Pixel 3 XL won't play music in car bluetooth - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I have a Kia Optima 2017 and a Pixel 3 XL. It's been working fine till 2 days ago. The phone connects to the radio and the music plays on Google Play, but no audio comes out. I've tried unpairing the phone, went into the car radio and deleted the saved phone. Restarted the phone, turned off and on the phone. The music app shows the music playing, but nothing comes out the speaker. I've tried bluetooth speakers and the music comes out fine. I've tried radio stations and the car speakers do work.

I have a pair of LG-TONE HBS-730 earphones and also a FM transmitter in my car. Last night and this morning I had a similar problem as yours, and I had to restart the phone so I could hear music and calls through the bluetooth devices. A couple of hours ago, I tried again and everything worked very well, BUT after disconnecting them, the phone went like it was on Silent Mode. No sound at all, no ringtone, no music, even the alarm didn't emit any sound, so I had to restart the phone and sound got back to normal. At this moment I am doing some tests connecting and disconnecting the BT earphones, but the problem is gone, so I don't know what's going on.

On my s3 it paired automatically! on the s4 i had to do this.....
With the Power off, press the CALL button and move the power switch to the ‘ON’ side at the same time for 4 seconds to manually place the headset in pairing mode
I hope this helps!
Use BT all the time on my gs2 ill try this out tomorrow and see if there is anything out of the ordinary.
Needing to pair the bt device to the phone is very normal for the very first use - especially if its been paired with another device in its history. Ive found bt devices (headsets like the jabara bt3030/street2) often cant really have more than 1 or two pairs total or they dont connect / dont stay connected properly.
Also the samsung bt stack has had lots of issues with BT devices over the galaxy generations. hopefully its not back.
I've used a Moto S10 & S11 HD stereo BT and 2 different Jawbones without issue.

Bluetooth is somewhat broken.....

I have to unpair and repair my Bluetooth headset every single time I use it. (phone audio only). Looks like Samsung really borked up BT.
Thinking about upgrading to MDL this weekend to see if that fixes it.
i dont know about bluetooth with car, but i listen to my bluetooth headphones every day at work for hours and i have had no probs whatsoever with my bluetooth. it paired really easy like too easy and that was it.
I guess thanks for the fact that at least it works manually so in my case its a 100% software issue.
I'm having no issues with phone or media when hooked up to my car.

I have the same problem with my Denon aftermarket head unit.
My Motorola BT headset pairs ok, but the quality of the audio is so bad to my callers I can't use it. On my S3 it sounded fine. I had to switch to a different headset that's giant and stupid.

2011 Hyundai Sonata
have a jabra headset and its paired excellently 100% of the time
Had minor issues (device based) when it was "paired" to 2 devices.
Use Bluetooth Auto Connect from play store. I was having the same problem except mine connected on to media instead of phone. That app fixed it right up.
Mine will drop connection intermittently to my VW RNS-315 head unit and also drop connection to my Jawbone Icon HD. When it drops the Jawbone I often see a message on the screen that says Bluetooth Sharing has crashed. Not sure if this is as a result of the rooting process or if it's a glitch in the latest firmware. Hoping Samsung will fix and T-Mo will release patch soon.
Have yet to have an issue here with my S4 and my JVC Arsenel (Dont remember which model #, was one of the higher single DIN units a year ago though), use it daily and it connects on its own without issue / hassel both phone and media
I experience the same phone only problem with my Ford Sync system, I have to manually check Media audio, but it pairs both the first tube after unpairing. I'll try the Play Store app and report back today. I will say is nice to see voice control over bluetooth has been fixed in Jelly Bean.
UPDATE: Bluetooth Auto Connect (The first one listed in a Play Store search by Jakub Klos) works flawlessly to connect Phone and Media audio. Thanks @Sym_Link!
No problems with bluetooth here, my Pioneer radio in my Grand Marquis, both audio and phone sync flawlessly. However, my Sony unit in the Saturn, will sync the phone no problem, but I still have to manually check the box to sync with audio.
My experience w/ BT audio has been variable. I have an aftermarket head unit installed on a '05 Acura RSX (JVC-NSX1 - http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbtcspd/p_105NSX1/JVC-KW-NSX1.html).
Note: my headunit also utilizes MirrorLink...which is just flippin' awesome.
BT Media audio seems to be very app dependent. I use Grooveshark and Play Music for my day to day listening, and I find that my Grooveshark will auto-play when BT Connects but if I'm going from a fresh power cycle of my automobile to Google Play I have to start the app on my phone prior to accessing the in-dash controls on my head unit.
Other times I can just select in dash controls and it will play Play Music.
Ironically, since the iOS 6.0 update plugging in the GF's iPhone no longer plays audio (freaking Apple). So if she wants to stream media it's only available over BT. Ah, progress!

