How do I disable the home button? I'm running games and with the screen horizontal in many games there is a software fire or accelerator button in the right bottom corner near the home button. I often press the home button which then throws me out of the game and I loose my progress. How would I completely disable the home button so I can play games safely?
I do not care if the home button returning to home screen is disabled permanently. So far I've come up will no apps that do this directly. I've only come up with a guide on the Android Developer website saying that KeyguardManager does have this privileged of disabling the home button. Unfortunately I have no experience in code. Maybe some of the Devs out there could help?
Here's the Android KeyguardManager script page:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/KeyguardManager.KeyguardLock.html
ButtonRemapper does this I believe.

^^Thank You!! Thank You!!
I've just tried this out for a moment tonight and I can confirm that it works!! I'm no longer thrown out of a game by touching the home button!!!
I used ButtonMapper 0.2.4.1 posted on the forums here. I couldn't select nothing for the home key so instead I selected "focus" and this seemed to do the job. Great work!!
Here's the link to the app:

Hey, the title say it all. When gaming in galaxy nexus, does the soft button will disappear? Anyone of Galaxy nexus owner can answer me? It is kind of fun if disappear so that it can play with 1280x720 HD resolution and HDMI to TV with no letterbox.
As far as i know right now, no. But im thinking that can possibly be managed in the future.
I invented cyberspace. You're trespassing.
Unless some app developer figures out a way around it, no. The three possible states for the on-screen buttons are visible (which is typical), low-profile mode (reduced to three dots), and hidden (i.e. fullscreen). When the buttons are hidden, any user input (touching the screen, pushing the volume or power buttons, etc.) will make the buttons visible again. So at best, games on the GN will have the buttons be in low-profile mode, at least until there comes to be another solution to that
It isn't a built in feature in HC but there are apps in the market to hide them... I wonder if they work in ICS? If not, its only a matter of time.

I'm sure you'll be able to hide the bar completely. With root access of course
Doesn't the Videoplayer and the Easteregg of ICS did it? For me it looked like that in some Videos so I think there should be a way to use the full screen without the buttons in ICS.
edit: There at second 15 you can ses what I mean. It goes to fullscreen and uses the area where the buttons where before for fullscreen too.

Like hyperdude already said, the buttons will come back as soon as you touch the screen, so you can't hide it completely while playing games.

I know that when you watch videos fullscreen (including Youtube) the soft buttons disappear. That's all I know at this point, considering I don't have a GN.

YouTube full screen: hidden
Photo gallery and in-call: discrete mode
Browser: stays on
Edit: It goes into discrete mode in call.

Well, I figured a idea which make possible useful for 720p display for gaming especially HDMI to TV. That is when playing games the soft button will completely disappear but when you pause the game, the soft button will immediately pop out. This make useful when multitasking/home screen or others.
Does anyone agree with me ?

Android will never let an app decide when to show the navigation bar after it's been hidden - that's not good security. There's a reason why it's designed so that an app can only hide the navigation bar until the user interacts with the device.
A good solution to this problem has been proposed by some others: have the power button double as a navigation bar activator. Double tap the power button to hide the bar, double tap it again to bring it back up. This lets you hide the bar without relying on apps to determine when to show and hide it. It would be better if there were a dedicated button on the Galaxy Nexus for this, but alas there isn't.
The buttons do not hide when playing Shadow Gun and I find I exit to home screen during the middle of some frantic shooting. Tres Frustrating!

Argh, I was really hopeful that ICS would address this when I saw the virtual keys. This is one of the things that pissed me off the most about soft keys - they don't go well with games. Plus the extra screen space is awesome.
I hope cm9 will be able to address this.

I don't think spamming the power button is a good solution - it's a physical button so it'll wear out if it's pressed so many times. I'd prefer to see a simple gesture, perhaps two fingers from bottom to top.
Wait, won't this screw up the dimensions/ratio/whatever you call it?
With the buttons present, wouldn't this make the games/content scrunched up (vertically)? That SUCKS
I do not own a Nexus but it's one of the phones im thinking about buying. So most of the time (except in youtube and video player) you actually don't have all of the 4.65 inch screen available to you for viewing your content? In your opinion how big is the screen when navigation buttons are available? 4.3, 4.4 inch?

About 4.3.

Hi,
I would like to ask you guys if there's a way you can access the app drawer / app list, without being forced to press the annoying side button
Before writing this, I've searched the internet, without any luck.
Thank you!
I don't know if it's possible to reassign the app drawer from the button to a gesture. At the moment I use Wear Mini Launcher. It has more options but it's a bit slower.
Yup, just twist your wrist about three times, it'll pop up!
Hi,
I just installed a Dasaita PX6 Max 10 in my nissan. It has touch buttons down the left hand side of the unit to select the menu, navigation, music, volume down and volume up.
I can go into the touch key study and remap the buttons without issue, choose a different program for the navigation button to load etc but I can't choose the buttons to load custom applications. There is no option to change the default music player so I am hoping there is a work around. I have tried a couple of button mappers from the play store with no success.
Does anyone know how to change the buttons?
Thanks.

