I picked up my Note 10+ about 3 weeks ago. Last Friday I ran my battery to 6% before I got to my car where I had a charger. Finally plugged in my phone and it was charging extremely slow (1-2% in 20 minutes of driving, no usage screen off). I have a duel USB plug, so I switched to the other plug. Right when I plugged it into the other one, I got the moisture detected error. Restarted the phone, and right at boot there's a notification talking about waiting for connection to a PC or something. It's never been connected to a computer mind you. The moisture detected error hasn't gone away since. I've gone as far as doing a full factory reset.
My question is; is there a fix or do I have to call Samsung for a hardware issue?
This sounds like maybe some dirt got inside USB port and is shorting a pin, or lint makes bad connection? Before resetting or doing something drastic first I would try another wire, then I would blow some clean, dry air into USB port to clean it. Use flash light, maybe can see some obstruction? If that don't work clear cache, then reset, then trip to Samsung in that order. This is all assuming the USB port is not actually wet, but I guess that would be the first thing and already checked.

You probably got the phone wet. That should go away after a day or so, it's Samsung's safeguard against damage to the phone but it definitely is annoying. When I had my S8+ I would get that every so often after being in the pool with it. I always used wireless charging so the error never bothered me.

Tried all those, was hoping there was something else instead of waiting for Samsung to send me a new (possibly refurbished) one.

It happened Friday, it's now Monday. If it were water it would have popped up right when I plugged it in the first time, not after switching USB ports in my car.

This is a long known issue since type c ports appeared, at least with samsung S and note devices, I encounterd it in my note 7 and 8, it is very hot and humid where I live, any lint or tiny piece of debris can collect moisture, in my case I just cleaned the port by blowing air into it, on a regular basis
I experienced this behavior with my old Note 9 now and then. There was no moisture. The only solution was restart.
I had this problem on my note 9.. Did blow dry.. Factory reset.. Changing charger cable n every possible solution mentioned online.. Dint help..
Middle of a night some weird idea struck suddenly! i WASHED the usb port under running water.. Let it dry till morning n plugged the charger.. Voila! Problem gone that never returned!
This is what happened to me on my Note 9. I found this solution somewhere but can't remember where.
Go to Settings>Apps>Go To Menu Icon and select Show System Apps>scroll to USBSettings>Click storage>Clear Data & Cache.
Hope this helps.
note 10+ got an update last night and after that this message hasnt went away. Ive tried every solution here different cable, alcohol, toothpick, qtips, clearing cache on USB settings EVERYTHING. Nothing has worked how do I disable this stupid ****. The alarm is annoying and my phone is now at 5%.
Anyone?

You've gotta give XDA users a little more than 2 hours...
If your hardware is faulty, which it now unfortunately sounds like, your only option is to speak to Samsung.
If the port is dry and free from debis, there isn't much else to do.
Spammy is at it again, Anyway to remove the charing notification that dims the screen and appears in the middle of the screen?
Charing cable is loose and when driving it keeps dimming the screen while trying to use GPS, man Spammy your a big time FAILURE !!
Just ran into this problem tonight.....googled, tried all the force close/clear data etc solutions and none worked....then stumbled across my post on the 1st page....did that and it instantly worked......
Power off phone, connect charger and then (instantly) press power button for 2 or 3 seconds...(in my experience, hold it for less time then would constitute a boot up sequence) ....it then immediately showed the "powered off" charging ring with percentage.. then i did a longer press to get it to boot....all is well now, charging again.

Some sort of contamination. Good fix.
Best to use distilled or RO water.
A anhydrous isopropyl chaser rinse afterwards perhaps as well.
The warning is a good safety feature; charging with wet contacts can greatly accelerant corrosion and short out or damage contact surfaces. Sweat has a lot of sodium chloride in it too, not what you want to have on 2 metal surfaces with a voltage potential between them.
I had it activate once from rain. Lol, no port cover.
Carefully used a blower bulb to help it dry. The warning normally should clear once the moisture is gone. Do not use high pressure compressed air.
Low pressure, dry air will most times do the trick if mere moisture exposure is the cause.

