Darkview? - Device Reviews and Information

I've recently been given a 'stand in' phone until I get my next decent phone, so I'm messing around on an S5, quite surprised how good they still are for their age!
But this other phone, it's a bog standard Android, dual SIM heap of **** as far as I can tell?
As soon as I typed the name into the XDA search bar the app crashed and showed a report error sent to the XDA team.
Has anyone any worthwhile links to custom or even latest Android software that will run on this Trainwreck of a device?
Regards Smallz.

[Q] SprintFreeMSg "Just Because" perks?

Hello All,
Ok, I searched but nothing came up so don't shoot me if its been discussed before but.. Yesterday I received a text message from SprintFreeMsg about an chance to win stuff. Here's the message:
SprintFreeMsg: Thanks for your loyalty. Go the Distance for a chance to win a great getaway or new phone: h t t p:// (I'm not gonna put the rest of the URL in cause I'm not sure what it is)..
Anyway, I went to the URL on my laptop (it has virus protection) and it seemed like a very basic website with the Sprint Logo and an advertisement for an upcoming movie.
So my question is, did anyone else get this? Is this a common thing from Sprint? I'm relatively new to Sprint and while I've heard they offer stuff to customers, this just seemed rather odd and somewhat suspect and on the same day that a brand new virus for android was announced..
Any thoughts?
It's just to enter their contest to win an epic 4g, basically.

I got the text, never went to the link though.

Its very common for you to get messages from sprint. I get em all the time. Also, prepare to recieve a call from them about your recent purchase if they have not done so already. Oh I almost forgot, they also call randomly to see if you are satisfied with your plan.

I got it also, I never check up on that stuff

Thanks
Well ok, as long as its legitimate. The URL is what concerned me.. rather cryptic when well, at least in my mind, all you had to do what make it part of sprint.com and I would feel at ease to try visiting it.
Thanks again,

Tired of locked bootloader, call me a sellout.

I have decided that I can not deal with the locked bootloader on this tablet and have chosen to sell it (got more then I paid). The A100 is a wonderful tablet and has great potential but the lack of developers and dead end bootloader is a showstopper.
I am waiting for another brand 7 inch tablet to arrive by Fedex later this week. It has the same basic specs as the a100. CWM is already available and there is a small amount development going on. But it is new on the market. No ICS yet. There is some talk in getting CM9 on it.
It is really disappointing that the 10 inch tabs are getting all of the glory, I really think the 7 inch is the best size for carrying with you.
see yah!
The locked bootloader isn't a big deal for me because the tab already does everything I want it to do. The only thing that could make this tab already better than what it is would be the unlocked bootloader that way we could look at different rom options (but to be honest the rom that's currently there isn't that bad at all). Granted it would be nice to overclock, but its already pretty fast and I haven't really had any hiccups while using it since I released the custom build.prop (except for using hdmi which I'm working on).
I think eventually we'll get some sort of work around for the bootloader working, its just a matter of time. I'm definitely not going to drop this tab though just because we don't have it figured out yet.
I do wish there was someone other than myself that's taken an interest in this tab that knows their way around custom recoverys and bootloaders since that's not one of my strong points but at least I'm trying to help.
I wont call you a sell out, but I will wish you good luck with your new device and happy modding!

Never really understood why people have to announce that they're dumping their device and leaving the forum. Has anyone ever seen a community beg a person PLEASE keep their tablet/phone/etc and stay?

I agree, but everyone is entitled to thier opinion. I personally don't care how bad you thought it sucked and what you're replacing it with. If you don't have anything useful to contribute don't bother posting. For me these "goodbye" types of posts fall into that catagory.
That's just my own opinion though.

I actually like my A100 and plan to hold on to it for a while.
Is that okay with everyone?
(Of course if someone wanted to pay me enough for it so I could buy the next, better thing....)
to OP good luck with your future endeavors as I am sure you will have new things you will complain about your new device seeing how you would post something like this.
And crossix thank you for all your hard work. I really wish I knew more than I could to help you and others out but I try to put in where I can. We need more devs like you around here.

I think its a simple way of letting their frustrations go. I was just doing some research on this tab as I'd like to have a nice little 7 inch carry along but not so sure about it with the locked b/l and bad viewing angles.
Is the screen as bad as it looks in videos? From what I've seen and read this thing runs very smooth and lagfree, am I right about that?
Thanks for any info.

Theres really only 1 bad angle which is about 120 degrees towards the bottom. It gets darker. So jus flip it 180 in landscape and youre good. Left, right and top angle are great IMO. As far as speed. Here's one I posted....you be the judge....

The only lag I've ever experienced was when I was on the early 3.2 builds. After upgrading to the latest 3.2.1and running the custom build.prop, the only bit of lag I've seen is playing 720p video in flash and 720p software mode video on hdmi out. But my atrix had the same issue, so I think its just a limitation of stock tegra2. I resovled it on my atrix by overclocking, so if we ever find a method of running a custom kernel I think it'll be resolved.