Nothing. I have looked and followed posts to bind the buttons, albeit this only allows me to choose from a predefined list. It doesn't allow me to choose a specific application as far as I can see.
I haven't read posts where someone says this can't be done, nor have I read a post with instructions. Therefore I am wondering if I am missing something obvious and hence why no one else has this issue?
My software appears to be the latest available according to another forum post.

I'm not sure if that's a glitch. There could be a reason they don't want you assigning apps to the touch buttons... I don't know, but you can always customize your launcher or even install your own with customisable app buttons.
Thanks for your reply. For the time being I have downloaded Agama launcher which appears to integrate well, and I have disabled the music button.
From other research it appears that if the device was rooted then I could possibly use mtce tools or services to re assign the buttons so I'm currently looking for instructions for doing that, as the other articles appear to refer to px5 devices.
did you have any further success? I'm very much interested in that, too.

Unfortunately not. I didn't want to try and root it incase I messed up zlink and my vehicle specific parameters.
I just disabled the music button for now and use agama to launch everything.

Hi,
Yes I found that a different version of mcd tools which I downloaded from here:
Post in thread '[Release][PX3|PX5] MtcdTools-Control music players, customize buttons, voice control' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-buttons-voice-control.3436789/post-83416527
Allowed me to custom bind the music buttons to dab+.
I just had to change the factory setting for the music button first. I set it up to launch the radio on long press only. That way when I bound a short press using mcdtools it didn't open the default radio app in the background.
Yeah! Found that too and wanted to post it here, but haven’t had time to further play around with it. Works on my Dasaita Max10. Good tip the factory setting thing!
by the way: rooting worked flawlessly with this instruction (also based on posts in this forum):
It's all working great now. I have set the touch buttons up to open the media player on a single click and disabled that application In settings. This has allowed me to set it to open dab z on short press and Spotify on long without it opening the media player at all.
Previously I used it to open the default radio app and that caused issues with it going back to Spotify or dab z.
would you mind describing a bit more detailed, what exacly you did (which exact settings). Would apreciate that very much!
I'll post proper instructions tomorrow, but I went into factory settings and set the music button to open the media player on a short press. Then in Android applications I disabled the media player applocation so it didn't launch anything when pressed.
I then used mtcdtools to create actions for dab z and Spotify.
Then I bound the action to the key for the music button. Choosing dab z for the short press and Spotify for the long press.
thats proper enough for me, Thanks!
I downloaded poweramp from play store and it integrates with no hacking or rooting. I set it as my touch key default music player. Very much recommend it.

how did you set poweramp as your touch key music player?
Hey guys, today I searched several hours for something to remap prime video/netflix/disney/music and that tv button near volume from my remote (guide?). Button Remapper/tvQuickActions is not seeing those buttons and I only found something without root that is remapping netflix and disney only to another apps. (no shortcuts, intents etc). I`m dissapointed because I have root and 5 buttons with no use... Any help please regarding this ?
Do you think xeed.xposed.cbppmod Physical Button Master Control is working for this remote ?
Ok I came back with some feedback. Until now only with xeed.xposed.cbppmod I could achieve this. Is reading very well the imput from stick remote dedicate buttons. Is a pain in the ass to use it because is a touch screen module and I had to use some wireless mouse app from phone, guge lag etc. nad I had to use an older version of Physical Button Master Control because with the newer one, I could not select any app/intent/shortcut option.
Xposed Edge has been working fine for me for many months. It also has many more features apart from button remap. Highly reccomend
Ok so I will only need xposed framework and edge module right ? How is it with navigation keys? With Physical Button Master Control module is a nightmare on firetv.
I used ‘Riru - LSPosed’ using Magisk instead of Xposed Framework and yes, I set it all up using just the Fire TV remote
Edit: The module is ‘Xposed Edge’, not ‘Edge’. You can just sideload apk
My config:
Home button
Single press: Wolf Launcher (this way you can have custom launcher with working alexa voice commands & firetv recommendations)
Double Press: Running Apps Drawer
Long Press: 3x3 custom panel
Back button
Double press: previous app
Long press: kill foreground app (useful in apps like Netflix)
Menu button:
Double press: Next App
Long Press: kill background apps (to free memory)
Live TV button:
Single press: Open Tivimate app (froze Live TV app using Xposed Edge Freezer for best results)
Double Press: Fire TV shows recommendations (you need to download ‘TV shows’ shortcut from app store’)
Long Press: Fire TV Movies recommendations (you need to download ‘movies’ shortcut from app store’)
Amazon Music button
Single press: Open YouTube (froze Amazon Music for best results)
.
Thank you. Seems that I can't use Riru - LSPosed on fire os 6 for my 4k. Minimum requirement, Android 8-12.

It doesn't matter, you just need xposed installed
Tanks again, edge is superior. Now I must find how can I disable black screen when a movie is paused or when listening music with kodi and tv closed screen. Tried using adb command for standby and screensaver, but I still have a black screen.
Black screen? I'm not experiencing the same problem, I dont think it has to do with Xposed Edge
True, I think is something dodgy with fire os and standby/screensaver.

Why not try Aerial Dream or Aerial Views screensaver? If it still doesn't resolve, I suppose you'll have to wipe data and set up again
Thanks, I will try that.