That's crazy, I've also tried everything, (cleaning, resetting etc) and nothing worked, but this tip worked. I had to try 3/4 times because the timing is very important but right now is charging, let's see if it will last or the problem will come back again.
In the meanwhile, thanks man!
I solved it going to download mode, disconnecting device, restarted and connected to the battery charger...
it's very strange

One more thing to note (ha!)
The other day when i had this issue and fixed it, it happened again....after resetting it a 2nd time i plugged in and slightly wiggled charger plug....and sure enough it popped up again.....i immediately assumed my charging port was going bad...while Google-ing the replacement method i stumbled across a YouTube video where the guy mentions using a pin to "dig" around the sides of the charging port...and sure enough out popped a good amount of pocket lint...once cleared out, no more wiggling and no more error....So definitely give that a shot if the problem seems to persist after clearing the message. Saved me a headache and some dough!

Hey guys,
I've had my GN for about a week now with absolutely no problems until tonight. I went to bed with my phone plugged up into the charger thru the wall and when I woke up it was still at 73%
Tried unplugging and plugging back it but the phone won't even detect that the charger is even plugged in. So I tried plugging it up to my computer and it still won't detect anything. The charger is still in perfect condition and I tried plugging into the car charger, but it will slowly charge.
you know when you plug in your usb cord to a computer or charger....that little icon on the top left pops up with the usb icon on the top left
well..i tried plugging in my phone to charge thru the outlet but it won't detect it so i took it out and tried to plug it thru the computer..but my cpu won't detect anything either
also
You know how when you plug it up to your computer and you hear that chime indicating that your has recognized it as a media dive. Well, my computer won't even pick it up / recognize it anymore
I've rooted this phone, but I've done nothing else with the phone. I rooted it last week, but did't have problems until last nite. It was charging just fine when I went to bed, but woke up and it just stopped charging
Just an obvious question so forgive me if you've already tried this. Have you done a battery pull to fully reset things and see if that helps? If it's a h/w problem it won't have any impact and probably means an exchange is in order.

Yeah I'm doing that right now. I completely took out the battery and put it back it back in with no luck
I've been using the extended battery. SO i took that one out and replaced it with the stock battery and still no luck

Weird; I currently have the phone plugged into my computer....it seems to charge just fine ONLY if I have it faced DOWN
Would that mean it is a cable issue?
try pushing the cable upwards to see if it makes contact...i had a problem with my usb cable and had to change it.

you can always unroot the phone if you need to send it in. I would slightly jiggle the cable when charging, maybe its a loose charge port on the device itself.
Have you had a good look inside the phone's USB plug and the USB cable plug? There might be something stuck up inside one of them. If so, you can clean it up with 99% alcohol, or contact cleaner by dabbing some on a soft toothbrush and scrubbing it out. Phone off, battery out of course.

You press the tip bristles up inside the usb connector and flick downward, avoiding other areas. And the brush doesn't need to be drenched. Alcohol won't phase it unless you spill it all over the device, the alcohol quickly evaporates...considering alcohol comes in a plastic bottle.
i had this problem with my stock phone.. turned off phone and it would charge... i let it go to 100 and did battery pull and worked fine ever since

man, spoke to soon..... been a while since it happend , but now its happening again...
charging while phone is off seems to do the trick....
what is also wierd is that i plugged it in while the phone was off for about 5 mins and turned on the phone.... it went from 12% battery to 45%
I've just been charging it faced down. Where is the cheapest place I can buy a whole new charger?
Hi Guys, long time lurker and flasher, first time poster.
I've had a Galaxy Nexus for a few months, and love it. Flashed a million different roms, all is generally well.
Starting a few days ago, my phone started beeping and waking up. Upon closer inspection, it's because it thinks it is being plugged in and unplugged, up to twice a second. If phone is locked in my pocket, it wakes it up and annhilates my battery D:
Do I have a faulty motherboard/charge IC/socket? I've tried a wipe/reflash of the rom I was using, as well as a few others, and the issue persists.
It's also extremely intermittent. One minute it's spamming the plug/unplug messages, then it'll be fine for a few hours, then it'll wake up randomly, then nothing again.
Anyone else had any similar issues or have I got a dead phone? It's still under warranty, so that's good.
THANKS
A similar problem with mine started yesterday. At random times, the lock screen says it is charging when it's not plugged in. Plugging it in sometimes causes it to stop displaying "charging" and unplugging it makes it say charging again. Reboots and reflashes don't help. When I get home, I'm going to switch batteries and see if that helps, otherwise i'm thinking it's a hardware problem.

I changed batteries and it worked for several hours, but then I plugged the phone into a charger and the problem came back. I cleaned out the USB port with a brush and now the problem is gone for now, but it could easily come back later. Turns out this is a common problem and there are many thing that may help, but it may just need replaced. Some things to try:
battery pull
sim card pull
use only the "official" samsung charger
let battery drain to 0% then full charge
clean usb port with brush and/or compressed air and/or denatured alcohol on a brush with phone turned off
carefully bend the tab in the usb port upward
clear dalvik/cache etc
factory reset
repair/replacement
from most of the posts that i have read about this it seems that its most likely down one of 2 things:
1: There being dirt inside the usb post - possible solution try cleaning out with a toothbrush/ cotton bud VERY CAREFULLY
2: The pins inside of the ubs socket being bent and touching, this makes the phone think that its charging. - possible solution VERY CAREFULLY try bending the pins back into the standard position, so they aren't touching.
Hope this helps.
I've noticed this is a typical Samsung issue might gf s2 does exactly the same ....

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll give them a shot and let you know. I've got a heap of air dusters at work, and some really fine gentle toothbrushes, so hopefully it'll be all good.
I really don't want to deal with warranty claims if it's a faulty phone :'(
My problem came back last night after brushing the usb port. I looked inside the port with a magnifier and it looked like a birds nest in there. I took a dental pic and spent 20 minutes digging out gunk, spraying electric contact cleaner on a brush and brushing it out, blowing it out, and repeating. That deep cleaning seems to have worked.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
That worked for me too. I used a toothpick soaked in rubbing alcohol and a can of air pulled out lots of black gunk on the contacts as well as lint. I have had plenty of android devices but surely none have ever had a problem like this. Glad to find a solution thanks.
Get a replacement!
Had the same thing happen to me unfortunately I wasn't covered under warranty.
Tried every thing and it always came back!
Got a new phone (this time nothing but the stock usb charger) and no problems yet.

A few days ago, my Nexus stopped charging while turned on.
I noticed that it still charged when the phone was off. So, I started turning it off @ night to charge it.
Well now... for some reason when I plug the phone in while it's off, it shows me the charging animation (the battery filling up), but then all of a sudden it shows a battery with a bolt running through it (im assuming this means fully charged) and then it does the animation again.
Wtf is happening??
thanks guys.

It sounds like the 'Ghost charging' issue. See if the small pin in the Micro USB port is touching something. Look very carefully! If so, try to bend that pin slightly up just so it doesn't touch the surrounding.
If that doesn't help. Buy a replacement port for like 6 USD. Replacing it will take you at most 15 minutes including re-assembly.
Some people reported problems with using LED controller apps like light flow and flashlight apps, try uninstalling any that you may have and see if the problem is resolved, if not then what the guy above suggested seems to be the only solution
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I had something like that before ... my mobile shows it is charging while not plugged in, sometimes it wakes up and sleeps many times repeatedly as if I'm plugging but and unplugging it again ... finally I found people talking about the problem and the solution was using the original cable for charging ... if not solved yet you can do what I did, clean the micro USB port using a small brush and the last thing you can do if not solved , you can left up the micro USB pin using a thing clip, and that's what solved the problem for me ..

hmm... any more input from you guys?
I did a restore so there shouldn't be any apps keeping it from charging now.

only bend it up if you can see it touches the surrounding. Bend it up with the smallest thing you can find that fits in there. BE CAREFULL! do not use force. You need to use little power to lift it up. I myself never had this issue but I did read alot posts related to this. And lifting the horizontal pin up solved it for most of the people that sufferd from this issue.
One question: Did you ever use any charger except for the standard Galaxy Nexus charger? (Including car chargers and such)

no. never. If I mess up, will replacing the charging port resolve the issue?
Bending the pin up resolve the issue for me. The problem returns back after a charge and unplug perhaps pushing the pin back into wrong position. I uninstalled lightflow app, it had no effect.
I have ordered the replacement usb port, middle cover(the usb socket seems worn out). I will post an update

I think I have the same problem. I tried bending the pin, removing LED apps, various combinations of unplugging, turning off etc., and I tried changing the USB PCB in the phone to no avail. I even tried different batteries. I have absolutely no clue what the issue is. This is doing my nut in.

If you have rooted your phone.. wiping battery stats in recovery mode did the trick for me.. It happened to me atleast 2-3 times.. It's not a permanent solution but just a temporary measure..Im not sure what goes on. I've only had my Gnexus for 1 month and its happened like 3 times. Really3 sucks. Anyone know if it is software related? perhaps unrooting would do the trick??
It could also be a hardware problem, it's been reported before. Following is a guide to replace the USB and charging logic board on a Galaxy Nexus (the guide is for the CDMA version, but it's very similar to a GSM version): iFixit Guide You can order the parts for the GSM version here: Replacement part.
I just ordered one because my phone keeps doing the same stupid things: sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn't, USB connection is completely erratic and it strangely enough always shows the loading icon when it's off and connected, but doesn't actually charge the battery. Tried wiping, reflashing, restoring, switching on and off, wiggling the cable, taking another cable, readjusting the position of the USB pins - to no avail. Now I'm trying replacing the board. Wish me luck!

My Nexus is also having the same problem. Bending the USB pins does the trick but it keep coming back.
Last night I had the same charging problem, so, I applied the same trick, but this time, it created a different problem. When I plugged the phone into my computer, it can be charged but is not recognized by Windows. Also, the headphone plug is acting funny. When a headphone is plugged, it is not detected and music still coming from the speaker. All these happened after I bent the USB pins, might be I applied too much force or might be the pins give up itself this time.
Anyhow, just order a replacement part and hope it will resolve all these problems.
I have fixed the mystery headphone problem, It was caused by the Wechat app that I have recently installed. Once I have unistalled that app, the headphone works properly.
Just waiting for the new charging port USB flex cable to resovled the "USB Deivce Not Recognized" problem.
I have a small question. Can I turn off the display backlight when the charger is connected ?How? That would be great temporary solution
I have read in other forums from people that have replaced the USB port with no results.
What I read and worked for me was to lift the small "tongue" inside the USB port towards the screen. As soon as I did it the charging animation disappear. This, of course, is most probably just a temporary fix and the problem will come back eventually. But at least it's stopped driving me crazy for a moment.
I tried plugging the charger and it charges normally, but it looks like the charger pushes the tongue back down so the "charging when not charging" problem re appeared. I pushed the tongue back up and "fixed" it again.
With this in mind one would think that changing the port would fix the problems but people have reported the opposite :/
BTW, I am using the original charger, although, I have used many other chargers with this phone
Hi,
I had the same problem of ghost charging, it started with phone not charging when connected to charger and then randomly showing charging...
Now discovered it causes vbus_tuna_otg wake lock in Bette battery stats and high system usage in setting> battery, basically not letting the phone go to deep sleep, causing battery drain.
Any way to fix this. ?

Okay, this is a weird one that I researched and researched on the web. I think the problem is somehow related to the USB port. It would seem that my handset thinks it is always charging. I should qualify that statement by saying that with the handset unplugged from the charger and checking the SETTINGS > BATTERY stats it says "0 seconds on the battery" presumably meaning that the handset thinks it has a freshly charged battery and no time has expired since removal of the charger. However, it knows it isn't charging because it also says "89% Not charging". The other weird thing is the handset doesn't screen timeout when unplugged from the charger. That is, I have to hit the lock button to turn the screen off otherwise the 15 second delay doesn't work. I've also checked the developer settings to verify it isn't set to force the screen to stay on. However, the 15 second screen timeout delay works perfectly when the handset is plugged into the charger. After 15 seconds the screen shuts off and the red LED charging light comes on. Lastly, with the handset sitting idle with the screen black if I receive a phone call or text message but just leave the handset sitting there the screen lights up but it never times out after 15 seconds.
Any ideas if this is a USB port problem. I know it sounds like a firmware problem but I've checked just about everything you can think of. I've gone as far as to root my phone, backup all my stuff, then re-flash JellyBean. Speaking of USB port. Has anyone changed one out on a S2 Epic Touch 4G? I know that other S2's have a USB flex cable assembly but I can't seem to find one for this particular handset.

I had tried the toothpick trick that you and others had recommended. In fact it did make a positive difference but I still noticed there were still some strange things going on. Using the toothpick/needle trick went a long way towards getting it to behave properly. Like you said, it was doing the "do-doop" thing intermittently and sometimes it would go into and out of charging mode so fast that unless you were astute you wouldn't have realized that what it did. To figure it out I went into SETTING > BATTERY and observed that the "discharge time" on the battery would typically stay at 3 seconds which told me the phone thought it had been plug into the charger.
For the last two days it would seem that I have fixed the problem. After you carefully clean out the USB port of lint and junk with a toothpick and a magnifying glass or readers you may also want to consider getting a can of compressed air to blast it clean. I'm talking about the kind of compressed air sold at Walmart or Office Depot that is used to clean electronic equipment to blast the dust away.
Let us know if you get it fixed!
I don't know if cleaning the USB port had an effect on battery time but I'm getting relatively awesome battery performance like I've never seen before. After 12 hours and very light use the cell phone still has 81% battery left on it. It used to be sitting at around 30% by this time in the day.
think im having this problem. thinking its a damaged usb port. old battery everytime you stick the battery in or plug it in it thinks its charging. new battery i just ordered does the same too. its still charging so ill see what happens after but i say charging port probably?

I went through the same exact thing...ordered a new battery thinking the original battery was at the end of its life and causing the phone to behave strangely. With the new battery in place the craziness continued. I was thinking the micro USB was damaged and needed to be replace which BTW isn't an easy thing to change out like some of the other Galaxy phones because the S2 uses surface mount solder connections. You'll need very good eyesight and professional soldier skills to do it right without effing it up. Luckily, doing an extensive cleaning of the USB port fixed the problem. You wouldn't think lint would be conductive enough to cause a problem but alas, it does. Use a toothpick and compressed computer cleaner air with the battery removed when you clean it.
I'll have to try with the toothpick later. It's weird when you go into setting and look at battery it knows when it's on charge and when not on charge. But soon as you put a battery in, it turns on by its self but to the charging screen and can't be turned on unless both charger and battery are in.
Will the battery percentage read accurate still I wonder?

Yup, that is exactly what I saw when I was having the problem. Basically what that screen shot is telling me is 13 seconds ago your cell phone made the "doo-doop" sound as a temporary short within the USB port fooled the cell phone into thinking it had the charger plugged in but just as fast as it thought the charger was plugged in the temporary short went away. In fact the "short" may have come and gone so fast as make it so that "doo-doop" isn't even heard. The key here in recognizing the problem is that while your charge may have been unplugged for hours you'll note the number of seconds that have gone by since the cell phone thought it was charging will be somewhere well under 60 seconds or at least that is what I experienced. I have every confidence that you have the same exact problem and you just need to thoroughly clean that USB port of every speck of lint and dust. Also, make sure your charger USB is clean and lastly make sure none of the pins on the USB connectors is bent and that that middle portion on the cell phone USB is right in the middle and not bent up or down in any fashion.

How did that happen?
BTW, don't forget...if the phone doesn't seem to want to power up hold the VOLUME UP and the POWER buttons at the same time for 15 seconds until you get the reboot option.

I'm in the same boat now [emoji22] Just happened a couple nights ago... Phone is plugged in but not charging. Not that big a deal, as I just got some spare batteries and external chargers. But now I've got to be super-cautious when flashing stuff, as I can't just Odin back without working USB

That's what I'm stuck doing now. I'm not gonna be switching roms anymore lol. Had to buy a universal charger for the battery
I had this issue with mine as well. At first it seemed to be the recovery but I reverted to stock unroot and it still happened sometimes shine blue to make it think it was completely charged I know this phone had a lot of hardware issues. And then I took it apart cleaned it and what not. It still happened. So after some time it just stop happening and functioned normally. I am unsure what the problem was or why it happened. The whole time I really couldn't charge my phone at all unless it was by computer only
So I am also facing this,
I searched the whole internet (including everything on xda obv) for a solution and nothing worked.
I had this problem that come and go from time to time, but I thought it is because I live in a humide city. I just wait for like 30 minutes and it is gone.
But this time it is different, It occurred after I put the original headset in my phone two days ago. Waited around 2 hours for the error to go. Yesterday, I noticed that I no longer have the fast charging capabilities, only charging (double of the required time to fully charge).
Today the error does not disappear, I cannot plug the headset or connect my phone to my computer, nor charging it via usb cable. This error is annoying and I cannot contact the samsung store due to lockdown. Is there someone who managed to solve the issue without losing the warranty ?
I have other original usb type-c cables at home, none of them is working and all of them are working in my wife's s8+, so definitely it is not a cable problem (and there is no moisture also, my phone had never been in water).
Thanks in advance.

You can try a can of compressed air and blow it into the port to see if that helps. Other things you can try is a factory data reset, put the phone into a zip lock bag with some white rice (leave it in there for a few hours cuz the rice will help pull moisture from the phone) or just waiting to see if it clears up on it's own.
You might also have a USB port on the phone that has failed, which means you will need to have the port replaced.

Thanks for your answer. I am really clueless about what to do to my phone :/
The message can arbitrary disappear after several but once I plug my headset that is working normally in my laptop or in the s8+, I get the message back and it won't disappear. It has been 2 days in a row now while it is on my phone and can't plug anything in the usb-c.

I did everything except the factory data reset, because I find it is meaningless to remove all my data because some port is not going well.
The problem is that the issue may go arbitrary but two things to note:
1. If I plug my headset I get it again (the headset is working normally in all other devices).
2. It won't super fast charge (only fast charge, which get 2 hours to fully charge rather than the usual one hour).

A software setting (database, config file, etc) that goes bad or gets corrupted can effect the charging functionality. In one case before when I ran into similar issues the solution was a factory data reset.
Also you might have a failing USB port on the phone, since you mentioned the issue happens when you plug your headset in and your charging speed has been impacted. You could try different charging cable and/or headphone to see if the issue(s) persist.
I was ready to cremate the thing to get rid of the water issue.
I have remedied it ( I think )
This is the Logical remedy.
Since it has nothing to do with usb cables.
Look at the phone ports..all along the bottom and a couple on top.
TAPE THEM OVER...!!!
So NO moisture can get thru.
So when the moisture warning has gone away..Plug in your charging cable...And tape all along the bottom cut the tape nice so it allows room for the cable .
I have not had an issue..Since
And why should I, ?
Logic says ...there is nowhere for moisture to be detected if all ports are Covered
LOGIC WINS
And Samsung should dial down the sensitivity!!
People will die or have died / Because they could NOT charge their phone to call emergency Services
