modded app sig conflict

This has probably been answered, so you can all laugh at me and point me in the right direction at the same time.
On my shiny new M8, Twitter and Facebook came preinstalled as system apps.
I took the latest version of each app (from the Play Store) and pushed my own hd-ish notification pngs into each apk. Then I signed them and tried to side load them on the M8. I got the conflicting signature error message. So I tried copying the META-INF and androidmanifest from the play store version to my modded version. Nothing.
So I tried uninstalling the system versions with RootUninstaller. The apps can be frozen, but not uninstalled. If I uninstall them, they just magically reappear when I exit RootUninstaller.
I am at a loss of what to try next. I know the simplest solution would be to uninstall the system version then side load my own modded version, but it seems the M8 doesn't want to get rid of it's system version of Twitter & Facebook. I've also tried using the SE Linux Mode changer before uninstalling and no dice.
Any suggestions?

You need a custom kernel, the system partition is not writable. There was a kernel module written by a dev here.
You could probably do it from a recovery too. Hmm. Maybe fastboot boot a custom recovery and use the file manager? Just guessing now. It will probably break OTAs, too, so keep a backup of them.

I don't have a custom kernel, I can write, delete, move anything I want in system. I'm rooted and unlocked boot loader with s-off, but thought all that was required to make changes to system is root?

Yeah, someone mentioned it only takes s-off to modify the system partition...but I could be wrong.

Maybe S-Off also disables the shadow system partition, but root is not enough, which is why the custom kernel module was written.

LG G3 disabled by kill switch

Hello guys, i want to update my lg to 6 android, but i cant go to download mode. I just rooted my phone, with titaniumbackup i deleted mcafee program ir my phone. BUT, i cant go to download mode anyway What should i do ..? :/

More information needed.
- What model G3 do you have?
- What Android version is currently running on the phone?
- After successfully rooting, did you install a custom recovery? If so, which one?
- Why are you attempting to go into Download mode?
- What exactly happens when you attempt to go into Download mode? Does it reboot immediately or give you an error message?
- When first powering on the device, do any error messages appear above the LG logo? If so, what do they say?

I got D855, now running lollipop 5.0 android, after root, i didnt install custom recovery. I want to go to download mode to install marshmallow 6.0 android soft, when i go into download mode, it says disabled by kill switch, like mcafee is still running on my phone. No error messages.

After some searching I found a post in a thread that may be useful to you. In short, it looks like you have to contact McAfee. If you can prove you are the owner of the G3, they will provide a 6-digit pin to unlock the Kill Switch. It looks like from the thread that it can be done online on their website. I found no other option to unlock the Kill Switch.

You only deleted the McAfee app, not the entire McAfee. Re-install the app from a backup and press the 3 dots in the upper right in the McAfee app. I read somehwere that you can find information you need in there. If that fails, just call em.

How can i do backup? Becouse i didnt done it before :/

Hello guys. One year ago i installed skydragon ROM and everything was ok. But now id like to reinstall my Rom to newer one. But i dont remember how i did it so could anyone help me? I actualy started to have some problems. My screen turns itself on randomly, pages refreshes or falls to main desktop randomly. If i use safe mode it is ok so its probably some of my applications. But i want to reinstall my phone so its like a new one(its ok with a custom rom ,i just need some recommended roms) so please if anyone could help me, i would be so happy.

Backup all of your data, whether it be twrp or titanium
download the rom of your choice, id suggest leedroid or android revolution for you as they are close to stock
copy to phone, wipe data and flash in twrp recovery (im assuming you have it as you have skydragon installed)
then restore your data through titanium.
You may have issues if your firmware is out of date, however I have not updated mine for a long period and it is still working fine. There are plenty of threads that can direct you through the process.

Thanks alot. And what types of custom roms exist? I mean how do are they different? And i read on other forum that i have to do something with kernel? But i totaly forgot what is that

And id like to ask, if i can somehow backup my apps settings and saves from games for example?

Some ROMs are GPE (Google Play Edition) or AOSP; both mean no Sense. Others are Sense based, but with various tweaks, customization options, etc. But you need to read the ROM threads to see the differences; and how they relate to your needs and preferences.

Unless you have the Sprint or Verizon M8, you don't need to do anything with the kernel. The kernel installs automatically when you flash a ROM.

Sense is HTC's "skinning" or customization of the Android OS. They add their own version of some apps, modified the launcher, icons, etc. as a means to differentiate their devices from the competition.
Not everyone likes that, so there is also a Google Play Edition of the M8, which is an Android version close to "pure" Android such as on Nexus devices. GPE ROMs are based on the official HTC released GPE version OS (although custom GPE ROMs may have tweaks and customizations of their own).
While AOSP ROMs such as Cyanogenmod and others are compiled from source code, and constitute "original work". But again, they don't have Sense customizations, and are close to "pure" Android.

So i flashed the newest skydragon ROM but after i installed it and used recovery(from twrp or what is the name) i recovered my data (apps etc) but my notification bar and home button wasnt there. I tried to flash it many times but it was the same.

Did you check the Skydragon thread to see if its a reported issue (and if so, there may be a fix posted)? That should always be the first thing to check when encountering issues after a ROM flash.
It sounds like you migrated user data using TWRP? I don't personally recommend it, as it often leads to issues, especially if the ROM is significantly different/updated than what you were using before.
Does the issue occur if you clean flash the ROM (default wipe in TWRP, then flash the ROM) and do not restore user data?

Ye the error isnt there if i dont recover my data. But i want to have apps etc there. So is there some way to backup them? Also sms, phone calls etc.

