This Steps Reset your phone

Select " Android "
Download : " Unlock Device App: Unlock boot loader "
Install the apk into your device and follow the steps
if you have any problem go into stock recovery ( volume down + power button ) and Factory Reset and retry to unlock bootloader with the app
ROOT ZENFONE 5 2018 [ZE620KL]​
You absolutely need adb and fastboot installed on your computer go to search 15 minutes adb & fastboot installer or others adb & fastboot installer
Go on Asus Support Web Page here : https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-5-ZE620KL/HelpDesk_Download/
Select " Android "
Download : The Version of Stock Firmware that you use actually
Extract on your computer the boot.img
Copy the boot.img into your device memorie
Install Magisk Manager.apk on your Device
Open Magisk Manager
Click on Install and Install once again
Select Patch boot.img
Select your boot.img into your device memorie And Ok
Finally you have a patched_boot.img into The file " Magisk Manager " into your device memorie
Copy the patched_boot.img into your device memorie to see him when you copy it on your computer
Copy the patched_boot.img on your adb folder on your computer
Plug your Device into Fastboot Mod at your computer
Open the power shell windows into adb folder
tape " fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img "
tape " fastboot reboot "
You are rooted

I am not able to locate one for the zenfone 5z (zs620kl).

At this moment twrp is build by taiwan dev and is unofficial buil in test and it's not work correctly but wait
For now the way for root is in magisk manager and patched boot .img sorry
TWRP added in the Tutorial But i haven't Test sorry

Ok ....

A clean more stock version of Android on the 5Z would make the phone near perfect.
Hopefully we'll be able to unlock the bootloader for the 5Z as well. Time will tell.

Is it possible? A full tutorial to made it?

i successfully unlock, my smartphone.
I rooted it, installed TRWP recovery and Magisk SuperSu app.
I have a litte problem.
Themes app don't work proprely.
When i change theme, there is no effect.
There is a fix?

You need to unlock bootloader for root . Honor is not giving bootloader unlock keys . Use DC unlocker it will cost you around 4 euro

January 2023 Edit: The guide below is now outdated. The technique still works, but some of the steps have changed, and may not reflect your experience when rooting. Proceed with caution.
Hello XDA. I have spent the past couple of weeks struggling with unlocking and rooting this awesome device. After some researching I have decided to put this guide together after stumbling on a lot of fake guides on Google that don't work for the Honor 8x. I hope this helps you!
Step 1: Purchase a bootloader code.
Unfortunately, since Huawei stopped providing unlock codes, there is no way around this requirement. Some older guides suggest DC Unlocker, but this does NOT work with newer Huawei devices, and there are no known exploits to get around this. I have provided some options below (which have been tested by XDA members). Step 2: Download ADB.
Link here: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip​And unzip it to somewhere on your computer.​
Step 3: Setup your phone
Go to Settings > System > About Phone, and tap "Build Number" 7 times to unlock Developer mode. Go back to System, and tap Developer Options. Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging.​
Step 4: Unlocking your device
Connect your phone to your PC via USB. Make sure you select "Transfer files" when the message pops up on your phone, and select Trust this computer when the debugging warning pops up. Open your ADB folder, hold Shift and right-click, then select "Open Powershell window" or "Open command prompt". In the next window, type "adb devices" and make sure your device is listed (If not, check to make sure USB debugging is enabled, or reconnect the USB cable.)​After that, type "adb reboot bootloader". Once that is done, type "fastboot oem unlock xxx" (replace xxx with the unique code you purchased in Step 1). Warning! This will format your phone and return it to stock configuration. Your phone now has an unlocked bootloader!​
Step 5: Install Magisk Manager.
Download and install the Magisk Manager app on your phone. APK here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/manager-v6.0.1/MagiskManager-v6.0.1.apk​
Step 6: Flashing twrp and Magisk
Download the latest twrp image: https://dl.twrp.me/kirin/ and place it into your ADB folder.​Then download this magisk ZIP: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v17.1/Magisk-v17.1.zip and place it on a spare Micro SD card, and put that card in the device.​Reconnect your device to the PC, again open a Powershell/Command Prompt (as in Step 4).​Type "adb reboot bootloader", then type "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp-kirin.img". This should complete successfully. Turn off your device by holding down the power button.​Disconnect the phone from USB (do not skip this part otherwise you are unable to boot into recovery). Then hold "Volume UP" and "Power" until the blue Honor logo shows up. Release both buttons. You should see a Teamwin logo and twrp will load.​This version of twrp is a work in progress so the touchscreen does not work (this is currently being worked on by the folks at twrp builder https://twrpbuilder.github.io/. As soon as they fix it, I will update this guide!). A temporary fix is by using an OTG Cable https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51HI4XhstKL._SX425_.jpg and a standard USB mouse. Use it to swipe-right and select "Install". You might need to "Select storage" and choose your SD card. Find the Magisk zip and install it, then reboot.​
Your Honor 8x phone is now rooted!

