Which new recent Nokia phone have rom support ? - Nokia 8.1 Questions & Answers

Unfortunately I am selling my new phone, just because its do not support rooting and unlocking so no further chances to get custom roms.
any one have any suggestions for new phone? Nokia ?

Not from Nokia for sure. HMD Global doesn't support bootloader unlocking for any devices and that's a dead end. Some can be unlocked, but the support will be nearly non-existent since there will be very few unlocked users.

As I remember, Nokia 8 is the only one got bootloader unlocked.

I knew Nokia 8 has BL unlocked, so I thought 8.1 would eventually got that too. That's why I bought Nokia 8.1 when it came out.
Time passed, and the fact is that I was so wrong.

Few questions regarding G4

Hi guys i have few questions regarding the lg g4 hope u can help
1. How is the bootloader system and how it works in comparision to htc's s-off and s-on cause with htc's if you got some hardware problems u just go stock and s-on voila valid warranty.
2. How broad is the developer base and interest in lg devices as comapred to htc and samsung devices.
3. How broad is the scope for developer support for dual sim g4 variant as this is the one being launched in India (kind of hoping that they will launch the international variant.)
4. Now i know that there are various guides for root and flashing and everything but i just gotta ask this is there some software to be used like samsung's odin
for flashing or is it direct like htc just use cmd.
5. One last question im stuck between note 4 and lg g4 and i am not able to make up my mind between these two so hoping that members with can help me this.
I have used samsung and htc but i have no idea regarding lg never used one so please bear with me.

The bootloader is currently locked and cannot be unlocked. It will take a developer to try and find an exploit to be able to unlock it. With the G3, this took around 6 months. If and when it is unlocked there should be good developer support. There is currently no root methods for the G4,it can't be rooted at the moment.

can lg systems be completely relocked like htc's (s-off to - s-on complete stock) to use the warranty in case of some hardware defect.

Is my model unlocked or not, and other stuff

Hi all,
I have a HTC that when I bought it, they SAID it should have been unlocked but I don't know if that means my bootloader is unlocked or something else. how can I tell if my model is unlocked model (model is just HTC 10 and I don't have any provider software installed on it either) ... I mainly ask as Android 7 was released to unlocked HTC 10 last year but I got no OTA notifications that it is ready for me.
Also if this doesn't mean that the bootloader unlocked and I need to go through it at HTCDev, then I believe this will wipe the phone... so I need to backup my stuff before I can unlock the bootloader, so I can root my phone, so I can install my backup stuff (Titanium Backup) any help on this one? i'm used to Samsung so the changes in how things work I'm still getting my head around.
Nobody knows? Is this the correct part of the forums to ask this sort of question? I didn't want to post in the wrong section and this seemed to be the closest fit.

When you buy a phone and if seller says that phone is unlocked it usually means "carrier/sim unlocked". Your phone might be carrier unlocked, but bootloader unlock is different. When you unlock bootloader than phone gets wiped. Google servers usually backup your apps and some data, but videos/music/photos I backup on my PC by connecting phone to a computer and copying files to a folder.
If you bought directly from HTC w/o purchasing through a carrier (such as Sprint, AT&T, Verizon), then you have an "Unlocked Model". That's completely different from having an unlocked bootloader, which is not necessary to get the Nougat update. If you have an unlocked (carrier-free) HTC 10, then you should be able to get the update. I restored mine to stock, and was able to update to 7.0. It's possible that it's not available in your country yet, or that there's some funny software glitches occurring.
Hope that helps!
Thanks all for the confirmation. So from that I do know from when I got my phone, which was only 4 weeks ago, and no modifications to it whatsoever
a) my phone is carrier unlocked
b) I need to unlock my bootloader but to do that I need to backup my app data, Google didn't backupt he app data when I migrated phones, so all my apps were empty and brand new when it all restored to my new phone... oh well.
c) whilst i SHOULD be eligible for nougat as I have a carrier unlocked HTC 10, perhaps it isn't available in Australia for HTC yet. My colleague who has a pixel XL is still rubbing it in my face that he has 7.1.1 already
Thanks

Rats..... i'll just keep waiting, or wipe my device unlocking the bootloader so I can flash a custom ROM like Viper or the like. Decisions. Wonder when the rest of the world will get the update

Verzion Google Pixel 2 XL Bootloader/Oem Unlocking?

Hi all, I recently bought an "unlocked" google pixel 2 XL on ebay from a generally trusted seller but I have been super frustrated with issues I'm having with trying to unlock my bootloader and enabling OEM unlocking. The button literally remains grey and I have tried many things to get it to toggle but it won't (sim card, terminal commands, resetting multiple times). I'm also doing this on a mac since I don't have a pc. The command tells me it is not allowed.
It is Android 9. I found out from another user that it is because it was originally Verizon. I have looked through a lot of the helpful xda forums and threads but I haven't found one that lays out a method for unlocking Verizon Google Pixel 2 XL.
Is there a simpler way to unlock it, does anyone know? Could I go straight to Verizon and ask them to unlock it for me? I'm super frustrated or am I SOL and should return the phone? This is my first time using an android so I would appreciate any help.
Thank you very much in advance.
Since nobody else is replying. I think your sol if it is indeed a Verizon phone. There's a discussion on xda about it.

