I am now owner of what may very well be a Hard Bricked Samsung Galaxy S3 with the inability to reach Download Mode and computer not recognizing my handheld. It ll happen't as I unlocked my bootloader to go in fastboot mode, it was then, all over. But of course as desperate as it may look like I've done some researches on Google and some people with different models managed to have some magic done in a situation like mine, but since I didn't own the same device the solutions were of no avail for me. So my question is, is there any sort of trickery to help me come out of this misery? Such as force installing new QHSUSB_DLOAD specifically for a Samsung Galaxy S3 or some battery related magic that could help me reach Download Mode where I could flash a stock rom back in and get back to normal? Any help would be much appreciated.
this just happened to me as well today, not to happy, my heart sank in, did u find any solutions as far as fixing this qhusb thing?
AFAIK there is no fix, same deal on all phones with the same SoC, like the one x. I could be way wrong though and I hope I am. Hope you guys get up and running soon.

Most likely they will say that you voided your warranty so you may have to take it in to a JTAG service.

Any update on this? My phone did this to me last night when updating CWM. I'm about to go to Radio Shack to buy some resisters to see if I can force download mode, like on Captivates.
EDIT: Even though this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrZUrE5Nqj0) shows that the Jig works with the GS3, I was not successful in putting it into download mode. I was able to with my captivate, just to make sure I was on the correct pins.
Hopefully the AT&T store will just swap it out and leave it at that, since I pay for insurance...I don't want to have to send it away to mobiletechvideos.com for JTAG repair, but will if necessary.

You can look all you want for a solution, there is NOT one for this problem, other than find a jtag service. Period!

Wow, this is a complete waste of time. This will not work with SG3
Talking about "waist of time" you are in the wrong forum, the att sgs3 doesn't have locked bootloader (this is the att/bell/Rogers forum) Go to the Verizon sgs3 forum...

Regardless of where the phone came from the end result is still the same... you guys are hard bricked. The only available solutions to you atm (and trust me on this I hard bricked mine aswell) is
A - Send your phone in for warrenty/insurance, dont worry about everyone saying you cant because of voided warrenty... your bootloader is screwed and they wouldnt be able to tell anything about rooting/cwm etc.
B - if warrenty/insurance is unavailable to you then your only other options are to send it to samsung to get it repaired on your own dime. Or save yourself a bit of money and send it for jtag repair which is what I did. If you live in the states the guy can have your phone back in your hands usually within 4-5 business days.
hi there
i have an SDcard of 4GB i tried on 4 S3 i747M hard bricked phones its worked ....this card let them alive to download mode by pressing volume down key +home key + power. i want to share this image but when ever i connect this card to my PC (windows) its shows (need to format your card)
is there any software so i can make image and share...to help those who hard-bricked their phones.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own! Ah, anyway.. any updates on this? Its been a year or so.. I have the sprint s3, but i believe it had an insecure boot image flashed to it. The emmc boot method has failed me thus far. Not sure if it's because mine is a 32gb and the debrick files for for 16gb '(which shouldn't matter), if the board for my 32gb is affected by a brick bug, or what.. The qpst tool just seems like it's the perfect tool to fix a bad bootloader on any qualcomm phone, but all the guides I've found are for other phones still. I accidentally dd'd an image of my EFS partition to the sbl2 partition. I looked up the international s3 table by mistake

Yes. Download a live linux distro, like knopix or such. Any linux distribution will work, really. Then in a terminal you would do something like
Code:
sudo dd if=/dev/sdX of=debrick-image.img
Where the "X" in "sdX" corresponds to the sdcard you want to copy. After you insert the card, in a terminal do:
Code:
dmesg | tail
and you should be able to see that it is sdb, sdc, sdd, etc. Google the usage of "dd" if you need more info.
Thanks for info i'll try this today