Edit: I will provide some instructions below if you wish to do a ota update to a newer version of EMUI (one of which was released recently for the Honor 8x).
* The root must be removed, and phone restored to factory stock before doing a ota update. The bootloader will remain unlocked (no change).
* Stock factory firmware currently can be restored in the Huawei eRecovery by restarting your phone, then on the "Your device has been unlocked" screen, press "Up" for three seconds. From here, you can download the latest version (This will format the phone). After updating, you must re-root from Steps 3 to 6 above (you can skip step 4).
* There should be an easier method to update without formatting, but the current version of twrp causes issues if you try and flash the update. (Error 9, as reported by some users)
I will update the guide when this is fixed.

I have been warned that this may not work for a Qualcomm chipset. Will update if there is any further information about that.

To my knowledge, only the 8x Max has a Qualcomm chipset. All of the regular 8x devices have a Kirin one.

Interesting to see a TWRP build for the new Kirin 710. @chickenwingding Do you think that they will be able to make Nova 3i a TWRP build too? I still didn't unlock it, but I'm going to do it soon, and I've never ported recoveries before, and because this is my first Kirin device I would like some help regarding that. But looking at the log of their app it looks like they reject Huawei/Honor devices now. How did you get them to build Honor 8X TWRP?

I purchased my honor 8X (AL00a) from China and its developer page doesn't have "OEM Unlock" option. It is not there... Believe me... So, even if I can get an unlock code, I will not able to unlock it. Right? Do you know any solution about that? Huawei closed all ways I guess...

The Nova 3i uses the same SoC as the Honor 8x, so the same recovery image might work for it. And the twrp builder group don't do Huawei/Honor anymore because the company stopped providing bootloader unlocks, so it's very difficult (and expensive) for new owners to root their phone. They said it's not worth developing for newer Huawei devices anymore. The reason they did it for me was because I promised them a cash donation.

Not really. It's the same story for all new Huawei/Honor devices, since they stopped supporting bootloader unlocks.

Hello, i bought on ebay Honor 8x 6/128 JSN-AL00 which is not avalible in Europe(Poland)-here we got only 4/128. Im waiting for package from China. In Europe(Poland) there is LTE frequency B1(2100) and B3(1800+). Can i do something with the smartphone from China to unlock this frequences in my new Huawei Honor 8x? Is there some options to turn it on after rooting? Thx for answer. Best regards Paul.

Hey Guys,
After seeing a lot of users falling in trouble by flashing the 21 files to convert Chinese Tencent Games Rom to WW (International) Rom -
(It's actually by users fault for falling in trouble as many ignored or forgot the Bootloader unlock step)
I thought I'll attempt convert mine too, But as intended or done by the official Means.
What's Missing from Asus Web-page Firmware
So after a bit of reading into Asus and ROG History, and thanks to the guidance by yakapa40 posted over here, I have learned the following.
* On the Asus Webpage, The Firmware provided by Asus are only for Official OTA Updates.
* These firmware does not include a recovery partition which is mandatory for a clean flash.
* By forcefully flashing these firmware, You can boot the device - but you cannot change the recovery (Boot Image Fingerprint will always remain what was on the device)
* Negatives of this is that you cannot Re-Lock the bootloader, Causing SafetyNet to fail where GooglePay and certain banking apps will fail top open on your device.
Where Things Went Wrong
* Many users followed the 21 File Flash method to convert their Chinese Tencent Games Devices to WW (International) Firmware. This flashed the IMG files via Fastboot to the device, Partition by Partition
* Many Succeeded while a few got into bootloops - Majorly caused by not unlocking teh bootloader
* Asus Bootloader so far cannot be unlocked in Fastboot - You need to boot to Rom and use their official APK to unlock the bootloader
How to actually convert the CN Device to WW (International) Rom by clean official means
* So Asus has a different set of firmwares known as RAW Firmware which includes all partitions of the rom. These are not freely available, and only available in ASUS Service Centers.
* Flashing a Raw firmware completely overrites all partitions successfully converting the device to the edition of the Zip you obtained
* Currently I have only WW - 16.0622.1906.19_M3.13.33.20-1.1.93 Version which is the latest for WW at the time of typing this article.
Actual Guide
Remember, You're on your own from here. Follow the steps carefully, and patiently. If something breaks or blows up - You're on your own.
- This guide only applies to ASUS ROG II (SKU : ZS660KL)
* Ensure to log out from your Google Account Signed in on the device. If you forget this step, Later on, you'll be locked at first boot due to Google's FRP.
* Do not attempt this on x86/32bit operating systems. Some users have reported bricking issues due to RAW flasher not supporting 32bit Operating Systems.
* Download the WW (International ROM) file at the end of this post (This is if you're coming from CN Rom to International Rom)
* Extract all contents as is to your C: Drive
* (Refer to attached image for the file list)
* Connect the Phone to the PC in Fastboot Mode - Using the Black Type-C Port on the Side of the Device (Not the Charging port on the bottom)
- ROG 2 Fastboot Method
* Power off the device completely.
* Press and Hold Volume-Up Key
* Press the Power key for 2 seconds and release it while continuing to hold the Volume-Up Key
* You will be in a Menu with multiple options such as Recovery, Reboot.. This is the Fastboot Mode.
* After connecting via Fastboot Mode, Navigate to the Firmware extracted folder
* Double-Click and Run flashall_AFT.cmd - A Dos Command window will open and show some information
* Leave your PC for 5 - 10 Mins, Even if nothing moves in the command window - This is normal - It will not show any progress bar. It will just say completed after done, and the device will restart itself.
* After restarting, It is important to do a Factory Wipe. Come back to Fastboot Mode, Switch through volume keys and select Recovery Mode - Then Select Wipe/Data Factory Reset.

