Your Variant Should Be Unlocked Before Root.
You've owned your LG H815 for how long ... ? LOL ... less than a week? Tick, tick, tick ... ILAPO!

Man I even don't understand how is it possible to make from good device, piece of sh* *t.
But LG Know How
Why they spending time of developer's to remove root possibilities and after that adding LG modified bootloader unlock procedure.
I believe if LG DEVELOPER'S was not spending time for removing root possibilities and was Customizing BootLoader Unlock Process, everything was done until this moment, when users want to root the device, but it's impossible by Official Way.
All respected companies using stock android bootloader unlock procedure, like alkatel and others, or already made his costume BL unlock procedure, like Sony...
Only LG have this problem, like with my Old Optimus 3D, I needed to flash customs BootLoader, because stock one cannot be unlocked, simply to flash other staffs like costume Recovery or Kernel.
I sent a massage to LG and they suggested me to search on XDA, exactly not LG Support, LG FUN CLUB responded to my question
And it's A Class Smartphones manufacturer.
How it's possible to make ordinary smartphone with Quallcom Chipset, most respected company making Smartphones Chips.
They making the best CPU's, GPU's and modem chips in the Earth.
And after that Coming LG and removing fastboot mode...
Why?
Like I already said to LG: "It's very very bad decision to remove FASTBOOT Mode.
And I believe it's my last LG Device."
If I'm not wrong, Bernard Shaw said: "Those who appreciates Security more than Freedom, don't deserve nothing".

I found this information here.
I know that is not 100% possible, but it's 2016 model, it's not old device, so I think it will receive Nougat
And also I suggest to look at this Google Request.
Custome ROM!
Like any Smart Developr, before working with some device I'm checking if this device will receive android update!
Because if our LG K10 will receive Nougat Update, ALL MY WORK WITH MARSHMALLOW WILL BE LOST ?
My opinion.
I was thinking why LG K 10 with MEDIATEK Chipset can be rooted and with QUALCOM no opportunity to get root.
And it's showing LG Developer's incompetence.
From my own experience I know that is much more difficult work with MEDIATEK Devices, that's why I don't released Cris Kelo Rom for Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo.
I taken latest Samsung Firmware for this device, rooted it, fixed it to work with Xposed, but after that I got Rom Full of Small bugs.
And when I was fixing one bug I was getting one or sometimes two new bugs, finally I was mad with this Piece of Mediatek technology and gifted it, after that I purchased this Piece of LG K10 Device…
What is the point?
For me it's normal that I can't make something, I'm not Professional Program Engineer, I'm Amateur Developer and LG Corporation Must Have Competent Program Engineer's, they must know how to make the same android on both Chipsets…

I also waiting for Nougat Update, then will try my best to make something.
But until update is released we must insist that LG must make Android Update With UNBLOCKABLE BOOTLOADER AND ACCESS TO FASTBOOT MODE.
It will be much better official way to root it and unlock bootloader than some our invents ?
After that it will be very easy to customize Kernel, Recovery and System ?

All the 6.1 billion don't own this phone lol. Even when LG K10 (2016) was released, I could release the bootloader unlock with the help of my friend after a year .i.e this February/March 2017.
After that I built TWRP for K10 for Qualcomm models and made it official. They are achievements. Now, we are working on LineageOS/Resurrection Remix Nougat versions for K10 (2016) Qualcomm even though LG has not released any Nougat related stuff for K10 (2016) Indian and European Models. There is lot of time being spent for building, testing ROMS and other stuff even if LG officially doesn't support bootloader unlock.
If you have the will, then search forums on XDA for similar SoC your phone has and then find out how they have unlocked their bootloader if their company doesn't support it officially. It is one of the best ways to learn how Android works too.

I have a hard bricked lg k10 no dowload, no charging, nothing, I was trying to downgrade so i could root it (because of the damned 2017 february update) lg up asked if i wanna change the partition ( I think it was the laf partition) and ended up hard bricked. So I read and read here on the forums and saw that others had unbrick hard bricks with qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008 mode but there was no info on how to test point/ short point the lgk10 cpu to get this mode so I started downloading images of other lgs motherboard phones that showed the test points and with a little bit of logic and patience I found it. So now I achived qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008 mode and I know I have to flash the cpu with qfil or similar flash loader (there are a few of them) in order to get download mode back but im lost on how to do this with the lgk10. I have read all of the other post where they do this with a number of different lgs and but im lost. Some of the flash loaders ask for firehose file I dont know what is this but I tried with firehose msm8916 (that is the model of the cpu) but no luck.
I know how to flash the kdz with lg up I just need dowload mode again.
Im guessing I have to extract some files from the kdz with lg firware extractor, compile them and flash them with the cpu flasher but ,how do I do this? Im lost
Can you guide me on the process? Wich tools do I need?
Hi. Yesteday I finally decided to install the update that was popping up on my screen for the last month nearly. So yeah after the update the phone would not detect my SIM, so I tried restarting a couple of times, putting airplane mode on and off a few times, changing sim cards to make sure it wasnt the sim, but yeah nothing. Its would be very weird for it to be the SIM socket when I hadnt even touched it and its only having this problem after updating.
So I went on to LG-Firmwares and flashed with LG-UP a couple of firmwares (took me 5 hours, because i bricked the phone in the first try) and well after succesfully flashing other offitial ROMS SIM Cards are still not detected....

Since i couldn't find any other thread about this phone i decided to make one by my own, if you have anything to say or ask about your phone's behaviour this is the place.
This thread is noob friendly!