I have never experienced any lag whatsoever in the a100. also, i have heard so much about the viewing angles, and as aznmode said, there is only one slightly off angle and there is no reason whatsoever to have to be looking in that angle unless you just choose to do so. I have several tabs and i use the acer more than the others combined because it does everything that is needed and it is very easy to carry around. Also I have hear reviewers complain about the battery, however i can useit on and off all day long without charging and also it charges twice as fast as most. i wouldn't hesitate to purchase this tab again, i would just love to see some more development. The rom itself is very fast and extremely stable, the only real complaint that i have about the tab is that i would like to see usb host mode working. i also wanted to say thanks to crossix and all of the other devs that have put alot of work into it so far!

If you have a big microsd card, you could swap it with the internal memory (I really need to add direct links to these things to my signature..).
Just out of curiosity has anyone contracted koush to see if he can unlock the bootloader. On his website he says that he just needs the tablet for about a week. I know that you guys have been working on it and have made some bits of progress, but maybe a new set of eyes might be helpful. I do support for two as we got the kids some for Christmas but I need to leave them stock so they can't get into and erase stuff they need for them to run.
Don't want to step on anyone's toes or if this has already been attempted just disregard.
Thanks to the developers for their work.

I started this thread when I was really pissed off at the A100. Between my touch screen failing and the many hours spent to get a working tun.ko on it. Due to the encrypted kernel I could not even load a kernel module.
To explain I need tun.ko and advanced routing so I can connect to a Cisco VPN for work. While waiting for my tab to be returned from service went to Best Buy and picked up the Samsung Galaxy tab plus, installed VPNC and it worked with no problem.
The A100 is a really nice device and for 90% of people it is perfect. I actually preferred the styling compared to the Samsung slab, but VPN is the reason I wanted a tab in the first place.
I wish you all good luck with cracking the bootloader.
I plan on keeping my a100 at least until I can afford a tegra 3 tab.

I use remote desktop with a virtual pc setup to connect up to my works Cisco VPN and it works really well, especially when I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected up to the tab (I also use this same setup with my atrix), it works great!
I also use this same setup for one of my clients Nortel Networks VPN which doesn't work at all on android nativity. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the a100 but for the price its hard to find fault with it.

Agreed the price is right.
The virtual PC solution is not an option since I not only need it for RDP and VNC but also to sync my contacts, email and calendar. I was connecting to my home VPN and then jumping through to work but I need my contacts and email in somewhat a real time solution.

Are you on Orange (UK)? If so, free food/coffee for you!

Starting in March and running until the summer, Orange are offering people with NFC-enabled smartphones free food/drinks/meal upgrades with the UK food chain EAT.
Users will have to tap their NFC phone on a special poster to then play a game which will reward a free gift.

Makes me glad I have a Galaxy Nexus on Orange, I love the perks
Free food?! Wonder if I pop my old orange sim in my Three Nexus, I can get me some of this?
Worth a shot!
Just need to find an Eat near me, and try it out next month!
The game element sounds a bit lame, hopefully it will only take a few seconds. Still pretty cool though.
I guess there aren't many Orange users here, I thought the news was awesome!

The terms and conditions state that they'll check your number against their database to make sure that it's on Orange - that's why the app needs a data connection to work. The application asks for permission to be able to access this information, so it seems you will need to be on Orange for this to work. Not sure if using a Pay as you go number will work, but I'll probably end up trying this at some point.
Not even 100% sure if this will work with the Galaxy Nexus. Don't the Orange Quick Tap phones have some sort of software installed on them?
I'll report back once I can find an Orange SIM card. If anyone has a spare SIM lying about, do PM me...

I was worried you might be right about this. After looking through various pages I eventually discovered the app on the Marketplace! So yes it will work for the Galaxy Nexus
Quick Tap Treats
It would appear the 'game' is simply to spin a wheel, giving you three choices. Pretty neat anyway.
Just as an update, I tried this out for the first time the other day, completely forgot about it.
I got a free baguette and it was damn tasty (even tastier because I got it for free muahaha).

[Q] Known issues for stock unrooted TmoUSA SGS3?

(Apologies if this has been covered recently, I didn't see anything similar in the first few pages)
After having the pleasure of MS deciding that my favorite phone (HD2) should be obsolete I upgraded to the HTC One S. I am now on my third One S and Tmobile has promised to swap it out for a different model (so long as I pay the $ difference) should I continue to have problems. My first choice thus far is the SGS3, but I want to make sure it isn't as worthless as the One S. Can anyone give me a good idea of what the current unresolved issues are with this phone, keeping in mind that I won't be rooting or loading custom roms?
Thanks!

