Install ROM - Failed to mount '/firmware' (invalid argument) - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hi, trying to install custom ROM on Nokia 6.1
Unlocked bootloader.
Boot into TWRP.
Wiped partitions and format data and internal storage partitions.
Slot A: install OmniROM and Community Vendor.
Switch to Slot B: install OmniROM and Community Vendor then Wipe Dalvik.
But TWRP gives these errors when installing ROM and Vendor on Slot B:
Code:
"Failed to mount '/firmware' (invalid argument)"
Is this normal to receive this error on Slot B?
And in TWRP if I go into the Mount menu it won't let me select Firmware (if I am in Slot B).
Is it possible to mount /firmware on Slot B?

[Q] Can I flash slimkat o to i747m? on koodo (telus I believe)

I rooted and am running stock 4.4.2 I believe, tried using twrp 2.8.6.0 (most recent version I think). I have the gapps and d2lte zip on my phone but if I reboot into recovery and try to wipe what it says in the tutorial (dalvik, cache, system and data) I get an error in red (I think it says something about being unable to mount something). If I try to reboot it tells me no os is installed and I have to use Odin on my pc to use Cf auto root to be able to use my phone again. I noticed if I go into recovery at all, even without doing anything it will tell me no os is installed and I have to use odin could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how I can get it working? Thank you

Hi!
Yes, you can definitely flash SlimKat on an i747M. It has been my daily driver for quite some times, I have too an i747M (though from Rogers).
Generally speaking, any d2att/d2lte ROM can be flashed on a i747M. ROM developers don't include files like modem or bootloader in their packages, so it is generally safe to flash ROMs made for the AT&T SGSIII on our Canadian variant. Needless to say, though, that is is a general statement: it is always safer to wait for a more experienced user to confirm everything works before diving in.

Knowing the exact partition that could not be wiped may be helpful. Try to grab the actual complete error message.
That being said, if you are not able to boot into an OS, it certainly mean that at least part of the system partition and/or the data partition have been wiped. Missing (parts of) the OS and core programs is the cause for your phone not being able to load properly.
You may want to restore your latest backup (I'm sure you did one before starting the wiping process, have you?) to get your phone back to its previous state.
If you don't have a backup, then you may want to try what Audit13 suggests (wiping again from your recovery, and installing the custom ROM), or you may want to use Odin to go back to stock -- to make sure you have a working phone to fall back -- and start the whole rooting/custom recovery installation/custom ROM installation process.

I'm not at home right now but I'll try to get a picture of the error if I get it again
For being told I have no os, that will pop up even if I don't do anything, just booting I to recovery and then selecting restarting without wiping anything I'll be told I don't have an os

External SD not recognized in Rom or Recovery

Hi, i didn't use my m8 for a while. I had flashed a Liquid-Smooth Lollipop-Rom and wanted to setup the phone again until i noticed that the external SD card is not mounted and not recognized at all.
SD card itself is not the issue, i tried it on different phones and computers, it worked all fine, formatted it in FAT32 etc.. It's working on any other system, but not with the m8. Also other cards are not working with the phone.
I tried PhilzRecorvery and TWRP and the Cyanogenmod 12+13 (using adb sideload), no changes at all.
My Phone is S-ON, at the moment i use TWRP v2.8.7.0 and Cyanogenmod 12.1.
Using the partitioning function of TWRP it says
E: Unable to locate device or partition

If i go to the Wipe menue and select "Micro SDcard" and "SD-Ext" it says:
E: mkdosf process emded with ERROR=1
E: Unable to wipe ' /external_sd' .
E: Unknown MTP message type: 1
E: Unable to wipe 'external_sd'

I hope these are all the necessary infomations. I am not very experienced in modding android, but at least i know how to flash roms and the basic sdk-plattform tools, whatever.
Thank you very much and please be kind, i am not an expert!

Problems with data partition

Hi,
I tried to flash viperOS using squid twrp for moto G5S, but something in the process i think i did wrong.
My phone model is montana xt1790.
I unlocked the bootloader.
I tried to install the recovery, but had same problem than @dau999

I tried to flash "no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip" file posted as solution here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74813124&postcount=23.
After this i have working the recovery, but i believe this is what did wrong:
With debug mode enabled, after a wipe clean (Cache, Data, Dalvik/ART and system) and format data (wipe all your apps, backups, pictures, videos, media and removes encryption on internal storage) got this errors:
Code:
Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto folder.
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Unable to mount storage.
Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
After this errors i flashed ViperOS, but after first boot it, first thing viper OS ask me was the phone password, after i enter it, the phone show up a message saying that password is ok but data is corrupt, restarting and trying to fix my phone without success (same errors like failed to mount /data)
Also i tried to use the "repair or change file system" selecting Data partition, twrp show me this: http://oi65.tinypic.com/2prin8y.jpg, also i got this errors:
Code:
/sbin/fsck.f2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p54 process ended with ERROR: 255
Unable to repair Data
What should i do?, i don't know is related with an encryption on data partition, or if this can be solve.
EDIT:
Found the solution in reddit: www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/7w5c75/used_the_format_data_option_in_twrp_recovery_on/
Just fixed the issue after making a second format in TWRP ( WIPE > FORMAT DATA)

E: Failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument) - ZE551ML

Hi All,
I have a ZE551ML (4 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM) that belongs to a friend. Yesterday, he was using it when suddenly all apps force closed and the device rebooted after which, there's a bootloop. We tried factory reset and it is able to format /data but throws the error E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument). Because of this we cannot flash anything as well (remote cmds error). We tried flashing with SD Card, fastboot, ASUS Flash Tool and from what it seems, the flashing fails because it is unable to mount the cache partition.
Can anyone guide on how to fix this issue?
Is it an eMMC failure?

Unable to restore TWRP backup: "Failed to mount /system (Structure needs cleaning)"

Unable to restore TWRP backup: "Failed to mount /system (Structure needs cleaning)"
Chiron latest version of TWRP, LOS15.1 and 16.0
I wanted to revert to the backup I made before upgrading to LOS16. So I launch TWRP, press restore, select all partitions, and I get to the Data partition when it says "extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255".
I try again, this time without restoring the data partition, and I get to the very end of the process before it says "Failed to mount '/system' (Structure needs cleaning)". I try to repair /system, it fails. I format it to ext4, no help.
Now I've stopped trying anything. The phone can't be turned off, it'll just boot to fastboot, so I've left it on TWRP.
Edit: Alright. Formatted data, wiped System and Cache, installed the latest nightly of 15.1, installed the version of GApps I wanted, booted up just fine. Tried the restore, and it made it all the way through, no ERROR 255, nothing, until the very very end, when it again failed to mount /system, Structure needs cleaning. Rebooting to system sends me to fastboot.
