Help: steps to Move from DU13 to Lineage16 on Z2 XT1789-02 ? - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

I have Twrp 3.3.1-0-nash + DU13.4 + magisk working on my XT1789-02 Z2 Variant with verizon Sim.
I was wondering what the proper way to switch to lineage 16 OS is.
Should i revert to latest stock b4 installing? revert to old stock then update to newest stock Then flash? dirty Flash? wipe System then install?
i know its kinda tricky because of the A/B partition scheme....
if anybody can help point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it.
i followed this guide to get my phone to the point its at now.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/guides-bootloader-twrp-custom-roms-root-t3805737.
should i duplicate these steps but flash lineage instead DU13?
TIA

Pretty much simple if you already have TWRP. Just follow the instructions in thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-cloudyg3-1-0-t2917467
That is: download ROM, go to TWRP, make backups, full wipe, flash ROM.
If you want you can flash latest TWRP. Idk which version do you have? Does the one you have offer to back up modem? If not get the latest one for just in case.

Accept OTA or Flash entire ROM?

Hello all-
I have looked everywhere for clarification on this to no avail. I am currently UN-rooted, Unlocked Bootloader & TWRP (OOS 4.0.3, 12/1/16 Android Security patch). Can I take the OTA for OOS 4.1.3 or will that make me lose TWRP? I know there are instances when you can take the OTA and where you have to flash the entire ROM but I can't locate the differences and which route I need to take? Please advise if you know this answer.
Thank you!
I'm not sure, but, you can just flash the ota in twrp and make sure to flash the twrp img after flashing the ota. And, always make a twrp backup
AFAIK you need stock recovery for OTA to work (not 100% sure).
If downloading whole 1.4GB ROM is not a big issue, it's safer to dirty flash the whole ROM. Otherwise you could flash back stock recovery, install small OTA, then flash TWRP again. A bit more work, but less downloading.

Let me make it clear, the full rom flash is a better option and you can do so from twrp. You would not loose twrp after the flash and need not flash the recovery again. SuperSU/Magisk flash is optional after the ROM flash. I see that you are running 3.0.4-1 which is a 7.1.1 compatible TWRP so there is no need to worry of any data loss. TWRP is also able to flash the OTA's provided you have not made any changes to your system partition and have remained unrooted.
You can come to General / OOS thread and ask there for further understanding :fingers-crossed:
You can flash OTA as long as your kernel is on default, what I mean is stock/untouched which is basically same situation as yours since youre unrooted. ? So yes you can flash OTA no need for full flash
If me, i like waiting full ROM zip release and do clean install.
Sometimes, flash OTA getting error (cause root, bla bla bla hahaha )
Yeah, it could be lazy gonna install back all apps at least you backup it
My advice, if you update same Android version, no problem to do a dirty flash (same ROM like LOS 14 to LOS 14, but if different ROM, i suggest better do clean install)
But if different version, mean 7.0 to 7.1.1, better clean install (dirty also no problem, but wonder in future got problem)
But hey, different people, different way right? This just my 2cent
It is my understanding that when moving from whole version number changes (6 to 7, 7 to 8) etc that a clean install is definitely way to go but even from 7.0 to 7.1? Also when you download the OTA, is the file saved somewhere so you can then locate it in TWRP for flashing? I don't want to allow the system to install the ota automatically correct?

It is best to clean flash if you've major upgrade like 6->7 or 7>8 something like that but if as your question you're still on marshmallow so you can flash OTA zip through twrp and make sure after OTA you've to flash twrp again to maintain it. If the system shows OTA it can't flash it via open recovery on twrp, you must have stock recovery to do it.

[Q] Installing twrp

Hi all,
I just recently purchased a G5, with the 2gb ram. I assume this is Cedric?
Do I need to download the 64 bit Cedric release of twrp?
I have unlocked the bootloader, but a bit confused about twrp.
I have twrp image, and I know how to use fastboot commands. My query is during the install of twrp and some guides warn about "swipe to modify". I am worried I will flash trwp and then end up with the stock rom wiped too and obviously no operating system.
I have experience of flashing twrp on a nexus device also my htc m8. This appears to be a little bit different.
Thanks,.

firstly, i need to tell you that i am a dummy so dont trust me i guess
but while i am these days reading into my moto g5 i can tell that
if you need the 64bit cedric it depends on which ROM you want to install.
in this context once you found your ROM there might be hopefully a guide to it:fingers-crossed:
tho i wondered if my moto g5 is compatible with x64 at all but yea i installed twrp cedric-3.2.1-0 x64 and it works
(i have the XT1676 Moto G5 , 3GB RAM, Fine Gold 16GB)
Actually, I am happy to keep the stock Moto rom. I wanted to install a custom recovery so I can flash xposed and use Gravitybox.

