Hotspot not working - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I had my mobile hotspot connected to my ps3 yesterday, and it was working just fine. It stopped working while I was watching a movie on Hulu, and I haven't been able to get it connected since then. My ps3 can obtain the IP address, but not connect to the internet. I tried to connect my hotspot to another phone, and it's the same problem. It says connected, but nothing works. Any solutions?

Turn any windows mobile into WIFI router

This application lets you use your phone as WIFI router without setting up anything in device. Let me if you guys like it.
This application has its own thread here on XDA-Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357152. Don't really see the point of you posting the CAB here.. without all the information needed.
Well this message, in the wrong place, introduced me to your excellent application!
thank you
How do you turn off this wifirouter?? i got it working and works fine although i cant get my archos gen 5 to pick it up but i tuned it off but my computer still picks it up although it cnt connect to it
the app is connected but i am not connected to the internet on my laptop...any answers? i tried resetting a bunch of times
is it the trial version or the real thing? is there a free way of doing it.. does it work for windows 5
infrastructure mode?
is there a way to broadcast in infrastructure mode, instead of ad hoc? i would love to use a zune hd with this, but it is not able to see ad hoc networks. thanks.
???
the SSID is not showing up in my computer. All others (mine and my neighbors wireless connections) are showing up.
How to get my playstation 3 2 work with this router
Hi i am so damn frusterated right now with this. How do i get my ps3 to work with this router thing. My computer connects to it and recieves wifi. But when i try to find it with my ps3 it wont detect it. Does any one know how do i get this 2 work.
try this
1. connect ur trinity to ur laptop / pc via USB and run "internet sharing" on your trinity.
2. Set up an Ad-Hoc connection on your PC / Laptop and directly connect ur PS3 to it.
3. In network settings on your PC / Laptop click the ad-hoc connection icon and the windows mobile based device icon (Ctrl-Left click each one) right click one of them when their both selected and click on bridge connection from the drop down menu.
this method's a bit of a potch to set up but once its running it works perfectly and you only have to set it up once. it also lets you use the internet on your pc and ps3 at the same time.
I'm pretty late to this and NEW (newbie), but I wanted to make a quick post about it's use on my Imagio winmo 6.5 OS 5.2.21... no mods, no roms burned and this works perfectly. Now I can surf at work without the assistance of our helpful IT friends LOL.

Your laptop or pc picks up adhoc signals aswell as infrastructure, to be quiet honest, this app is very useless when advertised as a router, doesn't route anything if just limited to adhoc, adhoc = computer to computer connections, not a router to me at all! Its a very nice app for many other things though.. I see someone giving you instructions for 'ICS' doing all that just makes it all pointless and you may aswell just get a home router connected to house line!
This is one of my favourite apps. I've been using it for a long time now and just awesome.

Really love this app. Only problem is that it worked great the first time I launched it. Now it can't connect. It just keeps on cycling trying to connect to att gprs and finally says "the remote party has ended this connection". Any ideas?

It sounds like possibly your connection settings have been erased. Can you get internet in Explorer, etc? If so, please disregard this...
how do i load it in my phone
thanks for the share , can you explain how the procedure works , I want to create applications like these but still don't understand their concept

Internet Passthrough feature

Has anyone tried using this feature? I.E. connecting the phone to a PC and giving that connected computer internet capabilities?
I've just tried this the other day and every time I do it, it drops the wifi and connects it straight through 4g.
Is there anyway to have it connect through wifi instead?

As far as I am aware, the tethering functions that comes with htc and every other android phone are hardware restricted to only pass on 3g/4g networks. So in short, no.

[Q] FireTV XBMC Error 2: Share Not Available (Only when on wireless, not Cat5)

I was wondering if someone out there could possibly help me out. I rooted my FireTV and loaded XBMC on it, has been working flawlessly. It had been connected via ethernet cable to my network, and I have been able to play everything on my server without issues. I decided I wanted to move this FireTV to the bedroom TV, and had to switch to wireless since I don't have an ethernet jack in that room. I connected to Wifi without a problem, and am able to stream off XBMC plugins without any issues.
For some reason, as soon as I switch to using wireless, I am unable to connect to my network share off my PC in the basement. Everytime I try to browse to the SMB share to connect I get an 'Error 2 Share Not Available' and 'Could not connect to Network Share' error. I am able to ping the ATV when on wireless from my laptop without any issues, and as soon as I plug an ethernet cable back in, it works flawlessly.
I apologize if I'm not posting this on the right forum, but does anyone have any thoughts on something else I could try to get it to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
-J

