I tried the method off the S10+ forums but for me anytime the screen would go off the bottom portion of the screen would just go dead until a reboot.
I ended up using vivid navigation gestures and just use the in app method to hide the navigation bar.

I turned off alternative keyboard detection in advanced settings and turned on Samsung touch home setting. Seemed to fix issues I had with no side effects so far.

The only issue I have ran into doing it this way is the fingerprint animation is a little bit lower than normal. But for that one small annoyance I will deal with it for navigation gestures that actually work.
Edit: when you do it this way make sure you have the navigation bar on in the normal settings on the phone and not gestures. If you have gestures on and you hide it with the app then a lot of things are out of place.

Funny thing is I'm using Set Edit (or whatever it's called) and have the foreground Guardian set and it works perfectly on my S10+.

I had to use adb to grant Vivid permission to hide the nav bar. Let me know if you need any other screenshots.
Not sure why I still have Setedit still installed, I hid it in my Nova app drawer so it doesn't run in the background or anyting.

My status / notification bar has started disappearing

ViperOne 5.9.0. My notification bar all of a sudden won't stay visible. Typically I have a gesture in nova launcher to show / hide it, but this wasn't it.
Still I use that gesture to bring it back, but as soon as I switch to an app other than desktop, it hides. Then it looks like immersive mode, which I don't use - that I know of.
So I also used macrodroid to create immersive mode on off buttons, which seem to do nothing.
I am trying to avoid restoring back because I have storage issues, and I'd like to fix this now. But I will do that if I must / when I can.
Any ideas?

Hide the nav bar/pill button completely?

Can anyone confirm if you use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar that you can keep the gestures but remove the nav bar etc completely?
Download a app called Pie Controls off the app store. I have been using it on my Pixel 2XL since I bought it and will be one of the many apps that will be installed first when I get home to do some work.
You can always try,
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
Don't forget to exclude gapps
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.android.chrome,-com.android.vending,-com.google.android.gm,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

The app is called "One Plus Gestures" They are similar to what is on One Plus phones but fully customization. It has a companion app that hides navigation without root.

I have a OP6 and love the gestures so if this hides the nav bar it's a no brainer for me, don't suppose you could post a screenshot showing how it looks?
I am wondering if this is a way to bring back to old style nav bars? Used to be able to add the line to the build prop then reboot and bam they were there. Dont understand why Google let you adjust the notch but not the navbar? It was pretty simple leave the line of code in that allows you to swap.
also curious if you can remove the pill completely in favor of swipe gestures, oneplus gestures are great, but would be better if the pixel 3xl supports this natively, if not, how can we hide the pill?

I would say that you are correct. I was comparing my 3 XL to my friends 2 yesterday and while both have Pie installed only he had that option to get the old navigation buttons back.
I really dislike these gestures, if anyone has run across an app or a setting to get the old three button navigation bar back please let me know. I haven't found much in my searching.
can we bring up the old nav bar yet ?
not a fan of gestures
I'm going to go against the grain: I think I *like* the new gestures instead of nav bar. I will admit I would significantly prefer a hardware home button, but in lieu of that, the gestures are fine. I've switched my 2 XL, for example, over to the new gesture system. To each their own -- if you don't like it, you just don't like it. But I would suggest trying it for a week or two.

From reviews I've heard the P3 has the option to bring back the old nav bar and the 3XL doesn't. Weird. I should be getting both of them in a few hours so i'll check out the difference.

Turn off screen gesture

Hi all. New on this phone, I've searched for this but could not find, so maybe someone here could help me. Is there a gesture to quickly turn off screen (had a gesture on my old nexus that was double tapping home button)?
Thanks in advance!
You could try 'Edge sense plus' (check the play store) to use the squeeze function to turn off the screen instead of launching the assistant. Personally I use nova launcher and swipe up to turn off the screen.
I'm sure there are other alternatives as well, but that's my 2 cents
I use the app called edge gestures on the play store. Works very well for me!

Is that the app that costs 1,77? Wich are the possible gestures for screen off?
Do you have the possibility to use the fingerprint sensor to turn screen off?
Thanks!
Yeah it does cost some money but I can't remember exactly how much. There is a native screen lock option for Android 9+ and I don't think there is any fingerprint gesture. It's primarily for the edges of your screen.

You could try turning on accessibility menu in the accessibility settings if you don't mind having a small icon to the right of the pill at the bottom of the screen. When you click it, there are several options given and lock screen is one. It's not a simple gesture swipe or a simple double tap but it may be an option.

Tried that, and it works, it appears a person button, and when you press it, it gives a lot of options, and the lock screen is one of them. I will keep using until a easier solution if found. I can not believe android will not include a gesture option for this by default.
I hate to have to press a button to lock the screen, they end up breaking/wearing so fast.
Thanks all for your responses, and other solutions are welcome. Cheers! :good:

Forgot to mention though that with it, when you open the camera app, you'll get this '5 second burst' label on the screen that some find annoying but I, for one, don't mind it.
Oh and when you're down and feeling blue, that small person icon seems to be ready to give a hug so just look at your phone. Hahaha

Yes now thinking it could be a accesibility info. I really do not like it. Will keep searching for other options... Don't mind to have a extra menu, but would preffer a native app and not a installed one. :good:

It's swiping/tapping from either the left, right, or bottom of the screen.
I use Wakeup touch Nexus, which, apart from letting you wake the screen using the proximity sensor, also allows you to turn off the screen by touching an icon on the desktop https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wolandsoft.wtn

Thanks, but looking for gestures apps or ways to lock the screen.
Check this widget out. It is invisible and adds double tap to lock functionality to any launcher.

Works without root in Android P or with root in Oreo and lower. In both cases, fingerprint unlocking works afterwards.

Landscape on home screen

Is there somewhere else I need to check to rotate the home screen? Apps and phone manager rotate fine.
You need a 3rd party app to make that happen, normally you swipe down to bring the notification screen, then tap and hold the gear until it spins and then it goes off the right side of the screen, at this point it would normally go to setting and then see the system ui tuner in the menu, but Huawei has removed this and you have to download "Activity Launcher", but I dont think this works anymore as it stopped working on my HN8 after it updated to 8.0. But those are the two ways to make it work.

[Q] Back button remover?

Hello,
I am just wondering if there is an option available, that would hide the back button while using the P (Pill) navigation on the Pie.. I'm asking mostly because of cosmetic standpoint.. For apps like Nova Launcher etc.. I love the functionality of the Pill, but because the back button always there, my OCD won't let me use anything else than stock launcher.
By the way, I saw the feature in some Pixel 3 XL ROM, on their forum (at least I think I did saw it..) That enables the Pill to swipe right to go back (as it should be by default by Google) If anyone has any idea or suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Maybe installing Nova Launcher as a system app would work?
I use custom navigation bar app to hide the nav bar all together and have it set up to only pop up when I swipe up on the navbar area. It then goes away a few seconds later.

I'm not sure if you can get rid of the back button but why don't you give the Fluid Navigation Gesture app a try. By using it you can completely get rid of the navigation bar and use only swipes from the bottom and/or edge of the screen to navigate. You can also set up all the actions you want to be present when you swipe up or swipe up and hold etc... Give it a try, a very useful app. ??
Thanks, I will try it!

Look at my screenshot. I have 2 back buttons with the pill. The symitry helps my cdo and having 2 back buttons is convenient.
If i remember correctly, it's done through adb shell. Let me try and find the thread...
Edit: this is the thread i used to give me the 2 back buttons.
