OTA update on custom kernel - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hi,
would like to ask some question.
Currently i am on october ota android 10 with sultan kernel
How do i update my pixel with November OTA.
Are there any shortcut to update the OTA without wiping my data.
Thanks.

Flash Nov. factory image without -w (wiping), then boot to twrp and reflash kernel followed with magisk
Thats what i did and what i usually do to update every month, im in same situation as yours, stock october firmware with sultan kernel
All data and apps and magisk modules stay the same as they are

How can I install OTA updates when I am rooted with Magisk?

I posted a while back in February about how I was unable to install the December Security OTA Update on my XT1710-01 RETUS, but I didn't get any responses. I believe that I have learned that this is due to the fact that I have unlocked my bootloader and rooted with Magisk (however I have not flashed TWRP or a custom recovery, if that makes a difference).
It looks like some other users had this issue too, and that some of you were able to get by with flashing a different Stock ROM in to get back to Stock and then flashing the OTA update.
Is that what I need to do in order to be able to flash my OTA updates in the future? Is there any other method aside from flashing the ROMs to get the updates too install on my phone?

Updates

My XL is rooted with magisk and ElementalX kernel.
Last updated with June patch.
Do I have to sideload OTA . To get the latest update.
Or can I just go to settings, advanced....
Sideloading is so easy I would do it that way. Make a backup, sideload the full OTA image, and you are ready to go. Then reinstall the kernel and majisk

How to update ROM after root?

Hi,
Almost a year ago I successfully rooted my A3 2017 with Android 8.0 using Magisk, since then a few more versions of the official Samsung ROM have been released. I wouldn't mind updating my ROM to get the security updates and bug fixes but I don't wanna lose my root.
How can I accomplish this?
Thanks!
Download the ROM from sammobile.com (or any other site) and flash it in Odin. Then flash TWRP and install Magisk again.
Just read through some guides

How do apply OTA update in aljeter with twrp and magisk?

I received an OTA patch security for aljeter xt1922-5 retbr. The package is identified as PPPS29.55.35.12-3. I don't know if there's anyone working on a sideload package of this that I could flash with twrp. The device has only partition A to boot.
twrp and magisk were installed on factory rom 8.1, oreo and the pie upgrade OTA went smoothly, overwriting twrp for the recovery stock and magisk, I just had to install magisk zip and twrp again later. But this is just a security paych and it won't even have boot and recovery partitions included, as far as I know. so if I'm correct about that, it won't be able to "auto apply" like the previous one, so:
is twrp able to flash the patch?
can I just roll back to stock and apply the OTA?
finally, is there a way to install this update without all the work of reverting to stock recovery and stock ROM via ADB?
I've read similar topics for other model versions here on XDA, but still can't be sure about this issue. I read reports of users who were able to flash OTA with twrp and others not. How should I proceed? I really do not wish to risk brick the device.

LM-G710ULM ... Custom Rom.... Where to start?

I have a LM-G710ULM on android 8.0.0
Sec patch sept 1, 2018
Kernel 4.9.65
Its never been bootloader unlocked or anything and internal mem is almost full so was going to wipe it and factory restore but figured now would be a good time to look into unlocking bootloader and flash a custom rom.
Im just looking for good performance and reliability, I have not flashed a custom rom in years and not at all with this phone so is there any up to date guides for people with no clues?
Any rom suggesstions?
Thanks!
You may try to upgrade to latest android 10 official firmware first. You will not flash anything custom but at least you will get an update from android 8 and start to familiarize with flashing.
And even if you want a custom ROM, the most recent ones are based on latest android 10 official firmware, so you have to install that first anyway