Hello,
I've noticed that my volume buttons have pretty much stopped working. I don't think it's ROM related, I'm on tmcode's AOKP rc2 ROM and tried going back to CM10 stable and the problem was still there.
Sometimes they'll work randomly, but they're pretty much a write off it seems. My phone is under a year old purchased from Bell.
I've unlocked, rooted the phone, flashed CWM and have flashed numerous ROMS.
I'd like to try and see if they'll give me a replacement, or fix it or whatever before I get a new phone, which most certainly won't be an LG phone, too bad about the Nexus 4...
What's the easiest way to bring the phone back to a stock state? Do you think if I just flash Bell's ICS ROM it'll be enough?
Thanks
you haven't given us much info... my p930 works fine (edit spelling) on cm10 stable... if yours still aren't working i'm guessing one of two things.
1. maybe your rom flashing procedure is lacking... ? are you doing proper data wipes before flashing new roms?
2. did you jolt your phone? if you smashed your phone from the side the volume buttons are on its easily the contacts could have been damaged.
either way i think if your flash count is that high your warranty is probably useless, unless there is some way to hide all those custom roms you flashed but there isn't as far as i know.
you can only hope your problem can be fixed by doing a proper wipe... just another thought... have you tried restoring a backup from CWM from before you experienced the problem? this should confirm weather it is a hardware or software issue.

What do you mean "flash count is that high?" I mean, if they really care about that, just update through the LG updater tool and they would never know you've been flashing all sorts of custom ROMs.. Which, if you think it MIGHT be a software problem, that might not hurt anyway; but I doubt it's software related..

I see what you're talking about now. From what I can tell, it's on Samsung devices; I can't find any other references to it on any other brand... not saying that it isn't on anything else, but Samsung appears to not like people having full control of their device.
I don't think it's a software issue, I'm pretty sure it's hardware.
I know to do a full wipe when flashing between different ROMs.
My phones been dropped a couple times, nothing drastic though, that could have done it maybe. I've got a TPU (sp?) case on the phone.
What is the easiest way to bring the phone back to a stock state? LG GB/ICS ROM, un-rooted?
Thanks again

You can try running the official LG update tool; I'm not sure if that will work without doing anything else... I KNOW it works if you flash v18f and then update with the official software. Basically, run through steps 1-5 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645 and instead of doing anything after all that, just start the official update software and update to Official ICS.
" just start the official update software and update to Official ICS."
I'm using the Bell phone unlocked on Rogers, will I still be able to update to the official ICS ROM?

http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-P930#manuals
B2CAppsetup.exe is the app you'll need.
pretty sure by official lg update software he's talking about the tool you run on your pc that autoupdates your phone.
http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/mobile-support
is where you would find the tool, i'm not 100% positive on this more like 99% if you want confirmation you should wait for him to verify, but i know this is the official lg update tool.
---------- Post added at 06:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:35 PM ----------
if you blocked the lg site from your hosts file like the (*edit* un) bricking guide tells you to, you'll have to remove that line from your hosts file (127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com) and flushdns in order to communicate with the lg servers again. just in case you run into this, i'll try to have your answer posted before you can ask the question
to flush dns open the run prompt, type cmd, hit enter, type ipconfig /flushdns
you should get a success message this has refreshed your dns and you should be able to communicate with csmg.lgmobile.com again.
---------- Post added at 06:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 PM ----------
as per your 2nd question, i'm pretty sure you'll end up with A T&T but im not positive. however the at&t software will work if you enter your carriers APN settings, if you didn't write them down you can get them with a simple google search, go into mobile network settings on your phone select apn, then push the menu button and push new, then enter all your apn settings and your data should connect in a jiffy.

Yeah, the official update tool. That's the one I'm talking about; both links end up going to the same program - B2CAppSetup.exe
Good point on the hosts file, that's pretty important.
thank you just trying to him this guy get his phone going
Alright, once I find a cheapo phone to use while my Nitro HD / Optimus LTE is being repaired, I'll give this a go.
I just want to bring it back to stock state to remove root so they won't deny my warranty.
I remembered after I posted about the "B2CAppSetup.exe " program on LG's site.
My hosts file is untoched, I'm on a new install of Windows 8, I un-bricked a few months ago.
Thanks again for all the help.
I can't really, reliably, enter recovery any more...
I might try flashing the v20f Bell ROM via ROM manager and then try unrooting with super one click.
I do still have the first CWM backup I made of the stock GB ROM as well that I could restore maybe in ROM manager.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
So I flashed the original GB CWM / Nandroid backup I had made, then I tried un-rooting with SuperOneClick, but for some reason it wouldn't work.
So I used the LG software and updated to the official ICS release, Bell version, and the now the phone is un-rooted.
Time to send it off to hopefully get fixed.. what are the chances that I'll get my actual handset back? I've unlocked it, I'm betting I don't get mine back, but a locked one...
Thanks again for all the help
first of all you dont want yours back, the volume button issue is probably hardware, unless you flashed the wrong rom or a corrupted wrong or something. secondly if you updated to stock ics, your phone is already has a relocked bootloader, you should be so lucky as to get a brand new phone that you can unbrick in an hour...
*edit* unless there is some new security they are putting on the new ones but i haven't heard of such, it has always seemed to me they only implement security to the point where it will stop an unknowledgeable person from breaking the phone. the amount of software "leaks" suggest to me they don't really care if people that know what they are doing mod the phones. having said that they still won't replace a phone they know has been modded, for valid reasons, they shouldn't be responsible for things they didn't do to the phone.
So I got my handset back and the volume buttons have been fixed.
To get root and CWM recovery back is it easiest to just follow an unbrick guide?
Hello people, I randomly tried to flash internation model rom on my i747 model s3
it gave wrong model error so i went and modified asserts in the update file and made it pass the check. but phone wont turn on now. i do get red led when charging it. I know it sounds stupid but i just wanted to give a try (was assuming I would unlock the phone :laugh
anyways i do know that 16gb sd un-brick method. but i was wondering if there's a possible different method.
thanks for your time.
Only paying for a jtag service
looks like SD Unbrick method isn't working either, it's not turning on with unbrick sd. i did do a backup before all this. can anyone help here?
Dont give up. Many people have to run through the sd creation process several times before it worked.
It could also be the sd card you are using.