If you are sticking with stock rom flash my 32 bit twrp as it supports encryption (official twrp)
If you are flashing a custom nougat rom use the 32 bit twrp (official twrp)
If you are flashing a 64bit Oreo rom use the 64 bit twrp (you will need to format data to remove encryption)
If you are using twrp on stock rom and you swipe to modify then the rom will no longer boot - To get around around this you can either root the rom or flash the disable dm-verity zip
All instructions are on my official twrp thread - however the 64bit twrp will be on the 64bit custom rom threads as I do not support this
Read the FAQ section on the twrp thread as all the most common questions have answers there
So to flash an Oreo rom, I need to flash the 64bit version of twrp? As I am currently using the offical version which is 32bit, do I simply go in fastboot mode and flash the 64bit twrp and it will replace the other version of twrp I have installed?
dummy alert,
but yes, thats what worked for me
for example here, since its going abour Orea, you get the link for the x64
it is same named like the x86 version whats a bit weird
and another thing is that you can choose the "twrp-3.2.1-0-cedric.img" unlike its said on the linked poste. its obviously the newer version which i used successfuly flashing Oreo Android 8.1.0

Yes. It's complex because of TWRP.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/10-0-4-0-to-10-0-7-0-ota-keeping-magisk-t3916863
Thanks for the answer, i already saw this thread but as I already said I'm not a big Expert in this topic, so that guide in the thread is too complex and short for me (and for other most likely too...)
Maybe you can explain it more precisly to us?
I would be very greatful for this!
Or if you know a way too archieve what i want but loose twrp and data... I wouldn't mind. I dont Need twrp and my Phone is New... So
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards
Alex

You can't do it simpler. Mostly because you've got to get back to stock for the OTA.
You can do it different. Get the fastboot. Flash that (don't erase userdata). Then install Magisk and TWRP again.
Not every release gets a fastboot but 11.0.4.0 did so you have this option.
Can you explain this more for me pls?
- What exact files do I need?
- what exactly should i do with these files? (flash with terminal, TWRP, Slot A, Slot B, etc.....)
- is it relevant which version of Android 9 i have?
you would help me alot, if you explain it in detail so that i can do it.
I already tried in android 10 unlocking bootloader and flashed the "disable force encryption" but got stuck on booting screen.
Pls tell me how exactly i should do what, and i will post my results
Thanks !

Alex
Recomendations
Hello,
I just updated from Android 9 stock ROM, to Android 10 with a custom ROM.
I followed this two YouTube guides from the same user:
How to root and install TWRP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy9Z_NN_7Tg&list=LLm7cWm_1QXORlLa5XeTETUw&index=12&t=365s
How to install custom ROM(In my case I installed Evolution X with Android 10 following these steps):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0pcmA_ew-Y&list=LLm7cWm_1QXORlLa5XeTETUw&index=13&t=173s
**Advise**
- Use the same files and versions that he uses, If you use/do something different, you are going to have some problems.
What I'm currently running on my Mi A2 Lite:
- Evolution X ROM(Android 10) -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/rom-evolution-x-3-3-t4014685
- Nitrogen Kernel r3 -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/r1-nitrogen-kernel-mi-a2-lite-t4011019
Everything has been very stable at the moment(1 week and lots of gaming and restarts and tests), so I feel fine sharing this.
Best,
delokt

Fastboot image from here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/fastboot-xiaomi-mi-a2-fastboot-images-t3824871
Install instructions in that thread. TL;DR Run the flash_all_keeping_userdata script to upgrade to the version you downloaded. 11.0.4.0 is what you want.
You have Magisk and TWRP. Install them the same way you did before. Go read their threads if you forgot or use the last part of my guide.
Hello Friends, i have good news, i successfully updated my Phone to android 10 and keep TWRP and magisk!
I did the following steps:
- clean install of fastbood v.11.0.4. Android 10 via Mi-Flashtool
- powershell adb: fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-dees_troy-daisy.img
- TWRP should open on Mi a2 lite. go to advanced and activate adb sideload
- powershell: adb sideload twrp-installer-3.3.1-dees_troy-daisy.zip
TWRP should now be installed.
Then i tried a reboot system and got into the welcome screen, so it booted.
What i did next is, the magisk v20.4 zip file move to sd card or internal storage of the device and flash it trough TWRP.
DONE!
now your phone should reboot to system. It now has Android 10 and magisk installed and working!
Hope i can help someone else with this.

XT1922-7 bricked? Will only load bootloader and recovery

As the title suggests my xt1922-7 is possibly bricked. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone with Magisk using the wonderful guides found here on this site. I installed the Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt ZIP file and then I started to flash a custom GSI ROM. I think this is where I messed things up.
I thought to look for a ROM from this post (ROMs that run on the G6 Play [GSI]) but none of them have successfully booted. I just want to install to the stock rom so I can try again, but fastboot won't let me because the only latest image from lolinet I can find is before the April 2020 update.
Thoughts and suggestions? I'd really just like to be able to use the device without all the bloatware that Sprint installs.
EDIT: updating OP to link where I got the stock ROM
Additional Information
I have been trying to load A/B roms, so if that's an issue someone tell me I'm stupid so I can try only the ARM64 A-only or even the ARM A roms.
maybe it's fixed? Leaving here for posterity

I followed a guide I found HERE: [guide] [root] [oreo&pie] [jeter/aljeter] [twrp, decrypt, magisk] [stock firmware]
I just flashed everything but the bootloader and partition images and it seems to work okay. I got the boot logo and the "Hello Moto" sound so that's progress.
But why can I not flash other ROMS even with TWRP, etc? I can flash, but it just reboots to the bootloader! It's driving me crazy.