As far as my phone is concerned, I cannot see any issues. I've had my phone since June 24 and everything on it works just fine as it should. It is the BEST phone I have ever had. Battery life is great and lasts all day. It also charges fast. Camera takes great pics and speeds are blazing fast. I have also reached the fasted download speeds I have ever obtained on a phone (about 28 Kbps). It has a beautiful huge screen and voice quality is awesome. It has enough memory that is almost never lags and can handle my 248 apps like nothing! After having owned 4 different HTC phones, I can honestly tell you, this is the best phone out there now.
after hating all my android phones but really wanting to stick with the operating system (i guess i'm stubborn and really didn't want to go to the iphone or windows phone haha) i actually switched to at&t and got the one x... after a week i couldn't stand it. from what i hear, everything i found wrong with the one x was wrong with the one s as well.
i'm back on t-mobile now and got sick of waiting for my eventual giving up and just jumping to the next iphone, and just got the galaxy s3 on saturday, and so far i couldn't be happier. i've never loved a phone like this before. all the problems that have plagued my previous phones from lockups to crashing to slowdown to everything else... haven't experienced ANY of it so far. there's nothing i'm not happy about with it. still plan on reading the xda boards but don't plan on rooting for a long time because there's really nothing i need to fix.
so anyway just wanted to throw that out at you cause it sounds like your'e kinda in my same shoes that i was last week haha.
wrong post - sorry
Best phone I have owned to date, and I have had just about every Samsung, HTC and iPhone ever made.

[Q] Am I the only one who enjoys this phone

I see post about laggy and blah blah I mean this phone isn't perfect but with some adjustments it's a bad ass phone I love it I mean I would love root but it's not a reason to return the phone or anything.. Just saying this phone is really good imho
I agree. It's just that the shortcomings are detrimental for the user experience depending on the issue.
I can see battery life being one if you're a busy person.
Touch screen will drive anyone absolutely bananas
All depends on the batch I guess
Im loving the phone, prob best I've had. Not having root is a small problem but I'll live with that. I've not had touch screen issues or over heating problems.
Its not you, people who are happy dont *****. You only hear the complainers, and there are always going to be people who expect manufactured products to be flawless with no exception or fail rate. Just not realistic. The phone is really nice, has great picture and a great camera.. I have owned several different brands and recently an S6. THere is nothing wrong with this phone. I do feel that at this current rate we may never see root, but i also find this being the first phone that would not be and end all problem for me. If you are happy with the phone, what else matters?
I love it. I do wish tap to wake and the knock code worked better, but they'll be fixed someday. They do seem to work better after rebooting, so I reboot occasionally throughout the day when I'm putting my phone away.
Once we get root and custom roms this phone will be awesome.
Be sure to block the OTA updates so the carriers can't prevent you from getting root!
The G4 is a very well balanced product. Like anything though it has its flaws and it won't please everyone, namely as we all have different likes but most important expectations.
I never expect for my phone's purchased to act like a time travelling device (although beam me up scotty that would be cool ?).
What i do expect is functionality and the G4 meets that for me. Just one thing that Google needs desperately is better optimisation between software & hardware.
Android M who knows may be the answer to our prayers.
But overall hell yeah the G4 is good ?
I think the phone is perfect in most all ways. Software can be buggy and lag at times but that will all get cleared up soon enough!
I upgraded from a Galaxy S5 and even though it isn't a huge leap in terms of performance and battery life (battery life quite the opposite, unfortunately) I enjoy my phone very much.
And as I have an international H815 I rooted it the first day I could unlock the BL. 10A was silky smooth and my only "regret" is that I actually flashed 10C. It's a bit less smooth, a bit laggier now and then. Could be an app too, though. So. all things considered I'm very happy. I don't understand why the leather back doesn't have Qi but that's a different beef ..
Great phone, great UI (though I hate having to use an app like ROM Toolbox to change font and the korean crap themes from LG are absolutely horrible).
Regarding all the threads about problems and issues .. Well, that's what XDA is mostly about. You don't need to discuss how great a phone works, you need to discuss and solve problems..
And since no one's, as far as I can understand it, developing custom roms/CM-builds for it yet all you could discuss are problems.
Does it seem like G4s have lots of issues? Not really. Considering the volumes of manufactured phones you will always have broken phones that slipped through quality control. Firmwares are tested but it's impossible to soak test/lab test a phone's software with every app in the App Store..
Not to mention issues with carriers like the retarded US carriers that disable features and sideload their own generic crapware apps and push updates like there's no tomorrow...
All the forums of all the phones I've had since I started reading XDA have looked exactly the same: Early adopters with, sometimes, premature software/firmware ***** and moan, after a while custom roms/root happen and people cheer like madmen, then ***** and moan about premature custom roms.
And the circlejerk is complete.

I have the H815 rooted with TWRP and I couldn't be happier with this phone. I don't have touch screen issues, or lag issues, or camera issues, etc. Coupled with the battery and sdcard promos, it was a win/win/win for me when I bought this phone.

I have actually been LOVING my G4. My old daily driver was the Galaxy Note Edge but then I stumbled on this fella (my first in the G-Series and second LG device) and kind of fell in love with it right off the bat.
So I ended up picking up one for a new daily driver. Right after that though I found out about the no-root issue so then I went out and picked up a couple more of them (I figure I might as well do my part as far as root goes and that will probably end with me bricking one or two of them, so better safe than sorry).
TL;DR -- Yes, I love the hell out of this phone.
