A50 Dialer Alternatives - Samsung Galaxy A50 Questions & Answers

I've been using mostly Moto phones for some time where I can message, add contact, block, and copy numbers directly in the Dialer. The only option available on the Stock A50 Dialer is Delete, which is pathetic. The Google Dialer is shown as non-compatible from the Play Store. I've seen some people talk about using Hiya on Samsung phones, but it's clumsier and has no option for a Dark Theme. I'm wondering what other options are out there without root? Thanks.

try this port of the google dialer for non compatible phones

Thanks much...found an alternate older port this morning and it works...heard this one was newer on that thread. This morning I got a dropdown in the Samsung Dialer that had some of the functionality I was looking for, but I can't bring it back up...yet. Hopefully I'll figure that out as well.
Thanks again!

Nexus Dailer -Contact Search Filter

Hey All,
I came from the miui rom on my DHD and one thing i loved about it i am missing in android 4.0.
when going to the dialer, and typing a number, it also did name searches.
Is this possible in 4.0 or did they fail by not building this simple feature?
example: dialing 2539 would bring up Alex from my contacts.
i dont wanne go in my contacts, then search, then call.
just type a few numbers to have it filter my contacts and immediately dial.
Thanks.
I miss this too... I know taht on older androids you can use Go dialer&Go contacts to get this functionality but don't know if work on ICS also I would like use stock dialer design but with this "T9" functionality...
unfortunately no..
this has been the behavior of the stock dialers in every AOSP rom.. very annoying!
Yeah, miss it too, very annoying! Was so much quicker before, having to do it this new way just feels slow and clunky.
Can you not search by contact numbers using the google search bar at the top? Im waiting for a replacement phone so I cant check but I thought they added that feature in ICS.
Mark.
I am currently using Dialer One purely for the T9 search feature, looks like CM9 will have it on board though: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,10843
looks good

in this threat for one of the custom roms i see they have a t9 dialer from CyanogenMod.
anybody know what it looks like and if it can be installed on other roms, for example, i'm running the revolution rom.

[Q] Suggesting contacts when typing in phone numpad

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out.
I just got the Galaxy Nexus and upgraded to the stock 4.2. I am very happy with it but there is one small snag.
I previously had the HTC hero and it had an option to intuitively search your contacts when you are typing stuff in the dialing pad. I don't see this in the vanilla Jellybean. It's really strange as this seems to me like a must-have function and I can't think why they would have omitted it.
I searched all the options over and over and found nothing. A friend of mine has a custom jelly and it has it.
Please tell me if I am doing something wrong or if this is by design for the vanilla version.
Thanks in advance!
yes, vanilla JB doesn't have that unfortunately. but, if you are rooted you could try replacing the stock dialer with the one with T9 capabilities - you could find it floating around the board, though i haven't tried yet,
or you could use custom ROM, that's what i did.
Download an app from play store.
I personally like DW contacts.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
You can also use exdialer from play store. Great dialer with themes. No root required.

By Design who needs T9 when you have Google Now? Just swipe up from Navbar and say call Contact X. Just about every custom rom features a T9 dialer so that is worth consideration.

I need it because I'm bulgarian and naturally my contacts all have names that Google Now has a pretty hard time recognizing when said aloud.
I'm thinking about a custom rom but for now I'll go with the dialers suggested in previous posts.
I still think that this option is something that any dialer should have and find it pretty puzzling that they should omit it in the stock one. My guess would be patent issues.
Anyways, thanks to all of you for your suggestions, you've been extremely helpful!
Cheers,

Stock Google Dialer - no ringing, no loudspeaker

Hi,
Today I've received my HTC 10 and I'm trying to get the 'nearest Nexus experience'. There was no problems with either Now Launcher or Keyboad, but I have some problems with Dialer. The app itself was installed from Play Store (com.google.android.dialer), so no sideloading was necessary. The installed version is 2.05.07_rc4. I've given it all permissions (with settings ones), change default dialer and everything is working except ringing and loudspeaker. I can dial a number, answer a call, talk. There are all notifications.
I've tried sideloading different versions form apkmirror. 2.3.17 fails to install (no necessary libraries), 3.00.04_rc4 installs but crashes. I've also sideloaded Contacts - no problems there.
Can someone had similar problems? Maybe on different phone?
Thanks for any help.
Karol
That's weird. When I go to the Play Store, it tells me the Google Dialer is not compatible with my HTC 10. Also, the version on the store is 2.3.17, how come you have 2.05.07_rc4 ? Which country are you in? (I'm in the US) Why is it a release candidate (I assume the rc part at the end is for that)?
I've tried installing from apkmirror (2.3.17 and 3.00.04_rc4) and the same happens to me; first one doesn't want to install and the latter crashes.
I'm trying as well to make my 10 resemble my former Nexus, so if anyone knows how to make this Google Dialer app work, please, post it here.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. Not sure which version. I ended up going back to the horrible HTC dialler
I also had a problem with the alarm in the google clock app. The alarm tone I selected always seemed to be the default rather than the custom selected one.
I don't know what HTC have done with their firmware. It's been a pretty good experience other than those issues though.