Bluetooth audio skipping on Pandora and factory music app

I connected my XZ1 compact to my Kenwood KMM515BT car receiver for the first time yesterday and immediately noticed the music was skipping. I tried reinitializing the bluetooth on the Kenwood and re-pairing and also tried several music apps (Pandora streaming and the stock music app reading music from the SD card). I also tried restarting the phone and shutting off bluetooth tethering. Nothing fixed or improved it at all. My Galaxy S5 Active works fine with this receiver. Anyone else having this issue?
edit: I guess I accidentally put this in the wrong forum. I guess it should be in Q&A. Sorry about that.
I also just checked this on my Dual bluetooth car receiver that's in my other car and it works perfectly fine in that car with all my music apps. That unit doesn't have aptX (the Kenwood does), which makes me think this might be related to that.

have you tried the other bluetooth drivers?
i believe the default is SBC. you also can choose from aptX and aptX-HD

I did, but the car receiver only seems to work when I select aptX. When I select anything else I lose the audio completely which is odd because my wife's iPhone 6 works fine and that phone doesn't support aptX.
I came up with a work around for this car for now. I unpaired my XZ1c with the car and I've left my old S5 paired to it and stashed it in the glove box with a charge cable connected. It has no sim and has only my music apps installed, and I have bluetooth tethering set up between that phone and my XZ1c. Sometimes I have to reselect "use xz1 compact for internet" on the S5's bluetooth menu when I get in the car but otherwise it's working reliably and the audio quality is excellent. Not the greatest solution but it's a solution anyway.

i happen to think that's a great solution. i was already considering dedicating my XZ1C as my music/gps station in my car in this exact setup. you also get to double up on battery life, and no mounting-unmounting

Bluetooth issues

I just bought a z2 about a week ago. Been a great phone so far. It updated to Oreo as soon as I turned it on.
There is one issue. Bluetooth. When I originally connected it to my Alpine cd-hd148bt, it would stream music, but the phone profiles would not load. So I updated the bt firmware on the headunit. Now if I restart the headunit, it will connect with all the appropriate icons for audio and phone. If I start an audio app, it says playing, the head says playing, but there is no sound. After a couple of minutes, the entire phone will disconnect from the deck. It won't come back until I pull the faceplate and reboot the headunit. Even turning off the car and powering off won't get the bt to work.
Does anyone have any ideas? I love listening to Pandora, and my city has a hand free law, so I would love to have the phone working also.
PLEASE HELP!! I will owe you a cookie.
Thanks
Edit: unlocked bootloader and magisk 15.2.
im also having issues with bluetooth, since headset will disconnect from time to time and while streaming music to a bluetooth speakers (bose, harman, jbl, chinese, etc) audio will cut from time to time, until bluetooth connection drops an will have to restart phone in order to connect again
I am also having Bluetooth issues, keeps disconnecting from my headphones, or connects and doesn't stream. Supposedly with Oreo Bluetooth had been updated to version 5.

Anyone having Bluetooth issues?

Like I get disconnects from my car. The phone audio won't come through ones I turn on media audio. It's a mess. Anyone experiencing this? Is there a way to clear the Bluetooth cache? I googled and see how to do it on earlier versions but not pie. Tia

@DrUnkeN_TiGeR My car only supports telephone/contacts, not audio. I had to buy a cheap BT audio receiver and now everything works fine. What is the year/make/model of your car? Was it working with your previous phone and which one was that? You can find network reset in settings to reset bt.
I had an issues popup the last few days of playing music via BT to a BT Speaker.. after I stopped playing music, the volume rocker/popup would randomly show up, I was still connected to the BT Speaker but not playing anything and quit out of Spotify. I turned off BT and it stopped. Also, when I was playing music connected to BT, I randomly quit playing through the speaker. I had to turn off BT and turn it back on to resume play. Just sharing my issues.
Before the December update, all was perfect with one exception, the audio information would not show in my car while using certain music apps. After the December patch, audio now cuts out every once in a while. Like the pixel 2xl did the entire year I had it... Google seems to have issues making their bluetooth work like it should. Hopefully the January patch will fix things (not holding my breath).
Glad to hear not just me thanks guys

This exact thing has happened to me. I think it has only occurred with Play Music but I don't know if that's the cause. Didn't occur before December update.
More details. It seems to happen when I've advanced a song but that could be coincidence. I get no audio. I have a Subaru and I can see on the even display BT disconnected. Then it starts to cycle between connected and disconnected until I just turn on BT on my phone. Even though it briefly reconnects it doesn't actually function. No audio
