i got 2 questions:
1) i got a tmobile S3. if i unlock it, will it still work with tmobile and still use tmobile's 4G network?
2) i'm on prepaid with tmobile.. can i call tmobile and ask for an unlock code to unlock my phone?

1. Yes.
2. They aren't going to help you unlock it. Search on google for the procedure, it's very easy, takes only a couple of minutes. You can't be running a custom rom, only stock 4.1 to be able to unlock I believe as well.

If your phone gets the tmobile 4G network now it will have it after it's unlocked.
You could call Tmobile and ask for an unlock code but they will not help you.
OR you can simply unlock the phone yourself by following these instructions:
Try this:
1. Enter the following into the dialer: *#197328640#
2. From the menu that appears choose
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF >
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back,
now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ .....
wait for a minute then reboot your phone...
There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successful just reboot your phone.

T-Mobile's Terms of Service state that they will provide you with one unlock code every 3 months, but codes are available only for T-Mobile phones. If they try to give you trouble just throw the Terms of Service in your conversation and they will work with you. I have done this twice! Once with a T-Mobile GravityTXT and once with my own T-Mobile Galaxy SIII.

The only way you will get a confirmation is if you test the phone with an AT&T sim and a Tmobile sim.
It will work with both if it's unlocked.
If you get signal bars with both sim chips the phone is unlocked.

To confirm the phone is unlocked you will have to borrow a sim card from a different carrier
like AT&T put it into the phone turn the power on and see if it gets signal bars.
If it does it's unlocked. It's that easy.

I have an unlocked stock rooted AT&T i747 running 4.1.2. I want to use it on the Bell network. When I put in a Bell sim, it shows it has service, and the pda.bell.ca APN shows up, but it can't find the Bell network, only Rogers. Just wondering if anyone else has tried the same thing and had success or no? As it is I cannot call, text, or browse... Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
Is there an option in the network settings to select lte or wcdma?
Did you check to make sure the phone isn't listed as being blacklisted?

I haven't located any settings about WCDMA or LTE. On my i747m I'm used to being able to toggle between 2G/3G/4G. Nothing like that here. Bell's IMEI check approved it, and it's not on the national blacklist.

You say the Bell APN shows up but are you using it?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434995 has the APN, I assume you already looked it up but can be useful.
Getting service but no data is usually just not having data turned on.. So obvious question: Do you have it turned on in your settings/pulldown menu?
If your APN checks and data is turned on, you might have to give Bell a call (don't have to tell them you have a US variant).

Can you check to make sure your baseband matches your bootloaders? If it does, I'm out of options for now. Bell (or someone else) can probably help you further.

Once the phone has been unlocked, it will work on all carriers except Wind and Mobilicity.

It seems it should be that way... the phone is unlocked, but when I put a Bell sim in it it says emergency calls only. The only network that comes up to set as default is Rogers. Can you advise me as to how to make 100% sure the phone is unlocked?
Are you running a custom ROM? Can you change the network settings to wcdma only?

I rooted it with Chainfire's Odin Autoroot, but everything else is stock... I can't find a way to change the network settings to wcdma only... I'm trying to use it on a GSM network, anyway. Or am I not understanding?

Which carrier are you trying to use the phone with? If it is Telus/Bell/Koodo/Virgin, it should work without changing anything.
The only networks that support GSM are Fido and Rogers.

What stock ROM is on the phone? I had an i747m that was locked to Bell. I used the free method to unlock it, updated to 4.4.2, and it works perfectly on Rogers and Koodo.

The ATT should work on Bell and Telus. My Bell i747m could roam on ATT when I travelled to the USA.
Just to confirm: you can connect to the Rogers network but not Bell or Telus?

I actually had to get my account reprovisioned to use LTE on at&t. My old phone was not capable of LTE. Lucky i found a customer rep that knows what theyre doing. Im using the nxtgenphone APN and I am currently seeing the tiny LTE icon in the status bar

if u bought threw samsung there factory unlocked and bootloader locked....paid in full tmobile will unlock without any problems

Hello is anyone using the AT&T Note 5 unlocked on T-Mobile? I'm having issues with calls on this device and wanted to know if anyone else was having problems. When I went to T-Mobile they told me they had upgraded their towers and because my phone wasn't the T-Mobile variant it could no longer access the call service.
Any help is appreciated
Unable to receive calls whatsoever.
Spoke to Tmo and they said they've done some upgrades on the network and they're seeing this issue a lot more now with non-tmobile phones.
I'm now looking around to see if there are any radio/kernel/rom flashes that can help solve the issue.

7.0 with June 1st security update. Make sure you turn off wifi and be on lte.

Yes *2263# and unlock all your bands. TMO likes to use dedicated bands for RX and TX
For me setting the bands to automatic was the issue, if I set it to GSM and LTE it works fine. *#2263# > [1] Band Selection > [7] LTE/GSM Auto [*]

Thank you so much. It works! Spent weeks working with TMO support and their solution was to ask me to buy a new TMO phone.

Any advantage to the AT&T version over the T-mobile?

Not really att bootloader makes it a hard one to deal with plus better to have att service cause it hell getting it to work on any other network jsyk
But I love mine got the 64gig gold and even with no network not letting it go

Try to dial ##3282# and navigate to view apn settings, reset to default and it should auto adjust to your sim att phones are a pain with updates if you're not on their Network

I did get the android 10 update and now the hot spot is not working. I tried using the settings database editor to change the value of the tethering entitlement setting, but apparently it's not working with android 10...Any suggestions or should I just get rid of this att g8 too?
