Can someone that has a T-Mobile S6 please test this?! If so, then I honestly might not root my S6 -_- unless someone comes up with a way to not trip Knox.

No, but there are enough engineers at service centers, distributors, inside Samsung itself, who already have one, leak the necessary files, and test the roots, for this to be available already.

Not working here either. I just received my T-Mobile GS6 today and I can't get it to apply the root. Odin just keeps failing.
Could it be the out-of-the-box OTA we received? Or was this ever actually working?

It's the ota we received. The build id of the software we have doesn't match what chain fire has posted on his site. Wait for him to update

Ya I tried it before then went ahead and took the update. l remembered much people saying samsung/tmobile usual sends a update at launch that improves things so wanted to get that out the way.
Anyone flash the newest ota? Any differences?
Just updated yesterday. I was hoping it would finally be on 5.1.1 but don't see any difference. Still had the annoying priority notifications and heads up notifications. Glad to see someone else is still squeezing life outta their note 3.
Is there a root out for this firmware yet?

There are a lot of users out there otherwise this update wouldn't have happened. They need to have a certain amount of users to justify updating. I'm glad as this phone is still a beast, and going strong.

Root works like any other recent version. Just look in the threads for the method you want. If it worked at least for four versions ago, it should still work now.

Ok I tried kingroot it said that it wasn't adaptable yet. So does that mean I should wait a while for a new root to come out or just try another way?

I think that's the only one I never used. Follow this thread for rooting. I've used this for all my Note 3 roots. You just need to do the rooting steps.

I'll try it hopefully I don't brick it. I rooted it once before but unrooted it to update it. My Knox is already tripped do I don't care about that. Just don't wanna brick it .

You don't need to use kingroot. Just flash TWRP via download mode and flash SuperSU.
This is really great! What security update does it have? It would be really great to have a deodexed version. I tried on the previous
version, but failed. Does anyone have good pointers on deodexing?

The firmware version is great. Custom roms usually come deoxed. Try magma ux build
Took an OTA and now whenever I turn the device on it says in red letters: "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly". I can still boot into the OS normally. I can still access fastboot. I can still access recovery. I have done many searches and people keep saying to relock the bootloader or unlock the bootloader and flash stock firmware. There's no way to do either because this Verizon variant is locked down like Fort Knox. I don't understand why the bootloader has to be unlocked to flash STOCK firmware straight from Verizon. Smh. Anyways, does anyone have any ideas. about how to get rid of this message?

You could side load the Google OTA image and see if that fixes it. Or just wait until next week and see if the March OTA fixes it. If your device is working properly, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have moved on to the iPhone 8 Plus. I sold the device and had it returned because of that message... and now I want to sell it again. I just need to get rid of it. So you are saying that I can sideload via adb even on a Verizon device with a locked bootloader?

While I haven't done it personally, I've seen several people do just that from stock recovery. At worst, the install will fail and nothing will be changed. Unlocking the bootloader is mainly for flashing factory images and rooting, not OTA's. Just follow the instructions from Google and see what happens. In your current situation, you really have nothing to lose.

Yes, I have a Verizon version of the Pix2-XL, and I have run 4 or 5 times on it.

Use these instructions exactly, and be sure you have the newest Android Tools.
This should take care of your error message.

Hey thanks for that. The latest image I see for the Verizon Pixel XL 2 is for 8.0.0 from Nov 2017. I am on 8.1. So I have to downgrade? Is that even possible?

You do want the February one. It's for all phones including Verizon.

So I can flash that with no radio issues? I thought OPM1 is google, OPM2 is Telus only, and OPD3 is Verizon only? I have a Verizon P2XL
Edit: I think I've found my issue. The person who had the device before me must have sideloaded 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.018, Feb 2018)" to this device and that may be the reason for the error. I am thinking because that's not the Verizon P2XL firmware but the Google P2XL device firmware.

Lol I still have my trusty ol' Nexus 6P as my secondary device.
WoW this download link is really slow. Downloading at 50 KB/s. Says 9 hours left. I have fiber speeds for my internet. Anyone know of any alternative download locations for this OTA?
Edit: Rebooted my router and that fixed it. It downloaded in 2 minutes.

I'm new to Samsung completely, I have experience rooting, as I've had multiple Nexus devices, and other rootable phones. Just never had a Samsung. I recently took the Oreo OTA update, and was wondering about the best rooting method? Ive read that you lose secret folder. Is there a way to keep that?
Basically I just want to debloat more and theme without having to use Andromeda, as that is annoying.

