Virtual Home Button? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hi All,
On my note 9, and I think note 8, I was able to press the home button whilst the screen was off and it would com on, like a virtual button. That seems to have gone now?
Is there anyway of getting it back?
Thanks
P.S. dont know what the feature is called, sorry.

You now have a double tap to wakeup feature which you can use anywhere on the screen.
I think it's way more comfortable

Yes, my note 8 had this feature, tje haptic feed back was nice, but the present implementation is better imo

Disable button on stylus

I forget the name of the button on the stylus that launches the wheel thingy, but it would be great it it could be disable completely. I use Lecturenotes and it's great that I can disable the wheel pop up, but I can't disable the button completely it seems. So if I am writing and I accidentally press it ( which happens all the time) at least the wheel pop up doesn't appear, but the word I am currently writing does disappear and I have to constantly write it again. I have the Bamboo Feel as well and it's awesome ergonomically speaking, but again it's the same thing. I tend to squeeze tightly when I write and I don't know that I can train myself to not accidentally push the button on the stylus. Would be nice if it could just be completely disabled.
I'm actually interested in this too, drives me nuts sometimes
Same here, I think it was put in a very bad location on the stylus.

Just go to Settings and in the tab Controls look for the S pen menu.
There you can disable the air command

yeah, that stops the pen from bringing up the menu when you press the button but what we are looking for is what disables the pen button completely. So like, when you are writing the pen doesn't automatically switch into a select mode because you hit the button with your finger.
@arcadiua, JarkMackson & FLGibsonJr: This Samsung-specific functionality is provided by the system, no app can interfere here, as these touch events are not send to the app. I know of LectureNotes' users that have broken the S-pen button to circumvent the problem (either of the original or a second S-pen), but there are less destructive options, for instance to use a different stylus or to place the S-pen inside a `holder´ (which has the pleasant side-effect of increasing the S-pen size to that of a normal pencil).
if you don't mind a permanent solution. just pop off the button - it's pretty easy if you use a razor, just have something to catch the button when you pop it off. you should be able to then modify the button to not push the clicky thing.
while you're in there, you see to pots that you can turn to modify the sensitivity and offset of the pen if you're having any problems with them. i had posted a tutorial in the OG note 10 forum.

It worked!!! Just popped the button off with a razor, and then used that same razor to saw off the little nub at the end of the button that apparently would signal the button press, and then popped the button back on.
No more brief loss of the ability to write when I am in the middle of teaching.
Thank you!
jesus, thats super annoying. I need an eraser button for drawing. Looks like i need to buy a damn 3rd party stylus. Would be nice if the 10.1 at least supported tilt, then it would be worth dropping some money on an intuos pro pen...
I also use Lecture Notes as a student however I love using the stylus button. Lecture notes has the capability of using a single click as an eraser and a double click as undo.
BUT the most recent update has prevented me from using this feature any longer..
Now, every time you click the button it brings up the Air Command wheel and there is no option to turn it off.
Doesn't look like there is a workaround for this.. is there any way I could bring this up somewhere to raise awareness to the devs so they can enable an option to turn it off?
@mojo_jodroid: If you cannot disable `AirView´, the stylus button click is processed by Android/`AirView´ and does not reach LectureNotes.

i'm not sure what you mean by "the stylus button click is processed by android/android..."
@mojo_jodroid: It means that the input event `user presses stylus button´ is intercepted by Android/`AirView´ and removed from input processing (as if it never happened).

[Q] App: Soft power button on edge/ticker screen ?

I've had an opportunity to play with a display model of the Note Edge recently and ultimately decided to buy one. It'll arrive on Tuesday.
The one thing that I really disliked (coming from a Note2) - is the awkward placement of the Note Edge's power button. So I was wondering if there'd be a way to add a soft power button to the edge/ticker screen -
I found a couple of options to play with which I've linked below.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.kixx.tool.offwidget
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.suriv.suscreen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenonlite
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/wakeup-turns-on-your-screen-without-the-power-button/
That mostly addresses the 'off' part but 'on' looks relegated to being triggered by motion or the proximity sensor (because why would you want a 'screen on' app/button on any other phone - because the screen is... off).
I didn't play extensively with the Edge but if the edge/ticker screen is always on (or in a stand-by clock mode) then can someone make something that detects a swipe down and wakes the main screen? Or swipes to a shortcut that wakes the main screen?

