I'm running pixel experience and i'm a bit confused about so many custom recoveries (pitch black, red wolf, TWRP) firmwareless roms, DM-Verity & Forced encryption, LazyFlasher, anti rollback (i have anti 4), dummy.img, TWRP not working properly on pi etc. I want to install the latest pie global rom (which should be the best stock rom right?), what should i do? I know it has been asked before but i'm confused and i don't want to brick my phone.
I have a china mee7s model if it makes any differences

I think it is the safest and efficient way. Of course you can use TWRP (or similar) if you willing to. You can research on PitchBlack and OrangeFox coming from custom rom to miui.

Edit: i think the problem was that i flashed using clean all and lock, in the guide this wasnt specified. Is this phone bricked?
Edit 2: I flashed it again and it worked, thanks anyway, now i need to change my pants

I understand that with thins new update it becomes impossible to downgrade to previous versions of MIUI but how about custom roms like lineage? Or installing twrp and magisk? There is a lot of info scattered but i would like to get some answers and update OP with something like a FAQ of do and Do not to make it easier for everybody
*Work in Progress*
-Miui 10
- From 8.7.10 onward flashing TWRP is impossible but booting into TWRP is possible from Fastboot using "fastboot boot recovery.img"
- There is one report of a successful Treble Lineage Flash ( take it with a grain of salt )

Yes we need to know if possible flash custom roms or not. If yes the anti rollback isnt a big deal.
I updated to latest global beta.......now i cant flash twrp recovery now because of this anti rollback.
in my expiriance with LG G4 with antirollback. i could flash any custom rom aosp laos. just stock rom from LG i could not . qfuse will blow and brick phone.. this was only on LG firmware stock roms. not sure if its the same in xiaomi.
TWRP can be installed
Im currently on Miui 10 8.7.12 global beta
I have TWRP 3.2.1 installed along with magisk 16.0 :good:
Everything works fine
Have no intention of going back to previous builds

did you install before or after updating?
Installed it after as twrp was replaced by stock.
After rooting it works fine
Anti roll back is already in moto phones. Only problem is rollback to stock only you can flash 8.1 to 7.1 custom ROMs. Even in stock you can skip bootloader files and flash to rollback with upgraded bootloader. Its new to xiaomi.
So Anti-rollback is no big deal because we can install TWRP + custom roms then? Some people say no (they can't, with little to no evidence) and others say yes (with decent evidence). Do we know what's up, I read comments telling it's basically 50:50. Is it device dependant, or do we need some exploits in terms of drivers/software usage etc? Thanks for your reply!
I'm also searching whether we can install custom rom or not ?
My RN5 AI came with stable MIUI 9.5.22.0. When I tried to install TWRP, to begin the process of flashing RR, I got the anti-rollback message and TWRP install failed.
You can install custom recovery and roms. Method here: Everything About Anti Roll-back .

Did you check the version of anti-rollback via fastboot (fastboot getvar anti)?
What was your method of flashing? Minimal adb and fastboot flash recovery redwolf.img and then boot into it, or just booting into it and flashing redwolf.img from the recovery itself? Did you use lazyflasher afterwards, or is it even necessay with redwolf? Which version of Redwolf did you use?
Thanks for your effort and sorry for all of these questions, I really hope we can help the community out. Plz tell then if you succeed in flashing a custom rom

So nothing has changed regarding flashing recovery and custom roms? I mean, people managed to flash twrp/redwolf the normal way --> doing the same with custom roms. I don't think we have a problem here but still this new implementation makes me nervous...
Edit: huh, no just flashing the antibypass image before doing the twrp in case you are on anti rollback > 3. Just with "fastboot getvar anti" the version, if you are on 3 you are good, if you are on 4 use the method the link I guess...

1. there are many ways. using the official sytem updater and searching for new updates. but if you are rooted and have twrp. i suggest to use either orange fox or red wolf twrp's they support OTA. thats for official miui. or you can download zip and use the sytem updater and using the 3 dots and data package.
or unlocked bootloader using fastboot rom 2.5GB and miflash tools. i think this is the best way when you have problems and needs a fresh clean installation. beware that at bottom the option its selected to relock bootloader . just change to clean. clean and lock will flash and lock bootloader.
2. depends am not sure in RN5 how is camera. most of the times when you dont use official rom from vendor camera quality decreases. say using stock firmware will give you best quality then when using AOSP LAOS.
if camera doesnt suffer from decrease quality then its good. your phone will be faster, more battery and there are lots of roms available. i have not tried AOSP or LAOS roms in RN5 thought.
2. i love masik rom over official rom. this is miui based rom. but no OTA. you have to manually flash new updates.
3. not sure about your question.
4. doesnt matter ARB. in ARB4 only thing that changes its that in order to have twrp permanent you have to do an extra step. ARB3 you flash twrp.img. and had to use lazy flasher file.
in ARB4 you have to boot twrp. then in twrp you must flash twrp.img to have pemanent. or use orangefox and thats it.

