It was attempted, but it used too much RAM to be useful.

Any suggestions, please.
Dolphin HD
Chrome
Boat
Well this comes down to personal preference but how you want to view webpages will affect what browser you might choose. My personal OPINION is that the Chrome browser is overrated and a memory hog to top it off. The stock browser is OK in certain aspects but if you want to download files from webpages you might run in to issues running it "as is". One benefit of the stock browser though is the ability to render your web viewing in black and white.
If you don't mind simplistic web viewing (mobile view) than Opera Mini is a very good contender.
My one suggestion would be just find one YOU like by trying them out. Different people have different opinions so whatever works best for you. I use different browsers for different internet tasks ex: downloading files, writing on forums, watching videos etc.
Example browsers you could try: Dolphin, Opera, Firefox, Skyfire, Boat, UC, Amazon Silk, Chrome,
Yeah it just depends on your personal preference. I have tried a few browsers I like. Opera, Maxthon, and Chrome are pretty good. Personally my favorite is Dolphin. If you install Dolphin Browser + Dolphin Jetpack it makes browsing super fast!

Thanks for the input, I have been looking for new browsers as well. I have only tried Chrome and it works pretty well, will need to give Dophin a try.
Thank You all for responding, will try some of the browsers suggested.
I was just pondering this subject myself. :silly:
I've found the tab syncing in chrome very handy, other than that it seems over-rated I like the stock browser's look and it has a cool full screen mode with a pretty nifty quick controls option that replaces the address bar and controls with a side swipe thumb menu. sadly I haven't found a good option for flash compatibility.
Chrome is the best browser in my opinion. I really love the minimal/clean look that transitions well between the mobile and desktop versions of Chrome. And it's faster that all the other browsers I've tried. It does use a bit more RAM than other browsers but 512 mb is more than enough to multitask with it.
i love the "single column view" feature of opera bcs it just make every website accurately fits the screen but it drains battery a lot...so pls tell me some good alternative to opera which has similar kind of feature.....
Dont know what feature that is, but the most popular browsers, are Dolphin HD and Google Chrome...

i have not tried these browsers so pls tell me do these browsers make the website page fitting to the screen automatically as the page opens?
Opera rocks, I still use it for daily browsing.
Although I do have Dolphin (for view websites with a desktop view), Chrome (Pretty fast) and latest Firefox, that is also awsome.
Anyway, for me, still the best is Opera, at least for daily use :cyclops:
Saw someone on the forum mention Maxthon browser so decided to check it out, it's actually really fast. However I can't seem to get it to sync bookmarks with the desktop and the addon I downloaded for it to bookmarks fails to login to google, does anyone know any other way to get chrome's bookmarks to sync with it?

Maxthon can only sync with its own desktop version browser. Personally I prefer Maxthon rather than chrome on desktop, it has better basic functions like built-in adhunter, screen snap, webkit/IE engines, video downloader etc.
Yeah I installed the desktop version, created an account, signed into both, imported bookmarks on desktop version, but it still won't sync to mobile.

firewall?
Just got this phone a few weeks ago, and can't seem to find a web browser that allows text reflow, or automatic resizing of text when you zoom in and out of webpages.
My previous HTC and Google Nexus phones were able to do this; but it doesn't appear that the z1 compact can. Am I correct?
I've tried Dolphin, Boat, Chrome, Opera, Opera Mini...and ideas? Maybe a custom ROM? And if so which one?
Any help/input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Opera browser has text reflow, it's the one I use for visiting web pages with lots of text. Have you looked in the options?

Thanks, I must've missed that in normal opera browser. The mini version definately doesn't work though. Should've double checked everything.
I've googled, browsed youtube, browsed XDA and any other site I can find, and though I found a link to what used to be a version of chrome compiled for arm RT, that page no longer exists. I have seen videos of Surface RT's with chrome and Firefox on them, and happily managing to double click exe files at will, but nothing that I do seems to give me that ability. Does anyone have a copy of Firefox or Chrome that will run on the RT? Failing that literally ANY browser but IE. Generally, I'm quite happy with the apps I can get, and manage to do what I want, but the browser is just KILLING me.

The only browser other than IE that anyone's ever gotten to run on the RT is Qupzilla which is not really intended to be a full browser. It lacked touch integration and didn't do a very good job rendering.