I always use the app Titanium Backup to migrate my app data. IMO its also well worth the few $ for the paid pro key, to enable the batch functions (you can backup/restore all your user apps with just a few taps). Titanium is a very useful and reliable tool for ROM flashers.
Restore the data with TWRP, then back up your user apps and app data with Titanium. Wipe in TWRP. Then reboot and restore the apps in Titanium, and all should be good.
You can also use Titanium to backup and restore your SMS (backup app data "Dialer Storage") and call log ("Contacts Storage"). But be careful about restore any system data, since that is usually when the bugs pop up.

Hello, i tried the titanium backup but i have many many apps there and it wanted me to confrim every one one by one when installing which is pretty annoying while i have many apps. Also i thought about other roms, but i cant find here on xda developers any "comparing stats" or something. And mostly i cant find where are some cons and pros of the roms. Only last update notes... im really dumb or idk, cant really find anything.

Also i want to ask if its possible to remove car mode somehow? Cause my phones somehow sometimes thinks that im in a fckin car and uses car mode which interrups my app or refreshes page or light my screen..

Phone encrypted startup & i forgot the pattern

i have the phone updated to android pie and rooted with magisk the latest version and i have twrp recovery on it
but while installing one of the mods (youtube vanced) and after it rebooted the phone asked for my pattern (not on the lock screen but the encrypted startup feature which i didn't turn on but i have changed my pattern a few days ago but i use the fingerprint always on the phone)
i forgot the pattern for the phone and i tried on it and it says 9 more tries and my phone will be wiped
is there a way to find the pattern on my google account since it's linked to the phone and it automatically uploads it to the cloud ? or is there a way to bypass it ?
Note:i know it sound like i stole the phone but i have proof of ownership if anyone wants(the box and the google account linked to it are mine and is linked to this account)

Do you have access on twrp? If entered first time pattern should be saved and you can access data.
Simply reboot in twrp, if no pattern is asked make a backup of data partition (that will be unencrypted) just in case you will need to wipe and search for a way to access twrp-saved pattern.
You could also try the google feature "find my device" and change pattern, but as phone its encrypted i dont really think it will work.

sadly the "find my phone" doesn't help
and in TWRP it asks for the key too and when i press cancel and try to go to data/system where the pass key is there is nothing (it must be encrypted as well)
and twrp says that my data is 0mb and can't even back it up because it's encrypted

Ok, but it doesnt say that data will be wiped, so you can try a lot of patterns.
Unfortunatelly theres no way to bypass because data is encrypted, you should try again and again and prepare yourself for a complete wipe.

That's some bugs I've heard about it.on the post it recommends not useing that one for pie.u might want to look on Google I did see something about a emcrptiin patch

Whatsapp Media Bug

So basically, I have downloaded the latest supported device version (MIUI Global 12.0.2 Stable) and after that I noticed that I cannot use whatsapp the way I am supposed to. I don't know if it's the update or the fact that I had whatsapp beta and they did some mistakes. In the whatsapp beta version I noticed that I dont get any notification sound when I receive a message. After the update I decided to opt out of the beta program and hope that I will be able to downgrade to the official version from the playstore. Turns out that I have to reinstall whatsapp which will make me lose all my chats if I don't create a backup.
The Problem: Backups do not work. Not on google drive or at my local storage, i've tried both with and without media selected. The message I always get is "Unable to back up messages". When I receive an image, a video or a voice memo on the other hand it says "Unable to download media" and I am stuck on the preview. I really need those chats on my phone but I also cannot wait for the next official update, also I cannot download the latest beta version because the program is full. I'd really appreciate if some of you can help me since I've always found a solution on this forum.

for media write give it storage access

I have the exact same problem since I donwload 12.0.2. I have tried what loopypalm recommended but doesn't work. I'm currently searching for a solution, if I find something I'll leave another comment here.

They all recomended that -sadly- the only way to fix it is to reinstall the app. Yes, you are going to loose your chats and stuff if you don't have a recent backup but its the only way that worked for them and aslo has worked for me. I thought about reinstalling a few hours later since the bug appeared but was trying to find other ways. So, yeah. It worked for me for now... btw i found varios threads on reddit talking abut this issue. Here is two of them:

they do this on purpose
first they nerfed the camera quality in their last A10 and 11 builds (thankfully there is a camera libs patch for custom roms)
and i keep hearing miui bugs everyday (BT/wifi speed/wsp/ ...)

thank you for your help. I've done some research myself since i've managed to replace my whatsapp with the newest version. However this didn't fix my issue, I only got the notifications to work. Sadly, uninstalling is not an option for me since i've got very personal and important chats which I don't want to lose. I guess I will just wait and see if I ever get it fixed, maybe one day I might get to a point where I don't need those messages anymore, who knows.
EDIT: I am waiting 168 hours for the fastboot unlock, I might just flash a custom rom over my current data if that works and hope that this will fix it.

Unlocking the bootloader process will format data
and even on unlocked BL ,Miui data are not compatible with any custom rom (except miui mods)
i don't use wsp but i think it creates a folder on internal storage with chat (crypted) and media (audio+video) and backups ,so whenever you install a new version i detect it
i'm not sure but your best bet is to copy that folder to PC and restore it after flash and hope it work

thanks for the info, i guess my only option is to just wait and hope that it will get fixed by either whatsapp or xiaomi side.

K, nice to know. I am still on miui sadly, rooted, but I would like to know more about this patches on camera. Will work on a stock miui?