Hello:
1. Being you are on ARB4, I would be extremely careful flashing firmwares. It's generally not necessary anyways, although sometimes newer firmwares can contain some bug fixes. In the ROM section you can find a thread with a firmware collection, including versions of firmware that have been stripped of ARB and thus *should* be safer to flash. You can follow instructions in that thread if you decide you want to flash.
2. Of course not. MIUI is a decent ROM by itself.
3. Of course not. It's purely a matter of preference. All ROMs you will find for your device support your device (duh), regardless of the base used.
4.There is no firmware recommended per se, because firmware is released by Xiaomi, thus we don't really know what's inside. We can have a general idea sometimes if a bug fix was applied our if ARB was changed looking at the whole ROM release notes, but that's all.
Hope that helps you.
Hi,
I just tried to root my Mi Max 3 but got bootloop, what can I do?
I unlocked the device.
Then I flashed TWRP 3.2.0. nitrogen, devcie was encrypted then.
I flashed Magisk 18.1., rebooted, but bootloop.
I rebooted into TWRP again and flashed no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip and again Magisk 18.1 and rebooted, but bootloop only.
I did factory reset but bootloop only.
What am I suposed to do? Any help from you guys?
Thanks you very much !
download and install the latest twrp from nijel8. Make a wipe and install only a clean rom and magisk. Nothing more. It must work.
Tried magisk 18.0?
I use magisk 18.0 and official twrp 3.2.3.0.
Hi,
it didnt help unfortunately.
I think I first need to flash a stock firmware completely right? Then try another round with the suggested versions by you guys.
I downloaded stock ROM from Xiao Mi Website here: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
It is named: nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218.0000.00_8.1_global
But when I try to flash it via fastboot mode and the help of Xiao Mi Flash Tool I get an error like this (attachment)
Any help?
Update: I just flashed official full rom named: miui_MIMAX3Global_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_885d8903d6_8.1.zip via TWRP and it didnt show any errors (but TWRP still installed, I expected stock revoery actually?!). I wiped cache and rebooted but still bootloop.
I am really not sure what to do now.
Update 2: I now was able to flash stock rom (nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218.0000.00_8.1_global) via fastboot mode (error like on screenshot didnt appear anymore, dont really know why) now phone is only booting into stock MIUI recovery and shows a red noteification: "This MIUI Version cant be installed on this device" -> Can anybode give me help please?
Update 3: Tried to unlock again but it fails due to my device is not bound to my MI Account, but how to add it to account as I cant boot it up anymore and go to the settings in android. Or do I need another FULL Rom? I read smth that this error (Rom cant be installed on this device) appears if one is trying to flash Global Rom instead of China ROM? Where to get this one? Dont know the difference actually But my phone had google services preinstalled
I now even downloaded the chinese full rom: Mi Max 3 China Stable ROM 10.0.6.0 – V10.0.6.0.OEDCNFH / MIUI 9 / fastboot / Android Oreo because I think maybe this was originally i nstalled (purchased phone in Indonesia which is black market)
but once I try to flash it, the mix flash tool tells me now erase is not allowed in locked mode. I need to unlock first? but how? Unlock bootloader is not possible due to device is not bound with my mi-account.
I am really lost know
current situation:
not able to flash china full rom because locked
not able to unlock because device not bound to mi-account
I amonly able to bootup into mi-stock reciovery and stock bootloader.
what can I do?

Can't you flash from stock recovery? Download recovery rom matching your stock recovery(china or global), save in microsd. Enter recovery and flash rom.
Edit: sorry, just checked. Not possible to select file from stock mi recovery.

I dont really know. AT least all google services were available. does this mean it has been the global base? I bought this phone in Indonesia were it is not available officially, only through some black market sellers in the malls. Maybe they also have used the chinese versions, unlocked and reflashed the global versions and then they sell it. So maybe it has been the chinese base originally but is sold out with the global version? On the devices backside is a sticker with IMEi, IMEI2, MEID and SN, does this say anything about the version?

thanks a lot for this tip, bro. I am not sure because in this guide they say it will help you to flash a recovery? I am having stock recovery already installed. I need to reflash the correct Rom. Anyway, I will try it asap. Atm it fails due to bad internet connection in my hotel right now.
I will download following ROM: Chinese Stable: MIUI 10 V10.2.1.0.OEDCNXM as a .zip archive and will try to load it into the Mi Assistant tool and try to start flashing from there. OK? Will let you know about the result then.