Most likely you are connecting to the guest network on your wireless !!! .
some routers allow you to create 2 wireless sids one to access all resources local and remote and a secondary guest sid that allows access to the internet but not to your local resources.
Regards
Luis
Try using the IP address to the server. Possible the local DNS server isn't catching up with the wifi
Thanks for the help! After it didn't work for multiple days, I happened to try it yesterday, and it just randomly started working. Not sure what happened, even the ip address wasn't working before.
I used to have issues with shares, especially SAMBA. I began adding shares manually like in this video and it fixed my issues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTBspxh7CgI
error 2
if you are receiving this error its because of your router either its bridged enable or you have to routers connected such as a moden with built in wifi from say comcast an your personal router-J[/QUOTE]

Configure Wifi without Remote Control

Ok, I am in a hotel and have tried to plug-in my Fire TV Stick, but it doesn't find my home wifi - no surprise - darn! I've forgot the standard Remote Control!!!! ARGHHH
So I configure my phone as a wifi hot spot and name it as my home wifi (with the same password) - voila! I can connect with the Fire TV app for Android but as soon as I go to reconfigure the wifi to use the hotels wifi it disconnects and I can no longer access it at all from the Android app.
Now, is there a way to reconfigure the wifi-settings manually either by plugging it into a computer via USB or some other app that will emulate the stock remote that comes with the Fire TV?

If you are using a wifi remote control app like Wukong Romote, your phone and the AFS has to be on the same network for your phone to be able to find it.
Sent from my LGL41C using Tapatalk
I find the control can be use in this app called CetusPlay, you can find it on google play store
Use a second smartphone or tablet with firetv to reconfigure the stick to the hotel WiFi
For the "not long enough, want to read" explanation -
As the OP said, configure 1st smartphone as a WiFi hotspot with identical name and password as home WiFi.
Firetv should automatically connect you this when powered up.
Connect 2nd smartphone to this network (probably will automatically connect as it will 'see' it as its home network)
Use the firetv app on 2nd smartphone to navigate to system/settings/network (not exact steps but you should be able you find it) and reconfigure the firetv stick to connect to the guest/hotel WiFi.
Once connected turn off WiFi hotspot on 1st phone and connect it to guest/hotel WiFi.
Start firetv app, search for firetv and connect.
Discover that most content is geographically controlled and cannot be viewed and settle in for a season of Man in the High Castle.
@finkle - this was a good idea, but sadly as soon as the other wifi is selected on the fire stick it changes to the hotel wifi and opens the browser page to enter the credentials, which simultaneously disconnects the remote app! So close ;-(
That's what you want to happen.
Once the firestick is connected to the hotel Wi-Fi you connect either of the remote devices to the hotel Wi-Fi and you're good to go - the firestick and device will both be on the same network so they can chat..
The hotel Wi-Fi I used this on only required confirmation that you wanted to connect and accept their usage terms, which the firestick coped with fine.
Honestly, it worked in real life!
Hi,
I tried the above steps, but when I then connect my mobile to the hotel network, it then cannot find the firestick. I have the firestick stuck on the hotel pop up asking for the password, but can not navigate to enter the password in. Help?
Thanks

ok i have done everything exactly as you have said, but unfortunately my fire tv is not automatically connecting....Any thoughts on why? I know i reconfigured the hot spot correctly because i disconnected a 2nd smart phone from the current wifi and it automatically found our home network and connected...
What i typically do is connect my FireTV stick to the USB port on my computer, i can then manually send keyevents via ADB to connect the device through the hotel portals, yes it is tedious but once you get it connected you should be able to connect to it via Fire TV remote App on your phone. you can then plug it back into the wall and when it reboots it should auto connect to wifi this time.
P.S. this will only work if you have already previously enabled developer mode and allow adb connection on your fireTV stick.
Oh clever people, I hope you can help? I am absolutely not techy-minded, I wish I was..
I've read through this thread, and I fear there is no help for me..
I was bought a firestick by a well-meaning friend, who set it up for me... About 18 months ago. I have since moved house, and the move has meant the remote is misplaced.. So I downloaded an app that I can use as a remote. However the firestick is still linked to the old wifi, of which I have no idea what the username or password was....
So am I buggered? A useless firestick?
Please advise!