Hey! Glad you decided to join us edge users! About your question I'm personally using screen off and lock. I've had no problems and its working beautifully. Got it on my list of apps on the edge and even with the edge on just using it to control my music i click the button for it to turn off the screen and it does just that. It has some nice features as far as animations which i like. As far as the other apps I haven't tried them yet. Hope this helps. Have a good day
easy to do, already sorta included..... with screen off swipe up/down(one motion, do not lift finger between) on the edge screen the edge clock will activate, then swipe from right to left to pull up the app shortcuts cocktail, tap any app in the list and it will wake the main screen and app will be launched and waiting behind lock screen

Oh, sweet. Thanks for this! I kept accidentally activating that and couldn't figure out what I was doing. Heh. I love this phone, I keep finding new things.
The easiest way around the poor power button placement is just to buy the official case so it turns on and off when you open and close the case. It really should of just came with the phone. They belong together. I bought it. It really is like a piece of the phone.

I use greenify. I long press the home button and it hibernates and turns off the screen. I've found it so much nicer than trying to mess with the power button location.

Screen off and lock has this capability add well.
I don't mind having the power button on top, it's the switched back button and last used buttons I still can't get used to. Oh and I don't like how the home key doesn't respond to the pen without press, fail.
Lately I've set GMD gesture control to double tap for screen off. Just have to blacklist a few apps (like calculator) and keyboard where a rapid set of taps will shut screen off when you are trying to do something else. Would be nice if there was a double tap to turn screen on! Some phones can do this. But, for now, I'm fine with just pressing home button for that.

[Q] User issues with new Nexus 7 (2013) help please.

I purchased a new Nexus 7 (2013) a couple of weeks ago, and if I could return it, I would. I have a couple of user issues I just hate. I've been searching around for solutions, and I think there may be some, but I'm new to all of this, and I need some help and advise.
My first issue, and this is huge for me, is waking the tablet up. I primarily use the tablet to control my music server (Bubble DS Next). I'm frequently on the tablet while listening, but not always. The problem is that when the tablet sleeps, I have to use the power button to wake it up. I find the power button difficult to press, and it's just a pain. I have a Samsung S5 phone, and I love the physical home button for waking up the phone. I wish the Nexus 7 had the same button. I saw where someone was able to double tap the screen to wake up the Nexus 7. Is this part of some custom ROM? How could I get this feature?
My second issue relates to the on screen back, home, and apps buttons. I HATE that the home button is right below the space bar where I constantly seem to hit it while typing. I solved this issue while browsing the internet by using Dolphin as a browser in full screen mode. Is there a way to always hide these buttons unless you swipe up from the bottom?
I'm prepared to unlock and root the tablet, but I want to be certain I'm doing it for the right reasons. I'm not a power user of any kind, so other than wanting these 2 fixes, I'm fine with everything else about the tablet.
Thanks.

I decided since I can't return the thing, I might as well jump in and make it work better. I unlocked, rooted, TWRP'd, and flashed ElementalX ROM for Lollipop. I'm also using APEX Launcher mostly to get the tablet UI. At least I got the double tap to wake function now.
Thanks

Question I no longer seem to be able to call up Google Assistant with the home button

After a handful of weeks with my Pixel 6 Pro I'm still getting the hang of getting my phone back to the way I like it. I re-enabled the buttons at the bottom of the screen for a variety of reasons. The biggest one being that for me gestures are kind of difficult due to some problems with my hand. But now, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to press and hold the home button to get Google Assistant pop up. I don't want to do it with the power button and I've already disabled all that. I'd like my tried and true home button functionality. I know this works because my pixel 3 XL with Android 12 still had it. I just can't figure out how to get it re-enabled. Can anybody tell me what I'm missing in the settings?
Yep I don't want the power button either and the home button on 3 dot navigation is not either lol, Rather odd considering Google is heel bent on their smart assistant and yet it doesn't work with the home button.

Question Home button for assistant?

Does anyone know how to get the 'hold home button for assistant' option back?
I really miss this handy feature that worked on my Google pixel 3XL. Holding power button is no where near as useful and now home button does nothing at all.. a wasted button.
I've been trying to find a a root module but not having any luck

Under "gestures" in settings, I have double tap back of phone to activate google assistant. Also with Nova Launcher Prime you can assign different gestures for different app shortcuts. IE. I have swipe up for camera, double tap screen to turn off screen. etc..
Gesture Plus (app)
I'm in the same boat... I have the phone set to double tap the back for assistant, but every so often (far too often), double tapping the back doesnt do anything and so i have to look up the assistant app. Its really annoying, gonna try nova launcher settings, if that dont work, i dunno... I'm considering going back to my OnePlus 8 Pro, this phone has been failing me badly with its lag spikes, features not working, and other issues. Camera's amazing though!