* If you are currently bricked, You can use the above flash guide to recover from it

Relocking Bootloader
* Thanks to our respondent pd0200426 We can now safely re-lock the bootloader.
* WARNING : This needs to be done "ONLY" right after a Stock Rom Raw flash. Attempting to lock at any other condition might brick your device.
How To:
* Turn off Device and Boot into Fastboot Mode
* From Windows CMD - Type

fastboot oem asus-csc_lk
* Reboot the Device.
* If it shows some error, Reboot to Fastboot, Then Recovery and Wipe/Factory Reset the Rom.
* Re-Locking Bootloader restores your Widevine DRM back to L1. (Screenshot Attached for reference)

* Relock the Bootloader - Since ASUS does not have a fastboot command to lock or relock, We need to find a method to cleanly lock it back. [DONE - Thread UPDATED]

None of these work on the ROG II.
Working ones say permission denied.

* No Need to unlock Bootloader beforehand.
* As long as the bootloader is not unlocked, You will continue to receive FOTA on official non-rooted firmware.
* If FOTA is not possible, You can always manually update using the ASUS Webpage.

What about OTA updates?
Do you think that the bugs of WW rom (dual band wifi) is software related ?

OTA Updates : Gotta wait till the next one to check. However, I Can assure you it works after relocking the bootloader.
Dual Band WiFi - It's a common misconception.
Dual Band WiFi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Both are working fine.
I have attached a screenshot from my device running WW firmware for your reference.
What's not working is Dual WiFi (Storm Network Acceleration) - Which is a gaming feature under Armoury Crate. This function allows you to connect to two separate WiFi networks.
This feature is not visible in WW Firmware and even on the Chinese firmware this gets disabled after first reboot as it's still in beta. (Also attached a Screenshot)

I don't know if LTE bands are software related ir not :S

Thats only if u did unlock ur boatloder before for rooting or trying the first 21 files methods
So... U need to relock ur boatloder to active OTA update...
But if ur phone is unteched CN firmware device ...its just of doing what is mentioned whitout doing anything to the boatloder ..

You should consider when publicly sharing raw files and flash instructions. Asus will have more stringent measures for later versions, many such cases!

Just wanted to clarify that if I do this, will this automatically factory reset my phone? If not, is it recommended to factory reset the phone?

Officially no, but for me and several others it still worked, even with an EU phone.
I had to upgrade to Android 10 and then follow the steps described here:

Btw., it's better to stick to the official post from realme I linked above, apps and links on youtube could be malicious.

I am using RM5P Indian version. The youtube link is safe. I didn't find any issues.
More than that, this apk was already listed in xda by faisalxp. I realized that late.

AFAIK, installing this apk and getting into fastboot wont do any harm to your mobile.
Unlocking BL will erase all your data.

Yes, that's exactly what I was on before unlocking and rooting (INDIAN version).
Install adb and fastboot drivers in PC.
Good practice is to put all the necessary files in the C:/adb folder for installing twrp recovery.
Backup your data/pictures/notes etc first to pc.
Enable OEM unlock in Developer options. Enable USB debugging.
Install deep test apk and follow the instructions and get into FASTBOOT.
In fastboot type: fastboot flashing unlock and enter, and then unlock.

I only suggest you to install fastboot on your phone. No harm in it.
But before unlocking, please confirm with your similar phone user because this is not the time to experiment.

Not sure why.
Which command you typed in fastboot?
fastboot flashing unlock - if this command gave you this error. Try the regular one
fastboot oem unlock.

Can we relock the bootloader with this? I unlocked my bootloader on ColorOS 6 and then updated my phone to Realme UI via OTA, now I want to lock the bootloader but idk how.

Yes, you can use the app prompt "Apply to exit in-depth test". It will reboot to Fastboot where you need to type the command to lock.
Fastboot help - will give you all the commands available.
Commands available:
locking/unlocking:
Fastboot flashing lock|unlock Lock/unlock partitions for flashing
I suggest you research a bit more. Phone might get bricked. Do it at your own risk.
You should not be on TWRP, go back to official recovery.
If you have rooted, UNROOT first and do the rest.

Actually when i press that button it shows this "You can only apply to exit in-depth test after carrying out bootloader lock operation in fastboot mode".
so I went into fastboot mode and used the command fastboot flashing lock it wiped my data and rebooted to welcome screen (language region setup)
Should I now use the app to "Apply to exit in-depth test"? or don't use the app?