Give the google clock permissions for disk access and it will then be able to use custom "ringtones". This is a common Marshmallow issue. Try giving the google dialer full permissions and see if that fixes your other issues.

I'm in Poland. And yes, Google Play installs 2.05.07_rc4. It's also available from ApkMirror (apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-release/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-android-apk-download)
As for the phone - I gave up. It's already sold. All reviewers almost promised the Nexus experience, but it's far from it. It's not like Moto phones, where they take stock Android and add some of their features. It's all rebuild. The quick settings look similar yet different. The same thing is with the settings. Some (Many?) dialogs have Sense not Material look. The typography is wrong. It still is Roboto, but the weights are used differently.
Stock Android is beautiful. Everything is in place, everything works as expected. Sense (8 is it?) look like HTC tried to rebuild/upgrade previous version to look Material. They failed. I'm back to my old Nexus 5.
Ps. One hint about the dialer. When you place a call, two icons appear in the notification bar. One from Google Dialer, one from HTC Dialer. So the built in one is still active, also you can't disable the Contacts/Dialer app. Maybe it's HTC bug and should by reported?
Karol
Sounds weird.
I couldn't install the contacts or dialer through google play, but sideloaded the apks and no problem once I gave the permissions.
The phone rings and loudspeaker is functional.
No issues or bugs so far.
Edit: The HTC dialer does show in the notification, and in the default app I selected the google dialer.
The phone doesn't ring either but I do have loudspeaker during a call.
For me the only part I care about is the dialer. I have the dialer installed and when I call it launches HTC phone app. I get the nice features of search but no bugs. So far it has worked nicely

I got that setup to work like that as well, but I don't like the htc phone app taking over the call. I have Google voice + carrier number on the same phone and the Google phone app lets me know if I'm dialing with Google voice or with my carrier number.

Our only hope is Roms or maybe a HTC Google phone like the m7, that would be so awesome.

Why did HTC feel the need to restrict the access to the phone's dialing functions? (rethorical question)

I've enabled permissions for both phone and storage and it still doesn't seem to allow me to change my alarm to a custom ringtone.

Google just updated the stock dialer, it is now compatible with the HTC 10. Any luck?
I tried this earlier today and the new RC9 won't even install for me. No errors, just a failed message after a brief wait. I tried uninstalling the RC8 first but no change.

I got the same thing on other apps. You have to go into permissions to allow it to modify system settings. I don't remember exactly where it is but since the app never rings I uninstalled it.

Looks like there is an easy fix for this now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66873075&postcount=39
keep in mind it breaks Wi-Fi calling settings ( although Wi-Fi calling still works)

Right... and the OP already had it and was modding to get it to work. Not sure how this is relevant. But yes, of course replacing any system files like the HTC dialer will require root...

(Q) Google dialer and contacts app for lollipop?

I'm looking for a way to replace my stock dialer on 13b with Google own dialer and contacts app I've tried apkmirror for downloading them but they fail to install yes I made sure to try the one specifically for lollipop is their any way to do this?
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
Obviously not what you want - I'm honestly not sure how to get those working right now -
but you could use KK Dialer and KK Contacts from GPlay, then if you really wanted you could modify the icons to make them look like Google Dialer and Contacts,
their UI's are very very similar to Google's Stock. These are my replacements ATM.
Hopefully we get support for these two soon though! I wish to see it that Google keeps building their apps to support more and more devices.
I got Google dialer 2.05.07 RC4 working on my H811 device.

Thank you for the confirmation, we're looking for a minimum of 5.0 or 5.1.
2.0.5.07 RC4 is minimum 6.0. But that is good to know for M users!

Stock SMS Widget not available anymore

Can someone please check their Widget list and see if the stock messaging/ SMS widget is there. For some reason mine is missing, i use nova launcher and thought that maybe the issue, but its not there in stock launcher either.
Thanks.
I don't use it but I just tried to set a widget and it doesn't appear in my list of widgets.
What the heck. The widget used to be there for me on my S9. Can someone else confirm if they see it or not also. It makes Bo since why it would be removed. On my work phone galaxy S6. It is working as usual.

Same reason they removed image resizing from the photo editing app, replaced "keep screen off in a dark place such as pocket or bag" with "touch is disabled in a dark place", screen will now happily come on and stay on though... and other dumb changes that make no sense
At a guess for the messages widget, stats probably showed it wasn't used much but who knows with Samsung
anyone get a previous version working? i really miss a widget..

Use a different SMS app that contains a widget?
Android Messages has widgets and is a much better app in my opinion.
i really like to keep my phone minimalist with no extra apps unless i have too.. also it's nice having one that respects the theming engine of the phone.

Then there's no reason to even buy a high end phone especially with Samsung's less than stellar apps. Just my opinion, but like a**holes, everybody has one.

The widget is gone for me also. Happened when I updated the Google Android Messages app on Google play store yesterday. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the Google SMS app several times which was not stock on my phone, have cleared my phone's cache a from the safe mode screen, and also cannot find the SMS widget for stock messages app or Facebook Messenger.

After toying around on and off all day, I found an older version of the Google Android Messages app that works and has the widget. I do not promote installing apps from unverified sources outside if the Google Play Store as it can be a risk to your device. Here is the application that I found to be working:
