VoLTE not funcional with S9 Exynos - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi there, greetings from Brazil. I just purchased a Samsung S9 SM-960F (XEF) from France, running Exynos. I am being able to use it here (Brazil) with 4G, both sim cards, however VoLTE calls are not active. I have it selected on networks settings and my sim card activates it on my wife's S10e. It seems that the issue is somehow related to the device. Is there any setting or procedure that needs to be done in order to activate it? I have already hard reseted the device and it is still not working.

voLTE is something that is carrier dependent and can sometimes need provisioning in the telephony switch. Could be as simple as that particular line not having it enabled on an account level. It could very easily be a firmware thing too. My carrier offers voLTE but i lost that option in my settings menu when i flashed the U1 firmware. I bet it would come back if i flashed an at&t firmware set tho even tho im using an at&t mvno

It is carrier dependent. I have a dual SIM Exynos S9 here in the US. I have a Mint SIM (T-Mobile MVNO) in one slot and VoLTE & Wi-Fi calling work just fine. The other SIM is a Cricket SIM (AT&T MVNO) and, of course, there is no VoLTE or Wi-Fi calling on that line. Cricket only supports those features in phones they sell and, of course, iPhones.

Yeap, I got the point that VoLTE is carrier dependent. The issue is that my Brazilian Carrier (VIVO) does support VoLTE in my region and I was able to confirm it by inserting my simcard in my wife´s smartphone (Samsung S10e). I have been reading some articles and threads about CSC and other stuff, like firmware flashing. As I told, my device is a S9 SM-G960, with XEF (France) firmware version installed on it.

if the S10e is allowing voLTE, then it has the firmware built in for voLTE which might be particular to the the S10's, but thats something for the S10 forums. Regarding the S9, it needs the carriers firmware in order to utilize the voLTE feature

AT&T Branded Galaxy S9 SM-G960U - Can not enable WiFi Calling using T-Mobile Sim

Hello everyone,
Yes, I'm a noob here but online research, etc. tells me that XDA is the place for me. I am a IT tech, just not a programmer nor have I done a lot with flashing phones, etc.
based on some basic searching my issues seems to be common.
I am a T-Mobile user and I now have a new AT&T Branded Galaxy S9 SM-G960U. I paid a third party to provide me with a Samsung unlock code. I unlocked the phone last night, had T-Mobile update my account with my new Nano Sim, etc.
All is working except I can not enable WiFi Calling and of course there are some advanced text messaging features that I can not enable, i.e. sent receipts, etc. I tested the phone with a active AT&T sim and the features work fine.
Does anyone have a work around for getting WiFi calling and text features to work using the T-Mobile Sim?
Do I need to some how flash a T-Mobile ROM to the phone?
Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated
it will never work because is att brand. you needed to get international model.
I'm not so sure.......... I have the SM-960u1 and have flashed various AT&T FW to it at least 50 times and cannot get any IMS features to work. I get get the ATT bloatware, software, splash screen. But no VoLTE, WiFi Calling etc. I am tired of flashing. Back to Stock U1 for me.
AT&T is the same. They keep promising wifi calling for unlocked phones but I can't get it and neither can 2 others I know with unlocked phones.
This sounds normal. I have an AT&T branded Galaxy S6, which has wifi calling, but I'm using a MintMobile (T-Mobile) SIM. Wifi Calling is grayed out. There's probably some sort of check in the software that only enables the wifi calling if you are using an AT&T sim.
Yes, you have to flash the T-Mobile firmware with the latest modded Odin, or the unlocked U1 variant firmware (for which TMO's RCS messaging and video calling won't work-with U1 firmware, I mean). If you flash the TMO firmware, it's for all intents and purposes turning the phone into aTMO phone, with bootscreen, bloat and all.

You will need to flash to the U1 Firmware then Flash the T-Mobile firmware. AT&T's Wifi Calling is proprietary and thus their phones software won't work with other Carrier's Wifi Calling.

LG G710ULM UNSUPPORTED VoLTE ?!? (Straight-Talk US - T-Mobile network)

*********UPDATE********** I bought a new sim from straight talk and VOLTE works now! (GSM compatible Straight Talk Sim card) My old sim was from 2014, so it wasn't VOLTE compatible.
I have an ebay zombie LG G710ULM flashed to latest Google Fi Android 9 software, I received an email from Straight Talk (Wal-Mart US cell phone service reseller) telling me that my LG G7 does not support VoLTE and my phone will be unable to receive calls in January 2021.
-Using a network info app, the app is telling me it is connected to T-Mobile towers (so I have a Straight Talk T-Mobile compatible SIM)
-I can't find any options to enable VoLTE in settings, and wifi calling is erroring out
I was wondering if there are ways to get VoLTE and Wifi Calling working (Straight Talk supports it, but not my current ROM/SIM).
I can switch to the following sims supported by Straight Talk.
-AT&T Compatible Sim
-Verizon Compatible Sim? If my phone supports CDMA bands
OTHERWISE MOST OF US WILL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT IN 2021!!!!!!!!!
Same problem
I'm having the same problem. Any progress on this?
I'd like to know this too. Surprised there is no traffic here with all the knowledgeable people on this forum.
G710EAW here. BTW There was an Android 10 update just two hours ago from Android 9. Someone with an 'EM' phone in another thread said VOWifi is "working now" but how do others know if it's working when January 1st comes around?

If you guys have cross flashed roms, then volte will not work. It doesnt work for any of us who have crossflashed. Whichever model.
You need to be on original software. Looks like some licensing thing that volte requires. They need to provision volte for all the phones. Sounds like they are not interested to provision it for g7. Odd that even EAW model which has original firmware, they sent that mail too....
Sad/Odd to see your carriers are suddenly changing to only Volte.
Is there a way to put it back to original software? I actually don't need it crossflashed to anything because it's a Verizon originally and I would like to use it on that network. Or does it not work that way?

Main issue is that your carriers dont want to provision volte for your G7s. So no guarantee if cross flashing back to original will work.
There is crossflashing guide in guides section with which you can go back to stock firmware. Do this at your own risk.
In our country we have a volte carrier called Jio. They provide an app called jiocall. Using that app you could use their service even if your phone is not volte capable. You will have to see if there are such apps for your carrier. Thats the only non technical, simpler solution.
I have some information that might make all of you guys happy.
I was told by Safelink Wireless that VOTLE is a function of BOTH the phone *AND* the sim card.
Basically, if the phone itself is VOLTE compatible but the sim card is not, then the phone will be reported on their system as not compatible, and will ask you to upgrade your phone.
However if a VOLTE compatible SIM is inserted, if the phone does in fact support VOLTE, it will then work. That's because it's provisioned on the carrier via the sim card itself.
If you purchased a sim via the "Buy your own sim" package, e.g. online or from Best Buy, etc, awhile ago, then that sim is not compatible. You simply need to call Tracphone/Safelink and ask to buy a VOLTE compatible SIM (which costs 99 cents). Then when you get it, call their tech department to have them transfer the phone service and phone number to the new SIM.
You can dial the phone's service menu and go to the VOLTE/GPRI menu and if the options are there, then the phone supports it.
What's the correct service menu number for our phones?

Issue with 5G connectivity on S20 Ultra (Canada)

I have s20 ultra purchased originally from Telus. Its unlocked.
Now I'm with Rogers but phone do not connect on 5G. It stays on LTE even though I have 5g coverage. If I insert my same sim in oneplus 8 pro I get 5g on that.
Talked to samsung and rogers and they have no idea. Both says everything good from their side.
Any suggestions?
Settings/mobile networks/Network mode.
Is that set to 5G/LTE/HSPA/GSM (Autoconnect)?
Also, try resetting network settings, as well as going into the APN settings and resetting to default.
I don't think you have to change your CSC to Rogers, but you may have to.
Already tried these steps with Samsung support but no result
Can you guide me how to change CSC to Roger's? Will it void warranty if I flash it ?
Finally the issue is fixed. Neither samsung nor rogers provided the solution but Google did.
Solution is to change CSC and immediately 5g and other features like volte and rcs chat started working.

Fake phone device model to network carrier

Hi,
I own an Oneplus 7T, which is VoLTE and VoWiFi enabled. Is it possible to make my network carrier believe I'm connecting with another phone model? Like a Xiaomi Redmi 10 for instance. I need my network carrier to stop disabling VoLTE and VoWifi from my subscription. It does so because I own a OP7T.
Here's the whole story...
The OP7T has two SIM slots and they are populated as so:
SIM 1: Orange Telecom (french)
SIM 2: Bouygues Telecom (french)
Orange won't recognize my phone as VoLTE or VoWifi compatible, whereas Bouygues does. I finally got in touch with a skilled employee there who told me that this is Orange's stupid politic to enable VoLTE only on phones they sell at their store! Gosh... There are some Xiaomi, Huawei, and fo course Samsung, Sony... but no Oneplus.
When I put my Orange SIM in a Samsung compatible phone, VoLTE and VoWifi work and remain ON, forever (I tried 3 weeks). If I switch to my OP7T, the VoLTE will work for 2 to 24 hours (very random) and then it turns OFF (only for the Orange SIM).
Ok, but why do I need this VoLTE and VoWifi so bad? Because I bought a Samsung Watch LTE, whose LTE option won't work if my carrier disables the VoLTE option!
=> I configure the Watch on my crappy Samsung phone, in which I've inserted the Orange SIM, and everythings works fine.
=> I put the Orange SIM in my OP7T and the Watch's LTE keeps working some hours (also the VoLTE sign is ON for SIM 1 & 2)
=> When the VoLTE sign disappears on my OP7T, for SIM 1, the Watch's LTE stops working too.
That turns me crazy... and Orange is the only carrier to provide a LTE option for my Watch so... I'm stuck. Of course, I don't want to buy another phone, this one is new
So, any way to fake my device for my carrier? Please...
Thank you!
Edit: my thread has been moved to the OP7T forum, but it does not belong here at all. That's a general Android phone question about chaing the model presented to the carrier. So I guess I'm not going to get any answer here...

volte and wifi calling only work for the sim you have as primary data. just making sure that's not your issue

Hi, thank you for the answer, however both work for both SIMs on my mobile. Also I can have LTE activated on obth SIMs at the same time, and for example keep the LTE data on on SIM2 while having a phone call on SIM1.
My issue is absolutely the one I described, which is that my carrier disable VOLTE when it recognize my mobile as being "incompatible" (so they say)
Something like this?

There's an xposed module which looks like it does what you want

it depend on your sim card carrier
I have been looking for that information, thinking about getting this phone to use T-Mobile USA GSM voLTE? is this phone compatible?
@ryantek No, it's not. I have been using Gt Master in Mint Mobile (which is T-Mobile MVNO) for 6 month and no VoLTE, no VoWifi. I could use mobile data, but even this was not very good, often gets stuck to 3g network, though GT Master supports most of the LTE bands used by T-Mobile (except for B71 600Mhz).
I had two long chats with Mint Mobile customer service, no resolution.
I believe it's gonna be even harder to activate it after July 1st, when T-Mobile will shutdown it's 3G network. Mint Mobile didn't make me any problems to buy and activate service, but now constantly bugs me to replace phone for compatible with their network.
I've also tried it with US Mobile (T-Mobile network), Boost Mobile (ATT) and couple others. The same effect.
Save yourself some trouble and buy phone that's on compatibility list: Oneplus, iPhone, Samsung or Motorola.
I bought Galaxy S22 and now use it as my main device in Google FI. GT Master still have active Mint Mobile simcard until 3rd of June, but after that it will be over.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing all of this information. It is sad to see the carriers in the USA do not support this phone. Sadly I will stay away until anyone can confirm a phone of this brand that works with VoLTE (Tmobile).
Once again Thank you.

Set up VoLTE and VoWiFi via QPST and the ( advaced pdc tool PDC ) Root is required. This option works in stock. You need to try several "choose" profiles, one will definitely go
In custom rom, if it doesn't work, just back up the EFS partition (after editing in stock rom) and restore it later in custom rom
I see. Wondering is there is a signed ROM with VolLTE enable out of the box.
Today I tried Google Fi simcard with my Realme GT Master (normal not modified ROM) and it worked!! VoLTE is working and so is VoWiFI (I think). I'm not 100% sure about VoWifi. I have icon of VoWifi during call but I can't make call just on WiFi while on Airplane Mode, I have to turn off Airplane Mode or it doesn't allow me to make a call.
Google Fi was activated with Galaxy S22 few months ago.
I'm not gonna test it for long, because I use Galaxy S22 as my main device now and in few days I'll move to US Mobile/Verizon, but Google Fi is usable. I still can't recommend buying GT Master for US: too much hassle, too many unknowns.

so basically you don't know which network you were on while VoLTE started to work? Google FI uses all three networks and switches them dynamically
As far as I know Google Fi uses two networks: Tmobile and Us Cellular. As I'm in western Massachusetts and US Cellular doesn't have coverage here, I'm pretty sure I got connected to T-Mobile. But I can't confirm it with 100% certainty.