I found this answer on the Amazon help page ( https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx3ERA8C5GDSLWS?_encoding=UTF8&sort=helpful ) :
All tvs have a cec option under settings. Google search cec settings and it'll help ya. It lets you control hdmi plug ins with the regular tv remote. Tried it on one of my tvs and wouldn't work. Tried it on another tv in the house witch is different brand and it worked. I was able to set the wifi back up and then was able to use the fire stick remote app on my phone. Good luck
Someone confirmed that it worked for them. if not then you can order a new remote fairly cheaply: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LORGAG6/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
Problem Solved
Hold down the home button on your Amazon firestick remote until you get a popup on your tv screen that the remote is connected. This will take 5-10 seconds. No internet necessary. Cheers!!
Thank You!
This CEC on my visio worked perfectly. we haven't been able to use one of our firesticks for quite a while now. thank you!! and no... holding down the select button on a diff remote does not work..

Go into the settings on your tv and enable CEC. I have a Vizio and it worked for me.
In your search engine type: How to Enable HDMI-CEC on Your TV, and Why You Should then click on the HowtoGeek link
In case anyone runs in to this in the future (including myself).
If your stick is rooted then you can manually configure the WiFi over ADB/USB in the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
My situation is that one day i switched my tv input from blue ray player to fire tv stick as ive done for a long time, but this time when itd boot up it would hold on the home screen and the 3 dots, and then network connection lost. But nothing has changed with my wifi, all my other devices still connect to wifi just fine. And i dont have the remote and have been using my phone to navigate my fire tv stick. Any advice?
Now its bootlooping after it shows network connection lost for about 1min then reboots.
Could provide steps as to how to reconfigure Wi-Fi setting in the Fire Stick via ADB?

wifi

Hi
If I understand correctly the wifi will only work if the phone is close by
I read elsewhere that other smart watches will connect directly to wifi
even if the phone is not on
can someone please clarify & will this option come with future updates ?
Thanks
The phone needs to be only in a close range if you're connected by Bluetooth. If you're connected to a WiFi network, the phone just needs an internet connection and can be on the other side of the world.

Thanks Foo
But it doesn't seem to be the case with mine
If I am at home or at work it will connect easily with the Wifi but only if the phone is there
without the phone its saying disconnected , maybe I am missing something
I did a test recently with mine. I left my paired smartphone (Smartphone_A) far out of range of my watch (>100m within a company building). The watch signaled that it is disconnected as it was only connected by Bluetooth before. The smartphone itself was only connected to a 3G network (no WiFi active).
I used a second smartphone (Smartphone_B, obviously not paired with the watch) and activated the mobile hotspot on it. I connected the watch to the mobile hotspot using WiFi and was able to connect to my paired smartphone:
Code:
Watch<---WiFi<--->Smartphone_B<--------->3G mobile data<--------->Smartphone_A
<--------------------receive notifications-------------------------->
I was really surprised that this worked, but it did, so I'm pretty sure, that they do not have to be both connected to the same WiFi or be within a close range.
The question is, why is it not working for you. How do you check, that you are connected to the WiFi?

Strange
with my phone on no problems it shows my house & work network on the watch & connects showing the correct SSID
with phone off I tested it 2 ways 1 clicked on google app (disconnected ) 2 Settings- About -Connection (disconnected )
Brgds
I see the problem, I also may have misunderstood the actual problem.
The status (Google app/about) which you are referring to shows if you're connected to your watch. If your phone is off, the watch can't connect to the phone. Even if the watch is connected to your WiFi, the watch will not go directly to the internet, but will use the WiFi connection to connect to your phone (cloudsync).
You can check the WiFi connection in the WiFi setting. See if the watch was assigned an IP address, if there is one, then you're connected to the WiFi.
I think you expected that the watch can directly connect to the internet and use things like Google now directly. but this is not possible.

Yes
I checked a few things, my phone was on & the google app works, turn phone off & the google app says disconnected
in wifi settings even with phone off it says obtaining IP then connects so I thought it would connect to google app
so if I understand correctly it wont connect directly to internet but the phone (cloudsync) even if the phone is on or off
Thanks for taking the time to clarify

all seems a bit pointless to have a wifi connection but cant really use it do anything
maybe some apps or updates in the future that will utilize the wifi option ??
Thx
I guess wifi is just helpful if you get out of range of the Bluetooth connection.
At home I often get out of range of the Bluetooth connection so the watch connects to my wifi and reconnects to my watch via cloudsync as long as I stay out of Bluetooth range.
When the watch gets back in reach it connects via Bluetooth again, because this is much better for battery life.
So wifi is only there to increase range but unfortunately not for standalone functionality. I also have a Youtube client and a webbrowser on my watch (just for fun, not really useful). Both apps also need the watch and will not use a direct wifi connection to load videos/websites from the Internet.