the thing is, all debrick img's posted on threads are for 4.3 and up. my phone was on 4.1.2 with an i747 bootloader.
going to order a usb jig (since diy's failed)
If you are on pre-4.3 firmware, it shouldn't matter what debrick.img you use. But if you do get it to boot it will not let you flash anything older than what the image is.

It is a good idea to have a jig handy. But you many not even need it for that one. The exact same thing happened to me (I747m - Fido).
Just make sure the SD card is the same size as your phone for the image.
I am assuming you already found all the steps? You can pm me if you need the necessary files.

I have tried many many debirck img's. both for t999 and i747, for 4.3 and whatnot. today i got the jig in the mail but the try failed, still wont turn on. i lost hope and i feel like sending it to ebay service is my only resort. the sd card i was using was a pixar class 10 16GB. idk what would go wrong with that.
the reason that i bricked it, again, is flashing wrong bootloader.
any help would be appreciated.
Idk bro the international s3 is a whole nother phone, it has a quad core exynos processor while we got a dual core snapdragon, it's got a gig of ram we got 2.... That's too name a few differences.....I think the only way to fix it is by a JTAG.......sorry bout the luck bro
O don't think he's got an international version. Thought he mentioned having an I747 before??

If you don't mind shipping to Canada I have a riffbox and could fix the issue for you.
The debrick method should work though. If it were me I wouldn't give up just yet. I'd at least try a few more times on every sdcard I could get a hold of. Often doesn't work on the first couple of tries, and AFAIK there's no way to know which sdcards will or won't work. Just gotta keep trying.
It is possible that for some reason this method simply won't work, but it has worked in the past for similar types of bricks.

Hi,
I have an LG X Power and was looking for the right place to post and only found this forum.
I am not sure if the LG X line (power, screen...) has the same rooting methods, so I thought I'd ask here and hope for the best.
Does anyone know of any way to root the LG X Power? I tried KingRoot (apk and pc methods) and the only guide I found has no comments and did not work.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Bump <3 i need.
Hi I also just got this X power phone from cricket, I did see that we have option in developer settings to allow oem unlock, however i cant seem to get to fastboot with it, I am thinking it is behind the LAF partition which is download mode....but cant zero it out to see without root...to the other fellas that have the same device does your recovery work? Only way I can even boot into recovery is by ADB reboot recovery.......but once there the menu seems to be hidden for me how bout you guys?
I also found a way to put the X Power into qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 mode without actually being in a soft brick etc. No modifications made at all it was pretty simple playing around with the device as it boots up you can get the device into this state, it appears that it is actually off but it is not. While booting if you hold power and vol down the device will reboot again and then you want to release and quickly immediately after the release hold power and vol up as well as vol down and if you got it right the device will then go to bulk mode from there I think we may be able to actually pull the protected partitions etc as we need also it is also possible to find some other exploits from there or use as a vector for something else.....If this info helped anyone let me know also if you have any ideas on being able to use something like this to push a root with dd commands that would be helpful...if you for some reason play around with your device in this state the way to get back out of it and boot normally is to hold vol down and power for a bit and the device will reboot even though it is in bulk mode which from my past experience I only went into bulk like that if i had edited the aboot....which at that point in a linux machine you can use gdisk commands to find the device then connect to it and change out the aboot etc....I am thinking this is a security hole that may exist on other lg devices and could possibly be important I hope in getting root etc on some of these 6.0+ LG devices.