Rooting for Verizon is not happening as of now as they Lock the Boot-Loader and just Phones aren't as easy to Root now
Yes it will work fine on oreo, as long as the 2nd to last number of the version you are on isn't a 3. Example:
Good: G950USQU2CRB7
Not Good: G950USQU3CRC6
^-- That right there is a no no for now
But afaik there is so rom in existence for 950u with a 3 there. Just something to watch for in the future.
You don't need to flash back to nougat stock first either. Your should be able to go straight to pcr. If you have trouble with the first step you can try flashing part 2 first, followed by 1 then 2 again, but i fine expect you will have any issues.

But this will take you back to Nougat QL1. There isn't a root for our phones in Oreo yet. Darn Verizon.

Not exactly, this is a root/rom combo. So it will downgrade you back to Nougat version 2 bootloader firmware, root your device, and flash a ROM all at the same time. So there is no way to flash a different ROM since the rooting process and ROM flashing is built into one step.

Yeah its flashing an engineered firmware, and it trips knox which is needed for secure folder I think. I looked on my S8+ and couldn't find secure folder anywhere, so I'm guessing the ROM removes it.

Man, I miss the days of flashing roms. Back on my note 3, i used to flash a new rom weekly and had a ball customizing things and seeing what new roms were comming out.

Whatever happened to those days. S**t, the last few ROMs I was flashing on the N6 were all pretty much the same. I miss being pissed off that one rom had all the things I wanted but looked hideous. Then everything got CM based and themes were everywhere. Then it all just got the same. Then it all got locked down. Almost like Android and Google were playing the devs getting them to make the mods, then them steal them, and incorporate them, then lock it down.

yeah, by the time the N6 was out things were pretty bad. But back in the N3 days - they were good.

I'm sorry for this basic question, but does the phone being carrier unlocked make any difference? I know that has nothing to do with the bootloader; I'm simply asking if the phone not being Verizon-specific has any effect on rootability ... I was just about to purchase an unlocked S8+ when I saw this thread and almost spewed Mountain Dew all over my monitor. I had no idea Verizon had squelched root, although no surprise there, right?

if its unlocked and international version, and you use it on verizon, you can still root without any problems from verizon. only verizon variant there is that crappy problem

Yeah there is root for all carrieres (verizon, tmobil, sprint, att) but its limited and the bootloader is still locked. I would still get a the international version, better root, more Roms, etc...

When you say international version, is that simply the carrier unlocked version? And do you know if there is a certain model number or letter designation after the model number I should be looking for? I'm shopping on Swappa and eBay and need to be really careful. It's a Verizon phone.
Anyone know if I can go about it and how exactly? Really nervous and don't really like my device without being rooted.

You won't lock the bootloader unless you manually enter the commands in fastboot.
You can update to July by either: fastbooting the factory image with the -w removed to preserve data. Flashing the OTA.zip in twrp. Or side load the OTA :good:

My device is a Verizon phone, I was in luck when getting the phone for it being on an older security update just really worried that I will lock it if I try to update it.
Are you 100% sure this won't do so?

You made no mention that it was a Verizon phone in your post. Therefore, I'm not sure now. Have you run the IMEI checker to see if it's truly a Verizon phone.

I've read that the only way to lock the bootloader once its unlocked is to manually do so via the commands, this should be the same regardless of if being Verizon I would assume but not sure and don't want to go through with updating without knowing.

I checked via verizon's imei checker (https://www.verizonwireless.com/prospect/bring-your-own-device#/checkDevice)
looks like it isn't actually a verizon model, I'm in luck I guess.

or do I need to leave anything out while doing it? I thought I'd need to leave the bootloader-taimen-tmz12g-.img out or something to prevent it.

It will not relock. I am 100 percent sure. There are several reasons it wont. One is that relock will wipe your data, can you imagine the lawsuits if Google and Verizon send an update that they knew would wipe your data.
The second reason is that it is technologically impossible. You are thinking of when a VZ update breaks root o other phones. This phone is way different. It won't happen.
Relax, update.
You will lose root when you update. Easy enough to restore though.

I also have a Verizon phone that randomly let me unlock the bootloader. I was running DU and just flashed the OTA in TWRP. Booted right up. No issues with it relocking the bootloader or any other nonsense.