Its for flashing rom. Use the recovery rom, not fastboot rom. What it means is that your recovery should match the rom. (MiRecovery china, recovery rom china. MiRecovery global, recovery rom global)
I dont know which recovery version you successfully flashed to phone, but i guess its china. Won't able too boot if device is locked and recovery is not original to phone aka china recovery.
Edit:from that thread, someone successfully flashed miui10. If you failed to do so, DO NOT try to flash miui9. Different ARB, will permanently brick device.

My recovery is at least in english language, does this help?
I just tried to flash the CN rom package mentioned in my last post with this MiAssistant Beta 3.0, but package verification failed:
Does this mean it is the wrong rom package and I simply need to download the other versions and test it with other ones and once erfification works fine I will know this must be the correct one? Or is this just another error i am know running into?
Any idea?

I guess verification failed means not matching. You can try global rom. Btw, have you try wipe data. Maybe rom already flashed properly but data bug causes bootloop. Try wipe then reboot.

Yes, I also used this wipe feature in this Mi Assistant but unfortunately it did not help. After rebooting again bootup screen appears a bit longer and I can hear a short beep sound which let me think it will boot up properly but unfortunately it then restarts into recovery mode only.
well installed is this one: nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218.0000.00_8.1_global, which I flashed earlier today via mi flash tool.
Now I tried to flash miui_MIMAX3Global_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_885d8903d6_8.1.zip which should be the same, but verification failed, too.
Does it make sense?!
In this thread, there are many Stock Roms available:

Global and china rom have their own signature. But different version always have same signature. If verification failed, I thought signature didn't match.
Now you have tried both global and china and still failed. I'm confused. I don't have any idea anymore..

well, now there is nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218. 0000.00_8.1_global installed on the phone.
Also the Mi Assistant tool recgnizes V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK as currently installed. My box has pon backside some chinese signs, no teaser "Global version". I think it has been chinese but black market sellers flashed global roms already to fit the indonesian market.
But I just noticed that in this Mi Assistant tool I have the options "Flash" and "Quick FLash" (erase all data) and there they mention it will work with Miui 8 and 9. Seems this Assistant tool is not MIUI 10-ready?! And I couldnt find a newer version of this.
Maybe this is the reason why verification with MIUI 10 packages fails?

Wondering again why again an error lol

which means I cant downgrade, ya?
Hello devs,
I upgraded my Realme X to android 10 using OTA.
Although there are no serious bugs, the UI has minor glitches now and then. But the camera has lost its quality significantly. It is taking comparatively bad photos now when compared to Android 9.
Can You kindly write a guide on how to downgrade to Android 9? It will be really appreciated.
Thank You in advance.

Bootloader is locked. Can't I flash older versions?
I have the same query. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Bootloader is locked. I just purchased the phone and upgraded to Realme UI. Now I want to downgrade to colorOS so I can either use it or flash the phone to other ROM(s) which is completely impossible as of now in Realme UI.
U can unlock bootloader using In depth test app and adb but u can't use TWRP because TWRP is not supported in android 10.
What about fastboot? Can we flash Android 9 using fastboot? Have you successfully downgraded?

Hi
I've bricked my realme x and that lead me to start searching ow to unbrick it, and with that i can tell you there's a way to make a downgrade of the android version.
The first thing you need to have is the .ofp file of the software version you want (if you have the india/global version you will not have any problem finding it, but if you have the chinese version you probably could not find it *i've been searching a lot for this file, if you find it, please let me know*)
once you have the ofp file you need the flashing tool of oppo, known as msmdownload tool, the issue with this is the tool will ask you for username and password, because its for oppo workers, and a lot of patched versions don't reconize the file.
If you made this far its pretty simple, select the ofp file, connect the device pressing volumen + and volumen -, and push in the icon of flash.
you can do it in another way, unlocking the bootloader (theres a tutorial in this forum), and then flashing a recovery (you migth flash a custom rom first via adb/fastboot) a zip file with the twrp, and then using the flashable zip of color OS
I hope this help you, but if you're not very mastered in this i reccomend u let realme work of improving the rom or using a gcam

I hope this help you, but if you're not very mastered in this i reccomend u let realme work of improving the rom or using a gcam

you have to flash the recovery after flashing another rom
thats why i suggest you flashing a custom rom via ADB and then flashing the color os rom

In these threads you should find the answer to your question.
Also I advise you to NEVER BLOCK THE BOOTLOADER if there is a rom other than the original in the phone, go brick.
To be able to block it, make sure that the ROM with which it was born is installed in the phone (same region).