Well i can tell you this much i can while in download mode push scripts etc via the com ports and even execute but its locked to the point it doesn't seem to allow remount like it used to on last gen lg devices but could be someone more advanced and knowledgeable in scripts that could help us hopefully also spurce is available to build with but without oem signature keys im doubting i can flash it even if i do build it....i guess i could try that but im highly doubtful it will work. So basically from my viewpoint we need a modified sceipt that cam be ran while in download mode or hope someone utilizes the quadroot vulnerabilities that this device is still vulnerable to in order to gain a root shell again with a script or apk of some sort...im for sure searching high and low for info if you want to help just help me get people together that are working on this device the more the merrier.

I'm waiting anxiously for this root.
Really need a root for this phone
I would love to be able to do this myself. How do people root a phone from scratch? What software do they use? I know you can mess with a ROM using android studio. However in this instance that would not help, because without a custom bootloader, you would not be able to install your custom ROM.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to learn how to root a phone from scratch? I don't mind putting in the time. Don't know where to start.

Has anybody tried the root method from this thread? It looks promising.

Hey, yeah cool phone (Boost version) but I don't think we'll ever see root on it.
Reminds me of when I had my Tribute 5 which I was able to root with King Root at the time.

Good luck I guess.
I like the boost one because it has higher specs. It scores almost double that of the other versions on AnTuTu.
Found a great deal for them new on eBay for $59.
Have you checked out the hardware differences/ benchmarks of each?
Can run a little hot, but still works great.
The only thing I will miss is Viper4Android.

Yours probably gets much better battery life though.
found another topic about the device http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/unofficial-lg-x-power-thread-t3474426
the model number for the lg x power is k450
First of all: Do not continue if you don't know what a hard brick is!!!
so well its that simple: Either my method will work or fail.
Please follow the story here now:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/bl-unlock-unlock-bootloader-proof-t3648288
Previously this was the OP:
if not: this could result in a completely unusable device (soft or even hard bricks are possible)
If it works: you could unlock your phone in fastboot with a simple command - no unlock key is required (but even when the method WORKS its possible that this produces other issues. we can not know all impacts yet)
So AGAIN
The whole process is dangerous but the chance to get an unlocked phone would be worth it - maybe. It depends on you.
I can't test it atm by myself because my device is on its way to LG (due to another issue)..
My method does not modify something within the bootloader like others tried already - because this would definitively break the boot chain.
I will not release any details to the public until there is anything proofed or verified. The whole process is very risky and as said: I have currently no device to test it.
The only thing which is proofed is the theory. It should work as long as nothing unpredictable happens: As long as we do not own the complete sources of all parts of the boot chain there is still a risk.
Keeping the details under the hood is not to make things mysterious. It's just for safety reasons until I can proof anything.
If you still ask for details here or by PM they will not be answered.
If you not able to join an IRC channel you better leave it directly.
I'm not 24/7 online but usually from Mo-Fr for sure so it is important to wait for answers while in the IRC because depending on your timezone this can take some hours (hey I have to sleep somewhen!)
Once I have my device back from LG I can test the method by myself on a H815 EUR version. It doesn't matters that this can be officially unlocked though. The risks are the same.
So if you're too scared for the moment just wait about 2 weeks or so and then I can tell if it worked on my device at least.
.... and if you do not want to wait: Follow me into the IRC for instructions
If you never were in touch with IRC before here are some client examples for you:
PC (HexChat and Pidgin are only 2 of them! This list is not complete!)
Android (Yaaic, AndChat, HoloIRC, AndroIRC are only a few of them! This list is not complete!)
The IRC channel is: #Carbon-user
The IRC server network is: freenode
Once you're connected with the IRC network I need this from you:
your phone model
the currently installed EXACT firmware (link to the used KDZ would be most helpful. If you have none check the phone details and e.g. make screenshots)

Super excited about the possible G4 unlock! Wish I could test it but my phone is my daily driver and my source of internet at home so if it breaks, I'm screwed for my online classes. Thanks for your hard work as always!

