Since the ap for the Redmi Note 8 Pro is MediaTek, I wonder if it supports Netflix hd and widevine l1.
Not chinese version...
We have to wait for global version and see...
As Note 7 global has it, Note 8 Pro should....
@Plumplum88
And this is implemented in Hardware or in software?
A Global Rom flashed in to a Chinese RN8pro
would enabled it?

I think software as my older Oppo A3 was released without and get it with update
I can confirm Note 8 Pro sold in France has L1...
I have Netflix on my EU rom, but I don't know if it support HD.
Netflix come with ROM default app..like bloatware
Hi, for the owners of the Xiaomi redmi note 8 pro, French and European version, it would be interesting to know what DRM Info says about Widevine? At least there would be certainty of the L1. Thank you in advance to those who will do the test.
I got global version, bought in Poland, and I am sad to say that it shows widevine L3. It has a limit of 580p video from netflix, doesn't matter if you stream or download. Youtube though works nice with 60fps and HDR.
Hello everyone, I am a user and owner of a redmi note 8 pro 128gb/ 6gb GLOBAL. and I am sorry to say that according to the drm info apk the terminal has L1, however when opening netflix, the maximum resolution supported is 540p, and without having the HD logo enabled when viewing series or movie info, ... on the other hand Youtube Apk works great at 1080p60fps.
Netflix and Amazon prime video won't play HD content on RN8P
I am facing some issues with using Streaming services with RN8P. The DRM Info says the global variant of Redmi note 8 pro has widewine L1 certifications but the Netflix app says the L3 certifications and same case with Prime video,
hi,
i have the global version from the redmi note 8 pro.
DRM Info App Shows Widevine L1 and in Netflix it shows HD content!
UK purchased global version. DRM info app says L1 Netflix says L3

Hey, have you tried this apk of Netflix? It may work on other devices other than POCO phone f1 which is what I have, after installing I did notice it was in HD.

So if you go in your netflix app and click on:
-more
-app settings
scroll down, and tap on:
-playback specification
what do you see in the second line? widewine: L1 or L3?
also, underneath: what does it say for your maximum playback resolution?

I saw L3 there on the latest version of Netflix
Sadly L3 for me. Was hoping latest update would change this, but sadly not. SD is maximum resolution for me.
There's a specific apk of netflix which shows L1 on netflix.

I was considering buying this phone or the mi 8, but I would like to ask users here regarding Xiaomi support about this feature,
Does Mi MIx 2 / 2S with latest firmware update support the wide vine level 1? this is needed in order to stream Netflix in HD,
You can check this using the DRM Info app on the play store,
Thanks in advances

My bootloader is unlocked so not sure if that will affect anything, I know on Sony phones the widevine is affected when its unlocked.

I see, I do plan to unlock the boot loader to root the phone, thanks anyway
Can someone with the device run DRM Info from the play store and report back the level. L1 vs L3. I am curious if this will be capable of 1080p netflix (and amazon video) which requires L1. I appreciate your reply. Thanks

Don't have clue about india, mine is from Philippines and its an L3 also.
Mostly flagships are in L1 and manufacturers need to pay a license for it and since our R5pro is cheap it is safe to say that Realme Co. doesn't get an L1 license, although I think there's some Mid-range devices that is L1 certified but right now its not really my concern because I don't watch movies or stream from DRM portected apps like Netflix.
My bad, silly me, didn't scroll down to see the rest of the page.
As you can see here the playback specification mentions SDR. So if you were wondering whether it supports HDR or not, it clearly doesn't!

Stop spreading false information. Unless they unable Widewine L1 we won't be able to use HD or HDR.
Hardware definitely supports HDR.
This will supposedly be addressed with Android 10.
RN8P global android 10 on netfix no HDR but full hd
Just noticed this in Netflix app. It seems my S20 Ultra isn't capable of playing Netflix in 4k hdr and is capped to SD. Screenshot is from Netflix. Does anyone else have this issue too?
S20 ultra can only output 1440p. It wouldn't stream in 4k. That being said it should be doing 1440p or 1080 at the least.

FHD is 1080P, QHD is 1440, UHD is 4k
Your DRM is L3. Are you rooted ? If so, there is nothing you can do to go back widevine L1 as I know.
It might not be your phone. There were several reports back in March that Netflix (and other streaming services) would be temporarily capping their streaming quality to SD. Whether this is the case now I don't know for sure. I just offer it as a possible explanation.

I was about to say the same thing - it should say "VP9 (Secure)" and "AVC-High (Secure)" - the phone's security is likely flagging as unsecure and copy protection is locking the resolution to SD.
In other words, for some reason Knox is telling Netflix you messed with it.
Mine says Full HD
Whats weird is snowpiercer is available in HDR but Dark is supposed to be UHD but is only available in HD, i would have thought that it would be HDR at least.
I assuming HDR is higher than HD or am i wrong?

HDR = 4K + HDR
UHD = 4k + SDR
On Netflix anyway. Some of the times... They make it confusing. You can get uhd 4k with dolby vision which is also hdr but different to hdr10

My other issue is Did netflix reduce data/quality based on Our Wonderful Government here in Australia requesting restrictions. What may be available in higher resolution might be restricted.
https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2...an-to-reduce-data-to-avoid-broadband-overload
I would check but I'm rooted. My TV plays Netflix in the correct resolution so who knows
Netflix on my S20 Ultra on DBT, 96Hz & Full HD says the following:
Incidentally Stan is the same Breaking Bad is supposed to be 4KUHD however it is only available to me in HD
