Yeah I found it, it's in the AT&T all access widget... I have no idea why they don't just included like normal in the network connections section in settings
Is there anyway to root and use the hotspot without going thru the at&t widget? If so please point me in the right direction.

i swear froyo has hotspot built in by default? you shouldn't need an app...
menu > settings > wireless and networks > portable wifi hotspot
there's a separate setting menu where you can set up your network name and password, make sure you're connected to 3g and you're good to go
I think us cellular took out the ability so I need to know if I can get it back or make one with an app thanks for the reply

hah this is beyond me then. i've heard stories about mean US carriers...but hey at least u got access to 4G...
maybe tethering apps without root, or rooting and custom rom should give you the ability. however will your carrier still detect either method?
I had the ATT version for a few days and it had a data on/off toggle.
I can't seem to find it on the tmobile version. Is there a toggle for it?

If it does I can't find it. I wish it did.
Nope. I just did a side by side of the i9500 and the M919 and it was one thing I noticed when reviewing the video I made.

No "direct" toggle button but data can be turned off at Settings>>Connections>>Data Usage
You can turn off data there and also set a data limit there.
Hi, guys I recently ran into an issue with the build prop modification in regards to network selection. If I enable the network selection as pointed out in one of the other threads and select LTE /CDMA my phone will lock on LTE however no phone calls can be made out or recieved. I had to reflash to 10k then reroot and then change the build prop to CA/TLS and finally hardreset via stock recovery. Anybody else have this issue?
UPDATE... looks like as long as i dont try to make a call the option to switch it back to auto is still there. One a call is attempted and fails the option to set to auto disappears.

Most carriers Phone calls and Texts dont go through LTE...... If your setting it to LTE only thats why.

I understand but after it's been on LTE for a while it doesn't give you the option to switch back.

How are you changing it? Changing it via Build.Prop? Then there is your problem, JUST change it using the setting under mobile networks..

I'm changing it under mobile networks.
Stop changing it to lte/cdma and you're phone will no longer mess up. Leave it on gsm/wcdma/lte auto. You're phone will switch when the appropriate network is available!!!

Simple fix. Just select airplane mode for a few and then toggle it off and you'll see your network options come back once data roaming turns off and your carrier logo appears. I typically run lte/CDMA to get consistent lte speed bit when a callsade I have the same issue as you. But I just gave your the fix so your good

Is it just me or does the tethering hot spot not working for ZenFone 550ml?
I can turn it one fine and ppl see my name but they just can't use the data from my phone
Same problem. Fine a suggested solution but not work for me.
Hi
I have the same problem.
Even I have factory reset my Zenfone 2, the personal hotspot still does not work just by one single reboot/restart without modifying any system file, personal backup data or apps update.
I found a person suggested on ASUS forum to disable the SIM2 and reboot. Per his claim, the personal hotspot works again.
I did pay a trial but my beloved zenfone 2 cellphone still rejects routing the mobile network connection for all connected wireless devices to my phone.
I have already reported to ASUS regarding this issue and I believe this is the firmware issue.
I remember that the same personal hotspot function worked before (maybe before 2 previous syustem updates).
If you find other solutions/suggestions, please post it here.
Alan
I have the same issue (latest WW firmware 2.15.40.13 - model 4GB/32GB/1.8Ghz).
Hotspot enabled, devices connect/authenticate but cannot access internet. The mobile data is working fine, as I can browse the web on the phone, but it does not route to devices connected via wifi hotspot.
interesting...
i guess we have to wait for the next update
this is not good.......

Also you should have correct APN for tethering (ie APN Type : default, supl, dun) DUN is very important for connexion sharing. So check your APN and if necessary edit them accordly
how do you check your apn?
no i am on that same firmware but nothing is working

I am experiencing the same issue on my 551ML. The workaround of disabling both sim card, then enabling only sim 1 and after activating wifi hotspot seems to work
oh man mine didn't work for the way you did it
turn off both sims and reactiveate sim 1 and turn on hotspot
maybe its the model, i have the 550ml
Same here, 551ML latest firmware. Messing around with sims doesn't work. Connects to tablet but no data is getting past the phone.

It can be a hardware prob...Check with different carrier's sim card and check if tethering is working with that one... Try contacting your service provider and ask them for apn and settings for zenfone 2... If nothing works try replacing ur device under warranty
This used to work before I went to the . 13 firmware.
I presume the next release may fix this and break something else.
Would settle for a decent battery life at the moment. Tethering isn't a major issue as I have a contract mifi unit I can use. I also presume tethering would fry the battery even quicker so I'm happy to avoid at the moment.

If u really want to use tethering u can anytime flash that rom...And for the battery if u r rooted use Greenify and delete bloatware from phone...It helps a lot....And use power saver feature on this phone... Asus really needs to do sumthing about battery backup..
No not rooted. I can't use a card payment system or a couple of TV apps if rooted.

U can anytime hide root from those apps...There is this app which lets you hide root from certain apps...I am not sure RootCloak works with Lollipop but u can give it a try...
Hello guys.
I need another tip as I am not running AT&T network in Europe I wanted to ask you if you are able to switch manually between network types 2G/3G/4G. The phone connects me to 4G regardless to how bad the reception is, and in that areas I want to be able to swotch from 4G to 3G.
Does any of you have a solution for this item?
Your responses will be appreciated.

As far as I've ever known, the only way to really impact that without root would be to change APN settings. I can't really provide specifics on this device, but there definitely isn't a quick and easy way to toggle between them.

You saved me from selling my beloved S7 Active! After searching (camo green, unlocked) from about 2 months, I bought it a week ago. I'm using "MINT SIM". So on default network settings, I'm fine outdoor, but indoor situation is horrible, it keeps me in LTE (barely 1 bar). So calls were getting disconnected. I don't care about data in my house, as I'm on WIFI all the time. Now, from your provided code, I selected 'Global Auto' and I'm getting ALL bars of network! It is connecting me to UMTS automatically! Data speed good enough for me! I don't have to sell it anymore! Thanks a lot!!