It happened to mine 818p too, you need to disasseble it and short two pins on the motherboard while starting it. (They are in the upper left corner on the MB.) This page (forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f779/unbrick-lg-g4-brick-hs-usb-qdloader-9008-without-box-2211744/) has the entire process explained but I was unable to sucessfully use the QFIL app, it didnt recover anything, at least the phone was seen on PC as the 9008 serial port. I hope it helps
P.S: Sorry for my bad english.
i hope you get it going man. so lots of users can enjoy this device like it should be.. youll be saving LG G4.. am glad that what i mentioned you got your brain thinking and finding ways i beleive this all was what i mention on fish. good luck to all of you.:fingers-crossed:

Qcom 9008 mode? It could be fixed afaik.. You can also try the sdcard boot method for this kind of brick. you should try that first in any case..
I'm not sure if my method will work in that kind of brick mode you are in but if you nevertheless want to test you need Linux / best is using FWUL because it has everything needed inside.
Once ready went to IRC on Mo-Fr and stay until Im there.

it depends. When it stays in download mode without looping.. yes - maybe!
I need access to to the partitions which may work even in download mode via a special shell but it may requires MM and will not work for LL firmware (strange right? normally one would expect the other way around..).
That has to be tested though. On my device (locked H815) I had access but that may differ from other models.
Having root access makes things so much more easier
Testing if it would be possible on a bootlooping device would be simple:
You best use FWUL (recommended because here is all installed and working) or any other Linux with the LGLaf shell.
You would then connect while in download mode and you will have a shell like in adb.
I can guide you but again IRC is the best way to go here..
I'm searching since several days for such looping and even otherwise broken/defect devices but they all want to have a plenty of money for it (80-150 €!!)

Yes, QCOM 9008 mode. I can't flash the H815 image and make my G4 H815 again so, the only way to booting, it's flashing the LS991 image (and with Fastboot; I flashing every partition one by one).
I have Linux Mint whit adb/fastboot drivers, It's enough?

Hmm I can't help you unbricking. I just know that there are ways to do so. You need the correct drivers etc.. But well if you tried all this already we can try
Any Linux is ok as long as you can handle it
Havin TeamViewer installed may help too...
Well so if you like go to IRC Monday to Friday and we will see

Yes. today I have bad and good news.
First of all I had 1 single tester who was brave enough going the first approach I had. Unfortunately my first idea failed.
JL if you see this come back I said I can unbrick your device!!!
Ok so the good news are: I'm able to give you a near unlocked experience with all the things you love like installing custom kernel, recovery and ROM. Without actually unlocking!!! It's all tested on a h815 device which was never unlocked !
Near unlocked means it will behave like an unlocked device without actually unlocking the bootloader. Or to say it in other words: The boot chain verification is ignored.
The bad news: the process is not cleaned out yet but it requires one thing for sure: it will convert your whole device bootloader stack. The basic idea is to replace the whole bootloader stack with a modified one which allows all the mentioned things.
That way is very risky and I HARD bricked my device over 30 times until getting to the finally working result.
It also means that once your device is converted there is no way back atm. Flashing an original kdz will BRICK your device in 9008 mode! Not that bad because you can recover at any time but that's one thing you have to have in mind. It may never be a h811, h812..... whatever again. Until we find a corresponding and working bootloader replacement which may never happen. So no LG up or LG flash tools anymore! Instead you will have the qfil tool.
Again I know no way back to original state so warranty will be very very likely refused once you do this. Ok there is a way to blank out all partitions just for the case you need to send it really back. This should delete then most traces of this hack but no guarantees.
Besides this I don't know if there are any issues in functionality after doing all this. I havent made any tests for this yet. That includes phone calls, WiFi etc. I just checked booting ROM, booting TWRP, flashing supersu, getting root.
I will upload a video asap to show you the current result.
I need to test things further and of course I need testers with other devices. Again that process is risky and even if it worked for me it may not work for you (very unlikely but who knows). Manually forcing the 9008 is very easy and it may be required to do so. This may requires opening the device (I think it will work even without but I need testers.. ) so if you want to test... See you in the IRC.
If all this is working and verified by others I will provide the whole story ofc!
....can't believe that all these above took me 5 days in full time of work. And for what? I mean I do not need it because I can unlock my device OFFICIALLY..
BUT it was all for educational learning. I learned really a LOT of android and qcom during all these hours ...
Ok but Now I need some couple of hours of sleep
See u on the other site..

so........what now ? i have a F500k device . and i'm willing to test your method . but i'm not sure what you are saying here. ( i didn't understand a single word) . but if it means that i can't flash official KDZ or can't use LGUP....no problem to me.
just share to me how i'll do it and if i hardbrick how i'll restore it. thats all.
