Is there any way to reconfigure the search button to display open apps, like what holding the back button does?

The power button on HD is useless for me because I dont use TF3D.
Is it possible to use these buttons (home/back) to pop the start menu/close app?
I tried AEButton, but it does not seem to have an option for something like that.
Also,is it possible to change soft keys when using standard windows homescreen from calendar/contacts to something else?

You might try spb pocketplus which has a button map functionality also.
AEButton works for the back button. (you don't need to add a new button : use "ok key")
Sadly, it doesn't for the home button
Howdy, i am looking for a way to add more button assignments in the list, currently i only have the call button, when held down it rotates screen, doesnt seem to be a method to add more thinghs, like hold down back key, home key and volume keys?
(end key brings up some menu for putting phone in plane mode etc (not really useful as can do that in comms manager / turn off phone on a plane. so changing that to a better assigment would also be neat cheers.

There are many programs out there that address this. Search for button mapper, assign button, remap, etc.
Some obvious ones are AEButton Plus, MobileMagic...
I need an app or tweak for this.

I've conceded the fact that the phantom presses from capacitive buttons occur and cannot be stopped so I rooted my device (and commented the use of the search and menu button to be benign / vestigial). I am realizing home much I need to use the menu button. I attempted to use a program that put up a on screen menu but I just disliked it. I also to use launch key, but it only impact the long press of the search button which is already turned off.
Is there anyway to remap the longpress of home to act as a menu button?

messing around with the (how to enable soft touch keys) mod I found how to remap the hardware buttons to my liking... I was able to remap the home button to search and back, but I've found that whatever happens 1 line of code makes the button's 3 functions go with it... when I made it search pressing it brought up search, long pressing it brought up voice search and double pressing did nothing. I even tried making the menu button into home and all it's functions came with it, double pressing the menu button brought up s voice and long pressing it brought the task manager.
I guess my question is this: since the code tells a button what it's called where are the functions of these names stored? I can change the home key "key 172" to "SEARCH" but I haven't been able to find which file figures out what to do when a button labeled "SEARCH" is pressed, double pressed, or held...
I know s voice knows how to edit this file since it has control over double trapping home. and android system knows how to edit it too since every android "including our phone" asks to select a default action when long pressing a "SEARCH" button
my ultimate goal is reconfiguring a button to bring up Google now (which I love) without undoing the original button function (say making double tap home or long pressing menu bring up Google now). I'm also sure others would benefit from knowing how to do this kind of stuff namely people who want a camera button or a search button
any help would be appreciated
