GPS problem
When the screen goes off, it loses its location
I have got the same issue, it is extremely annoying - no way to use any trackers, or voice-only navigation. Have you tried a reset?
I have tried all possible battery settings - using both built in battery saver and going through hidden settings apps. I give apps "no restrictions" for battery saving but the gps switches off the moment the screen goes off.
On an older Miui phone I have no such issue (redmi note 4x with MIUI 10)
No such issue on my device....
I had to reset it up factory settings, but now it works well. Maybe the upgrade to miui 11 broke it? Now however, on 11 with GPS working fine while screen off.
Have you locked in memory which ever app you using to track via GPS. Also turn off battery optimization

I have noticed that since I have updated to 2.3.3 on my phone, LEAVING GPS on, seems to drain my battery fast. If I turn it off, the battery lasts a LOT longer.. I never had this issue on 2.2 .. I also tried this with a program called BATTERYXL. I orig had it set to leave GPS on but turn off data when screen is off. STILL drained battery.. now tested it with GPS ON and DATA ON when screen is ON. DATA AND GPS OFF when screen off. battery lasted a LOT longer..
HOWEVER, am I loosing anything by having GPS off when screen off? will the sense weather update? will it grab the location from something else (phone or data? data is set to come on every 2 hours with bateryXL )
Thanks...
I had the same issue and had to turn GPS off. The weather apps and everything that is location based still work perfectly with the GPS being off. The only time that you are ever prompted to turn it back on would be if you are doing any type of navigation via Google Maps, other than that you will be good to go!

so I dont need the GPS to get a location for the weather app? I know I need GPS for my nav program..
Hi
Finding, that the battery from the SGW drops to fast, I installed an so called battery saver app. Firstly I tried juice defender, finding out that I need Pro version to really save energy the way I want to -> deinstalled. Next I tried GreenPower free battery saver. Didn't notice, that switching off WLAN and G3/4 is also only available in pro version. Nevertheless I configured everything in order to give it a try.
Today I noticed, that GreenPower... switched on WLAN and GPS and Blutooth and every other power consuming device. Despite disply brightnes. For what?? So I uninstalled the app.
The problem now is, that GreenPower... switched the display brightness to automatic! Even at the widget "Energiesparmodus" ("powersavings"?) the sign for brightness shows an "A" for automatic. I can adjust the brightness at settings (1000 subfolders) BUT the quick cool sliding at the notification bar is not working any more.
Is there a possibility to switch it on again?
I'm rooted and have Titanium Backup installed with an full backup from last week.
Trying to recover notification bar did not work (screen notification "backup failed" and notification bar was gone; after reboot bar back again, with no brightness regulation).
Anybody with glue for this?

Personally recommend to not use a battery saver apps or some sort eg. when the screen is off data connection will be off.
And when you wake the SGW it will again struggle to look for the data connection signal ...that will take energy away from the battery.

What about installing a custom rom like Bionic cow? Had the same problem with the energy on this device with the stock rom and i tried different "saver"-apps.
At least i gave this rom a try et voilĂ even with intensive use the accu lasts much longer than before. I can't say why this rom reduces the energy consumption, maybe because of the lightweight launcer and some other modifications...
solved
Thanks guys!
It stopped working for 3 days. On the 4th suddenly it worked again. Without doing NOTHING. I even didn't do another reset. curios

I recently updated from CM 4.0.4 to CM 4.2.2 (10.1.3 to be exact), and I found that my gps is ALWAYS on, no matter what I do.
What I mean by is that, when I first boot the phone, gps is off, everything is good. Then I use an app that uses GPS - most likely Google Maps, which prompts me to turn on the GPS. I do that, GPS connects just fine, Google Maps locates me using GPS, everything is good.
The problem is when I turn OFF the GPS. I turn off the GPS via notification drawer GPS button, and GPS goes off, and I exit maps. The issue is then is shown in the battery history. Even when I turn off the GPS after using it, according to battery history it was never OFF, and from that point on it would keep showing GPS as on in the battery history.
What's funny is that even though it says GPS is on in the battery history, when I go to Locations Access it is clearly shown that Access to my location is OFF, and the gps box is greyed out as well. However, battery drain seems to suggest that GPS is actually eating away my battery, since my battery drain is significantly higher. Just to check if my GPS is actually on despite saying it is off in Location Access, I try using maps, and it is clear that GPS is not working in maps.
The only way to solve this funny situation is to reboot my phone, after which it would be shown that GPS is off in the battery history. However if I turn on GPS even once, the problem happens, all over again.
I have of course checked all my apps - the only apps that access GPS are Maps, Google Now, Facebook, and GO Weather, and I've made sure that location access in these apps are off. Well, with the Location Access in the system setting off in the first place, these shouldn't be working anyway.
I tried re-flashing 10.1.3, re-flashing gapps, and factory reset, to no avail. I suspect that kernel might be an issue, since I was using an old KT kernel before I updated, and it was slightly unstable. But if that is the case, I have no idea how to fix the kernel aside from re-flashing 10.1.3.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
I bought a Tab Pro 8.4 and decided to install Cyanogenmod 11 on it (currently on M12).
When I check my Battery usage under Settings after leaving it alone for several hours, "Android OS" is shown to be using over 60%. I tried using the Wakelock Detector app, and that didn't show any rogue apps. The "total wake time" in WD also closely matches the "keep awake" time for Android OS in Settings>Battery. There's even been a few times that my device didn't go into deep sleep at all.
Restarting the device didn't help as the problem would come back after an hour. I've tried several fixes including turning off auto-sync, using Greenify to freeze apps, and wiping my external SD card. None of them worked, but now I think I've found the source of the problem.
If I turn off wi-fi, "Android OS" no longer shows up at the top of my Battery page. Turn wi-fi back on and the problem comes back. Turning sync off doesn't change anything, so it seems like the issue is with the wi-fi itself and not with syncing apps. I even went into advanced Wi-Fi settings and changed it to 'turn off wi-fi during sleep' and still had the battery drain (though not as much - around 30% but still more than anything else). Changing the "Wi-fi Optimization" setting doesn't do anything either. I do notice sometimes when using my tablet that I don't have as many bars (on the wi-fi symbol in the status bar) as I do on my phone.
Does anyone have experience with this wi-fi issue? My GS3 doesn't do this. I assume that the problem is that my tablet device has a bad wi-fi connection and is always scanning or something, but I have no idea where to go from here.
EDIT: I might try downgrading to a previous milestone of CM11. I was reading in another thread how some other people were having wifi issues on M12 as well. My GS3 has been stuck on M10 because later updates broke stuff, so I'll try M10 on my tablet.
Hello.
I have an issue, and tried to investigate it but withoout success.
When the GPS is enabled, something keeps useing it. Sometimes i have to wait for some hours for it to turn itself on, sometimes it 'bugs' after some minutes.
This hapens after a hard reset (and email entered, apps updated) too.
Tried to disable all location based stuff:
- no weather widhet (uninstalled)
- no location reporting / shareing
- no gps aps running
- disabled all stock apps i can.
- user an older play services, and a newer too.
on the gps settings tab, it shows the play services, but with only in low enegy mode.
when it comes today, i tried to kill all the running apps from the app settings includeing system apps. nothind made the gps icon gone, not for a second.
Does anybody got a solution, or something to let me use the gps enabled, but without something let it user for hours?
//No root, no unlocked bootloader!
Thanks!

I observed the same behaviour
Service center told me, to do hard reset and bring my phone to them; nothing usable info.
