I have just noticed now that the camera is really lagging and goes really distorted and slow when using this feature.
I am unsure if this has always been this way or it has been effected with an update as i have never really used the feature.
Just swapping from normal camera mode to AR Emoji you can tell the difference how bad it is straight away.
Is this normal? Surely not?
Is anybody else having these issues?

as the title stated I been having random reboots when using the camera but not all the time and it's a very random chance like 40 percent. I used the camera quite often on my first galaxy 2 but exchange at do to screen issues ( vertical lines).
basically what I want to know is if anyone else has experienced this before I ask for another replacement.
its random as I can just open up the camera app or I can be switching from back camera to front camera or just going from gallery back to camera and have it lock then appear to reboot then stay on a black screen which requires me to remove the battery.
so far on this phone I've had the issue on eagles blood and on beast. it happened on the stock kernel and on jugs.. I'll be testing the other one out later. I really do not desire to go flashing back to stock so I was just at hoping on other people's experiences.
I just get a feeling it's not necessarily software because everyone would have the issue with the roms.
could anything in the camera hardware be causing it to work sometimes but then freak out on others?
lastly what does anyone recommend I do the moment that this reboots and locks o that I can get a proper read out for the developers?
sorry for the lack of some capitalization and punctuation because I am speaking this on my phone.
Another thing ive noticed on melvins beast rom is that after reboot some settings get reverted..like brightness settings( they go back to auto)
TL;DR : WHEN USING CAMERA APP THE PHONE REBOOTS SOMETIMES.

Hi! First things first, I've looked at most of the other threads regarding common camera issues (blurry pic, mms pics being blurry, etc.) and none of them cover or regard the issues I'm having.
Onto my issue: I'm running Jugg. 4.1 (and am absolutely loving it) but, just yesterday, my camera stopped working. It works when I switch it to video mode and worked a couple times when I would zoom the camera in or out. Now, however the screen is staying black. I can see all the camera controls/shortcuts but nothing comes up on the screen. When I switch the camera to video mode the camera works fine. When I swap the camera to self-shoot it works fine. I've also downloaded a couple different 3rd party camera apps to see if that would fix it and I have the same issue: I can use the shortcuts provided but nothing shows up, just a blank screen in the camera window. I would post a screenshot, but the screen shot's are also coming up as just a black window and aren't showing the camera shortcut menus, camera switch button, etc.
Anyone know of what would cause this or how to fix it?
backup and reinstall ROM.
I am having something similar to what you are faced with.
The difference with mine is that, it says camera failed then closed after pressing ok.
Does anyone know how to correct this problem?
Also I'm having issues with charging my phone.
yeah I'm finally able to get around re-installing tonight, I'll let you know if it fixes it. As for your issues, I'd guess that you have to re-install as well
Yeaaaaaaaaaaah just re-installed, still having the issue. Now I can't record video, either.
mmk... so I've installed teshxx's stock rooted rom, still the same issue. Anyone have any ideas what would cause the camera to work for video recording (that's actually working now, just takes a minute for the camera to start working) but not for taking pictures?
annnnd just restored back to the stock rom, before I installed anything other than root access.
Can anyone please help?
Hello everyone,
I have a pretty big problem with the accelerometer on my S3. I'm running stock jelly bean, not-rooted.
The problem is that the sensor data is always way wrong. Using bubble level apps the phone always has to be tilted to an extreme angle to get the correct reading (holding the phone in portrait it has to be 45 degrees to the right for the bubble to be centered). This makes playing accelerometer based games impossible.
Calibrating from the motion menu does not work.
Factory reset did not work.\
Can anyone please help me with this?
More info:
My problem is pretty much the same as this person's, except they have a different device/ the problem wasn't resolved

Any ideas? Does anyone else have this problem?
bump
Given what you've said it sounds more like its your hardware, as much as it sucks you might need a replacement.
I've seen threads about performance issues when charging etc and I have them myself!
One thing that completely destroys me is the performance when trying to take a quick picture or use an app that uses the camera.
E.g. barcode scanners move the complete opposite direction
Snapchat is also practically unusable. When I open it, it completely s**ts itself every time and is unusual!
I guess my question is..... Do you think custom ROMs and recoveries will solve the issues?
Thanks

I definitely think we should see some optimizations in the next weeks. Snapchat would crap out on me and eventually cause the camera module to crash. It got to the point that the camera would turn black within Snapchat and even within the camera app itself. Only fix was to reboot the phone to get the camera working again. Yesterday I received a snapchat update, not sure if it was meant to address performance issues, but it now works more smoothly and doesn't crash as often. There is definitely room for improvement!
It's really doing my head in and glad I'm not on my own in seeing this!! I don't know anyone else with the 5x to compare so been searching online.
I timed it today, I rebooted the phone and left it 5 minutes without opening anything. I fired up the camera app and it took 124 seconds (just over 2min) until the app was ready to take a photo (the blue circle showing around the shutter button). Then tapping the button to take a photo took a further minute to take the actual photo. Then the phone was that sluggish it needed a reboot.
Not sure if it's the hardware, the os or the app but I've tried Open Camera too and that seems to be really really slow. And, as the OP says, Snapchat totally craps out as do other apps that use the camera.

I just tried the same test. The camera app opened and was ready to shoot (blue circle showing) in about 2 seconds. Double pressing the power button to open the camera app had the blue circle around the shutter button showing right away
Every now and then it does work perfectly. But more times than not there is a massive lag. Usually after the phone has been on for half a day, but like this morning sometimes when it's just turned on.
I've experienced the same issues mentioned by you guys, especially in the OP.
Snapchat has practically been completely unusable until the most recent update, and that only marginally improved things. The root cause seems to be the camera itself, as I'm only seeing this type of lag in apps that access the camera. I can't help but imagine Google is working on a fix for this in the very near future, just one of those 'early adopter' issues I guess. It has caused me to do daily reboots just about, which is very aggravating because that defeats the purpose of a good camera if you miss the moment you're trying to capture. As I'm sure you guys have noticed, when the camera app actually works properly, the pictures are pretty impressive, which makes it all the more aggravating that it can't be used as fluently as designed.
Hoping for all of our sake that Google fixes this soon.
I'm in the same boat.

Hi!...really need some help!
Had phone for 1 year. Generally no performance issues. Over the last month or so, the camera app has started to play up.
1. It takes ages to load
2. The picture stuters/freezes when moving phone in pictures or videos causing delays in snapping and/or jumps in recordings
3. It can no longer focus on things at near distance.
I did a factory restore and think it was okay right after (didn't test it properly). Have since reinstalled most of the same apps and went to use camera today and same issue.
I installed adobe camera app and it works phone so don't think it's a hardware issue. Seems more like something is interfering or maybe a bad update.
Don't want to have to use a seperate app for videos too. Saw some others mention similar issues in the forum though not exactly the same and no resolution (no pun intended). Anyone experienced this and fixed it?