Nothing you can do. Just install the 11 beta and enjoy life.
Think of it this way. Since root isn't possible for you passing Safetynet will never be a problem.
I have the same issue. What I've found is OEM unlock isn't available because your pixel was originally on Verizon
Mine is verizon i just received the QQA3 update oem unlocked was available in a hurry i unlocked it without hesitation

Hm, if you load dsu, from there it's still locked right? if it's possible... i've seen in dev options, but never tried tho... previously it required unlocked boot, but since it's in dev options.....

It's not possible as the bootloader will still be locked. Its presence in developer options doesn't change that.
The only way to get past the bootloader lock, if you're not one of the lucky ones like @tfat, is to install a ROM using the device's emergency mode. The problem is getting a firmware package that uses that mode. A regular ROM download won't cut it.

Yes, boot will still be locked, but since GSI image is basically a stock version of OS, it would not come with Verizon services and maybe toggle will be unlocked?

It won't work as you must have an unlocked bootloader to even install the GSI image. There is a 50+ page thread detailing attempts to unlock the Verizon device. No one on that thread succeeded. If what you proposed did work that thread wouldn't exist as yours is one of the easiest solutions.
Unless you can unlock the bootloader or somehow get a tech center restore image using emergency mode you're dead in the water. And don't think you can simply guess the decryption key either. To find the key would currently require spending an amount of time greater than the current age of the universe.
EDIT: Finally, check out the factory images page for our device. Notice how for the most part there are no images specifically for Verizon? That's because the device uses a different method to identify itself as a Verizon device. It's almost a certainty that the IMEI is part of it.

This method only works on the Pixel 1. You can get to the point where you can toggle the "OEM Unlocking" switch (in my testing its always defaulted to on once togglable), but running "fastboot flashing unlock" fails.
According to the person who found this method out, it's because the Pixel 2 has an on-board security chip that deals with OEM unlocking, with the 1st gen Pixel doesn't have :/
It's probably a very safe bet, and sad to say, that since no one found a way to unlock the Verizon Pixel 2 XLs in it's 2.5 years of existence, there will be little if any work put into finding a way at the 3 year mark with 2 (maybe 3) newer models on the market since the 2 XL became available.

I just bought 7T from OnePlus website for T-Mobile version and it's paid off full. Is it able to flash international version?

you can use fastboot rom from the guide section and flash that in fastbootd. its pretty easy to do. my 7t used to be on global but i returned to tmobile stock rom just for the google feed on the left instead of shelf. Before asking questions, just read a couple of pages back to avoid spamming the same questions others have had.

Should I back up some files in case some issues happen? Such as finger print doesn't work when the bootloader relocked? Because of I saw in other some pages in OnePlus 8 series.

i mean i havent backed up anything in relation to persist since ive also seen how to the fingerprint scanner is affected on the oneplus 8. i have relocked my bootloader on my 7t and the only thing not working is ota. i have no other issues besides that. fingerprint works fine after custom rom flashing and switching between global and tmobile stock rom. so id say you are fine since the msmtool does restore everything on the 7t. if you care about widevine level it'll return to stock if you go back to the locked bootloader state. also never re lock the bootloader when running anything custom to avoid issues(brick/bootloop).

I got problem today, but I'm not sure what's going on. I got my sim card in oneplus 7T and the device has been unlocked, the reason I said unlocked because of advance option show this device has been unlocked and able to use any of carriers, but there's no signal at all in my device. I switched the sim card to other phone and it's working, so I put my friend's sim card in oneplus 7T and it's working. Now I don't real understand why it's not working. When I got home and the device is working again.
Do you know anything about it?

Hi,
I am new Poco F3 owner,
I got the Amazon black Friday deal £50 off,
my variant has 8gb of rom & 256gb of ram, all this for £269.00p,
what an Amazing price and also comes with 2 years warranty here in the UK.
I have been a LG users for many years, using the (G2, G4, and for now a G7) .
I have installed many custom roms on these devices over the last 8 years.
Unlocking/locking there bootloader have been relatively straight forward.
I asking the same question that I am sure has been asked many times before,
once my 7 days are up and i have unlocked my bootloader and i then lock it again,
but then further down the line i decide to unlock it again,
do i have to wait another 7 pointless days.
I'm loving the new poco F3, apart from the firmware is a bit restrictive,
hence why I'm unlocking the bootloader.
What a great community the F3 has , long may it continue,
regards,

No, you only have to wait the first time.
This waiting time is not so pointless as it seems however. It is there to discourage a.o. the many traders flashing (often fake) 'global' roms on Chinese phones and selling them as genuine global models for extra profit. So in the end it's only for your protection, because flashing roms invalidates warranty.
so just to clarify there is no limit on unlocking and relocking this phone right?

xiaomi unlock tool its infinite dont worry, but be extreme cautious when you are locking your bootloader make sure your are in your right stock rom and dont forget to unlock again when you are going to flash custom roms and recovery
To lock the bootloader you can simply use "fastboot oem lock" in fastboot mode. Note that doing so will (obviously) factory reset your phone.

in the event where i lose my phone an unlocked bootloader can bypass any password protection if they have the knowledge right?
is there any way to protect the phone from this?

If you mean screen lock, yes they can bypass it. But they cannot get into your banking apps or others which have their own passwords.
If you are really keen on it, just lock the bootloader.
